Surrell Seattle Reviews from The Last Year
I took my wife to Surrell for her dinner on her birthday.
Calling it a dinner does not adequately describe our evening. Our "experience" was spectacular. From the start, there were many nice touches to set the tone, like a poem written about the seasonal ingredients being featured in the evening's menu, and flowers made by the chef's mom that we were allowed to take home. The service was great from start to finish. The staff was attentive and eager to ensure we had everything we needed. We asked enough questions to see that they were knowledgeable about the chef's menu beyond simply memorizing the components of the dish. Speaking of the dishes, every course was delicious. My wife and I chuckled each time one of us mumbled "mmm", which happened throughout the evening. A few standouts were "Fish Sauce Caramel Cured Salmon" with an herb jam, "Wild Spot Prawn and Columbia River King Salmon" with fermented carrot, and "Into the Spring Garden Vegetables" which felt like the components of a slightly warm soup with a scoop of cold sorbet. Each of these got at least 2 verbal "mmms". The entire even was great from the first course awaiting us as we were seated, to Chef Aaron Tekulve (chef and owner) greeting everyone at the door on their way out. He stuck around to take photos with us and have conversation about their opening in 2019. I highly recommend Surrell on Madison if you're looking for a great dining experience with a comfortable environment and excellent food. The dinner is certainly expensive, but you'll soon remember that you deserve to treat yourself. Surrell is a great place to do just that.
The food was definitely the highlight for us.
The octopus was super tender. The duck was cooked perfectly. The sauce on the morel mushroom dish was amazing. You can tell that the chef puts extra heart and thought into every single dish. My only thought was that there needed to be one more savory course or an extra piece of meat on the entree. While they do offer bread, we left wanting just a little more food. The reason I am docking a star is the seating situation. My husband had booked us an indoor dining seat yet we got put at the chefs counter. We originally were placed at a very awkward spot where I had no space for my legs and were right by the door. Eventually we were able to move down but were at first told no. I feel if we were in a regular seat as originally intended, we would have been able to enjoy the experience more. This is also a wine only restaurant. It would have been nice to have had other spirit options.
Been in Seattle for 8 years now, and can't believe we
Been in Seattle for 8 years now, and can't believe we hadn't been here before. Hands down the best meal (really an experience) in the city. The food was creative, whimsical, incredibly well balanced, and, needless to say, delicious. Wine pairings were impeccable and gave us a whole new appreciation for Washington vintners. The staff were so warm and knowledgeable. It's really in the little touches that make a huge difference, like the mulled wine as soon as we arrived, handmade bouquets from the chef's mother, pop up coffee service on the way out at the end of the evening. We sat at the chef's table and got to watch the artistry happening in the kitchen. No on site parking, so would recommend taking a rideshare. Probably best after the wine anyway. 100% well worth it.
Wow! From start to finish, this was art.
We went to Surrell this weekend to celebrate a birthday and we were not disappointed. There were so many special touches. From the happy birthday message on our table, to the welcome mulled wine under the cover outside, to the farewell tea or coffee, it really awed us. Location/reservation: this is a charming, cozy, and romantic house turned restaurant. It's beautifully lit, with a gorgeous wall of an array of wines to oogle over. You can also reserve ahead of time to sit at the chefs table and watch them work. I'd love to do that someday, but if you're looking for a more intimate setting, I'd suggest a table. I also seen a group go upstairs, so they can accommodate larger groups if you plan ahead. Food: we got 2 tasting menus (1 regular, and 1 pescatarian). We did not order the wine pairing but we did try out some wine by the glass. I really appreciated that a majority of the meal was similar so even if you have a specific diet, you don't feel like you're missing out and can really enjoy it together and discuss it. The food is incredible. So beautiful, and packed full of flavor. There were many moments I was shocked and I love that feeling of being on my toes and not knowing what to expect. They had a macaron but it was savory and had mushroom. My taste buds were so caught off guard in a beautiful way! Price: we payed around $110 for 4 glasses of wine and we tried over 13 dishes for $390 (that's for 2 people) plus tip and everything it was about $630 for both of us. Highlights: 1. I need that mulled wine bottled and ready for me to purchase weekly lol 2. The chefs mom made the flower bouquets for the menu which was so special - lots of fresh greenery and flowers along the journey 3. Lavender tea in the cutest little Togo cup was so special, chef said it's his wife's fav - I went to Whole Foods and bought lavender tea for home lol 4. Favorite part of my entire meal (and it's hard to choose) is that porridge - omg how do you do it?! Sorcery. Coming in a close second is that octopus - so good! 5. Kinda random but I loved the music playlist that evening. Thank you for a special evening!
Absolutely top notch, expensive, but worth it.
Since the fall of the Willows Inn, this is the best contender for a Michelin rating in Washington. The food was fantastic, subtle, rich varied. Service was quiet, exact, warm. Ambience was very, very comfortable. We liked the Lagrioth chard too.
Food: for the presentations, I will have to give it a 10/10.
However, the food was a 4/10 for our group. It wasn't something special or make a lasting impression where I would pay to come back again. What we got was shown below in the photos; A5 waygu, carrots, scallops, a piece of octopus, oysters, macaron, potato and truffles, porridge, and desserts. The food was super salty for our taste, did not think it would be like for all the courses that we got. If the food were to be a bit more flavorful and less salty, I think I would give it a 8/10. Service: 7/10 someone will come to set up the table, and after the dishes are served, they will come back to collect the dishes . Did not really ask how we like it or if it is to our liking, or how's the taste because otherwise we could have told them how salty the food is without being upfront about it. Ambiance: 8/10 I just thought it was a bit too dark, even the restroom has minimal to no lights. But I guess they have a theme that they're going for. There will be random photos of the house and it's a bit scary.
Easily the best meal I've had in Seattle in years.
Excellent all around, the service was superb, with no detail left out.
Truely a special evening to remember.
It is a culinary experience from before you walk in the door through walking out the door to go home. No detail was missed. The food was delicious, inventive and unique in a good way. Don't just go for a special event, it is worth going to check out what each season brings.
Surrell is a wonderful experience for the high quality
Surrell is a wonderful experience for the high quality details, excellent staff that cares about your time there, and the essence of food. Make reservations ahead of time, select the chefs table if possible! It was cool to see the working kitchen team. You're greeted with a refreshing drink at check in. With a rotating "tasting menu", each season will be a different menu put together by the chef and team. Each dish was a surprise and fun. At my visit, for one of the plates, each ingredient was packaged separately and we were tasked to put together mini tacos. While the quality of plates was excellent, I felt like during the middle the dishes sort of felt redundant. The flavors are consistent across all dishes. I recommend Surrell to anyone looking for a fine dining experience. The staff care about your time there and the chef puts his heart into his craft. I look forward to visiting again in the spring time for the next tasting menu.
The service was wonderful, I appreciate how helpful they
The service was wonderful, I appreciate how helpful they were. The ambience was really nice. This is perfect for a date night with people who literally enjoy all sorts of food. The food came out so cute and so unique it almost made you not want to disrupt how cute it came out. It's perfect for the foodie that loves Instagram photos. And there's so much effort put on the presentation. I wish there was a little bit more effort put on the actual taste of the food. A lot of it was so bland. And this is a very expensive tasting. The octopus could've been grilled longer It was very floppy and rubbery. The tuna didn't taste fresh, it tasted like it sat out for quite some time. The tofu soup with the edible leaf was very bland. The lamb was delicious. All in all if you're into unique different foods and enjoy tastings this is definitely a fun spot to try.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
