The Waldorf Astoria Hotel Bar was a mixed bag for my wife and me. To begin with, we had a late change to our plans and decided maybe the bar would be a good option for an lighter meal in early evening. Sadly, there were no reservations available on their website in the week leading up to our visit. It was a Saturday evening, though, so that wasn't too surprising. Still, Waldorf concierge reached out ahead of our visit asking if we needed anything, so I decided to ask the concierge if there was anything they could do to help. Their answer: "No, sorry." Again - not terribly surprising. Then we arrived at the hotel on Saturday to check in. I strolled over to the bar to check out the nice (not amazing) view of the Strip. I asked the woman at the front whether there was any chance of getting a table around 7 p.m. that night. Her answer: "You'll have to ask the manager when they arrive, but it shouldn't be a problem." Huh. After roaming a little, my wife and I returned to our room about 5 and I went back to the bar to see if there was any chance or if I'd missed it. Their answer: "Yes, no problem at all! Two people for 7 p.m.? What's the name for the reservation?" When we arrived, we were given top-tier seats right at the window. No problem at all. I got a mixed drink - very tasty. Wife ordered a glass of wine, and waitress returned to explain that wine was not available, but maybe this one? I got the same mixed drink. Wife got the same wine ... but now was told that the replacement wine was *also* no longer available, so maybe this other other one? We also got wagyu tataki and tuna tartare. Tuna was VERY good. Tataki was under a little glass with smoke for presentation - that left the beef with an extremely overwhelming smoky flavor, drowning out most everything else. The lesson: Food is hit or miss. Drinks are good, but not always available. Service was kind, polite and helpful. And if you can't get a reservation, just show up anyway.
