Shore Leave Boston Reviews from The Last Year
I came here during Christmas and loved it.
Their decorations were fun to see and the ambiance was great. This time I came back with my son to celebrate my birthday and again very impressed with their decor of course no more Christmas theme in April. We tried their Omakaze menu at the sushi bar and loved it! Our sushi chef was very nice and skillful with his sushi making. The waitstaff are professional and on their feet for good service. We left there very full and happy. Definitely will come back again soon
For a Sunday dinner I decided to try out Shore Leave.
The Japanese fried chicken sandwich proved a standout. The fried chicken, in Japanese style, possessed a light breading that provides just a bit of texture contrast while minimizing flavor impact, deferring to the juicy chicken itself to fill the palate. The portion size seemed just a touch small. I also ordered the okonomiyaki tater tots, a playful rendition of okonomiyaki (a Japanese savory pancake) flavors onto a more familiar dish. The combination of furikake (a seasoning made with nori and dried fish) and a sweet, savory, and tangy sauce made this irresistible. The meal alone would constitute 4*. However, the lead bartender, Simon, made the meal noteworthy. I noticed a cocktail incorporating both Japanese whiskey and shochu (a Japanese distilled spirit) and started talking about how he picked the shochu to stock, the grain involved, the koji used, etc. He let me sample the shochu directly and we started talking about how different shochu flavors could make for interesting drinks. That sort of experience of being able to talk to a bartender and brainstorm ideas over shared knowledge seems uncommon.

Great ambience and some of the best sushi I have enjoyed in Boston. Additionally the staff were incredibly kind. I lost my glasses in a borderline cartoonish fashion, and their kindness really helped ease the blow. 10/10 would leave shore again

It's a cute hidden place that you walk down into a apartment like stairway and you enter into a beautiful decorative bar/restaurant. The food is interesting, it's not your typical sushi restaurant per se, so you're met with flavors that are not typical but original to their theme. For example, I got a shiitake tempura roll and shore leave roll which were okay. The tater tots were good for some time, but then it gets soggy and the sauce after a while. Otherwise I would come here for more of the atmosphere and grabbing drinks.

One of my favorite places to eat in boston- unbeatable nigiri and amazing drinks. The seafood here is comparable to the LA sushi scene. People usually lie about boston having good food (sorry im a snob) but this place is genuinely top tier!

3.5. Was here before Covid and they were just getting their legs but the vibe worked and the curated music absolutely nailed it. Now on my second visit back the music was all over the place and while I had a great drink experience the bartender looked like he was going to fall over from exhaustion and couldn't speak up loud enough for me to hear him. The guests were having fun but not too bad for a basement Tiki joint. Brussel Sprouts were spot on. Really just hoped the music could have complimented the vibe there and along with a more lively bartender. Mai Tai was spot on and I enjoyed the Shore Leave cocktail with passion fruit and tiki bitters.
The place is beautiful and the music is great.
The staff was very friendly and we got a fun flaming drunk in a fun mug. The food was good as well, I just wish there were a few more options :)
Everything about this place was great! Besides the fact
Everything about this place was great! Besides the fact that we needed to wait for a table (with a reservation) for about 10 minutes everything was amazing. Ambiance, food, and drinks were all Top notch. Food came out quickly and was very yummy. They even had karaoke and that was great way to end off the night. Highly recommend!
Omakase 10/10
The omakase was incredible. And for omakase it’s not that expensive. The drinks were also very good. Service was great as well. Absolutely worth and will definitely go back.
Shore Leave in Boston is a vibrant restaurant offering
Shore Leave in Boston is a vibrant restaurant offering Asian-inspired dishes and an array of tiki cocktails, all served in a fun and lively atmosphere. The friendly and attentive staff add to the welcoming environment, though the cozy size of the restaurant means you might find yourself in close quarters with other diners. However, the inclusive vibe, particularly their support for the LGBTQ+ community, creates a warm and inviting ambiance which is great. We started with the Dan Dan Noodles, which though not quite traditional, offered a peanut-infused twist. Might have called this dish Peanut Noodles or something though. The Tuna Tartare was not bad, but it was the Okonomiyaki Tater Tots that was incredible! The Karaage Chicken Sandwich was delicious and shareable if you ask! For dinner I opted for the Shore Leave Roll, a combination of shrimp tempura, hamachi, pickled pineapple, serrano, cilantro, and aji amarillo. While the sushi was good quality, it is slightly on the higher end at $20 a roll. The Eggplant Dragon Roll was very creative and tasty. Only thing is we would have liked more sushi options to choose from for the menu. As for the cocktails, they're as colorful as they are creative, with themed options changing with the seasons and holidays. We enjoyed the experience and look forward to returning to sample more of what Shore Leave has to offer! Thanks for a wonderful evening!

3.5 stars! Nice basement floor restaurant, a little hidden and hard to find the entrance but it was a cute place! lighting is a little dark inside but the service was very friendly. We enjoyed the food here, especially the sushi and the sandwich! Dan Dan noodles are served cold which might throw some people off but they were good, nothing over the top. I have a shell fish allergy so there wasn't a huge selection of foods here for me but I would come back for bar snack bites and to try their cocktails!
Omakase = Amazing
Never heard of Omakase? Neither had I. Hidden away below street level, I have just had the best sushi of my life. Twelve rounds of delicious sashimi, nigiri, some tempura and all finished off with a miso soup. Chef Vincent was a stellar host and the mixologists on the Bar are masters of their art; the whole atmosphere at Shore Leave is not to be missed if visiting Boston. The “White Lotus” wallpaper is also good fun.
