High Expectations. Big Disappointment.
Average dining experience. Me and my partner went for a la carte evening meal and had two courses. Starter and a Main. We were both disappointed. Food was “one taste” , not a lot of flavour. My partner had the chicken and I had the Lamb. The Lamb was flavourless and the chicken was too. In short, save your money. Go somewhere else.
Excellent dinner and experience!
We had an amazing experience at this special restaurant and it definitely lived up to its two stars in our opinion! We've eaten in many Michelin restaurants and love visiting new ones while traveling. I was concerned after reading a few negative recent reviews, but from start to finish our evening was spectacular. We had excellent service and each dish was delicious. We each chose the 6-course tasting menu. You can choose one of two items for each course so we chose both and shared. I got the wine paring and my wife ordered by the glass. The wines were interesting and fantastic , served by a knowledgeable and passionate sommelier. Many have mentioned the bread cart, and we loved it. I would highly recommend Steirereck to anyone looking for a special experience with over the top food and wine.
Nightmare in Vienna
One of the worst, if not the worst, dining experience we have ever had. We were only presented the option of a tasting menu, presumably due to the size of our party (8). The meal took over 4.5 hours, and most of the staff had gone home for the night before we were freed from our gastronomic prison at 1:00 a.m. There was over an hour wait between the main course and the cheese course; the ice cream served for dessert was completely melted; and the food was mediocre to sub-par. Service was equally abysmal, as we had to pour our own wine and water, and the wait staff failed to check to see if we needed more wine or water. Run, don’t walk, away from this place. Overrated and an embarrassment as a dining experience.

Fabulous lunch
We celebrated our Europe tour ending with a lunch tasting menu here. We did not know what to expect but I think what makes it memorable are the little surprises like citron favors or five different dessert tastes like gooseberry ice cream bars in white chocolate. The food was served by formal dressed staff and was perfectly prepared.

Very rude attitude when you try to book a place directly, although I had a huge budget for this dinner. But thankfully Vienna is full of nice and elegant restaurants

This is a 2 Michelin star restaurant and listed as #18 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants. Obviously the service and ambiance were superb. We came here for lunch, and the meal took around 3.5 hours. I got the 4 course meal for €135. The courses I chose were the char with beeswax, veal beuschel, kid goat shoulder, and the pine cone chocolate. They also gave small appetizers and mini desserts in the beginning and end of the meal. I only liked about half of them since many of these small bites were too tart/sour. For my courses, my fave was the kid goat shoulder since it was super tender. The char would be my second favorite, since it was super soft and fresh. It was cool how they showed how the char was cooked in beeswax. The pine cone chocolate would be better if it were more chocolatey. The sauce on the bottom was super tart. My least favorite was the veal beuschel. It was so salty that I couldn't finish it. The coolest part of the meal was the bread cart, since they have so many unique breads. The bread helps to fill you up so you won't go hungry Overall, the food didn't completely blow my mind (at least for the courses I got). The experience was still super fun especially since the dishes were unique and for the bread cart! I also liked how they give you a mini card with each course explaining all the ingredients.
Pretentious, pompous, overrated.
Maybe it was an off day. It happens. But this was the first Michelin starred restaurant that we went to that didn't rate any stars that night. It started with two glasses of water... Twenty minutes later a drink order was taken. After ten more minutes a trio of bizarre amuse bouche arrived on separate little wooden pedestals. One was a tiny sandwich of greasy chicken skins with an odd filling . The other two were worse. A few minutes later the menus were finally delivered followed by a bread cart with more selections than any bakery we've ever seen. Necessary? No, however that was the best part of the meal. When the menus finally arrived it was a long list of items that contained an unusually long list of obscure ingredients of odd combinations. The combinations intended to impress with sophistication but all failed to deliver. The plated food was pretty. The disappointment began with the first bite. The white asparagus appetizer looked and tasted like a Rorschach test. The liver appetizer suffered the same fate as did the rest of our meal. Lamb too many ways, none were enjoyable. Overcooked pork shared the plate with a cacophony of greasy fried skins and a dozen other random bits. The ingredients seemed to be at war with each other on a plate that resembled a battlefield of fine ingredients. Each dish also had at least one or more sauces to be poured table side. No doubt to lull the dinners palate into dropping its defenses before the sneak attack on their senses. We left satisfied with our choices... of not choosing the three and a half hour tasting menu as this spared us prolonging our escape from a rare culinary nightmare.

My fiance and I were thoroughly impressed by the quality of Steirereck's food and service. The cheese cart was to die for and the service was impeccably timed. We also got the wine pairing, and the staff gave us wonderful explanations of each wine and they matched beautifully with each dish. They even have an amazing magazine that was an awesome souvenir and gave more info into the local suppliers and farmers that work with the restaurant. When we are back in Vienna, we will definitely come back here.

I'd eat there every day of my trip if I could. The service was incomparable and sets a high standard. The room with the big windows looking out on the park was so charming. I can't recommend this place enough!

WOW. That's all I can say. We booked this restaurant two months before we arrived for our trip in Vienna. The location is beautiful and the food presentation was unbelievable. From the moment you step in, you are transported into a special place. The bread cart, the service, the presentation, everything was supreme. Well worth the visit.
Slightly embarrassing review
I don't doubt that I had a princely meal and that a lot of trouble was taken. But - and this is not what they want, I'm sure - what I actually remember was the effect the service had on the occasion. It sounds churlish to criticise the struggling waiter, but he really didn't have to talk so much, so lengthily. Particularly as his English was fairly unintelligible; some trouble with pronunciation if not vocabulary. A right pain to listen to after the tenth or eleventh time. Why can't waiters sense the mood of the table? We are all very experienced travellers / diners, could read the menu ourselves, and did not count it a blessing to hear this earnest fellow telling us what we could (mostly) already read or see. The wines, too, were a laborious descriptive affair. The best staff excel because they *do* alter their style for the party, dosing their input subtly. A shame they didn't, when the chef was dosing his contribution so majestically.

If you’re reading this you know that Steireck has a deserved reputation for food and service. So I wanted to say something more about the ethos of training that makes it so special. We were looked after by someone who had no particular aspirations to restaurant work 18 months ago- her broad smiles, willingness to engage, attention to her job, impressive mastery of English cannot be just chance. Someone is helping the youth they hire to become their best selves. To whoever is doing that please accept our thanks. Steireck is a treat. What they are doing is amazing and it’s clear it’s right through the team! Thank you for such special night in your brilliant restaurant in beautiful Vienna!

Insanely good!
The restaurant is just beatiful and so spacious, you get the great ambience while feeling the privacy almost as if you were alone. Both the tasting menu and pairing wines were excellent; the service, second to none.
Wonderful service but a bit pricey for the experience
I agree with much of what Shellym827 had to say about her mixed experience. Although I very much enjoyed the half pairing of Austrian wines I did with the six-course menu, I also found it off-putting that the restaurant did not give prices for its wines and I was surprised o see that a half pairing was so expensive. (I should add that I often do wine pairings at Michelin-rated restaurants and am no stranger to high price tags.) In addition, I lived in Japan and enjoy Japanese cuisine so I was interested to see how the chef would combine Japanese and Austrian flavors. While I enjoyed the various courses, nothing really stood out to me as I dish I would be eager to come back and eat again. It seems like some ingredient combinations tried a bit too hard and didn't completely work. The service was warm and friendly and I will dream of that incredible bread cart for a long time. Overall, I enjoyed my experience but I wouldn't return given the price tag.

Yelp Review 2023 #265: Regarded as one of the world's best restaurants and boasting 2 Michelin stars, Steirereck is very intentional about modernizing their food but yet making them still recognizable. Located in a park, is this small mirror building reflecting the sky, clouds and the trees around it. I reserved my table a month before the World Cup so I can have a nice meal to finish my world tour around Christmas. My itinerary kept changing but changing my reservation was easy. The only time I could squeeze having a 2-hour meal in was during lunch. They open the door for you and to the left is a shelf full of alcohol. Then, the small dining area with only about 7 tables. Sophisticated, clean, and quiet. Since I don't drink, I got a Vitamin Cocktail (non-alcoholic beverage made with fresh fruits and herbs). They have prix fixe menus or you can order a la carte. I like sampling food to get an idea what a restaurant is really about so, I did the prix fixe. Started of course with the amuse bouche - the savory macaron was the most memorable one out of the three I got. Then, a gentleman with a cart full of different kinds of bread. The selection was quite impressive - I believe the cart has at least 14 kinds of bread. I only tried a couple because I have more food coming. The rest of my meal: Tiger Trout with Golden Beet, Berner Rose Apple & Nasturtium Piglet's Tail with Swiss Chard, Shiso & Black Currant Paprika Chicken with Butter Dumplings, Fennel & Wild Chervil Forest Perennial Rye Soufflé with Cornell Cherry, Dark Chocolate & Coffee Soufflé Austrian Christmas cookies They place a card on the table with details of each dish you get. I remember seeing schnitzel on the menu but I went with the Paprika Chicken instead. And then, I realized I may have COVID when I couldn't taste my food anymore. At least I got to enjoy the first few dishes prior to getting the Paprika Chicken and desserts. I can tell you with confidence that their bathroom is clean and quiet. I went several times every time I had the urge to cough. Despite finding out that I was sick, I enjoyed my meal and the amazing service. I do remember I was hoping it was the last dish because I was getting full. But more food kept coming.

This restaurant will go down as one of the top 5 meals of my life. A mirrored building in a historic park? A bread cart AND a cheese cart? Fresh takes on Austrian cuisine? An unmatched wine list? Yes, yes, yes.

When you brag about being one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, you need to bring your A game. I've eaten at many Michelin star restaurants, French Laundry in Yountville, L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Paris, La Pergola in Rome, to name just a few. To say I was disappointed in Steirereck, is an understatement. Normally I would go dish by dish, but I'm not going to bother. Basically the amuse-bouche were the tastiest things we ate all night. Course after course of bland forgettable food. The best things I can say about the sauce were when foamed, it provided a texture, but not much else. Sauce can really make a dish, and their saucier really let every dish down throughout the night. I go into a meal with an open mind and trusting of the chef, which is why I love tasting menus. You tell me what I should eat tonight. Don't let my preconceived notions cloud my judgement of what something is going to taste like, thus perhaps I miss something special on the menu. But this time, I didn't think flavors worked well together. Why were poppy seeds on a plain asparagus spear? And the foamy Apricot sauce wasn't sweet, nor the Lamb's Lettuce purée savory. Without any flavor from the sauces, I got an asparagus spear dipped in poppy seeds....And at the end of the savory courses we got a final lukewarm forgettable pigeon dish so feminine looking it would have made Georgia O'Keeffe blush. Then the restaurant itself was very hot, so this was a very uncomfortable meal and so so long and poorly paced. Pacing is important when fine dining. Too slow and you get full and uninterested in the next course. The bread cart actually came around twice between courses. I can actually tell you how long the meal took because my phone records the time I took each photo. 8:00 pm we sat down. 8:08 - bread cart 8:22 - amuse bouche 8:40 - 1st course....so far ok 9:14 - 2nd course...34 min? 9:30 - 3rd course 9:55 - 4th course....25 isn't great but wait for it... 10:41 - 5th course...46 minutes!!!!! 11:04 - 6th course 11:23 - final desserts brought with bill. I've had 20 course dinners in less time. That 46 minute wait really had us considering walking out, especially when the food wasn't that good, and the restaurant was uncomfortable. So was there anything good? Yes the bread cart was outstanding. Now I don't know if they normally come around so many times that you have to say no thank you. But we did get to try so many different breads. My favorite was the black pudding bread. Most at my table were scared off by it, but I was rewarded for my bravery. Now should Steirereck get so much credit for this bread cart? I'm not sure. They aren't baking this bread in house. They have relationships with all kinds of artesian bread makers around Vienna, who do all the work for them. And Steirereck gets the credit by nicely displaying it on a cart. So they are just a middle man. Although the bread sommelier, really knew his stuff and fun to talk to. Happy to discuss how each was produced, he was our entertainment for the long long evening. So in closing, Steirereck should be less concerned about making sure their World's 50 Best is etched in the glass door, and pay more attention to how their food tastes and how well their kitchen is run in order to have a properly paced meal. Because if they were at one point the king.... They are standing naked now, which might explain why they think they don't need to pay for air conditioning.
This restaurant is a total scam.
First, there's a COVER charge just for sitting down, 9 euros per person. WTF this is not a dance club! They tack on a 10% service charge as well. The food tastes have no balance; one thing overpowers the rest. The cheese is super salty. Very underwhelming compared to Providence in LA. They drag on 6 courses for 3 hours and you are so bored you want to get up and leave. Save your money, its 520 euros for 2 ppl. They don't tell you the price of anything they bring in front of you to make you embarrassed to ask, then you find out its 80 dollars a glass. These are the hallmarks of a PREDATORY restaurant. Also for you Instagrammers, no the food is not photogenic see pic attached. they ruined my wife's ice cream scoop, it just plopped down onto the sauce in the plate. the dude just said enjoy and walked away. like those olympian gymnasts that don't stick the landing. oh well! i personally suspect they cheated to get their Michelin stars.
Food was great.
Service was just ok (need to really step it up for Michelin Star restaurant). The air conditioning was non existent with 90F temperature outside. We asked if they could turn the air on or adjust it as it was warm and stifling in the restaurant. They were very nice and said they adjusted it, but there was never any air conditioning. By the time we finished our meal and went outside to the 77F temperature, it actually felt better than inside the restaurant as there was at least a slight breeze outside. Brought a ticket with one price then a different price after they ran our credit card. We did change out a wine on the pairing we did not care for. Not a big deal they charged us for those glasses, but for a Michelin Star restaurant, they should have that taken care of before bringing the bill the first time around. They also never came and cleaned crumbs from the table and did not clear wine glasses (I did not drink all of my wine for each pairing, but I had to ask them to clear 4 glasses from the table at one point). Again, food was great, wine paring was good (just one wine we didn't prefer and they changed to one we did like), service is mediocre (think they're living off reputation and their "stars"). Just don't go in the summer or when the temperature is more than 65F outside.
My favorite Michelin 2-star restaurant in Vienna.
Located in the middle of Stadtpark, the food, location (unassuming), and service is exemplary. Highly recommend the Venison. Their bread cart is dazzling in terms of variety alone. Austrian wines a must for pairing...who was to know!

My trip to Vienna, I wanted to check out a Michelin restaurant and Steirereck is rated top 12 restaurant in the world. This is my first 2 star Michelin restaurant. The restaurant is located in Stadtpark. The building is modern with mirrors and glass. Service is exceptional, the food was focused on Austrian food. Ingredients were locally sourced all over Austria. Every dishes that came out with a card that explains the dish and the ingredients.

Outstanding Dining Experience
One of our all-time favorite dining experiences. Every dish was multilayered, complex, creative yet balanced. Standouts were the char, leek heart, duck and the Jerusalem artichoke ice cream dessert (simply mindblowing.) On top of all that, the ridiculously rich and varied bread and cheese carts were an experience like none other - we are considering going back just to be able to sample the many breads and cheeses we weren’t able to try this time. Service was highly professional and attentive - it felt like half of the entire staff came to our table at some point to serve or explain a dish, including Mrs. Reitbauer herself. Interior is stylish, sleek and discrete. The only slight criticism is that I would have wished for a little more transparency on the pricing of the “aperitifs” and some of the other surcharges that drove up the bill quite a bit. Overall, an unforgettable experience that we cannot recommend enough.
Another level
There are Michelin starred restaurants and then there is another level and Steirereck is absolutely in that group. Everyone is fun and friendly yet they make you feel special. It’s slick, welcoming and utterly professional. And this feeds the overall atmosphere - not staid like many restaurants, but relaxed, trusting and enjoyable. This is before the food and a tasting menu which was a real journey with 7 hits out of 7. In terms of memorable and fulfilling high-end meals, this one makes my top 3 alongside El Bulli and Favikken.

Every single dish were carefully explained. 5 STARS across the board.

The food, service and venue are top class, definitely worth the money and an experience not to be missed in Vienna. Cheese and bread trolleys are amazing and the best we have experienced.

Classy ambiance with finely choreographed services. The 7 course tasting menu was €210 plus €105 for wine pairing. Additional glass of champagne or sparkling wine for €28 to €49. Dinner for 4 ran us roughly €1500. The dinner took 5 hours. Most of the dishes were pretty impressive. The most impressive part of the dinner was the bread service. It came in a bread cart with more than 25 kinds of bread baked in-house daily. Their signature dish was a char cooked in hot beeswax. The beeswax was peeled away after it cooled. This method is similar to a confit. While to cooking method seems elaborate the flavor of the fish was good but not that impressive. It was an interesting dining experience if you are into that sort of things.

..I wanted to love this place. We had looked *so* forward to it, but it was just...solid. Out of the 16 Michelin rated restaurants in Vienna, I had to narrow it down, so I used the Worlds 50 Best Restaurant list. Once we had our flight tickets, I made reservations; anticipation was a go! The best parts of the evening were the bread & cheese carts. The gentlemen serving from each were polite, engaging and informative. They were the highlights of the evening.Then there's the seven-course meal. I wanted to love it. Some dishes were better than others...it was a good, strong meal. Each course came with a menu card, providing a brief description. Plating was beautiful. Service was solid. But what threw me off was the bill *after* we left. We took a cursory look, paid, and left. We did not notice the charge €10 charge for Marille Wetter or the €20 for the 2016 BdNoir...and don't know what those were. Considering our total bill, with 14% tip was €600, it didn't seem worth the quibble. But it left a weird feeling.The measure of a good meal, for me, is whether we would return. I'm on the fence with this one. After you drop serious €, snag a difficult reservation and make a trek halfway across the world, you want to leave feeling satiated and content; I didn't. Of all the Michelin meals we've had (CA, IL, NY, Italy, France and now Austria), there are a few I would definitely return to and three are on a regular rotation. If you go, just don't go with any expectation and you might enjoy the meal. I think I ruined it for myself with so much anticipation of dining at one of the World's Best 50.

and always on the top 50 best restaurants in the world. We had to make reservations at this place before going. And they'll take down your credit card, and if you don't show, they'll charge 150 a person. We could only secure a lunch spot, but it was still a lovely dining experience. We decided to get a 4 item prefixed meal, and we got to try a lot of different items split between 2 people. (for the 4 item course, you'll get to choose between dessert or cheese for your last course, if you want both, you'll need to pick the 5 item prefixed meal)To begin the meal, they'll provide some amuse bouche. It was 3 different small items.The most interesting thing was that they cooked a fish in bees wax right in front of you. Everything was cooked to perfection and the presentation was superb! They also give you a post card explaining what you're eating and the ingredients that go into making the dish.Just a heads up, on the receipt, they'll charge something for setting up the table. not entirely sure what that charge was for. PS: the bathroom downstairs were confusing. Letters D and H were outside each door, and i had no idea which one was the men's room. But later i found out D = Female and H = Males. just a FYI.

* PerceptiveWash44 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to PerceptiveWash44 for any questions Peter may have as PerceptiveWash44 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* PerceptiveWash44 now uses their connections at Steirereck Wien to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If PerceptiveWash44 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, PerceptiveWash44 receives the $200 reward which is credited to PerceptiveWash44's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
