Very good food and service! Frost might in Portafino and we did well with this choice.
Be the first to ReplyWe dined at Puny on a Wednesday night.
Our reservation was originally for 8:30 but we bumped it up to 7:30 because we had just flown in to Italy that day and were super tired. The restaurant opens at 7:30 so it was pretty dead when we were seated but the ambiance really kicked into gear around 8/8:30. The outdoor seating area has a wonderful view of the harbor and is in a great location. For dinner I had the Pappardelle Portofino which was good but I was expecting it to be more pesto forward and less of a cream sauce. My husband started with the pesto pasta and got the veal with lemon juice which was delicious. Definitely recommend this restaurant, but be sure to make a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyHands down one of the best restaurants I have ever visited.
Their Pappardelle Portofino is out of this world. Just make sure you get a reservation. Walk ups rarely get a table. Enjoy. We did.

We thought all the restaurants by the waterfront would be mediocre and touristy but took a chance on this from yelp. The staff was helpful and got us a highchair for our baby and brought out plastic kiddy cutlery. The prices were on par with the other restaurants around. We had the Papparadelle Portofino which is a tomato and pesto sauce mix and it was delicious and a highlight. My husband had spaghetti Vongole which he often gets and he said this was the best so far having a good clam flavour throughout. Great view and great food. We would return and recommend.

Despite its ridiculous name, you can depend on good food here. The fish is, of course, delightfully fresh. The pastas are excellent. The view of the lovely port from the restaurant is superb. Pray you don't happen to be there when a cruise ship docks. This tiny port is quickly overwhelmed and its charm is entirely consumed. Our waiter was entertainingly haughty. He insisted on speaking 'English' even though we were happy to speak Italian. He overheard us laughing a bit about the name of the restaurant and so he approached the table and told us,all knowingly, that 'puny' means 'small' in English. Someone clearly did not do their homework when naming that restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyMy family and I have been traveling throughout Europe and
My family and I have been traveling throughout Europe and Italy for many years and we have never received such terrible service and disrespect. Italy is known for having superb restaurant experiences with exemplary respect towards their customers but much to our disappointment, this restaurant did not exhibit any of this but worse. 1) SEATING: We asked to sit at an open table for three closest to the port with a view. The restaurant was not busy and there was no question as to whether we had made reservations. They immediately told us no--without providing any explanation or similar option. Even after asking the man why we couldn't sit there, he just pointed away. Instead, they move us back to a different table. Then as we're sitting down, the owner decides we should be moved back another table towards the rear and further away from the scenery-- the reason we chose to eat there to begin with. My father uses a cane, and is clearly less mobile so by asking us to sit down and stand up several times was not only insensitive to us as hungry customers, but also to my father as a disabled customer. The servers noticed how inconvenient it is to move us again so we remained in our second option; and yet, in spite of this decision made by the waiters, I still had to listen to the owner complain about our "insistence" on staying. I ended up eating my first course meal with the owner staring angrily at me--no respect no peace to eat. Later another group of three sits at the spot we asked for without issue or question. 2) YELLING: My mom orders the Pesce Verde. I order the Carne. When my mom finishes the meal she decides she wants a taste of the meat. She cuts herself a piece and places it on the rim of her finished dish. All hell broke loose. The owner began yelling at my mother for eating a piece of meat on an empty plate that previously had fish. I am aware of cultural differences and Italian rules of etiquette and eating, but our quaint afternoon lunch at this seemingly casual fine dining restaurant turned into an experience of being yelled at and disrespected. 3) The owner can see that we are unhappy but cannot understand why, so he speaks to our waiter, asking him who we are and where we come from. Our family is bilingual American--Spanish and English--and I am conversational proficient in Italian--enough to understand the owner's rants about us. The owner is quick to stereotype who we might be since we speak Spanish but at this point, why should that even matter? From the start we didn't feel welcomed. I had yelp out on my phone ready to write about my first experience and then experiences 2 and 3 occurred. The waiter covered our entire meal, which should be telling how terrible our experience and treatment was. In the end, not having to pay for our meal was meaningless, we felt utterly disrespected from our entrance to the exit of the restaurant and we would never wish this on anyone else. How was the food? Well what can you expect from a restaurant on the coastal port of Portofino? Of course it was tasty, but there are many other great restaurants in the area and they most likely have much better service and respect towards their customers.

Beautiful location, fantastic wait staff, and the Pappardelle pasta in red and green sauce is amazing! On top of all that the owners are so cute you just want to give them hugs every time you see them.

So glad I'm here in the spring, we were able to walk in right when they opened! The inside of the restaurant is pretty small, and there's two separate rooms, but I'm sure they take advantage of the outside seating in the summer. I can't even think of where to begin... The service was great, the food was amazing, and the owner himself came to chat with us... I pointed out a picture asking if it was him and he started pointing out all of his family members on there. There's nothing better than a family owned restaurant you know the owners are proud of. I can really see why this place is packed in the summer. I wish I was staying here for much longer so I could eat here every day!!I had the spaghetti with clams, which were so soft I was in heaven, you could just taste how FRESH they are. Completely different from the frozen ones you get at the grocery store, I don't think I could ever even bring myself to eat those again... I asked for a recommendation of a light red wine and that was perfect as well. Finished off with a lemon sorbet with some vodka and strawberry blended together. What can I say other than I loved it?? I feel so lucky to be able to eat at a place like this. It's really a dream come true.EDIT: Also got to try the other restaurants in the area. Yep, this place was the best.

One of the most popular restaurants in Portofino that requires a reservation weeks in advance during the summer season. We had dinner here tonight and were given a lovely table over looking the port. We shared the Puny Papperadelle in a vodka sauce that they refer to as a tomato basil, as well as a spaghetti with mini octopus that was perfectly al dente. For our entree we ordered the sea bream for two baked in salt. It was so tender and delicate, covered with a local olive oil. The service was very personal. To end they offer some of their lemoncello. To sit here, and overlook the lively port is a true pleasure. You're sure to be surrounded with interesting people from all over the world.
