Awful service and mediocre food.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. You're definitely paying for the instagram hype. Rome has 100s of fantastic restaurants

It's been 6 months since our honeymoon in Rome and I'm STILL dreaming of my dinner here. There's a reason reservations are booked months in advance. They are busy so the tables are close together and it's a tad warm inside, but it was August in a touristy town so I didn't expect much else. The food was the best I had in the city. So good, I was too busy eating to take pictures. We shared the oxtail ravioli and the cacio e pepe for our mains. OMG. If I could shrink myself down and swim in both dishes, I would. The only bad thing was this was our first dinner in Rome, so it really set the bar high. I might book a trip back just to eat here again.

Almost always busy but the food is good! Great pastries and pizza, fast moving staff, reasonably priced fares.

.. while the service was friendly and the ambience unique (we sat at the bar) not a must when in Rome.
Be the first to ReplyIt's a classic.
Tony Bourdain introduced it to the world and it's been super popular since. The carbonara is a must try. Really enjoyed the experience. Be sure to make a reservation in advance. Walk ins are nearly impossible

A few days after dining at Roscioli, in Rome, we read that the restaurant recently opened an outpost in New York City. That made the prospect of leaving Italy less depressing. My husband and I will cheerfully take the train from Philly to experience once again this restaurant's best-we've-ever-had bread basket, its peppers and anchovies stuffed with capers, and its justifiably famous carbonara, which spoiled us for every other pasta dish on our trip. Our hotel was right across from Roscioli's bakery, where we sampled excellent pizzas, pastry, and the Platonic ideal of porchetta sandwiches. We stopped again in Rome at the end of our trip and hoped to get back there. Sadly, it was booked.

An amazing dining experience when in Rome!! Whether you try this restaurant for lunch, as we did, or dinner, be sure to make a reservation as tables are limited. Atmosphere is great and it was fun for my 25-year old twins and I to sit at the bar for lunch and get treated to a birthday cocktail!! We had the best gnocchi we've ever eaten, homemade and coupled with the most delicious sauce!! Gave us the energy to continue our sightseeing and shopping for the afternoon. Highly, highly recommend, as your tastebuds will thank you!

I wish i could give this 6 stars! We did the wine and food tasting and it was the perfect mix of facts and education about Italian wine and food as well as conversation with the others at the table and of course our amazing guide to all the courses. We sat in the wine cellar in the basement which felt like a secret chamber surrounded by hundreds of bottles of wine and a cool wooden chandelier. The portions were the perfect size, one or two bites each for the cheese and meats and a few bites of the pasta course and desserts. We felt full but not terribly full as you sometimes do after ones of these. Water and bread were unlimited and the experience was one of a kind.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dinner at Roscioli in Rome.
I had the pasta carbonara which was very good. I suggest sitting at the bar/counter. The service was excellent. The ambiance is a bit loud and crowded but not too bad.
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to like this place.
Made a reservation one month in advance. Full disappointment. That is easily the worst meal we had ever. The restaurant is very difficult to get reservations to. We had reservation, ordered carbonara and francescana pastas as well as basket of breads. First came breads. Stale. Like yesterday's or day before. Fine. We don't like stale bread so didn't eat them. Next pastas arrived. They look great. One bite. Wow. They are horrible. So salty you can't take a second bite. Both of them. We asked for the check and left. You would think that restaurant will not charge for two full plates returned because they are so salty? Think again. 40 eur charged and no dinner. Horrible!

We visited from Chicago in August and this was one of the highly recommended spots to us. We did make a reservation far in advance, but happy we did because we did hear the restaurant turning people away or giving hour plus wait times for walk ups. We had a 2 seater table right by the door but the energy, food and service were incredible. Can't wait to go back!
Be the first to Reply2nd stop for the food tour.
We had suppli and various pizzas. Suppli was hot and the cheese had melted perfectly. The pizza squares were just the right temperature and ready to be devoured. The experience of being with the locals, being part of the hustle and bustle while enjoying the noshies and feeling the warmth of the sun on a cold and crips morning is a feeling I'll remember for a long time. Go, stand in line, get your pizza and immerse yourself in the culture !!!

We were able to snag in a reservation two weeks prior to coming here. It was a short walk from the Trevi Fountain to Roscioli. We checked in with the host and were seated at the bar area. The bar tender was nice. For drinks, we ordered their draft beet and a signature drink called Aridaje which translates "here we go again." The drinks were ok, not the best we've had. For food, we ordered carbonara and some tortellini soup. I would definitely recommend the carbonara. As for the soup, they should just take it off the menu. Overall, I would definitely comeback just for the carbonara.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner in Rome.
Made a reservation to sit in the wine cellar. Little cramped but cozy space and ambiance was nice. Food was fantastic. Service was friendly and attentive. Glad we came.

We came here to have some coffee and a nice snack before our long rainy day walk. The place isn't too big and we felt really squeezed in our table. Even though the place was packed, the service was still pleasant.Love loved the palmier cookie and wish I had eaten more
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants I went to in Rome.
It's a deli wine shop which adds to the charm. Best carpaccio I ve ever had. Amatriciana pasta also amazing. Wonderful staff and wine and spirit options. Everything is good in Rome, this place was exceptional and relaxed.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely salty food.
Not recommended. We came here on our honeymoon as a last stop before leaving the city. It was highly recommended by our friends and by online reviews. The location and ambiance is good, and nice for dates. But the food is extremely salty. We ordered the carbonara and the amatriciana and both of them were so salty. It's almost like they just poured salt over the whole thing before they served it. The saltiness overpowered all the other flavors. We've had much better pasta here in Rome and this place was not it. I would not come here again. Service was ok, but the food just was disgusting.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was recommended to me time and time again.
We walked here twice thinking we would get in without a reservation, but no such luck. As it turns out, it is very easy to book a reservation online. The calendar kept showing as fully booked -- so I just kept checking periodically. Finally, one slot opened up and we were able to snag a table here. The ambience is wonderful. It feels more like a deli as people are in and out. They offer seating near the deli, in the back, and by the bar. We started off with the pecorino pasta dish. It was so flavorful and delicious. For our main, we ordered the cauliflower and crusted Branzino. They were both so flavorful and the fish cooked to perfection. For dessert, we topped it off with the cannoli which is a must. All in all, this is a perfect spot to dine if you are able to get in.

Pizza has a crispy crust. I especially love the Rosso (just tomatoes) pizza.

The burratta with sun dried tomatoes was delicious!!! You can taste the freshness in both cheese & tomatoes. Enjoyed the experience and would definitely recommend it as a visit. Many places to try in Rome, so simply leave the central areas and explore!!
Be the first to ReplySome things were pretty good.
Some things not so much. And the table service is a hard two hour stop, even if it took the server 30 minutes to greet the table after sitting. That was disappointing.. if you have a two hour limit, your wait staff to be much more attentive. I suggest the cod and meatballs. All the pasta was EXTREMELY salty, none of us could finish. The spaghetti with anchovies included ONE, I repeat ONE anchovie on the top. I was going to ask our server if this was the normal portion, but she never came back to see how we were doing. Oh, and did i mention how salty the pasta was?! lol. Such a disappointment! Dessert was also mediocre.

Someone mentioned they had the carbonara yesterday and hated it. But that's just preference. I dont think it deserves a 1 star review for not liking one dish.I order carbonara quite frequently across italy, USA, London, and Canada. After having literally dozens of carbonara. This is flat out the best carbonara I've ever had in my life. Every ingredient was fresh and I felt myself trying to lick the bowl everything was so good. I came in here not even knowing how famous this restaurant was and being more than pleasantly surprised. I don't think the wait staff was rude either, they're probably just a bit desensitized by tourists being pushy.
Be the first to ReplyIf you want to be treated less than a person and have salty
If you want to be treated less than a person and have salty undercooked al dente, over powering peppered, way salty pork cheek, heavy carbonara then come here. I don't think this restaurant knows what overly salty or too heavy means. There was much hype about this place that i was determined to try it, even without reservations. I had asked if i could sit at the bar, where i come from, in the US, they happily allow that and if you don't mind, go for it, but here, it's a NO. The head waiter was rude AF. Gives zero Fs. Even if you are trying to accommodate & ask what if someone gets up early at bar, could you take it when it's empty. Still NO. A nice local couple had helped me get a reservation for 70 mins later. They do not want nor care to accommodate. Something i am definitely not used to, having traveled in Asia, and living in the US. Restaurants in US want to please, maybe partly motivated by tips but really, it is just our culture, most wait staffs want to please. Not here or most of Europe is what i've noticed! Def not used to it! I had the aubergine appetizer only bc they told me the pasta was going to take 30 mins. I was not impressed by any dish. Pasta was way too heavy. I know Rome food is on the heavier side. But not sure what the hype is all about, honestly. I say find somewhere else to eat!

Sat downstairs in the very cool wine cellar and had great service from Ernesto! The menu is for sure fancier and more expensive- but that's why you are going! We had the caprese salad and the swordfish carpaccio to start (caprese was fine nothing special, but the swordfish was insanely good)- the bread basket was blah which was surprising bc of the bakery side to Roscioli- also no balsamic or olive oil offered with the bread which we thought was kinda weird. Our daughter ordered the gnocchi with tomato sauce and it was good! Not the best she had in Rome but really good. We shared the veal meatballs with the chestnut polenta (delicious) and the rigatoni with pork cheek (I did not care for it because I thought it was really salty but my husband liked it!). The pasta to me tasted almost too al dente. We also split a little side salad with wild herbs and oranges and pomegranate seeds and I loved it- but it was very, very small. The wine Ernesto picked out for us was really nice and tasty for the value and the aperol spritz and martini to begin were made well! We really enjoyed this last meal in Rome. Would we go back? Probably not- but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go!! We just found that we enjoyed the more casual spots in the area more.
