Came here with frds.
Ordered Dan Dan noodles & diced chicken peanuts in spicy sauce. Dan Dan noodles was different compare to what I usually have. Is not really a sauce, they used chili oil (pretty tasty) $9.95 probably wouldn't get that again -small portion Diced chicken peanuts in spicy sauce- is a cold dish (it was okay) had better Mapo tofu- spicy, soft & delicious as always. Perfect combo w/ rice Fish fillets- very tasty (my fav) must get! Sapporo- wasn't as cold as I would like The female server was very good- even help us take pics of us in the booth we were in (Very cool layout)The guy server looked a bit annoyed (maybe he was having a bad day) Def recommend!

Know 朵頤 this restaurant for a while but this is my first trial. Order three dishes in a Friday evening! The liang fen is icy wry served. A bit spicy with a touch of vinegar. I like the precut red egg with green pepper. Good combination of spicy oil, vinegar, egg and green pepper. For the braised beef with roasted chili, it runs too salty. The beef is not soft or impressive enough. There is room for improvement. But overall I think for the price and service are both ok. Could try for other dishes next time

The service was good by no-frills as was the atmosphere, but I will definitely return!

Cute decor and authentic Szechuan cuisine with great lunch specials. They have 2 large tables on the back of the restaurant to accommodate 10 people party as well.
Be the first to ReplyI was at this restaurant twice with one of my usual groups.
They have been around for a long while and this is one of several Sichuan/Szechuan restaurants in the area. Personally I think Peppercorn nearby might have a few better dishes but the portion sizes are better here reminding me of Flushing and there are a couple of outstanding dishes here. As we were a very large group, we sat in back both times and the servers are pleasant. The food was a bit worse the second time but we still had a good experience. Both times we started with the Century Egg With Green Pepper/青椒皮蛋. This is a very tasty version of this dish. I believe the peppers in this case were shishito which is a bit unique. It's also presented differently with the peppers not mashed and mixed which I don't mind to be honest. The Camphor Tea Smoked (or Zhangcha) Duck/樟茶鸭 is probably my favorite main dish here. The duck has a wonderful smokiness and is very tender. The second time, the duck was a bit smaller but it was still very tasty. Probably the 2nd best I've had after Hupo. The Duck Fried Rice has more of said duck but the amount was inconsistent between times we went but still satisfying. Also recommended is the Sichuan Boiled fish/Shui Zhu Yu/水煮鱼. Very solid version of one of my favorite dishes with tender fish and a nicely spicy chili broth. Well portioned as well. Would recommend heavily. The Szechuan Style Pork Ribs are also very tasty but a smaller portion compared to many of the other massive dishes. The Lamb Ma La Xiang Guo/老灶羊肉鍋 is solid with a good amount of dry chili again but it could use some more lamb perhaps. I liked the veggies in it. Better is the Cumin Lamb. Tender lamb with a lot of mala. The Twice Cooked Pork With Chili Leeks/回锅肉, another common dish, is also good here. Nicely rendered pork and not as salty as some other spots. The Eggplant With Minced Pork in Sweet Sauce/盤龍茄子 was probably the most different the second time. The eggplant wasn't as large (which they told us) and the sauce wasn't as well flavored but it was still good. The Pork in Sweet Bean Sauce/京酱肉丝 is alright. I am not the biggest fan of the dish but the pork was tender. The final dish we ordered both times is the Mao Xue Wang /毛血旺 with Braised Tripe, Duck Blood, Lotus, Jumbo Shrimp, Sea Scallions, Fish Filet & Veggie. There were also pieces of spam and several other offal and it isn't for the faint of heart. The second time, the tripe wasn't as cooked down so it wasn't as tender. Big fan of the blood cakes however. Tender and delicious and the soup has a good kick. The second time at least had a better presentation. We got Pumpkin Cake/南瓜餅 at the end the 2nd time as people wanted a bit more. It has a glutinous rice like texture and there was some red bean inside. Couldn't taste the pumpkin much but it was hot and fresh and is a fine end to a meal. The food here was probably around a mid/high 4 the first time and a mid low 4 the 2nd time. Still very good and I would go back even if I slightly prefer Peppercorn.
Be the first to ReplyFood is good, but service is bad.
I don't known what the waiter has done to my card, but after I paid my card is restricted by bank for suspicious activity. I have to change my card because of this. They asked my friend to pay again because they think the money didn't go through, but the money is already sent from my bank account. They said they will give me the money back. I tried to call them several times, but their didn't provide a clear solution for this.
Be the first to ReplyIt was amazing! Hidden gem in mid-town for sure.
Would visit again. Food was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyThe decor is pretty classic Chinese decor.
There's place for small groups, and two large tables in the back for big groups. We walked in a bit late and the servers were kind enough to let us order early so we'd have plenty of time to eat before they closed. The food was good! I got a pork belly dish which had a rich umami flavor and was well salted. Their Szechuan-style chicken wasn't as spicy as I'm used to, but it was still solid. There were also fried chicken balls which had a nice, crispy crust and dunked into a sweet sauce.

The scallion pancake is delicious and really hits the spot! The front staff has always been super friendly every time I've come by to pick up a take-out order.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is salty and the duck is not cleaned.
And the waiter attitude is not good as well.
Be the first to ReplyI came here to get takeout for lunch on a Monday.
They have a pretty good lunch special, about $12 (including tax) for an entree, soup (hot and sour or wonton), and rice. I ordered the sautéed string beans and the eggplant with shrimp in garlic sauce. I wanted sour long beans with minced pork but it wasn't available. I wished they told me before I ordered and I picked up the order. At least they didn't charge me extra for brown rice like other places. The sautéed string beans were delicious and full of garlic. The eggplant with shrimp was delicious as well. Even the wonton soup seemed to be cooked well and high quality. The soup had dried shrimp heads and seaweed. Service was friendly and fast. I would definitely come back since their lunch special was a good deal.

Yes, the oldest Sichuan restaurant on west 39th street is open again now. For past two months or so, I had ordered pick-up lunch from this restaurant every week. Today, I noticed an unauthorized tip was added to my credit card charge. $2 is not much, but that action sickens me. Consumers beware!

It has reopened and is as good as it once was! The sichuan classics are perfectly prepared: mapo tofu, fuqifeipian, and others. All have a great blend of spice, heat, pepper, and texture.

Legendary midtown place is finally back open, and the food is just as good as always. Lunch specials are reasonably priced and the service is always fast.
Be the first to Replythey are back in business with newly renovated space.
Come and support. Food is just as good as before they were closed due to a fire in their kitchen. Service was kind and friendly.

Boarded up with a sign that says under renovation coming back soon. Doesn't say when.

3.5 since i expected a little more szechuan. But the mapo tofu is super duper good right amount of spicy for non and spicy lovers like me! My fam also ordered pork with bamboo and mushroom i think? This was so yummy i wish there was more. Wasn't as impressed with the szechuan fish filet wasn't the kind of spicy i was expecting maybe a little more sour than spicy. Also ordered the double cooked pork belly, which i usually don't like because its too fatty and oily but thissss was good. And love all the leeks or scallions there is so much of it so you may be digging around for the actual meat lol. Highly recommend. Will need to come back to try more dishes. Came for lunch with my family and the portions are small but still fed us pretty well considering we normally eat a lot. More expensive than other chinese places duhh because you in midtown but if you looking for chinese come here!

This is my favorite Sichuan restaurant in all of Manhattan, second only to a few places in Flushing. The crispy cumin lamb and mapo tofu are my favorites and absolute classics and great value for the money. For a menu that's so extensive, the quality and execution is very well done, and fairly priced for anywhere. The fire yesterday (7/10/2018) was a real shame and I wish the restaurant a speedy recovery so I can be the first one back!
