I've been living in NYC for 14 years and have been to Superiority Burger a handful of times. As a non vegan, I was very impressed with the burgers. This time I wanted to bring a guest with me who was visiting NYC for the first time. It was a Friday so naturally it was pretty busy, I approached the hostess and kindly asked her "How Long?" for the wait. She rudely responded with a terrible attitude, it threw me off so much I asked her politely to repeat herself and the attitude was worse so we decided to not eat there. She was so unpleasant that my guest was turned off and I can tell you I will never be returning again. As someone who studied service design I am appalled with the lack of respect and authority when it comes to business. I wouldn't talk to a stranger that way let alone a customer. Unfortunately, Superiority has now supported that stereotype of young hipster vegans who act like they are better than everyone else - I suggest you work on your staff.

Currently (June 2022) a pop up salad place before they move to a new location around the corner. I had the farro salad which was super good! It had tons of herbs and a variety of veggies and even some purple flowers. The lady who took the order outside was super friendly.

The term 'burger' is so broad that it's basically rendered meaningless. When it comes to vegetarian iterations, you might either expect imitations of beef made of ingredients like seitan or leghemoglobin or vegetable bean mash. The patties at Superiority lean more towards the latter texture, but the process is as involved as you'd expect from the likes of the musician and virtuoso pastry chef from Del Posto, Brooks Headley. I've heard that over 14 ingredients are used in the burger, but if you don't have an extremely attuned palate you won't really realize it all. This was the case for me, who found that the 'burger' did indeed taste like vegetables, which is a plus, but not necessarily in a way I was overly fond of.The Tofu Fried Tofu is a completely different story. That sandwich slaps. The tofu is marinated, seared, and then battered. It's served on a toasted bun with mayo and hot sauce, giving it a spicy kick and a really satisfying bite. They were only served once a week pre-pandemic, and then even more spottily after they reopened. Right now they're on hiatus and charting an epic return, with a larger kitchen, location, and actual seating. I rejoice at the prospect of getting my hands on some TFTs on the regular, and whatever else their kitchen will cook up.

***Delicious & Filling, Arrive Early, Highly Recommend***A vegan/vegetarian friendly place I highly recommend! It's a pick up and go, so there's no seating; but the park is nearby if you want to people watch and fill your stomach up. I recommend arriving just before it opens because there was already a line when I arrived.

I've been dying to try Superiority Burger for YEARS and I finally got there during a recent trip. There was a bit of a line when I got there at 2pm on a Saturday (maybe waited 20-25 minutes to order and another 10 to get my food) but the food is well worth it!The namesake superiority burger ($10) is a thick veggie patty that is bursting with hearty grains and umami flavors. I'm a huge fiend for french fries so the fact that I actually enjoyed the burnt broccoli salad ($8) as a side with my burger is a ringing endorsement. It's a perfect mix of smoky, spicy, sweet, salty, and crunchy. The menu changes frequently depending on what is seasonal. Everything sounded super tasty--I was tempted to try some of the limited time options but I wanted to stick to the classics for my first visit. One small flaw in the system is that you can only see the menu when you get to the front of the line. It definitely slowed down the ordering process since everyone had a hundred questions about the menu when they got to the front.Superiority Burger definitely deserves all the hype for serving up some of the most tasty and creative vegan dishes around. I can't wait to come back next time I'm in the East Village!
Be the first to ReplyWow! I really don't get this place.
..I was driving by and i saw the long line of people waiting outside so i figured I'd give it a try. So i ordered their SB burger ( should be renamed to BS burger) and the burnt broccoli salad and the Sanzo mango drink. ย WWhat a disappointment...after dropping $20 bucks on all this i had to throw everything out. Both the burger and the broccoli salad tasted like they had been made with spoilt ingredients that had been salvaged from a dumpster dive from the back of a supermarket. ย The broccoli salad and the burger tasted fermented. I was afraid that i might get sick so i threw the whole thing out and rinsed my mouth out with their overpriced seltzer water.

I wasn't sure the hype would be worth it but it definitely is! Got the special hero of the day and burnt broccoli salad. Both were really good. I could see the burnt broccoli not being everyone's favorite but I loved it. Can't wait to come back for the gelato and more heros. Line went pretty quickly and food comes out fast once you order!

Waited in line on a Saturday for the Yuba Verde sandwich (only available Saturdays) and the ice cream (Coconut tarragon gelato and crazy mandarin flavors!). The sandwich was the perfect amount of spicy but not burning, flavorful and balanced. The broccolini was a little hard to bite and chew in the sandwich, but it was still great in terms of flavor. The gelato and sorbet mixed was what I imagine an orange creamsicle tastes like (never had one though, since I'm vegan). All in all well worth the wait!
Be the first to ReplyI am a die hard carnivore and yet I still love this place.
I am a huge "foodie" (hate that word but easiest shortcut description) - love dining out at new restaurants and am known in my friend group as a truly distinctively good cook. This place, hands down, is the stuff food dreams are made of. In the summer - get any special on the menu - incredibly fresh, greenmarket driven food. The focaccias and salads are incredible. I also love the burger and burnt broccoli salad. Honestly feel like I can't move out of the neighborhood as I love this place so damn much.

We went and waited 30 minutes as they opened at 5:15 instead of 5pm. We thought it was going to be worth the wait but we were pretty disappointed. ย we wanted to order the mini superiority burgers that everyone talks about. The lady said the megamouth is "the same thing". It most definitely was not! The bun was completely different and no cheese. We are definitely not coming back!

This place is highly reviewed for a vegetarian joint so when I saw a long line brewing in front of the store, I had to check it out. Their menu seems to change very often but it looked quite creative; I settled on the Tokyo burger since their burgers are reputed as popular. This place is way too small to fit anyone so I went to nearby Tompkins Sq park to dine. Overall, it was just okay and I was a bit unimpressed. The burger looks like what you would get at BK, which I was a bit disappointed by after a 20 min wait and 13 bucks. It was cool that it had peanut sauce, but the patty itself is underwhelming. It was bland overall and nothing super special. I wouldn't come back again unless someone suggested the focaccia bread as that was the other dish i was eyeing.
Be the first to ReplyYou should definitely come here if you want a basic bland
You should definitely come here if you want a basic bland burger on soggy buns. The lady was extremely rude and does not care about good customer service. Save yourself some frustration and go somewhere else.

Must try! It's a very small place probably only 4 people max can sit down inside while watching people swirl inside to place an order in line. I usually hate fake burgers but this is the first gourmet burger I would eat over meat. I'm not even an veggie person. To top it off the homage fun flavor ice cream of the week is even better! It should tell you something when you run into eaters very own editor here regularly!
