Suki New York Reviews from The Last Year
I really wanted to love this place, a female chef, Japanese
I really wanted to love this place, a female chef, Japanese curry ... sounded super promising, right? The cucumber was too hard the tuna too cold and it was watery and bland. The udon very unexceptional and the chicken katsu? Overcooked and dry. What an incredible disappointment. The room is lovely and d the server polite but this place isn't it. Japanese cafeteria quality at proper restaurant prices.
The pork katsu curry is the way to go.
A friend got the chicken katsu curry, which was oddly $1 more expensive than the pork and had less pieces. Maybe it was fake meat? It was about $30 with tax and tip, and it was very good. There's 5 options for spice. I picked lucky number 4. 3 would probably be the perfect Goldilocks level. 4 has a slight burn that is a slow burn that creeps up on you. For the pork katsu, it was very crispy and has 2 rows of nicely cut meat. I just wish there was a beef katsu option. The rice to meat portion is perfect, and I liked the breading on the pork. They had a bunch of random sauces on the side like a spicy mayo, and a soy based one, but the curry is the way to go. Maybe because I ordered in English, but I thought I'd get chopsticks... Anyways having the curry in the side is perfect for dipping and making sure everything isn't soggy. Maybe next time, I'll come back to try the other menu options.
TLDR: High end ambiance with reasonable prices, excellent
TLDR: High end ambiance with reasonable prices, excellent portions, tasty food. Great service Went with a large group of people on an evening during a weekday. We were all quickly seated at table that accomodated all of us (6). The ambiance is much more higher end, likely as it caters to those who visit the United Nations nearby. My friends who were just back from visiting Japan said in comparison the curry is less sweet tasting than what they tried there but still enjoyed the meal. Pork Katsu: Crispy, large portions of pork cutlets that were seasoned well. The curry was spiced well (As someone who loves heat, I do wish I ordered it to be spicier). We were all full and content with our meals. Overall I would definitely visit again. It was a great experience. A great place to take a date, or a group of friends for a night after work.
Can't say this place is authentic.
I've never had spicy mayo as a side to my katsu curry. The udon bowl was lacking ingredients. It was just udon noodles in broth with a few shrimp. The gyudon was confusing as well. We've never eaten gyudon without onions. The flavor of the curry was good, but everything felt a little out of place.....
Best Katsu Curry in NYC
My wife and I fancied some Japanese food on our last day in NYC and settled on Suki as I read some favourable reviews. I highly recommend Suki as I had the Chicken Katsu curry and it was absolutely delicious! My wife had the Ramen which again was really tasty and came in a large portion. The place was clean and minimally decorated and our waitress was welcoming and explained the menu well. The bill came and it was really reasonable and we would not hesitate in returning.
Good food.
Best curry in town. The beef udon is amazing. Those fake/American wagyu is mouth watering
RATING: 8.
5/10 PRO TIP: Get the pork katsu curry for your first time; it's not the type of curry where you get chunks of potatoes and carrots, but rather the focus is on the actual curry sauce and how delicious that can be. For something different, get the dry curry. PORK KATSU The curry itself comes in a separate bowl for dipping, which is richly delicious, and has a great punch of flavor with so much coming at you it's like "yes i am not your everyday curry." really good and can see why this won awards. The katsu itself is good, but the breading easily fell off and it wasn't the most tender meat-wise but oftentimes katsu isn't. The rice was nicely cooked and the dish itself is relatively simple outside of the curry. Honestly, come here if you want to experience some really delicious, no frills Japanese curry in a vibe that is quite soothing. It was easy to come in without a reservation on a weekend at around 7. FINAL CATEGORY: GREAT (terrible / bad / ok / good / GREAT / excellent)

Came in on a Wednesday a bit after 2pm (30 minutes before closing) and was happy they seated us. There was one other table eating when we walked in. I ordered the dry curry and my partner ordered the gyu-don with a side of pork katsu. I really liked the dry curry!! Flavor was great but I'm so sad about the portion size :/ for $18 I expected a bit more, I wasn't completely full after. The dressing of the side salad was good. My partner liked his gyu-don - I tried a bit but it wasn't anything special. The pork katsu was good and not too oily, but also kind of pricy for a small piece. Service was nice and the server let us know if we wanted to order before the kitchen closed. Very attentive. 3 stars for the dry curry and service
I had a delightful experience at Suki, a Japanese curry
I had a delightful experience at Suki, a Japanese curry spot in Manhattan. The pork katsu curry and Wagyu appetizer were standout dishes among the various options we tried. The restaurant's ambiance was pleasant, and the service was excellent. Can't wait to return for another satisfying meal!
I wanted to sample their curry base so ordered the plain
I wanted to sample their curry base so ordered the plain curry. I appreciated the good consistency of the sauce (not too thick). I enjoyed the garlic and onion flavors but the sauce was too sweet. I wanted a bit more saltiness and spice to balance things out. I also noted that there were no condiments and wished they had added some fukujinzuke or pickles on the side.
This is a really great choice for Japanese curry.
I had the vegetable curry and tofu salad. I'd skip the tofu salad if you're getting curry because the curry also comes with a small portion of salad, but the dressing was nice and creamy. The curry had a warm, comforting flavor with just the right balance of sweetness.
