Sichuan Impression Alhambra Reviews from The Last Year
Great food; fast service.
All the Sichuan favorites and more. There is a reason for the wait at busy times -- it's worth it when you finally sit down. But when there isn't a wait it's an amazingly fast experience. Newly renovated location is lovely and has private rooms.
This place is soooo good and dangerously addicting.
I've been here many times and my favorite dishes are the boiled beef in chili sauce, smoked pig ear, spicy frog dry pot, boiled fish with rattan peppers, stir fried chili chicken. The chili sauce in the boiled beef is to die for and goes well with rice. The smoked pig ear has a fun chewy, yet slightly crunchy texture and has the perfect smokey flavor. The spicy frog and boiled fish are my absolute favorites. Trust me, I never thought I'd eat frog, but it's my go-to dish whenever I come here.
Incredibly delicious food! Friendly service.
Free parking!! We always bring friends who haven't been there - love the Spivey front leg dish!
I've had Sichuan Impression a few times now, when I want to
I've had Sichuan Impression a few times now, when I want to bring an out-of-town friend to a local spot that really represents SGV cooking at it's best. Each time, Sichuan Impression has knocked it out of the park when it comes to its consistency and flavor, and I finally believe it's time I write a review to praise it. Sichuan Impression is a relatively small restaurant, but it's tastefully decorated, modern and clean. Service has always been great and I actually appreciate the ability to order through the Toast online app rather than having to do it the traditional way. They also provide a lot of visual representation, as it can be difficult to know what you're ordering based on the name/description. Parking is in the back of the restaurant, and it has never been too much of a challenge to find a spot. I've ordered a few dishes consistently over the past few visits, including the Kung Pao Chicken and the Mapo Tofu. The mapo tofu has a nice spice to it with the Sichuan peppercorns really providing the numbing sensation that is iconic to this style of food. The Kung Pao chicken is just an amazing dish, with juicy chicken, crunchy peanuts, all whipped together in a sweet, delicious sauce. I can't rave enough about how good their Kung Pao chicken is. I've also ordered a few other items, including the street fries, the lamb skewers, impressive cold noodles, and the boiled fish. Each of these items provides a different spice, flavor profile, and texture that is wonderful in its own right. The boiled fish definitely builds in terms of numbing-ness, and it gets to a point where your tongue feels as if it's on trip. I can't speak highly enough about Sichuan Impression, and I consider myself lucky to live so close to it. I will keep on using it as a great representation of the high level of Chinese cuisine in the SGV,
tl;dr the ambiance and sheer quality of this Sichuan
tl;dr the ambiance and sheer quality of this Sichuan stalwart are arguably the best around LA -- expect prices to match Sichuan cuisine is never more than a stone's throw away in Alhambra. But two heavyweights have dominated the scene: Chengdu Taste and Sichuan Impression. Both of these Sichuan stalwarts boast consistently long queues, accolades galore, and even BIb Gourmand recognition from the Michelin Guide. Sichuan Impression's Main St shop is more sleek and modern than its Valley Blvd counterpart. The cool-toned wood and stone finishes feel sophisticated and clean. Apart from a bright red paper dragon running along the service area in the back, the walls and ceiling are minimally adorned. Accent lighting is directed toward the tables, while the dropdown lighting fixtures feel ornamental. To the left, heathered upholstered booths are pressed against walnut wooden tables. Directly ahead past the carved-stone divider, upscale picnic benches can accommodate larger parties. Instrumental music plays softly, only audible once the crowd slows close to closing time. Even on weekday nights, expect a full house. I've arrived twice toward closing time on a weekday, and have been able to secure a table for both visits immediately. Staff members quickly brought out water cups, and consistently refilled them throughout the meal. We ordered through the QR code menu, and dishes arrived at a dizzying pace, in the order that they were prepared. The Mini Lamb Skewers were more tender and flavorful than Chengdu's signature Toothpick Lamb with Cumin, while the Boiled Fish With Rattan Pepper featured a more generous portion and higher quality components than the Chengdu version. The Cinderella's Pumpkin Rides (toasty pumpkin cakes sprinkled modestly with sesame seeds and filled with red bean paste) were a sleeper hit: the dense yet springy texture and comforting flavor instilled a mix of satisfaction and comfort. The signature Tea Smoked Pork Ribs were served on a branded charcuterie board with a sprinkle of scallions, chopped peanuts, and dried peppercorns. The meat didn't easily fall off the bone, and the single, small rack was our priciest dish of the night; nonetheless, the unique, smokey flavor was a hit among our group. The Home-Style Fried Rice, garlic stir-fried A-Choy, and garlic stir-fried Mustard Leaf were all standard. The only dud's were the mushy, one-dimensional Grandma's Pickled Cucumber, and skimpily dressed, awkwardly two-biter Wonton in Chili Oil. My bill has always worked out to $40 per person (after tax and tip), a slight premium over Chengdu Taste with an accompanying step up in quality. I remain a Chengdu believer, but Sichuan Impression will continue as a regular player in my mala rotation.
I absolutely love this restaurant; the food is amazing,
I absolutely love this restaurant; the food is amazing, especially the sea bass and the spicy intestine! During our visit, the sea bass was on sale, so we decided to try it, and it turned out to be incredibly delicious. Normally, I'm not a fan of intestine, but here they make it super crispy without the usual gamey taste, making it delicious with steamed rice. The service is primarily self-service for ordering via phone, but the servers do fill water and assist when needed. The restaurant looks very modern and clean, and the parking lot is spacious with ample parking every time I visit.
Food 5/5: mapatofu on point; fried rice on point; duck was
Food 5/5: mapatofu on point; fried rice on point; duck was cold so wasn't my fav; rice cake with brown sugar was 100/100, haven't had this since China; and lamb skewer was also very tasty. Seasonings and flavors were both on point! Service 5/5: very friendly Ambiance 4/5: good for fam or friend hangs I highly recommend if you want good authentic Chinese food!
Food service and ambience was phenomenal.
Everything was so flavorful. I can't wait to go try other options.

I am blessed to live in SoCal which has a rich culinary landscape. I can easily drive to Sichuan Impression whenever the mood strikes me so that I can consume that delicious spicy, numbing Sichuan pepper flavor (and this is someone that does not like spicy food. Then again, I would place Sichuan pepper under the same category as hot Cheetos in terms of how harmless it is heat/spicy-wise). This is what we ordered: #1. "Qiao-jiao" Beef Combination Soup of Leshan [$22.99] Beef Slices, Beef Tripe, Beef Tendon, Radish, and Cilantro. On a separate small plate, you will get condiments that you can add to your soup: Dry Chili Powder, Capsicum, Cilantro, and Scallions. See photo attached. #2. Stir-Fried Chili Chicken [$18.99] Selection of Bone-in or Boneless Chicken, Celery, Fresh Bell Peppers, Dried Chilies #3. Spicy, dry fried green beans [$14.99] #4. Steamed Rice [$1.50] The food quality was excellent and the price for what you get was fair. I would 100% come back. Miscellaneous: (1) Free parking in the back (2) I did not like that we had to order everything on our phone (3) The bathroom and restaurant overall was clean (4) They're closed from 2:45PM to 5PM every day so plan accordingly.
The food is good.
But they pull something shady when it's time to pay- they pick their own tip% with their toast mobile payment machine. How much I tip should be my choice , not theirs, and of course they default it to 20%+. Beware.
Great food (COLD NOODLES!!!) Great Service (Speak Chinese)

My parents thought the pepper eggplant was too spicy, but
My parents thought the pepper eggplant was too spicy, but delicious. I called and asked if they could make it without spice. They were very helpful, suggested no sauce, but wouldn't recommend it. I appreciate the honesty.
Very good food!! I was in the area and wanted some good
Very good food!! I was in the area and wanted some good food and Sichuan Impression was recommend to me. I would definitely go during non-peak time because it is a small restaurant and it gets very busy. Alternatively, I believe you can also check in via the Yelp app. There are also some other places around that you can wait for your table. There is parking lot, but plenty of street parking, so that was an added bonus. I tried a few items: 1. Eggplant - I misread and did not realize that it was a cold appetizer. Very good flavor, but I wished it was hot. 2. Fish in picked veggies - My favorite of the night. The fish was so tender, the mala was spicy. It was perfect 3. String beans - Very good flavor and perfectly cooked 4. Pork ribs - Also super good, the meat was falling off the bone. The food was sooo good! I am definitely coming back here to try other dishes. The service was also great. The waiter came by and refilled our water and I never felt pressured to leave even thought it was pretty packed when I was leaving. Will definitely need to come back.
The food is very delicious and the waiter Wesley's service

Since my original review, I've ordered delivery at least
Since my original review, I've ordered delivery at least another dozen or so times. The improvement and efforts are to be commended. If I place two orders of kung pao chicken, I no longer have to worry that I get half the flavor. I hope this trend continues. When I place multiple orders of to-go rice, they no longer jam multiple orders in one container, they keep the container to two orders maximum. They also don't fill it up all the way to prevent excess moisture. Unfortunately, the rice is still clumpy and mushy. I think the travel distance is just too far. If you are in a position to desire delivery instead of driving to pick up, it's probably already too far to expect the rice to survive the trip without becoming mushy. My solution was just to purchase a rice cooker. I got a Zojirushi NW-QAC10 and used Tamanishiki rice. The rice paired perfectly with the kung pao chicken and boiled fish filet with chili sauce. The rice cooker turned out to be a game changer as I discovered I avoided many Asian restaurants due to their inconsistent rice--President Thai is another example. I can now confidently give all of these places another shot as well. Without having to worry about mushy rice, I can happily revise the score here to 5/5.
Beautifully arranged with that good ambient lighting.
Diverse customers, family friendly. Order from the QR code menu. Staff attentive and regularly observing to help customers. Food came out at warp speed. Steamed ribs with rice flour was interesting, felt like a stew base with tender small ribs surrounded by the gravy and some pieces of orange potato. Kung pao had great flavor, a nice sticky sauce. Tons of chili pieces but not a lot of heat unless you request otherwise. Braised string beans standard as expected. Chili fish was great but on the salty side. Normally intended to eat with rice but we didn't order any. You can order spicier if you prefer. The standard level of spice was more moderate here. Restaurant has a clean modern elegant appeal. Food is beautifully plated and tasty.

The food is special and yummy! It is the first time I tried the sliced kidney with pepper and chili, not super spicy but just the right spicy. Very special taste. I did enjoy it. The staff are warm and respectful.
All the dishes we ordered were delightful! The Fish in
All the dishes we ordered were delightful! The Fish in Rattan Pepper provided a mild numbing sensation without being spicy, and the fish itself was tender and impeccably cooked. The Mapo Tofu was a timeless favorite. Although the Twice Cooked Pork had excellent flavor, the slices of pork were slightly overcooked. The String Beans were a tried-and-true classic. The Bean Jelly noodle had the perfect texture. The Shrimp with scrambled eggs was expertly prepared and had a delightful taste. However, the most disappointing dish was the Impressive Spicy Chicken, as it consisted mostly of bones and didn't justify its price or the effort required to eat it. Nevertheless, the sauce accompanying it was exceptionally flavorful--I even drizzled it over my fish! The service was excellent, came around and checked on us just the right amount of times. They packed in impressive decor into this modest space. There's probably less than 20 tables and there was a slight wait at 2pm on a rainy Saturday but dishes come out quickly so you shouldn't be waiting for a table for too long.
Food quality-wise, i can tell how this reataurant has been
Food quality-wise, i can tell how this reataurant has been surviving for really a long time. Since my little sons cannot eat spicy food, I tried to find non-spicy food and ordered. Lamb skew: i am picky with lamb and this dish was really good. No strong smell, not too chewy, properly seasoned. Kungpao chicken: not spicy version i think. Sauce flavor is just properly sweet, chicken is tender, nuts are also properly cooked. Radish and beef soup: this would be very healthy. Ox tail might be cooked inside for a long time(asian way) and i can taste the deep flavor. Potato slice dish(forgot the name): although it was not my sons' favorite, i think it is tasty enough. Nothing really special to describe. Price: 4 dishes total 91$ including 18% tips. INCLUDING TIPS........ can you not show me a screen with minimum 18% tip while it is a takeout order....? Customized 0 tip right in front of staff when they are looking at me is really tricky.

I've earned $150 in a transaction and am not able to send this to my account. It's been rejected 3 times because I'm asking for too much?
The customer support function has provided zero responses and there are so many fees on the deposit process. What the heck? Has anyone been able to withdraw $ from earned bids?

You can only deposit $50 at a time until you earn the “Sales and Low Refund Medal” I believe. Im new to this as well but the ability to deposit more money at once and increase your amount of listings comes with that medal.

Someone else posted that they were only able to transfer $50 at a time so maybe that’s why it says you’re asking for too much. I haven’t sold anything yet so I have no personal experience but I would try $50.
