A sophisticated Italian restaurant with outstanding service.
Excellent little Upper East Side gem. Perfect for after museum visits. Make a reservation as it is very well subscribed. Food, service and environment were all excellent.
Be the first to ReplyAfter 3 decades very disappointed
Been a fan and customer since 1994. Would visit 4-5 times per visit to Manhattan. However has become too touristic, expensive and food and service has suffered. $25 for a plate of parmesan cheese and salty olives! Too expensive. Cod over $90 and all other dishes too expensive and rushed to the table. Service okay but too crowded
Be the first to ReplyGreat Brunch
We had a great brunch. Service was great and food was incredible. Great breakfast foods. We had Crostino Milanese and pancakes. Both were great. Thanks for a great meal.
Be the first to ReplyRemains an iconic place
This place remains iconic Great atmosphere Good food Good service Not cheap but glam A piece of Milano with a NY style

Potentially an amazing brunch place but disappointed. We were seated immediately by a friendly host and the pastries were awesome but both my friend and I got eggshells in our scrambled eggs and eggs Benedict (how does that happen?). Table service was strangely off eg had to ask several times for sugar. Management adjusted our bill for one entree but was a real let down overall after high anticipation.
Be the first to ReplyDeaf and HOH not welcome!
Deaf and HOH are not welcome here. My husband explained that I don’t hear and asked for a dessert menu. We were told there was no written menu. The waiter then proceeded to show the desserts while I attempted to read his lips while he spoke swiftly and unclearly in a dimly lit restaurant. When I asked what “princess cake” is -(doesn’t seem self explanatory to me) he got annoyed and then produced a written menu and disappeared for quite some time. In the end we decided not to continue with the meal. Deaf and HOH patrons are entitled to know what they are ordering for safely and for preference -just like everyone else. They should be ashamed.
Be the first to ReplyA perfect breakfast spot!
A beautiful gem in the heart of Manhattan. The service was excellent and all the waiters were happy to help. The food was delicious and they could accommodate all of our many food allergies. Definitely one to go back to!

Been a family/friends Favourite since way back when. Whether you stop by for the authentic coffee bar, a sorbet or dolce, or a seating I. The lovely dining room for a delectable meal where the staff is always excellent.
Be the first to ReplyHorrific!
Absolutely awful! Service was non existent and we left after waiting for our brunch over 1.25hrs! Waiter was upset when I asked him if our cocktail was ready after waiting 40min and his response was “it will be ready when the bartender makes it, I don’t make cocktails.” After letting staff know about our situation they gave us a bag of cookies!?!?! Stay far away!

Very rude waitress. See other reviews for claims of racism. Easily the worst place I’ve had food in New York. Do not go here!!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service
Excellent service, as always. The Bolognese was good, the special pappardelle was decent but would probably not order it again. Berry tart was very good.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience!
In my entire life have I ever felt offended and discriminated by a hostess. Until now. We wanted to have coffee and pastries. The waitress told us she was going to clear a table in the front of the café. Then she seated us outside because according to her she could no longer seat us at the table upfront. According to her the server was not going to be able to serve us there. Much to our surprise we noticed that she seated a few people who came AFTER us (with the same number of persons as we were) where she said she was going to seat us at first. What a disappointment for what was supposed to be a nice afternoon experience. Will not ever return to this place!
Be the first to ReplyLovely atmosphere, delicious food and exceptional service
Very charming atmosphere inside and out. We had wine and prosecco and it was very smooth and refreshing. Pasta was to die for. Everything from the menu was delicious. The bread they served was warm and crunchy paired up with sweet and tangy balsamic sauce and robust olive oil. Yum! Don't leave without having desert! From hazelnut and tiramisu to Italian biscotti, everything was delicious. Our server Luna was amazing! Very professional and fun. She made phenomenal drinks. She was great. On top of that, the management was super sweet. This spot is a must if u want a romantic atmosphere, fantastic service and delicious food.

Wonderful menu, the selection of food we had, service, recommendations, the wait staff, kitchen staff, atmosphere, all superb. It brought us home to Italy where we lived for almost 4 years. On our way home to Virginia my wife and I stopped in NYC to have lunch with a good friend who lives there. He had us come to Sant Ambroeus on Madison Ave. What a delight. Thank You Sant Ambroeus on Madison Ave for a delightful, Delicious, memorable, time. We'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Italian
Stopped in during a trip to NYC a short walk from The Met. Excellent service and the food, delicious. Eric was our server. We tried a calamari appetizer that was so savoy and the perfect texture. Eggplant and veal pasta dishes were superb. We don’t get to New York often but we will definitely return. Thank you for an excellent experience.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced - Overrated
Overpriced and in general an average restaurant.
Nothing special to spent your time and money here, when you can find so many more restaurants to really enjoy your time.
We had the vitello tonnato that was too average and overpriced. We also had the pappardelle ai funghi that was a good one though not so special only too expensive; the linguine alle vongole that were really good and the trancio di salmone that was overcooked and not a good one, not to mention that we had ordered asparagus with this one as a side and they arrived after we had finished our food.
Finally we had their famous coffee and two sweets. Sweets were a gianduja cake that was delicious and the pecan pie that was below average. Coffee was just too expensive, nothing more!
Overall, we paid for spaghetti as much as we would pay at a really good steakhouse and we didn’t enjoy our lunch.
Gourgeous breakfast
Very elegant, nice and friendly service, delicious food. We chose to eat outside, however a bit cold with all the heaters on
Be the first to ReplyGood but pricey
We ordered the Gianduia and Pumpkin Cheesecake along with 2 hot chocolates. Everything was very tasty but pricey.
Be the first to ReplyGood but expensive
The place is very elegant, the service is very kind, the food and tastes are great. Just the portions and prices I would little claim
Be the first to ReplyChic but expensive on UES
Great place to people watch, have wonderful Italian food and sinfully delicious desserts (go for the Gelato) on the UES. A bit pricey but more than makes up for it in the scene.
Be the first to ReplyDisgraceful fall from grace
I've been coming to Sant Ambroeus for 15 years, having been right by my apartment in the early days and being a loyal follower for the rest. I knew the staff well, and they knew me, and I was always treated well and in return I treated them well.
During COVID I left the city but now return on business. I popped in around 1130 and the place was empty in the back completely, I asked for my usual table and was told that they don't seat people there during lunch. Hmm, well I see two gentlemen there already? So they moved me to the middle section. Then I saw that they had tagliatelle on the lunch menu and I asked if they couldn't whip up some of the pennette pomodoro (my favorite dish from all the way back to college) to which the waiter said yes but then the disgusting maitre d came rushing all the way back to my table to say the waiter was mistaken and they could not serve pennette.
You see, the tagliatelle guy comes in early around 10am and prepares the tagliatelle specifcially, but the pennette guy doesn't come until 1130am so you can't have that until 12 noon. To be so stubborn and so rude over such a simple dish, which is one of your main dishes, and to a repeat customer, is nothing short of a disgrace. I will never return, and thankfully, since the first days I came here, there are now many more authentic italian restaurants in the city so it won't be that hard to replace.
Good riddance.
Careless and inattentive staff
I came for drinks with friends. We waited over 30 minutes for cocktails. We were given cake after staff realized we were waiting quite a while. After our drinks finally came out, the shots we ordered came as well. One whole shot was spilt on the table and on my pants and shoes as well as my boyfriend’s pants and shoes. Our server said sorry and walked away. We weren’t given anything to clean off with or get a replacement drink. Good thing I had napkins in my bag to clean the mess. We asked for water 3 times and never received water. After we received our drinks the door to get inside was locked. The bill was paid for upon ordering the drinks earlier in the evening which leads me to believe the carelessness was due to already being paid and not needing to be concerned about customer experience. $170 later for 5 drinks, 4 shots(because one spilt), wet pants and shoes, no water, and cockroaches roaming around outside isn’t the best experience. There wasn’t even a way to ask for partial refund or replaced drinks. This was a rip off and not worth a return visit.
