Savoy Palace Funchal Reviews from The Last Year
Sheer luxury
Absolutely superb nd a stunning design. Spacious and well furnished rooms of very high quality. Bed was huge and so comfortable. The bathroom area is really a spa area with a freestanding bath. The grounds too are beautiful with a wide range of exotic flowers.
Unwelcoming and souless
Staying at the Savoy Palace was meant to be a final night treat after a week spent in Madeira. We were looking forward to it but have to say we were disappointed. The hotel room itself was lovely, but the lobby and seating areas whilst looking splendid were actually uncomfortable and impersonal. Quite a tricky hotel to navigate and work out what you could do, where and when. We learnt things simply by reading other reviews... Things that others only discovered by accident themselves. We checked out of our room at 12 but had 5 hours until we needed to leave for the airport. There was nowhere that you could actually sit, relax and be comfortable and stay cool. Our major disappointment though was how unwelcome we felt and how unfriendly the staff were. Lobby and reception staff were simply not friendly. No smiles or pleasant greetings. No invitation to help yourself to water on arrival. For 5 star and the price charged, your care towards us was extremely poor. Falls short on many counts re their 5 star rating. Pool attendant most unhelpful regarding keys and lockers. With the exception of the door man, one breakfast assistant lady and the man serving the special coffee at breakfast, the rest of the staff were really unfriendly. We would not return as we like to feel welcome and like valued customers. There are other hotels which reasonably priced where you will feel much more welcome.
Amazing hotel, beautiful place and incredible service!
Beautiful hotel with incredible staff who are more than happy to bend over backwards to help you. The only issues I could think is that everything costs you extra, and they are missing out on a few small touches which we have had at other 5* hotels.. such as - walking around the pool and offering free water would be nice, I’m paying for all of my other drinks. - I’m already paying £x000s, and I rent a car.. it should cost €50 euros for 5 days of parking it in the underground garage - evening entertainment was a bit lacking, would have been nice to have a bit more in the evening (which is why we went to the Savoy Next rooftop and joined the pool parties there) All in all, would definitely recommend 🙏
Amazing
Beautiful place beautiful staff beautiful weather the hotel is perfect for a family vacation they think of every little detail they have connected rooms it was perfect for our family of four and the pool area is huge but I wish they clean it more everything else was perfect.
Great Holiday- fabulous hotel
Had fabulous time at the Savoy Palace. Booked a garden room which overlooked the pool and was v close to several of the restaurants and bars within the hotel. We didn't have a sea view but didn't mind this at all. All staff were amazing- too many to mention but Emmanuel at the pool stands out. However it feels unfair just to highlight one person Standard of cleanliness was outstanding. I plan to return in the near future.
What a Fabulous Hotel!
Another lovely stay at this beautiful hotel. We returned after only six months as it offered so much. It’s in a great location, good food, excellent staff and beautiful rooms. Our only disappointment was over an e-mail conversation with Guest Relations prior to our second stay. In this we requested a Superior Seaview Room away from Vimes Bar as during our previous stay we found the evening music somewhat loud and intrusive. When we arrived at check-in, despite confirmation of our room location request, we were once again allocated a room directly above Vimes Bar!!! You can imagine our disappointment. However, to the credit of the Front Desk staff, the matter was resolved efficiently, and we were given an alternative room at the opposite end of the hotel, despite the hotel being very full. We were grateful for the resolution; however, this was totally unnecessary after the specific e-mail request. Despite the minor administrative hic-up we very much look forward to a third stay in the near future
5 Star experience
Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for one week in July. This hotel was truly exceptional. Excellent facilities, wonderful staff and a very convenient location. Highly recommend including breakfast as the food is excellent and varied. Can't imagine staying anywhere else if I was to return to Madeira.
The optimum in excellence, service, and friendliness.
Five-star excellence with friendly warmth. Reaching this truly luxurious hotel, we were greeted with friendly warmth, our luggage was carried by hotel staff. On arrival, we were graciously upgraded to a sea-view room. The staff were helpful, friendly, and very accommodating. The room was spacious, and the man who brought our luggage to the room, was so helpful; he wouldn't let us lift a single bag, and he showed where everything was, and how to work the lights and climate control. The bed was king size, and you needed a megaphone just to talk to each other. It was also so comfortable. The bathroom was marble-tiled with gold fitments, and very clean with a capacious walk-in shower. The shower was brilliant: lots of volume and power. Splendid. House-keeping did a wonderful job in keeping the room and bed clean, and the towels were changed every day. The five restaurants in the hotel were great in cuisine, friendliness, and service. Breakfast was brilliant and a true banquet with a huge variety of foods, fruit, seeds, pastry, and nuts etc. You were never rushed; it was a leisurely breakfast. All the other luxuries were at hand: outdoor and in-door pools, sauna, gym, and so much more. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to all who savour friendly service and exemplary standards in hygiene, luxury, and helpfulness. We will certainly be back. Thank you to all at the Savoy Palace; you made our stay an uplifting and an unforgettable one.
A lovely experience
We recently spent two weeks in a 4th floor studio room at the Savoy Palace and overall, it was a lovely experience. It was our second visit. The location of the hotel is stunning, with breathtaking views and easy access to walk into Funchal, which takes approximately 20 minutes. There is a hill on the way back, but it certainly improves your fitness with practise! Of course you can get a taxi and we used the BOLT app, which is more economical than the taxi service. The hotel itself is huge and very clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. One of the highlights was the daily maid service, which ensured our room was always spotless and well-maintained. This attention to detail made our stay very comfortable. We also enjoyed the live music most evenings in the bar. However, there were a couple of drawbacks. We were disappointed to find that there still was an additional high fee to use the four-poster sunbeds by the pool, which seemed unnecessary given that they were 95% empty during our entire stay. Perhaps a lower fee of 20 euros including soft drinks/hot drinks for the day for 2 adults, would be more attractive. Additionally, we had to request cold drinking water to be available on the 16th-floor sundeck, as there wasn't any for the first few days, which was a bit inconvenient. The Spa is an additional fee of 40 euros per day, unless you book an hour spa treatment, which is a shame as you are already a paid guest and in our opinion should be part of the package and treatments discounted for members of Savoy Palace. Despite these minor issues, we had a wonderful time and will return next year in September as we discovered the weather in June this year was mostly overcast.
Must stay in Madeira! Do not hesitate to book! 5 star experience
Our stay at the savoy palace was amazing. The service is 5* no request made was too big or too much for the team. The team went out of their way to plan an amazing birthday dinner for my husband with a fantastic bespoke menu and the most amazing drinks. We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back. Thank you to the amazing guest services team WhatsApp special thanks to Lara, Filipa, Gonçalo, Rita, Graca, Joao, Oriana and Jizela. Thank you all so much we will definitely be back.
Savoy Palace experience
The Savoy Palace has a lot to offer if you like formality and quality, maybe feels more like a high end business hotel than a relaxed holiday destination but that’s maybe e reflection on us rather than the hotel. We noticed guests having a tour of the complex but unfortunately we were not offered this experience, yes we could of asked, I advise anyone to get a tour so you are more aware of the complex and what it has to offer from the start. The hotel is in a fantastic location near to the city of Funchal and does have sea/lido access through the Savoy Palace hotel lower down the hill, a private bridge and walkway gets you to the hotel. Dining in the hotel is very high class but we chose to dine out at different restaurants off site each night, The standard of the rooms is excellent and the house keeping staff are friendly and very professional.
Perfect short stay
This was our second time staying here and it is just as spectacular as always. We were there to have menu tasting as we will be getting married there in September. When we stayed the first time, my fiancé said that she dreamed of getting married here so we made that a reality. We were in constant contact with Jolene who set up an amazing menu tasting for us at Pau De Lume where the food and service were absolutely exceptional. The restaurant manager who's name if I remember rightly was David was so accommodating and really helped us navigate through our choices. We visited the Galaxia bar as well on our tour with Jolene and the bar manager who I believe was called Daniel, put all our worries to ease with regards to wedding day set up etc. Big thank you to Jolene especially for everything she set up for us over our very short stay. I apologise if I did get any names wrong but everyone was amazing and it was great to see a fellow Les Clefs d'Or member welcoming us on arrival. See you in September.
Excellent First time experience of Madeira
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Savoy Palace. We found all staff very pleasant and friendly. We arrived on June 12 at around 20.30. We we greeted by friendly doorstsaff. Check in was extremely easy and we were in our room by 20.30. We stated in a sea view room on the 4th floor. The room was a good size and was exceptionally comfortable and clean. We were staying on a bed and breakfast tariff which suited us as we tend to go out most days and eat at local restaurants in the evening. We found the buffet breakfast to be very well varied and plenty full. Service was generally very good. The public areas were very clean. Sunbeds were plentiful, towels are provided. The main pool was a little cool but okay after swimming a length or two. The indoor pool is a little small but was nice to visit early evening with few people in it. The Skybar pool is small and is heated. Timing is the key to visiting this pool as it can get crowded. The views however are amazing. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
Luxurious
We stayed in a studio apartment on 1st floor as part of the vacation club. Really attentive, friendly staff. Rooftop bar and pool was amazing. Lovely apartment. Bed really comfortable with choice of pillows. Looking forward to going again.
Winter break
Had a lovely stay at this hotel will definitely return especially the Terreiro restaurant where Maria did above and beyond to make our stay very special with many thanks. The hotel was clean and friendly. However our room overlooked the air conditioners and was noisy so we would try and stay the other side of the hotel next time
Lovely hotel, great service.
We stayed here for a week and overall it was excellent. Comfortable, lots of choice where to eat, relax and drink. Very helpful and friendly staff everywhere. It’s not cheap, but it feels worth it. Maybe one or two unnecessary rules around the closing time of the rooftop pool ( which is a highlight) and the need to pre book dinners, but that’s relatively minor. I ordered flowers for my wife’s birthday, all sorted easily and the hotel sent a bottle of bubbly and cakes which was thoughtful. Overall we’d recommend it and if you’ve not been to Madeira, it’s definitely a good place to come. Ps check out my other reviews for two brilliant - and inexpensive- restaurants. The hotel restaurants are also good but a little pricey. The two we found outside were brilliant.
Wonderfull hotel for a great summer vacation
Fabulous hotel and the staff cannot do enough for you. Very attentive and polite. Special mention to Emanuel at the pool who was so helpful and obliging. Always there and one step ahead. The whole experience was truly amazing from the first day to the last.
Emanuel at the savoy palace
Having stayed at the Royal savoy for many years we have desired to try the savoy palace in Funchal madeira The staff cannot do enough but 1 in particular Emanuel around the pool area goes above and beyond nothing is to much trouble he was fantastic at the Royal savoy and is not letting the savoy palace down
Luxury with drawbacks
The design and interiors are exceptionally luxurious. Drawbacks: 1. Pool is not heated in summer time 2. 5 days in the beginning of June - buffet dinner restaurant is closed. You just can't have a buffet dinner in a giant 5-star hotel 3. All the service and cooking in restaurants is very slow. You always need to wait. Any lunch or dinner will not take you less than 1.5 hours. 4. Annoying room service. In the morning they wake you up to clean the room, then they come to bring you water, then for turndown service (just 2 sweets), then for something else. It never ends. Bring everything in 1 visit? Not possible 5. In the evening before check out we came to reception to settle bills to not waste time in the morning. Bills were paid, everything seemed fine. Guess what? In the morning they say that last night was not added to the bill. Taxi is waiting, we pay the remaining sum in a hurry
Worst hotel in Madeira
Save your money and do not stay at this place! Our flight was rerouted back to Lisbon because it could not land due to weather and wind. The hotel REFUSED to refund us our money due to things out of our control! Worst customer service ever. Edit: They then lied to us and said no one from Priceline contacted them. Upon checking notes from the credit company, it says that a Dua from the reservation department denied the refund. Worst hotel.
First visit to Madeira - would love to return
The hotel has a great location, a safe and pleasant 15 minute walk into the centre of Funchal. An alternative route being via the garden from which you can access a number of lovely alternative restaurants. The hotel itself is impressive. I would definitely pay the premium for a sea view - interesting view of the cruise ships coming and going, if that is your bag. The hotel and its grounds contain lots of lovely different areas from which to relax. Rooms spacious and comfortable and the breakfasts were excellent - so much to choose from. Weather good when we visited and able therefore to breakfast outside which was a wonderful start to the day. All the staff were professional helpful and courteous. Noted there were one or two derogatory reviews in conjunction with the immediate request for 200 euros on arriving at the hotel in lieu of future purchases. The amount is not debited to the account. At the end of the holiday a bill is provided which you pay. I do not however that a ‘pending’ payment does remain within my app under transactions in relation to the original 200 euro request mentioned above, which seems strange. This some days after the holiday ended. Something I will keep an eye on and refer to the hotel if not removed. Overall the accommodation/food/staff/location all lived up to it’s 5 star status and I would be pleased to return again in the future.
A Truly Five Star Experience in a Wonderful Location.
We booked the Savoy Palace for our silver wedding anniversary. We wanted somewhere that we would be pampered, made to feel special, and where we could totally relax in wonderful surroundings. The Savoy Palace delivered all of that and much more besides. We had booked a half board package in a superior ocean view room. Arrival; the front of the Savoy Palace is very imposing, with a covered area for arrival and departure, manned by a number of valets/porters, including a very tall man in grey morning dress and a pink top hat. We were welcomed to the hotel by the porters, who took our luggage from the taxi and straight to our room while we checked in. We were immediately met by reception by a very friendly lady, who quickly and efficiently checked us in in the huge, imposing reception area. The way that everything works, including the half board arrangements and the layout of the hotel were so well explained that we did not have any questions. The reception area is vast and modern, although there is a 1920s/ early art deco feel that runs through the hotel, along with touches of greenery and occasional, carefully chosen pieces of antique furniture. There is a latticework theme throughout the hotel, which echoes the Madeiran lace makers, and this is found in the staircase, the bridge and the rooms. All of the staff that we met were friendly and helpful. The Room: Our room on the 11th floor was very spacious, with a very large bed, desk, console table, comfortable chairs and plenty of clothes storage. There was a nespresso machine with coffee capsules provided, a kettle and 2 sizes of cups and saucers. Unfortunately, the only tea provided was chamomile or another herbal sort. A large bowl of fresh fruit was also provided, along with plates, cutlery and napkins. The ensuite was actually 3 rooms, a separate toilet and bidet, a large shower and a large wash stand area with two basins. Gold taps and marble throughout completed the effect of sheer opulence. Pleanty of toiletries and towels were provided, as well as dressing gowns and slippers. We had a quite large balcony with spectacular views over the ocean and Funchal harbour. There was a table and two chairs on the balcony, and we spent a lot of time there. We enjoyed watching the cruise ships and yachts sailing in and out of the harbour. We looked down on the outdoor swimming pool area and over to the Royal Savoy between us and the sea. The view was truly delightful. The room was immaculately clean at all times, with the cleaning service very polite and unobtrusive. They never walked in without knocking, and were happy to come back later if we were still in the room. The turn down service was also a treat, occurring while we were at dinner. Air conditioning and ventilation were great once they were working, however it took the first 48 hours before ours was fixed, making the nights a bit stuffy. Restaurants: The half board package applied in 2 restaurants, Pao de Lume and Terreiro, where we had a separate menu which was five courses and was more limited than the a la carte menu from which it was taken. The quality and quantity of the food, however, was no different to the a la carte menu. The only criticism was that the menu choices kept repeating over the two weeks. Drinks were reasonably priced and there was a large choice to suit all wallets. Both restaurants were very pleasant and relaxed, with a good choice of seating inside and outside, and the service was impeccable, with very friendly, courteous staff throughout. The breakfast choice was huge and well prepared, again with very good staff, who rotated around the hotel restaurants. There were a number of other restaurants that we did not try in the Savoy Palace. We did have the option to eat at the Royal Savoy next door, at their Neptune and Armada restaurants and we found both of these to be very good as well. For Lunch, we had a couple of meals at the Alameda restaurant, by the pool at the Savoy Palace. Again, this was excellent. We also used the room service menu on one day, and this was also very good. Outdoor areas: The huge outdoor pool is set beautifully with the latticework bridge over it. It is surrounded by high quality sun loungers, with towels provided. The attendants are working continually keeping the whole area beautifully tidy and catering to the needs of the guests. Surrounding the pool area and a number of other seating areas is a spectacular botanical garden, with everything ranging from olive trees that are hundreds of years old to hibiscus, bougainvillea, tulip trees, and many plants that we could not identify. Staff were installing a labelling system while we were there. All of the grounds are maintained immaculately, with not a crack between paving, or a stray leaf or speck of dust where it shouldn't be. We even saw staff polishing the sun loungers in the morning and evening, and they were regularly sweeping up or doing minor bits of maintenance, but very unobtrusively. Concierge: I would like to make particular mention of the concierge service. We asked if he could book us a number of day trips while we were there, which he was delighted to oblige with. He gave us excellent advice including suggesting that we swapped our preferred catamaran trip for the Atlantic Pearl trip, pointing out that it was slightly smaller and much less crowded than some of the others. He was absolutely right, and we had a particularly good trip as a result. He also checked the weather forecast, suggesting the best days for certain trips. Brilliant! Position: The Savoy Palace is located to the west of the city centre of Funchal, but only a 15 minute walk from the centre. Shops for essentials are close to the hotel, and we didn't lack for anything. It is a 25 minute walk to the marina from where catamaran trips go, and a similar distance to the cable car. If you choose a yellow taxi, the fare into Funchal centre is between 6 and 10 euros, and the doorman will call a cab for you if needed. The hill back up can feel a bit daunting in the heat and if you aren't in the first flush of youth! The sea can be accessed from the Royal Savoy, and a footbridge links the two hotels. All in all, this is one of the best holidays that we have ever had, and the Savoy Palace surpassed expectations. I have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed stays in a number of 5 star hotels over the years, but the Savoy Palace has been my favourite so far.
Beautiful Hotel But A Ruined Trip - Beware of Food Poisoning!
We were initially impressed by the Savoy Palace. The place itself is beautiful. However, our entire vacation was unfortunately overshadowed by a terrible experience with food poisoning from the hotel food. On two separate days, myself and my travel companion became incredibly sick after eating at the hotel. We spent our entire trip confined to our room, only able to properly explore Madeira for one day and barely able to enjoy the hotel's facilities. Instead, we were stuck battling nausea and dehydration, surviving on bland ice tea (which the hotel charged us for despite giving us the food poisoning in the first place!). To top it all off, we had to pay for two expensive doctor visits to come to the hotel to get treatment for the illness. If you're considering staying at the Savoy, beware of the potential food poisoning. Was not worth it.
Fabulous hotel
We have - sadly - just returned home from a fantastic holiday in Madeira at the Savoy Palace. The hotel really is fabulous and the brilliant staff made sure our stay was perfect. The Savoy Palace is in a perfect location - just a 20-minute or so drive from the airport and with plenty of great restaurants, cafes and shops nearby. It is a pleasant 15-minute walk into Funchal town and there are bus stops right outside. All areas of the hotel are modern, stylish and spotlessly clean - the housekeeping and cleaning teams do a great job here. There are a number of terrific restaurants at the hotel and we ate in the Almeda pool bar, Terreiro, Pau De Lume and the lobby bar. All had great menus and the staff were excellent. You can also visit the restaurants - and other facilities - at the sister hotel via the walkway bridge, using your room card. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was one of the best we’ve enjoyed in any hotel. The buffet has every type of food you could wish for and there is an excellent show kitchen making omelettes and delicious eggs benedict freshly for you. Breakfast is in a bright, spacious restaurant on the ground floor by the pool area, with friendly attentive staff. We stayed in an ocean view room on the eighth floor and it was fantastic - lots of storage space, big shower, double basins and a great balcony. It’s worth paying for an ocean view if you can to enjoy looking out across the pool and the ocean beyond. The room was kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping team who provided cartons of drinking water each day, along with a sweet treat in the evening as part of the turndown service. The pool area is great - very spacious and attractive with lots of different areas to relax. There are different types of beds and loungers and there always seemed to be good availability. It is also worth having a dip in the infinity pool on the 17th floor to enjoy those views. The staff at the Savoy Palace were fantastic. In particular, Natalie on the front desk was amazing in making sure we had everything we needed during our stay and Artur gave us fantastic tips and advice about things to do on the island. I wish I could list everyone here but it is a brilliant team and each and every member of staff made sure we had a fantastic stay. Obrigado! We would love to visit the beautiful island of Madeira again and would stay at the Savoy Palace when we do without hesitation. A fantastic experience - I would recommend staying here to anybody.
Beautiful comfortable resort
We stayed at The Reserve - which is a boutique hotel within the Savoy Palace. The rooms were spacious and comfortable even with an extra bed. The bathroom had every amenity. We had special treats delivered each evening to enjoy. The weather wasn’t great when we were there but the pool was beautiful. The roof had great views. The gym had everything you needed. The staff was available to help with any questions. The location was really good too. We were able to walk into the center of Funchal and also try some restaurants and bars in the immediate neighborhood of the hotel. You can also walk to a swimming platform for the ocean at the sister property about 5 minutes away. This hotel felt very luxurious and we felt pampered while staying there. The staff was clearly trying very hard to make visitors have a good experience.
Not 5-star service and lack of concern for customer safety
I would just like to share my recent experience at the 5-Star Savoy Palace Hotel, Funchal Madeira one of the leading hotels of the world!!! On arrival at 13.50 (check in 14.00) we were informed the room was not yet available therefore would have expected reception to show us to a suitable comfortable location to sit and wait but no we had to ask ourselves. Anyway we were told by reception the room would be and had to be ready at 14.00 and they would bring the room key to us. 30-minutes later still no key so my wife went to reception and yes the key was ready even though they are supposed to come to us. Then we had to ask where the room and elevator is which should have been explained by reception. First morning at breakfast yet again no explanation of the breakfast layout. In the meantime following the reception debacle we had received a letter from Joana Franca (Guest experience team leader) and a courtesy 1/2 bottle of Madeira wine. So we went to see Joana and explained what had happened at check-in and she explained this was not acceptable and not inline with the usual hotel procedures and offered us a courtesy bottle of house wine. The last evening we had dinner booked at the Terreiro Restaurant with our complimentary bottle of house wine offered due to the earlier problems at check in. So we sat down at the table and my wife pulled the chair closer to table and something I have never seen before in my life the chair collapsed underneath her, see attached photographs. This is negligence on behalf of the hotel. We have twice asked the hotel to share the damage report for the chair including the suppliers report and reason for collapse. Much more serious injury could of occurred and this hotel has just not taken the issue seriously. More reviews/comments can be seen on Google. E-mail sent to the hotel CEO is below and to date no response received. Dear Roberto We still await a response from you regards the below e-mail from Mrs Simmons. Where are the copies of the chair damage reports from the Savoy Palace and the chair manufacturer, what is the explanation and fault behind the faulty item you allowed my wife to sit on? This is not an unfortunate incident it is negligence on behalf of the hotel and if we cannot come to a satisfactory agreement we will take this further. I am extremely disappointed with the response from you and the hotel in general as the hotel is responsible for the health and safety of all guests at all times during their stay. You can see from all the below e-mails and google reviews what happened during our stay at the Savoy Palace which is obviously not acceptable. Please take this matter seriously as we are.
Obrigada Savoy Palace
We had a wonderful holiday at the Savoy Palace, which was made even more special by the attentive staff. The hotel grounds are beautiful, with spacious bedrooms and great pool areas, as well as a luxurious spa. We really enjoyed the Easter brunch - the pen with the chicks and rabbits was a lovely touch. The breakfast is very nice with so much selection. The staff are always super helpful when you arrive and when you are seated. We ate in the Terreiro restaurant one night, which served really good food, and Galaxia is worth a visit for a drink or two - especially when the DJ is playing. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Funchal - you won’t be disappointed. Obrigada to everyone at Savoy Palace! 😊
End of the year
For the 2nd time I stayed at this magnificent hotel. Imposing in every aspect. I spent the end of the year night at the hotel and honestly it didn't live up to its 5 stars. Weak. The fire seen from the sky bar is magnificent, it's a shame that the smoke sometimes drowned out the view.
Not 5 star rude staff
I’ve given 1 star because I can’t give 0 stars this is a review for the service we received at the beginning and for what happened at the end of our stay at the Savoy Palace. I won’t go into what happened at the beginning that was discussed with Joana Franca. What I’m more bothered about is what happened at the end of our stay. What happened could’ve resulted in a much more serious injury due to the collapsed restaurant chair (photos attached) all I did was pull my chair in closer to the table. Hotel director says these things happen, no they don’t not in the hotels I stay in and that’s five stars all the time and never has it ever happened to myself or have I seen it happen to anyone else until that night when there could’ve been another collapsed chair. I also noticed another guest sat nearby asked for her chair of the same design to be changed please speak to your staff about this guest she didn’t even see my chair collapse she arrived after the event. There was a couple who witnessed my fall from the collapsed chair. I did not receive an apology from the General Manager. After the chair incident one of your waiters said I can’t look at you as I want to laugh how rude you do not at any time speak to guest in this manner, would they have laughed if I had broken a bone etc I had to laugh it off but for a five star hotel this is diabolical. On another note drinking glasses not washed or new ones given my lipstick was still on the glass and this is after my room was cleaned, toilet in our room seemed to smell, dirty marks on the wall near the patio door. Rude staff one thought it funny how I had my coffee and had pleasure in saying so at least three times when having breakfast again very rude it’s not acceptable. We also didn’t see any life guards near the pool unless the guys that give out the towels are life guards. Locked out of our room at 11:20 even though we had someone collecting our bags at 11:30 plus it is 12 noon when you have to vacate. My husband had to go to reception to have the key reset. This was our second trip to the Madeira 1st at this hotel. This was not a five star hotel My husband as yet to review
Amazing 5* hotel in great location.
We spent in this hotel 7 days and every day we were amazed with the amenities and tropical garden which this hotel can offer. Stunning view from the 16th floor of the hotel, infinity pool on the roof and very big outside swimming and resting area. Breakfast was very nice too. Big varieties of food and excellent service. In the nights, there were a live Music which we were enjoying with some nice cocktails or small bites. Cool Spa!!! Minuses: very small indoor pool and my t-shirt was missing during bed sheets changing, after reporting on the reception no body did anything with this.
First impressions
Arrived 21st march still here first impression of the hotel very nice and welcoming very good but then…. Checked in at 1:50pm was told our room not ready yet but also told it should be done by 2pm. We said ok was then told we will ring you when ready. At 2:20pm nothing so I went up to the reception asked about our room I was then given a key. Went back to where my husband was sat then released we didn’t know where our room was only that it was on the 10th floor. So back I went to ask and where the lifts were. We wasn’t even offered a complementry drink while we waited. Room is very nice but bed is hard and the pillows feel like your lay on blown up ballon’s not very comfy at all. Looks like I’m going to have to ask to change them. Let’s see what the rest of the week is like hopefully it will be ok as I said lovely looking hotel and very clean.
Savoy Palace Madeira
I am not sure how to rate my experience. If 3.5 was an option I would choose that. But due to my families experiences I am rounded down to 3. We were expecting a 5-star experience, but unfortunately, that did not happen. Check-in was friendly, but they were not ready for us; even though we arrived after check-in time, we had to wait an additional hour. The rooms were spacious, a nice view from the patio, dark curtains, and very quiet, room temperature was pleasant, all equaling a great night’s rest. The do not disturb sign was not honored on more than one occasion. I did not call to complain as I dislike being confrontational while on holiday, but this seriously bothered me. There is no excuse for entering a room when the do not disturb sign is on the door, barring an emergency. Bathroom: Turning on/off the sink was cumbersome, the water splashed everywhere, making a mess unless you are very gentle with it. The sink area lacks space and is sloppy. The shower wand is not adjustable, it is mounted too low. Tap water is safe to drink in Madeira, but it smells fishy in their tap and runs too warm. Some drinking water is provided in the room, but not enough. The towels and bed linens were dingy. The staff did not continually replenish the towels that they took. One day, we were left with no wash clothes, the following day we were given only one hand towel. One morning, they left us with no floor towel. I am sure I could have called to request more, but I should not have to do so. There is coffee/tea in the room, but tiny cups are provided. It would have been nice to have larger ones available (like the size at breakfast, especially for the tea). Breakfast: They provided a lovely buffet with spacious seating both inside and out. A beautiful selection of fresh fruits, detox juice, coffee made as you desire, three types of sausages, cooked veggies, but they are very oily and overcooked, local honey, local cookies/Portuguese tarts, cheeses, breads etc. A chef around the back will make omelets or eggs to your preference. The breakfast area has something for everyone. The bacon was a disappointment. The breakfast staff is hit-and-miss regarding professionalism/kindness/service. Some are exceptional, others cold/indifferent/pretentious. Plates are not cleaned off between replenishing at the buffet. Bar/lounge: Spacious. Live piano music in the evenings. Elevator: The carpet is very loose in the elevator; it buckles, which is a tripping hazard. You can use the sister property to access the ocean. When we went down to explore, we felt the staff was not welcoming and was rude. When we returned home, we were prompted by an email to review our experience; I do not appreciate when a property asks for a review. Nor do I understand how we started to receive numerous emails from the Savoy; maybe I remember wrongly, but I thought they asked us verbally, or perhaps it was on the registration form if we wanted marketing. And I remember clearly saying no. I now need to figure out how to stop the marketing emails. Many of our bad experiences come down to poorly trained staff and management, which is not what we expected from the Savoy. We left feeling that our experience should have been better.
Dream stay.
Superb hotel with all the comfort you could wish for. The staff was very attentive. It was a wonderful stay. Preferably choose a room with a sea view. The restaurants and the breakfast buffet are to be recommended. The rooms are very large and offer great comfort.
Stunning hotel experience, food could be improved
We are a couple in our late 30's and stayed for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. The hotel, its gardens and facilities are truly gorgeous. We were glad we upgraded our room to one with ocean view, which you can see even from the shower! The service is very attentive albeit discreet. We did not dine there outside of breakfast, the reviews of the restaurants are not good enough and we had a 22€ "bread" and pata Negra snack on the rooftop on our first day which definitely wasn't worth the price and put us off. We would definitely stay there again however and very much enjoyed the experience.
The best Hotel I have ever stayed in
Savoy Palace is far the best Hotel I have ever stayed in. Apart from the luxurious details, decoration, facilities and perfect location, the staff is the best I have ever experienced. You feel that you are always welcome and everyone is always willing to help. They are always smiling and you feel that they are happy in their jobs. The SPA is outstanding! I highly recommend this Hotel. The Reserve is the new Hotel inside Savoy Palace, that is even more luxurious. The service and attention is fantastic, as well as the food, the details, the amenities in the rooms and the kindness of the staff. I will come back very soon for sure! Congratulations to this fantastic pearl in the middle of the Atlantic!!
Good location, good rooms pleasant staff.
Pleasant luxury hotel well located for centre of Funchal and attractions. Could walk through grounds to Royal Savoy at seafront for sea swimming. Amazed the hotel wanted to charge 40e per person per day to use the spa, sauna etc. never had this at a good hotel anywhere in the world before, is this a Portuguese thing? I don’t think this is acceptable considering the room rate at this hotel. Breakfast was good and food at the hotel was acceptable however the hotel has several very good local restraunts behind the hotel which are really worth trying.
Excellent
My wife and I stayed 26th February and 4th March 2024.. The hotel itself, for us, neared perfection. Staff were discrete, professional, always helpful and attentive. The food in general, a culinary delight. In terms of breakfast, a variety of eggs; the Benedict breakfast, optional smoked salmon, avocado and glass of champagne in particular was top notch, all included in the B&B rate; no sneaky hidden extra costs for signature breakfasts previously charged at 5 star hotels we’ve visited. During our B&B stay we dined in the Palace restaurants (also the Royal Savoy Hotel which, too, was of a high standard). To our delight, the food at Savoy Palace Skyline Restaurant was comparable to Michelin star meals we have previously enjoyed, yet prices here, for the tasting menus for example, were somewhat lower. The ambiance, staff service (nb spectacular glass harbour night illuminated viewing platform) are exemplary. Helpful to consider what appetite for investment in food quality one wishes to make before booking this hotel, essentially, the Savoy Palace offers food at the very best standard Madeira can offer, winning said award to boot. Fact: this hotel is true sophistication, cosmopolitan 5 star quality, prices and standards will naturally reflect this. As part of the ‘leading hotels of the world’ group it may not be be the cheapest answer for a mass market package holiday guest wanting ‘a really good deal in an ultra posh hotel’. In addition to several incredibly delicious, superb high end evening meals in the hotel, we booked the traditional afternoon tea in their beautiful design lounge which tasted, quite simply, sublime. We asked to meet the chefs in both eateries at the Palace to congratulate them in person for their exquisite skills in perfecting creative food at this level. Amazing swimming pool, temperature of the water was refreshing, as a regular swimmer I couldn’t fault it. Criticisms: superior deluxe sea view room 10th floor Space for clothing could be be improved simply by the introduction of a chest of drawers in this very spacious room as our separates needed to be folded, placed in stacks on the wardrobe shelves as wardrobe space was insufficient, we hadn’t packed super lightly; we brought this to the attention of reception and this issue was instantly taken up and swiftly resolved for us on this occasion.. Lastly Babies/children rather dominated the quiet atmospheric, stunning indoor pool. Perhaps a ‘children’s session’ could be explored in view of the interruption/disturbance of infants noise puncturing the well-being ambience. There is a high cost to swim in the larger indoor pool situated in the Spa. This is perhaps the issue with the small sanctuary pool, it’s free of extra charges. Spa treatments could be reduced per Sami to encourage guests to use the Spa/Indoor pool as Spa/ Indoor Pool use comes free with any treatment.
Shameful half board deal. Avoid.
We stayed for 7 nights in March 2024. The hotel, service and catering are as others positively describe. It is very good. We booked via British Airways and took a seaview room and upgraded from B&B to half board. The half board cost us an extra €850 (approx) That’s around €57 per night, per person) which would not have been unreasonable but when you checkin you get two pretty unpleasant shocks. The first is that dining is restricted to just two restaurants and in those restaurants there is a limited and very restricted “special” menu prepared for half board customers. If you don’t like the choices in those menus, you can choose to eat a la carte in those same two restaurants OR indeed in any restaurant in any of the Savoy group hotels in the island. But here is the crazy, unfair and pretty nasty bit. If you do chose to eat in those places a la carte you are granted a measly €25 off the full a la carte price - remember that we had pre-paid €57 each per night and the hotel’s dine around ”deal” offers just €25. The hotel “trousers” €32 for each guest (€64 per couple). The staff acknowledge how unfair that is (I call it theft) and simply say “Sorry, that is head office policy, we can’t do anything about it”. Well, “head office” your policy is a disgraceful practice. You should be ashamed.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Our second visit very relaxing.
Lovely hotel, very nice room, comfortable bed and private balconies. Good breakfast with plenty of variety and choice, a great omelette station. This is our second visit which we enjoyed as much as the first. The staff throughout the hotel were helpful.
Top Flight Hotel
The Savoy Palace was a wonderful hotel with all amenities readily available and accessible. We were on the run and as such only used the breakfast buffet for meals. The variety was excellent, could not have asked for more. The biggest impression for us was the quality of the staff. We have never seen such smiling faces, friendly demeanor and helpfulness - honestly the best staff we have ever experienced! A pleasure with each interaction. Location was good - an easy walk to the old town and a bus stop right in front. We have only 1 complaint/suggestion - there are no hooks in the bath areas to hang towels, toilet kits, robes etc. That ought to be rectified.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
