Sado St. Louis Reviews from The Last Year
Title: A Culinary Gem in Illinois: Worth Every Mile
Title: A Culinary Gem in Illinois: Worth Every Mile Traveled I recently made the journey from Los Angeles to Illinois, and let me tell you, it was worth every minute of the hour-long trip. As a seasoned sushi connoisseur accustomed to the best in LA, I can confidently say that this place stands out like no other in Illinois. Sure, there's Nobu in the Del Mar Loop, but securing a reservation there is a feat in itself. From the moment I stepped in, I was impressed. Starting with their social hour menus, every bite was a delight. Their nigiris and chef's sashimi selection were outstanding, and the sake, especially the Bride of Fox, elevated the experience. Opting for the top-tier omakase was a decision I'll never regret. The chef, clearly passionate about their craft, went above and beyond, surprising me with extra treats along the way. The fusion of Thai influences in some dishes showcased their culinary artistry. A highlight for me was the uni and nigiri with caviar, followed by their wagyu burger, which I couldn't finish in one sitting. But even the leftovers were a treat the next day, serving as a delicious reminder of the culinary journey I experienced. While I had budgeted for $200-$300, I ended up spending more solo. Yet, every penny was justified by the exceptional quality and service. Speaking of service, the staff were attentive and friendly, reminiscent of upscale dining experiences in California. This establishment sets a standard that every restaurant should aspire to. If you find yourself in Illinois craving top-notch sushi and unparalleled service, don't hesitate to make the trip. Trust me; you won't regret it.
Sado hits all the right notes.
It has everything from quiet ambiance to excellent food and service.
I'm so happy this place opened.
The food is awesome and different from what you'll find in St Louis. The cocktails were just as satisfying!

This spot was highly recommended my our friend, and it lived up to its hype. The complimentary smoked salmon nigiri from the sushi chef was amazing: slight sweetness and smokey. Salmon aguachile: The salmon was really good with the puffed rice. The apple pieces added a nice sweetness within the cucumber aguachile. Despite the strange green looking liquid, the aguachile broth itself was refreshing and tasty. Black tea kanpachi: The broth flavor was super strong. I suppose it's the black tea cured amberjack in more black tea ponzu that are the culprits. It was a tad too strong for my taste, but our local friend whom recommended this loves this dish. The secret burger (aka wagyu burger): This was delicious even though it was super duper messy to consume. The wagyu was so juicy and fatty. The flavorful aioli added to the existing fats -- yum. Our friend said the kitchen only makes a limited number of this so order up while supplies last. If you order this, it will be a good filler and make you full at the end of the meal. Akami maki: This was the most unique item we've experienced. The tuna was good. I didn't realize there was fatty and lean tuna. Whoops. There was also Thai chili within the roll that gave it a little kick. All this sat upon a green sauce (tamarind cilantro sauce). The hubs loved this roll the best; I had the polar opposite opinion (I didn't like the kick to this -- haha). Shibo maki: Salmon belly and avocado. Yum. The ikura (salmon caviar) provided a nice popping texture. I love all things salmon so this roll was the perfect pick. Spicy tuna maki: The yellowfin tuna was super refined. There was a nice lingering spice on your tongue afterwards. The tobiko (flying fish roe) added a nice texture. This roll was good but pretty average overall compared to the others. Interesting fact: One of the sushi chef said that their favorite fish to work with was the mackerel. Yes, there's that recognizable blue toned one. But he pointed out two other types: One of which was Spanish and maybe the other was Yuzu which is Japanese. Sado is a great restaurant if you're looking for something more fine dining. It was about $80 per person with what we ordered including the automatic 20% gratuity.
Listen, Sado is a phenomenal restaurant.
The food, the vibe, and the service was second to none. My wife cannot stop talking bout how much she enjoyed our date night.

One of my favourite places to eat for sushi! The quality of the dishes are high, the fish is fresh and the esthetic of the dishes make every bite all the more savory. I've been here several times in the last few months and have yet to be disappointed. Dishes are on the pricier side but so worth it.
The food is delicious, fresh, and creative.
Service was great too! Definitely will be going back.
This place is absolutely amazing.
Even if you don't like sushi, there's other things that you can eat, but the sushi was the best I've ever had and I'm a big connoisseur.
Clean, great atmosphere, delicious food, creative.
.. in my opinion Best sushi in St Louis
The ambiance was serving, and the food tasted authentic.
Also, it my first time there, and the waitress served us Brussel Sprouts on the house. Ngl, I never knew Brussel Sprouts could taste so good and was legit my favorite item (and I promise you I'm not saying this just because it's free). We also got drinks, but they were just okay; they were a bit strong, and we couldn't finish them. But overall, we had a good experience and our bill came out to ~$120 with the 20% tip included.
TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT
We went with another couple & paid nearly $200 for one of the worst meals of our lives. Terrible service, lousy food. My dinner was cold when it arrived, as was our friends', & the duck was tough & chewy. We'd never eat here again, cannot imagine why the high raring?

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
