Excellent Japanese food right in Brookline
Excellent Japanese food. They do sushi but they are really known of the small side dishes you can order in addition to the sushi. Really really expertly made and always reliable. So good here. They do takeout too but I find it is better to eat in the restaurant to take in the ambiance.

We have been here many times so itโs time I make my review! Yes, Shiki came highly recommended from my Japanese friends.. This is now our go-to when we want Japanese food! It's only a 25 min walk from home, food is consistently good and Fred is always there to welcome us. Go hungry and enjoy the Matsu! Itโs a small restaurant so donโt without a reservation on a Fri night..
Be the first to ReplyVery good food, average service
Good authentic Japanese restaurant: We had some sushi/sashimi as well as some cooked dishes all of which were very good (not perfect though); great sake selection; interior was ok but the AC was turned up too high for our taste; service was a bit impersonal and not very efficient; prices were adequate for the quality that was offered.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Coolidge Corner Alternative
There are lots of sushi options in Coolidge Corner. This one has better food and service than most. It's worth seeking out if you don't mind the nondescript basement location.

When you go down a mysterious set of stairs you discover a small and lovely place packed with Japanese businessmen - if it is good for them, it is good for me.

Great Japanese cuisine. The Oysters (Kagi Fry) and Avocado Crab and Cucumber Salad and Shrimp Tempura and the soft shell crab and stuffed eel were all delicious. The service was a tad frenetic as it was a busy Sunday evening.
Be the first to ReplyTake away- so bad!!!
I ordered to go- 2 maki salmon and one shrimp tempura maki . The reservation went well but the food itself was sloppy, no attention to details or taste. It was like taking out from a fast food place, and even then my experience is usually better. So disappointing!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyGood but not a good value
Shiki is good, all the dishes are great, they have more authentic Japanese dishes that you won't find at most sushi places around the city.
The downside is that it is comically overpriced for the size of the dishes. They will tell you it is "tapas style," which is fine, but it is totally overboard with the small dish size relative to the cost.
Authentic Japanese
Came here for dinner based on a recommendation from a foodie friend, and boy was it good! As well as the standard sushi options available in other Japanese restaurants nearby, this place also uniquely has authentic, home-style dishes that you mix and match to make up a full meal. We ordered some takoyaki, rice, some grilled fish, and a seasonal winter vegetable stew. It was all delicious, and we were perfectly content! A hidden gem.
