Smyth Tribeca New York Reviews from The Last Year
Incredible room, views and service at an excellent value
What a great property, at a great value. From the property managers to the front desk staff, from the porter to the bartenders, the Smyth staff is fantastic, energetic, and genuinely interested in making sure guests have a good time. We loved the location and the room. Our suite felt like a true NYC apartment, with a dining room, a work nook, and a comfortable living room — plus a nice bedroom and large bath. We overlooked W Broadway, Hudson and Chambers — so cool! Steps away from great restaurants and bars, awesome sightseeing & people watching. What a great find.
Great experience at the Smyth
Excellent service, great location, very quiet despite being on a busy street. Xavier the bellman and Uran at the front desk went way above and beyond to help us with outer family event. These guys are great, and all the staff was really helpful and friendly. We would return in a second.
Great location, big room & bathroom!
I stayed here for the first time on a work trip and loved the hotel! It was pricey, but for the location and the size of the rooms and bathroom - it cannot be beat. The lobby staff was all amazing, and there was a full bar / lounge and restaurant downstairs. My only suggestion would be full length mirrors in the rooms.
Terrific Hotel, Wonderful Staff and a really Great Location!
We had a really terrific stay at the Smyth Tribeca - and look forward very much to our next visit. From the warmth and ease of initial welcome, the beautiful room (generous, spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable), the calm surroundings of the reception area, bar and dining room - and the delicious food and drinks! Also the location is perfect for walking around Tribeca and Downtown - and the subway is right alongside the front door. Everything about this hotel was really perfect, but most especially the warmth , kindness and professionalism of the incredible team. Thank you to all and particularly Nick, Xavier and Yubi. We had a truly great time!!
Excellent Tribeca Location and Friendly Staff
Overall, we were satisfied with our stay at The Smyth, but expected more. The location is great! One can walk to an array of restaurants, coffee places, and desirable tourist sites. The subway entrance is just outside the front door. It is super convenient. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating with only one exception -- one of the bartenders who couldn't have cared less about us. The room was small and relatively inefficiently designed. With a couple of computers, phones, Apple watches, etc., we were challenged to charge all of the devices each night with the room's 3 110v outlets and some old USB 2.0 ports that don't work with USB-C connectors. The bathroom is small, and lacks counter space. Our rear facing room was very clean and quiet, especially for NYC.
Clean, well located, and friendly staff
We enjoyed our weekend at at the Smyth Tribeca. Clean well maintained rooms at a fair price in a great location. Friendly and accommodating staff. Terrific bar attached to the lobby too.
We stayed at the Smyth tribeca for a bachelorette weekend
We stayed at the Smyth tribeca for a bachelorette weekend and could not recommend it more. We had booked a suite and 2 double rooms. All of the rooms were a great size, especially for New York! The people we encountered at the front desk could not have been nicer and more accommodating as we had a big group of girls. Gabriel was fantastic and so helpful with all of our questions we bombarded him with. I fully recommend this place for a quick weekend stay!
Substandard housekeeping and grubby suite
We stayed in a suite for four nights (Room 803). The hotel is in a great location for Soho, and very quiet despite being right next to a subway - 3 stops on the express train and you are in Times Square. That there is where the positives end, unfortunately. Because this hotel has some exceedingly shabby rooms which it is willing to sell for in excess of $600 per night excluding breakfast. The room and the bathroom were very grubby and in desperate need of a deep clean. The carpet was stained. There was dust everywhere. Dust so thick that in places I could write my name in it. On the wall by the bed it looked like someone had been sick and the spatter had not been cleared up. There was a wrapper under a cabinet which was there when we arrived and still there when we left four days later. The carpet had not seen a thorough vacuum for a while. I stepped on a sewing needle on the last morning, and injured my toe. The suite had a bed (comfortable but dusty) and a sofa bed (ouch!) which needs to be condemned. Quite dreadful. You don’t need to sleep in this bed to know it’s bad, you just need to sit on the edge to hear and feel the broken springs. My back is still paying the price. The bathroom was also not clean. At skirting board level there was a lot of grime around the shower, and more dust. Lots of dust. And, again, spatter on the walls. The toiletries and amenities were replaced once in four days, and then only when we requested it. Apparently we can share one shower cap between two? The housekeeping was substandard. Dirty towels were not removed and coffee cups were not cleaned. These things are easily missed once. But after 4 days we still waited. No slippers were provided until requested. At this price point I am shocked that this hotel would be willing to let guests stay in this room. Actually, at any price point I do think a certain level of hygiene should be provided. When I checked out, I suggested the room should be taken out of commission and deep cleaned. We were comped a breakfast and some mini bar items which was a nice gesture, but which amounted to about 3% of the total bill. We did not get an apology. I have photos but unfortunately the app won’t allow me to upload them.
Smyth Team Exceeds all expectations!
Smyth Tribeca staff made our stay beyond perfect! From texts received prior to arrival, check in process, housekeeping and coffee service, the doormen…all went above and beyond expectations. Corner room was perfect! Nick has a great team!! It’s our new “go to” Manhattan hotel of choice! We will be back soon!
Awesome location, great hotel & especially staff!
Rooms are spacious especially the suites. Lots of room to hang with friends during our stay! Bar has a great vibe and serves up tasty cocktails. Location was great, close to subways and felt safe. Would highly recommend!
HIDDEN FEES.
BEWARE! Stayed as part of a wedding block and I was quoted one amount and then upon checkout was hit with additional fees... facility charge, charitable donation... NOT OKAY. I give to charity, but charities of MY choosing AND as for a facility charge, this makes NO SENSE... we stayed in a facility based on the quoted price and the sneakiness of the add-ons was deceitful and unprofessional. So disappointed.

4.5 stars. I stayed here for 4 nights in October for work, and it was great. The location was close to our office but also close to many good restaurants and bars (my favorite was Holy Water, two blocks away). Rooms are quite spacious by Manhattan standards, and were recently upgraded (bathrooms are light and roomy). Prices are also pretty reasonable.
Had a good experience.
Location, room and the team overall. Kenya is amazing at the speakeasy in the hotel. Abdul at the hotel registration was attentive and personable. Rooms are a good size for nyc. Close to the subway. Overall, the team here made our experience. Thanks!!

There were two managers (or hosts?) I encountered, one who was extremely skilled with customer service, and one who was not. I will call them Person1 (skilled) and Person2 (not so skilled). The PROS: - Walking distance to my work - Great neighborhood, as I used to live in the area - Very friendly front desk staff - Very Reasonable room rates - Very Reasonable valet parking rates The CONS: 1. 1 Hour Late Check: Our room was 1 hour late from check in time because the staff had to clean up extra from the previous guest. That was fine with me, I was okay to wait. Person1 was extremely compassionate and offered us a $75 voucher for the bar or Smyth Tavern. I was pleasantly surprised and appreciative. 3 of my friends came to meet me at the hotel (as I was expecting to be ready to head out for dinner by then), and I asked Person2 (Person1 had stepped away) if we could grab $75 worth of drinks at the Tavern while we waited for the room. Person2 said "No, there are too many of you, plus your friends are not guests of the hotel. We can give you a glass of champagne each instead." I completely understood we weren't entitled to anything at all, so I said "Okay thank you." But I still don't understand why Person2 was so exasperated, as I knew the comp was limited to $75. Even if it went above $75, they could have charged the extra to my room. Instead the group of us had to stand awkwardly at the front desk while this strange exchange happened... 2. Dirty Room: The trash from the previous guest was not emptied, and was filled over the brim. The corner of the closet door was broken off, and there was a strange brown streak on the wall of the bathroom. 3. Malfunctioning Bedroom door: We stayed in a suite where there was a bedroom door. When my husband shut the door to the bedroom from the outside, we were locked out of the bedroom. We went to the front desk and they called the hotel "engineer" (similar to a super?) to fix it. He did a great job, and we were thankful. 4. $1100+ bill from the Hotel (!!): After we checked out, I was extremely dissatisfied and confused to receive a bill for $1100+. I called the Hotel and thankfully Person1 answered. He apologized for all of the inconveniences I experienced, and corrected the mistaken charges to $300+ (which was accurate for parking and hotel fees). He even took off one of the fees because of the trash that was not emptied from the previous guest. I was extremely grateful for the ease of this conversation. 5. The $65 straw that broke the camel's back: 2+ weeks later, I received yet another charge on my card for $65 from the hotel. My stay was already over 3 weeks ago. This is why I am writing this review, this is completely unacceptable and borderline-fraudulent behavior from whoever is approving and executing these charges at the hotel. No matter how convenient and great the location, how great SOME of the staff are, I will never stay at this hotel again.
Going to keep it simple.
Pros: Location, Staff, spacious rooms, quaint, sexy lounge with fireplace, restaurant, ambiance, great music, diverse/sophisticated Cons: Mattresses (not the best quality, but I had a restful sleep), windows are not sound proof (the sounds of the city did not bother me, but may bother others), updated, but still somewhat tired. Overall, an excellent stay, especially in New York City. Big bang for your buck.
The Smyth feels like home away from home.
I tried another hotel this trip based on price and checked out after the first night to go back to the Smyth. The rooms are clean, but warm and welcoming. The rooms are also a great size so you feel like you can breathe and move around. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I always enjoy my stay.
This hotel is a great location, quaint and very clean.
The restaurant has delicious food and delicious drinks. I had the pasta with shrimp and my husband had the burger and brussel sprouts. We also had the breakfast daily and was equally as pleased with it. I prefer Tribeca, Soho, West Village, Grenwhich out of all the neighborhoods in NYC. I will definitely be back.
Excellent two-night stay at the Smyth.
Room was comfortable and larger than I expected. It was spotlessly clean and smelled wonderful. The staff were welcoming and genuine. The hotel has a really nice lounge to the right of the lobby for relaxing and grabbing a drink; and a tavern on the left where I had a very tasty burger at the bar. It's a great location as you're a short walk to Hudson River Park and the Oculus.
The Pros - Surprisingly comfortable room - Decent shower
The Pros - Surprisingly comfortable room - Decent shower (although it took a while to get warm at night) - Clean and well maintained - Friendly and helpful stuff - Decent location near subways - Room not as small as some other nearby boutique options - Good restaurant on premises - Good with little things (water, dental kit if you forget toothbrushes etc) The Cons - HVAC gets cold AF but room gets warm quick when you raise the temp - Bed wasn't super comfortable, mattress felt soft and almost sunken (and I'm normal weight/height) Generally the pros outweigh the cons though it was kind of tricky to get a good night's sleep on an iffy mattress. But who knows if that's just my room or all over. Either way this is a decent choice to stay overall, given the price relative to other nearby hotels.
Had the best experience here this past weekend! Great
Had the best experience here this past weekend! Great location, service, and staff. Special shout out to Mario at the front desk for making me feel like a VIP guest and helping with anything I needed in a timely manner. Thank you!!!!
The best hotel in NYC!
We have stayed at 5-star luxury hotels in NYC before but this 4-star hotel (how it couldn't be a 5-star is beyond me) is so much better and more value for the buck! A fantastic hotel and staff at the perfect spot in TriBeca, just next to subway 123, a block away from ACE and just a little bit further from 6 and R. We will come back! They made our anniversary very memorable bringing us champagne and red roses to our room <3 What a amazing staff and the rooms are great and very modern! We first stayed at room 604 but a plumbing leak issue made us to change rooms and the staff gave us a luxury suite instead (room 910). The suite had an amazing terrace with views over both World Trade One and the Empire State Building <3 Amazing handling from the staffs side! Kind regards, Elebring family <3
