Delicious sushi & wonderful Omakase
We had the pleasure of dining here from Luka say with our two adult sons, and their girlfriends. We had a private room, and the service was outstanding else was the food. The sake sommelier was very helpful with recommendations. Weโve done Omakase and a number of other cities including Tokyo and this was right up there. Highly recommend and reservations are necessary.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent value omakase
Difficult to find an omakase in NYC that offers such value for the quality ingredients they have in offer. At 200 plus USD it sounds like a lot but when you actually try it and realise the amount of food and the quality it starts to look positively like a bargain. Very very good experience
Be the first to ReplyIncredible sushi experience
We came here with a group of friends, and it was a fantastic sushi experience. The waiter was incredibly helpful in providing recommendations. The experience was incredibly intimate. It was one of the best sushi experiences I have ever had.

Shuko is an experience and not a cheap one. If youโre going to eat here do not sit at a table be sure to sit at the sushi bar and take it all in. Excellent omakase. Very small venue with a great vibe.
Be the first to ReplyLeft Hungry Omakase!
Sorry but unremarkable after a $500 dinner for two! The sushi quality was good but the flavor of the regular sushi in the Omakase tasting was lacking!
I think they have the creative dishes down there were a few but the rest was good but unremarkable!! Proceed with a devil may care pocketbook- for a slightly above average sushi or Omakase dinner.
Was Disappointed and Left HUNGRY!!
Service horrible
I love sushi and especially love Omakase. I have been to Nakazawa, Sushi Zo, Yasuda, Masa, Mitzu, Noz, etc. so I have definitely had a good range of experiences to compare. When you are paying these prices (+/- $300 per person) one would expect impeccable service. I went to Shuko a few weeks back with work colleagues and the service was extremely rushed - ~1 hour start to finish for the $190 omakase, we could hardly take a minute to relax before the next course came to the table. In general, the service was not at the caliber you would expect for this price point. When we expressed our disappointment that everything felt rushed, the manager who was on site never bothered to come by.
While the food was good, the full experience was disappointing. Depending on what you are looking for and assuming you are targeting a similar price point as Shuko, I would strongly recommend any of the above before coming here.
Disappointing Service
Went there recently for a special occasion. Waited 30 minutes at an empty table and our drinks still hadn't come out. When we asked the server about our drinks she defensively responded, "I'm not the one making your drinks." A little while later we still hadn't received service and finally left. Very disappointing because we had been looking forward to eating here for quite some time.
Be the first to ReplyAn omakase place to return
An omakase place to return for. This is one of my favorites in Manhattan. I have been there first when they opened in early 2015 with some scotch friends and came back a few times since. With friends, my girl or alone, I always had great service and food.
Be the first to ReplyStill the best
Still one to the best sushi places in town, an absolute go to for an omakase style of the meal - fresh fish, perfectly cut, prepared and served, with both traditional sushi and quite few imaginative ones. All is served in a nice, calm setting with an impressive sake & wine list. Not cheap (350usd per head, with service but no alcohol) but absolutely worth it

My daughter had booked a table well in advance and we were happy to get a 9:30pm slot in this rather small restaurant.
There is no name on the outside, so you have to remember the Number of the street.
Three of us had the Omakase dinner with wine and sake pairing.
It is not cheap @ 180 per person plus another 100 for the pairing, but worth every penny of it!
The plates came mainly with three different sushi pieces and directions were given whether to start from the left or the right.
There was only one wine: a German Eva Fricke Sparkling Pinot Noir Rose and the rest were sakes: Nanbu Bijun Daigingo, Junmai Ginjo Sai, Yamakai Tokubetsu Junmai Muroka Genshu. Dassai 50 and Junmai - not necessarily in that order. All were perfectly chosen for the dishes we had. I also had an additional piece of Caviar Uni Toro which was mouth watering.
Most enjoyable and very tasty and no surprise that they managed to get three Michelin Stars.
The restaurant was opened in 2005.
The menu changes daily.
The service very friendly.
Best Omakase Ever
I had some amazing Toro at Brushstroke when it was still opened, at Nakazawa, at the original Sushi of Gari, and at Masa among the best Toro I ever had but none as good as here. Will have to come again just to try it again.
The ambiance is more contemporary than traditional and itโs very comfortable for me since the seats are comfy, there is a nice foot rest, and the lighting is nicely dimmed.
The service is what you would expect at a high-end Omakase which I donโt really like having ppl serve from behind since youโre sitting at a bar but what can you do about it? Overall, service is good but not as attentive as I would like for such a high-end establishment. Some servers really need to be more attentive of their customers and attend to their needs instead of ignoring them.
I am normally still hungry after an Omakase but here, Iโm too full. They serve a lot of sushi alone and if you get the more expensive menu, itโs plenty enough. I might even just go for just sushi next time since they are the stars of the dinner. You wonโt miss too much going for the cheaper menu.
I did not like their more expensive drink pairing as there are too many wines. I prefer only sake. If you skip the drink pairing, itโs actually pretty affordable and a good deal compared to say Masa which while good is really too expensive and not worth the value.
Mouthwatering food, fantastic sake, great staff
I wish I could attach all the photos of every nigiri we got during this omakase. This place is fantastic, small and intimate setting. The sashimi comes fresh from Tsujiki market in Tokyo, something like 19 hours from being caught in the ocean to being auctioned off at the market the. flying over to New York. For the three of us Canadians the bill came to $955 USD, if I remember correctly, this converted to around $1300 CAD on my credit card. Worth the experience.
We were the last ones left in the restaurant and the staff invited us out to a local bar close by for even more eating and drinking!
Highly recommend!
Great fish, needs better presentation
We came on a Saturday night for kaiseki for 3 and were fairly impressed with the offerings and the overall meal. The door to the restaurant isn't easy to spot, we missed it at first glance - very subtle, and the interior is quaint. We had reserved a table off the bar for the night but the entire restaurant tables and chef's table/bar were full the entire night.
We chose the kaiseki offering and also ordered the 'drop the mic' and the 'wagyu beef hand roll' off the ad hoc menu. One at our table ordered the pairing with the meal as well.
Overall the food was delicious and fish super fresh. We were certainly full by the end of the meal. A few notes to point out:
- Sushi offerings that came plated could have been better presented. Some plates nigiri was falling over onto others, some plates not in a neat straight row. It just takes away from the overall presentation when it isn't visually pleasing
- All of the fish was amazing except the uni. Surprising, but we've had way better uni in many other places. Not sure what it was, but the uni was just not good
- Dessert - wish we had been offered an alternative. I would have been happy with just 2 scoops of the delicious soba ice cream, as I absolutely hate apple pie
Overall the meal was a success - we spent almost 3 hours in the restaurant!
