The view is beautiful, the service was magnificent.
The food was gorgeous. The taste and texture of the fish I ordered was just ok. For the price, I would recommend so many other places. However, the view, the location, it's the top.
Be the first to ReplyI've been to other spago in other locations.
Spago never ceases to amaze me. The food is fresh and good. The service ia good and my server was nice and attentive. He gave me some recommendations and knowledgeable . I'll start with the cold small appetizer from Kona Lobster ceviche and kampachi tostadas ( oh my... good and good) then for my big grand finale is crusted crab with kampachi ( amazing combination), i love the duo combination and last to end my wonderful dinner i had the special strawberry meringue dessert ( i finished the whole thing, so .. u must be wondering if it good or not if i finished the whole thing).

If you're staying in Wailea and can't make the trek to Mama's in Paia. This is very comparable in terms of food. My parents and I dined here for dinner and everything from the service to the food exceptional.

Thought it would be a nice place to have a lovely dinner and evening... We were quickly seated and the service was great. The staff were very nice and the view was great. The outdoor dining area is definitely very windy in some areas (just fyi). Ordered Thai style coconut curry, gnocchi, pork chop, pomme frittes, chocolate soufflé, and our usual drinks. Everything was lovely until about an hour after dinner... FOOD POISONING besides that.. it was good
Be the first to ReplyI am never really one to leave a bad review.
I initially had a good experience walking in until the I was ordering and food came. I went to go have dinner for my four year anniversary and it almost felt like the server was selling me the most expensive things on the menu. I was told to get the sashimi platter that was $180, the bolognese gnocchi which was the only thing i enjoyed, the truffle pasta which was $95 and a steak. The truffle pasta was disappointing and when I told the server it was not good, he went off on how it was gluten free and was cooked in butter and all sorts of stuff. It didn't sit well with us and just felt like we were there just to be sold the most expensive things on the menu. I just wanted to leave an honest review for those that are considering going.

We 2 couples dined at Spago last night, as we have numerous times thru past few years. Every element of our evening was excellent!! service couldn't have been more warm, friendly and helpful. The food was very delicious, and taking in the gorgeous views was an extra bonus!! We'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyHad the New Year's eve 7 course meal.
Overall service was fantastic; a dropped napkin or you leave the table- your napkin is replaced. Your water cup is low and a server quickly comes by to refill it. I think food overall was alright; there were only a 1-2 dishes that I thought were very well done, the others were unremarkable. Specifically the first starting dish was very nice-- very well balanced and delicate. Sushi was also quite nice and so were the desserts. I was quite disappointed by the truffle dish; it came off a bit bland to me, and more so I was surprised white truffles weren't used instead since they're in season only in these few months and in my opinion are more flavorful in pasta. Other than that, I wish the last few dishes were smaller. The first few dishes were perhaps the best, and they were so small, and the later dishes were slightly overwhelming and too much. I was quite full by the time the ribeye came out. I also would have been happy if the final dessert was just one item, instead of three, although it did make for delicious leftovers!! The desserts were quite lovely and unique, playing with textures and flavors. In terms of ambiance, it was a bit too loud and rowdy than I expected, but the views for new years was unparalleled. Having a front row seat to the fireworks was incredible. And the server also was incredibly attentive to make sure all our champagne glasses were always filled, right up until the last few seconds before the new year. Overall this was a unique experience that will be unforgettable, although I might not necessary decide to come here without an occasion like new year's eve.

Ok....team David (who we asked for specifically) turned our previous tense experience at Spago into magic. He and his team brought us their absolute best and it was so appreciated. David was completely detailed in his preparation of any special requests. Whatever had fallen short on our previous visit was quickly forgotten. The incredible food and spectacular setting is always a given and we honestly had a PERFECT evening. Thank you and see you next year!
Be the first to ReplyFood is good, but it is very overpriced.
Menu is very similar to the LA Spago--tuna tartare flutes etc... with some sushi. At some point you have to ask yourself if 3 slices of salmon are worth $40 even with the ambience etc... If you aren't staying at the Four Seasons, likely going to one of the less good tables. There are much much better options for food, location, and service on Maui and certainly at a better price. Easily the most expensive place I'm aware of on the island.
Be the first to ReplySpago has a lovely ambiance with gorgeous sunset views.
The staff is accommodating and the service is impeccable. Extensive wine list and fabulous food.
Be the first to ReplyService was off the charts! Warm and informative.
Waiter helped us match wine choices with our food choices. Great evening.

Great restaurant for a nice dinner, but nothing extremely memorable. Service is great.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful views and truly great service.
The bread basket was absolutely divine. But the rest was hit & miss. The purple yam purée served with the Mahi was fabulous, but the tiny bland piece of unseasoned fish was completely overwhelmed by a thick layer of roasted Macadamia nuts. Literally all you could taste was the nuts. Skip. The chicken was fine, could not taste the goat cheese it was prepared with but the skin was nice & crispy. Everything on the menu was SO overpriced, however there were little touches along the way that were incredibly memorable such as the kindness & efficiency of the gentleman who was a secondary staff member. The manager also, who came by to thank us for spending our evening at Spago was such a nice surprise. This is a 80% Asian menu, and we were not expecting this. We thought it would be more similar to the Spago we enjoyed in S CA; our fault for not researching the menu better prior to our visit.
Be the first to ReplyIt was just ok.
Was expecting more but 3 stars is accurate. Server tried hard but didn't hear us. It's a shame too because we'd really looked forward to it.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific food and service.
The chicken was the best I ever ate and we felt spoiled the entire time. Definitely recommend!
Be the first to ReplyLoved it.
Celebrated my partners birthday, our server, the food, and the ambiance was amazing. Looking forward to dining here in the future.

From the view, the service and the food this Spago hits the mark. There is a lot of attention to detail in all the dishes and we loved every bite. The pasta appetizer and the Asian pear burrata were some of our favorites. By far one of the best meals in all of Maui.

I have a review last year that noted a downgrade in Spago Maui. This year was a bounce back to what we expect there and led us to a second reservation this visit to Maui. Yes, they no longer had the dish (Wienerschnitzel) I had last year - but the food quality and service was excellent - the pork chop was wonderful and the risotto spot on. Pomme frites and mushroom tagliatelle passed muster from everyone including a hungry 2 year old! Thanks. Will return.

Overall, the food was very good (except my risotto was only like warm at best). This place is Very busy- make a reservation. Pricy- be prepared.

Wow.. what can I say.. I'm still dreaming about this dinner. Ridiculousness. The best meal I had in a long time. Some fish is a bit dry, my snapper was amazing.. the rib eye cookies sushi and everything else were divine. The service is great place is by the bar, so you can have a drink before you get seated. Beautiful ambience and super romantic
Be the first to ReplyThis was a difficult call on the rating.
I hated to go with four stars, but as I pondered our experience, four seemed to be the right decisionMy wife and I went last night to celebrate her birthday. We had been to Spago's in Maui before, and we secured a table for this visit as soon as it was available online. I had to set a reminder to check every day so I wouldn't miss the window. As the day rapidly approached, I received the confirmation message from the restaurant, to which I enthusiastically replied "yes" and even specified that we would be celebrating my wife's birthday. A wonderful evening was set!We arrived just before the reservation time and we're welcomed by the hostesses. We we seated at a beautiful outside table, in the shade, looking out across the water as the sun began its descent to sundown. A picturesque moment indeed. Picturesque - but marred by a still 25-30 knot wind. At first we were willing to persevere though the wind, but once we were handed paper menus, that we had to place two glasses and two hands on just to keep them from whipping away, we decided that perhaps the outdoor moment was not going to work. Anticipating that the wind would also blow away any food - we asked to be relocated to an inside table. I'm still scratching my head as to why the restaurant wouldn't place daily menus into some type of sturdier presentation. Again, the hostesses were gracious and accommodated us at a nice spacious table inside. Now, the interior seats were not quite as magnificent as the outdoor area - the room felt like the decor was as afterthought as an overflow space. It was ok - but I did expect more. Being seated we were approached by our waiter. We had carried our flimsy paper menus from outside - and the waiter, perhaps trying to be cute, commented on us bring our own menu and suggested he was going to tell the chef that we had wanted to prepare our own dinner as well. The humor fell flat, and set an odd tone for the mealWe ordered two drinks - a sparkling rose and a signature 1944 mai tai. The rose was good, the mai tai was simply average. I finished it - but switched to a much better gin concoction that was tart and tangy. Much better cocktailSo all this mediocrity was ultimately overtaken by the amazing food. Let me emphasize this - the little details we noted to this point were completely overshadowed by sublime cuisine. We enjoyed two appetizers - the poke cones and the lobster salad. Mouthwateringly good. We had been anticipating the poke cones from our previous visit and they were every bit as good as we rememberedFor our entrees, my wife had the red curry and I had the steamed onaga. Both dishes were absolutely outstanding. Truly epic food - on par with meals we have had at Le BernadinAs we relished the last of the entrees and were gazing at the deepening sunset, we did decide to try the Baked Haleakala (baked Alaskan) as a dessert. We were full, but wanted to try the sweet. In fairness, it would be hard for a dessert to compare to the entrees, but this could have been better. It was anti-climactic, unfortunately. We left Spago's and were ecstatic about our meal, the minor flaws fading into the distant memories. As we walked back, I did reflect that no one there even mentioned my wife's birthday. While I don't have expectations of any type of presentation or gratis plate, the fact that they asked in advance about the "Special occasion"" yet failed to even acknowledge her birthday when checking in or being seated - that was a big missWill we go back - definitely. But the little things were noticed and that keeps me from giving five stars. At elite restaurants such as this, the little things certainly matter.

My BF and I made reservations here so I could see the hotel where White Lotus was filmed . The service and food were amazing . Our waiter Andy was attentive and made great suggestions . The location was breathtaking. We enjoyed watching the sunset over the water . We had the uni and hamachi appetizer. Then the sesame seared ahi and my special fish dish . The deserts were wonderful . I had the mango merengue and chocolate banana ganache.
Be the first to ReplyWanted to give more than 2 stars but things happened.
We had reservation and got sat at the window seat looking at the pool and ocean. The view was perfect for a beautiful dinner. Received a plate of bread with sea salt butter first, which paired great with our pinot noir. Then got an appetizers of Lobster salad. That was yum!!!! Then butterfish which was okay but not bad. Then we got truffle risotto which came with lots of mushrooms but the rice wasn't cooked thru and too much creme. Then I ordered another bottle of red to go along with steak and mahi mahi mac nut crusted. Steak was good but the Mahi Mahi was just mac nuts on top of it not like other place that they really covered the whole fillet then pan fried the fish with light flour and mac nuts. We left home happy as the service was great. My friend tipped the servers to make sure they are happy like us. The bill was $700 for 2 people. Until 2 am my friend had to run to restroom. Very bad diarrhea for 4 times at night. In the morning he started to throw up on top of diarrhea. I had only diarrhea luckily. He couldn't go anywhere but bathroom the whole night and next day. He was sooooooo weak, couldn't even walk. Gave him pills but he thew it all up. Day 2 he finally felt better but still had diarrhea. Day 2 he still couldn't eat anything as he will throw up. Day 3, he ate a bit of bread for lunch and a bit for dinner. Day 4 he ate breakfast lunch and dinner almost normal. Day 5 had to go back to LA. The trip is over. This Hawaii trip is totally not as expexted :( i dont know if we will ever go back to any Spago to get food poisoning again.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and food.
