If there's ever a spot trying a little too hard to be 'oriental', Ron's is it. The interior is dark with loud music and small cosy tables. You'll see ducks hanging from their necks in a cold fridge downstairs, presumably the same ones that will grace your plates later with lackluster skin. Food. There were six of us and we ended up trying the blue and red menus. Shrimp toast... I assume the fusion here was the addition of avocado inside with the shrimp. Flavor was OK, but it was a little oil logged. Dim sum was interesting. The wagyu siu mai with truffle had a decent flavor. Har gao was black and not white as it is traditionally. Both that and the gyozas were good. The fried fish was the best dish. Sadly, the duck did not live up to the hype and not what Peking duck should be. The skin wasn't crispy and the meat wasn't tender/fall apart. It's accompanied by a sad amount of thin dough wraps for you to create your pancake with. Note: There were six of us and six wraps. So, you'll have to ask for more immediately. And it takes a while. Service was decent, but did slow down as the restaurant got busier. Music was loud and it got harder to hear as the evening wore on. Ironically, they tell you that you've only got 2 hours at your table, and yet they were slow to take orders, bring out food, etc. Loads of amazing restaurants in Amsterdam that this was disappointing for our last night in town. Particularly at the price point.

Can I eat the whole menu? The only issue you might have is holding yourself back from trying too much. It truly is a gastronomic take on Chinese/Indo food. I am a sucker for the snacks and dim sum. Highly recommend doing a sampler. We also got the curry shrimp and beef satay. The shrimp was amazing and paired with white rice that comes with it but you can also get a side of noodles or fried rice. Modern and trendy vibes in the heart of Amsterdam with Spicy, tangy, Asian goodness!

I had a wonderful meal here tonight, all vegan, and all super delicious. They even brought me a raspberry sorbet at the end of the meal! The service was impeccable and the vibe is super comfy and relaxed. I can't wait to go again!
Be the first to ReplyQuite nice, good food, good service, good wine.
Hard to grasp the concept the first time, ordered a lot of food not knowing the size etc, quite expensive.
Be the first to ReplyI never wanted to leave Ron Gastrobar.
Seriously, the food was so ridiculously good, we were desperate to come back the following night, but it would seem that I'm not the only one who loves this restaurant, so my dream of a second night of deliciousness was dashed.I won't list out what we ate, because we tried almost half the menu, but I can say that every single thing we had was fabulous. Cocktails were also spot on. Make sure to make a reservation well in advance!

This is a trendy restaurant in Amsterdam Centrum, part of a series by Ron. This one is an oriental style fine dining establishment. The decor is very tastefully done, and I enjoyed the artwork on the wall. We came as part of the Amsterdam restaurant week, the menu was a three course dinner. They have a good cocktail selection and it was fun watching the bartender as we sat at the bar. They start you off with shrimp crackers with their house made sweet chili sauce. For restaurant week they offered a 3 course meal for €30:Starter: a dim sum trio of shrimp, chicken and a wagyu beef steamed dim sum Main course: Peking style duck served with jasmine rice and steamed buns. The duck came with Duck breast, duck dark meat and crispy duck skinDesert: egg white custard with cashews and kumquat ice cream.Loved every dish, flavor and texture all done wonderfully. Everything was beautifully presented, service was on point with each dish explained in detail and suggestions of eating order to get the most out of it.Wonderful first experience with this place and I would want to come back to try their regular menu too.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service.
Amazingly, they kept the kitchen open late because we were running late. That would never happen in the United States. Waitress was exceptional and the food was very good. Particularly enjoyed the Peking Duck and the Buns. As well as drunken chicken salad. Very nice design of restaurant!

I love Ron's restaurants and last night we were craving Peking Duck. We tried it before at the Taste of Culture (hole in the wall kind of place, and it was great $35 for the whole duck, with the proper crispy skin and the lotus pancakes) anyway, we decided to try this place. There is a coat check at the entrance, which is such a great touch, we sat down and were offered some flavor enhancers (soy sauce, hot sauce, and pickles). We ordered two drinks: gin and tonic and the Oriental 2.0For food, we ordered: wagyu dim sum with bone marrow; half a duck and Ron's famous ribs. The dim sum was amazing! we got 4 pieces and it was just perfect. Rich, flavourful, unbelievable. The roast duck was good, served with buns (not my favorite way of eating the duck) and it was only two buns, so we ate the rest of the duck without them The Famous Ribs were not to my liking. The meat was boneless and so tender, but the meat was covered in the sweet and sour sauce so I couldn't taste the meat itself. With 10% tip we paid 100 euro for the dinner. Overall I decided that next time if I crave the pecking duck I will keep exploring, but If I am in the mood for the killing dim sum, this place will be my first choice. I wish I could do 3,5 stars.
Be the first to ReplyPretty trendy here.
I went with my Chinese friend so we were fully prepared to experience something that was too close to the original to be called "fusion", but maybe too far to be called "good". Couldn't have been more wrong about this place. In fact the only little incident we had in that vein was when the waitress explained to us with a straight face that "char siu" refers to "the way the pork is sliced" in China... we almost burst out laughing. Seriously, anyone could look this up and know that this was not correct. Why the chef or manager (who I'm sure she got that from) would tell her to say something like that without first looking it up I have no idea. "Fork roast" people... it literally means "fork roast".Anywho... amazing chicken wings- extremely creative. Amazing drinks (I've already stolen some of their variations on the classic G&T). Absolutely amazing duck! So pricey but so, so good. And don't get me started on that wagyu, beef marrow dumpling. You shouldn't miss that bad boy...All-in-all, great fusion, pan-Asian food. Well done guys...

My boyfriend and I came here for an anniversary dinner date on a Sunday. We made a reservation online in fear of it being busy. We walked in and they have a coat check at the door for free, very convenient . The restaurant wasn't too busy, perfect atmosphere, great for a date night! The restaurant is a small plates menu, completely sharable. We ordered oysters, dim sum, and 3 small plates. All items were hot, fresh and delicious! Would definitely go back!

HAd dinner here several times and it has always been great in a good atmosphere. The staff is very helpful and the food very tasty. The peking duck is excellent and the dim sum is high quality
Be the first to ReplyWe had dinner here first night in Amsterdam.
Small plates, so we shared 6, 3 cold and 3 hot. Everything was delicious, especially the cabbage salad and beef with mushrooms. Dishes are 15 and there's dim sum, but we didn't have that. Ambiance is nice and service friendly.
Be the first to ReplyThe duck is fantastic.
Cool location and well situated in Amsterdam. Great spot for small or somewhat larger groups. Seats at the bar or at the kitchen are great locations to watch the kitchen. Bartenders were helpful and attentive.
