Red Rooster at the Woodstock Inn & Resort Reviews from The Last Year
The Inn is lovely and special, the restaurant not so much.
Seats were this weird half booth, where we directly faced the couple next to us. Couple in second seating were lovely and struck up a conversation - first seating almost acted like we interrupted their private dinner. Weird. Server Anna was disinterested; never went over the specials, somewhat inattentive and slow. Lamb was supposed to be M/R; it was bloody. I don't want to be overly critical, but for how lovely the Inn is, the restaurant felt like a "caricature of Vermont", almost like an upscale Cracker Barrel. Next time in Woodstock, skip the Rooster and go to Simon Pierce.
This restaurant is not a must visit like you'd expect from
This restaurant is not a must visit like you'd expect from the lack of reservation space, but that being said, it wasn't bad. Appetizers: Beet salad was delicious, tuna crudo was lacking flavor, but portions were way too small (I get it, fancy restaurant, blah blah blah). Also to charge $10 for completely bland and boring rolls, that I'd probably pass on if free, is a practice they should end (steer clear). The entrees were a step up thankfully. Pasta was delicious, chicken and hog chop was equally tasty. Nothing really stood out as outstanding though. One major complaint is that everything was either way over salted, or completely unsalted. Portions were average thankfully (I was a bit concerned based on the appetizers). We shared a Vermont maple cake for dessert, now that was outstanding! Delicious warm cake with perfect crispness player perfectly with the pecan ice cream. Drizzled with maple syrup. Simply perfect and the only memorable part of the meal. Service was very good and professional.
The Red Rooster is the high end restaurant at the high end
The Red Rooster is the high end restaurant at the high end Woodstock Inn in Woodstock VT. The atmosphere of the hotel lobby and entry way into the eatery is classy New England. The food and service are both excellent, but you'll need to bring your wallet. In December 2023 the pre-fix three-course meal was $75 before taxes, fees and tip, BUT it was also delicious. The beat salad was light, sweet and tasty. The tenderloin was baked to pink perfection and the dessert was also extremely good.
Outstanding restaurant!
We came here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner while staying the Inn. The food and service were outstanding! We particularly enjoyed the breakfast each morning.
all in all..really good!
really nice: nice setting; terrific service; very good food. cheese course, beets and chicken mosse..all really good! - pork overcooked!
Picture Perfect Patio Dining
My husband and I had a fantastic meal on our first evening while staying in Woodstock, VT. It was a beautiful fall day so we decided to dine on the patio. Apparently everyone else thought it was too cold so we had the entire area to ourselves. My husband had a Mojito & I love wine so I decided to try the Opus One sample. The Mojito was excellent. To be honest I was disappointed with my $45.00 2 oz pour of the Opus One. I love a full body wine and the Opus One was just not for me but at least I got to sample. My husband had the watermelon salad for his appetizer and I had the Gazpacho. Both were excellent. For our entrees my husband had the Pork Chop and I had the Sea Bass. Both entrees were well prepared, very fresh and tasty. For dessert my husband had the Funky Monkey and I had the Peach Mousse. Our waiter was Andres and he was friendly and attentive.
Best Meal on My Vermont Trip
The Red Rooster provided the best meal on my Vermont bus trip! Of course, when we walked in on the street there is the inevitable "Do you a reservation? and "Are you staying at our Inn?" We were directed to the bar since we could say yes. I assume the many open tables we saw can be attributed to lack of servers. Nevertheless, the bar tender was engaging even though he gave us the wrong drinks. Quickly corrected! I had an outstanding Cabot cheese grilled cheese sandwich minus items which I don't eat. It was accompanied by a tomato pumpkin soup. I wasn't going to eat the soup as I'm not a fan of tomato but this was spectacular. So tasty, warm, and filling on a raw day! All garnished with a a pickle. My companion enjoyed her sandwich and was able to get a substitution on her soup. Service was a little slow and it was a pricey lunch but well worth it. The bar has hooks for your handbags which is always a nice feature. I won't forget the Woodstock Inn. Love to dine there again and even stay there.
Romantic date-night restaurant
We came here for dinner one of the nights that we were staying in Woodstock. Let me start of by saying The Woodstock Inn was beautiful! We couldn’t get a reservation because it was full (I believe due to a wedding) but I would definitely choose to stay here if I came back to Woodstock. The restaurant had a similar decor to the rest of the hotel. Great ambiance and the staff was fantastic. Food was really good too. We started off with the crudo for an appetizer, I had the cod of an entree and my boyfriend had the pork dish. All were super tasty and the presentation was wonderful. The highlight though was my pumpkin crème brûlée which was served in an actual pumpkin. So good!
The wait for food was absolutely ridiculous both times I
The wait for food was absolutely ridiculous both times I ate here. For a high end restaurant with price gouging- they need to do much much better.
They don't serve if you don't stay in their hotel .
Bed News. Whocares, if you don't want us we don't want you
$$Breakfast
The breakfast buffet has fruit, yogurt with all the fixings, oatmeal, eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, mini-pancakes, biscuits, sausage and bacon. They also have various pastries and bagels. The buffet offers a good variety. Our room package included the breakfast buffet. I would not have gotten the breakfast buffet if I would have had to pay. I think it was $30/pp.
Worth seeking out as you visit Woodstock.
Hospitable and efficient service from Riley. Beautiful porch table. Delicious drinks and food. A very pleasant surprise!
