Love this location they always are the best , great food and service. Went recently for my father's 65th bday and Noelle could not have done a better job , what a superstar waitress !

If I could give 100 stars, I would! Everything was perfect from the time we arrived, to the time we left. It was incredible!! The service, the food, everything!! We were celebrating our anniversary, and they made it genuinely special!! The steaks were incredibly good, all of the food was perfect. Thank you!!
Be the first to ReplyFood was great.
Had a filet which was cooked perfectly. Desserts were delicious. View was awesome over looking the canal. Service was excellent. Recommend making reservations.

Arrived a little before and were seated right away. Got a table by the window. Rainy evening, but still had a nice view. Service was prompt and everyone was very attentive! Everything from the wine to dessert was delicious! I would recommend this restaurant and look forward to another visit soon!

I've eaten at a few high end steak houses and several that are in the top ten and this one was easily the best. I had the 28 ounce Cajun marinated ribeye and it was fantastic. We also ordered fillet, sea bass, Caesar salad, the Wollensky salad, asparagus and macaroni and cheese. Finished with a crème brûlée which they gave to us for free since we were there celebrating my son's graduation from Navy boot camp.

So we got here, sit down at the table and not sure how long we waited to actually be greeted ( but it wasn't quick at all) Get the waters and I ask for a straw .... What seemed like hours later we finally get asked what we want for drinks and we of course ordered an appetizer and arrived after a decent wait along with the drinks ( still waiting on the straw I ordered for my water) We ordered the carpaccio which was good but obviously a very small portion ( normal) We then ordered our entree ( both medium well) waited a longer period of time for them to arrive and they both came well done - I then ordered another drink ( and still waiting on the straw) Super horrible presentation We ordered a side of truffle fries that were cold, drenching in oil and not good at all Finished our food and right at that point my second dive arrived Service felt almost racist Like they didn't care at all we were there Like we didn't look rich enough to deserve an outstanding service Drinks 4 stars Food presentation 1 star Food temperature 1 star Food flavor 3 stars Service 0 stars We left and not even a good bye- thanks for your visit was received by neither one at the restaurant Unfortunately we won't be coming back here which is sad but even sadder is that I never received the straw I asked for ...: Terrible.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Valentine's Day.
The food and service was underwhelming and there's no reason to come back here when there's a plethora of steakhouses to choose from in Chicago. So many things went wrong. 1) We ordered the crab cake appetizer and it smelled like fish. It was mushy, not crispy. 2) My filet mignon was served cold. The manager told me that this is because the steak comes straight from the fridge because that's how American food safety laws dictate steak should be stored. I didn't buy this because I've never been served a cold steak in a Chicago steakhouse before. Judging by previous Yelp reviews, several customers have complained about being served cold food. 3) Then, our creamed spinach and whipped potatoes were served cold as well. At this point, I knew I would never dine here again. 4) Next, I watched a waiter sneeze into his open palm twice and then touch another customer's to-go bag. 5) Lastly, my car smelled like weed after the valet returned it to me.
Be the first to ReplyA great classic steak house in Chicago.
Me and my fiancé love this place. They are currently undergoing renovations on the lower level so we sat upstairs and still had a gorgeous window spot that over looked the river. Our waiter was wonderful and was able to point us in the direction of a food coma!

A Chicago institution! Great ambiance, great staff and amazing food. Make sure the Coconut Cream Cake is one your radar...you won't regret it.
Be the first to ReplySurf and turf was exceptional.
Caesar Salad was tasty. Waitress was engaging and helpful. Hostess came to our table and we enjoyed a pleasant conversation. All good. We will be back.

My family and I have an annual Christmas Eve tradition of eating at one of Chicago's great steakhouses. This year we picked Smith and Wollensky. It wasn't our first time there, but it was probably 15 years since our first visit. We were disappointed in our return sadly. For many reasons. Our server, Marlon, was very professional and initially extremely attentive. Drink menu very diverse and our soups were great (split pea and French onion). My son ordered a salad and specifically asked for no blue cheese (feta instead). It came with blue cheese; Marlon very apologetic, and took care of it quickly. My wife's tomato and onion salad disappointed as the tomatoes were mushy. Entrees were just okay; filets ordinary and my NY strip looked more like a ribeye. Nothing special. Sea bass probably best entree (ironic for a steak place) and sides (truffle Mac, whipped potatoes, brussel sprouts) also good, but again not special. Toward the end of our dinner we noticed our service really drop off. Not just our server, but the tables around us too. It's as if they all were working another part of the restaurant by design. By this point we simply wanted to box up a couple of the proteins, and maybe order one dessert. But the time delay was just too long and energy in the entire upper floor dining room seemed to drop. We passed on dessert. We got our bill, and talked amongst ourselves. Post COVID inflation was on display big time. We estimate same meal a few years ago was probably 20% less. When paying $600 plus for 4 people, plus tax and tip, we didn't think our expectations were out of line. Thus, the 3 star rating. Not sure we will be back any time soon.

We started out with a jumbo shrimp cocktail, then a delicious iceberg wedge salad with blue cheese crumbles. I had the 10oz filet which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I had a little béarnaise sauce. We were all highly impressed with the restaurant, staff, service, and views.

Ordered the Ribeye to go at "medium" temperature, and received this. Manager couldn't do anything for me.
Be the first to ReplyThe views are amazing, the food is pretty average.
We had the steak with the guajillo pepper butter, my husband had the rib eye and a lobster tail with the mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts to chair alongside a Cesar salad. My daughter had mac n cheese and French fries.Everything we had was warm upon arrival. The steak was literally charred over, never have I ever had a steak like that. Yuck! The mac n cheese was so terrible neither of us would dig into it. After one bite we knew it was terrible. The thing about this place is definitely the view and the 5 star service. Not sure we will be back we've had much better for the price. Bill was 260 for this meal add to edit*

I booked this restaurant as a lifelong Chicagoan who'd been wanting to try it for a while. The occasion was Valentine's Day. I wasn't overwhelmed at all. I have a lot of slack since it was VDay, but overall I didn't enjoy my time there. I was placed at a super small table while I watched others seated in intimate booths. When asked what was the difference in reservations, my server replied that it was based on nothing more than when they arrived. Our fillet mignon went back to the kitchen for being way over. The second steak came out way under. The scallop appetizer was really good, but the crab cake app had zero crust to it. My sea bass was under-seasoned. That fish needs heavy seasoning. My old-fashioned wasn't bad. It carried a slight punch, but it had little sweetness to it. It was quite bland. And my side of mash had green liquid on top that had to be some type of seasoned onion/garlic mix that tasted terrible. I wanted to like it so bad that I event got the cookie and ice cream dessert. The plate was fire hot, but the cookie was hard has a brick and the ice cream was frozen solid. I spent $400 here. Trust me when I say that's not a lot of money for this establishment. Notwithstanding, it did not feel like I got a $400 value. I have no reason to return.
Be the first to ReplyCharred crust steak.
Asked for medium rare and it was medium. Salads weren't good. Disappointed. We had been there several times. Not up to the restaurant 's standards.

Came into Chicago to celebrate Valentine's Day so we decided we wanted to splurge on a nice steakhouse. Want to start off by saying we had an AMAZING waitress, and the rest of the staff who assisted us was very kind - however from ordering our appetizer to our dinner: our food was cold. We ordered the roast beef popovers, the surf&turf for two with a side of truffle mac&cheese and a side of asparagus - everything was cold. We noticed that when other tables were done, the staff would bag their leftovers but we had to bag our own (which is okay but please make sure each guest is treated equally). Overall, I would not recommend the price we paid for the food being cold.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent establishment.
Loved the food, even has me looking for one in dc. Steaks were tasty and well cooked. Had the kids with us but next time they stay home and just the wife and I.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a great steakhouse.
All the steaks were cooked perfectly, all the appetizers and sides paired well. Great selection of wines and cocktails. Only thing is I think you can get just as good of a meal that is a little more reasonably priced elsewhere but other than that it was a great meal with great service.

I go to smith and wollensky about once a year and everytime, it's killer. First off, I love the classy chicago vibe and the location. This is the ONLY place I have ever thought to myself, " hey the chicago river is actually kinda pretty." As for the food, it's great and never lets me down. The bread they give you when you sit is buttery, herby, and the most pleasant surprise after the hike to get to river north. The appetizers are timeless and very delicious. Our favorites are the crab cakes and the spicy shrimp one. Now for the meat of this review. I've had multiple steaks from this place and they are juicy and flavorful. The crust are really good and I am a fan of the Gorgonzola steak. Some of these people on here have said some negative stuff about the steak... all I can say to that is when you order a well done steak, you are setting yourself up for failure and should probably not be ordering red meat. The sides are very good as well. I love the spinach, truffle Mac and cheese, and mushrooms. I have a sweet tooth and eyes bigger than my stomach so obviously I have tried most of the desserts and they are awesome. The big chocolate cake is a classic and slays everytime. The coconut cake is very good as well and comes with this huge coconut crispy thing which is yummy. The service is always so attentive and very friendly. This place will always be my #1.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely top-shelf experience all around! My wife and I
Absolutely top-shelf experience all around! My wife and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary here a few weekends ago. When I checked in, I let the GM Charlie Gitto know we were there, waiting for friends, and celebrating.Even if I hadn't mentioned this, I'm sure the service would have been outstanding because my wife and I have been there a half dozen or so times previously. But, nowadays, when there seems to be a steep drop in customer service just about anywhere you go, Smith & Wollensky's did NOT disappoint!Charlie not only made sure we had a great table with a river view, but he also bought us a round of drinks! A gesture like this is almost unheard of unless you've had some hiccup at a restaurant. The food was fabulous and the service was sensational. We could even notice the great service around us at all the tables. This place has a great vibe, ton of energy, great food, and wonderful customer service. You can get so lost in places like this where there are lots of patrons trying to enjoy their dinner, but Smith & Wollenskys really knows how to take care of you.If you're looking for a steakhouse in Chicago with a great vibe or simply a restaurant with great food and great service, this is a must!

I have been to this location and few times, and I finally wanted to a review. We went for my birthday and it was great. Waiter and staff were attentive & very knowledgeable. Food was fantastic and drink selections are great. I had dry aged ribeye Cajun style. Supper tasty and I should not have asked for Bernaise Sauce - didn't need it. I got my favorite side dish of hash browns. My wife had a cocoa and coffee rubbed steak with spinach.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious! We had Angry Shrimp as an appetizer.
The shrimp sits on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes. Delicious red pepper spices - not too hot but has a kick. We shared the surf and turf. Perfect medium rare filet mignon. Melted in my mouth. Lobster tails were done perfectly. Side of creamed spinach was SO good! Whipped potatoes were almost like dessert - so creamy and delicious. Beautiful views on the river. Excellent service from Igor! Worth the money. You get what you pay for!
