Rampila Restaurant Il-Belt Valletta Reviews from The Last Year
Manager lied about the tap water
This review would have been 4 stars but the manager told us the tap water would make us sick and sold us 2 bottles of still water. Not a big deal, but don't like dishonesty. Based on this lie, you can Google how safe the water is in Malta to drink, I lowered the score to 2 stars. We started with the beef carpoccio and goat cheese appetizers. Both were really good. The salmon, rabbit, sea bass, and crab and lobster ravioli were all good. The house red wine is excellent.
Ruined night
What a shame this lovely place gives preference to smokers. We had a table booked this evening and had to leave as was sat by the smoking area. There’s no way we could have eaten a meal by the smokers who had no regard for other diners. We did ask for another table but they only had them inside. We politely refused and leave now very disappointed by the lack of thought this restaurant showed to their diners. If you’re a non smoker avoid. (This was our second visit and last of the holiday ruined)
Pretty dining terrace with view over the Gorge to the Bridge.
We spotted this place from the bridge as we walked into Valletta from the Fountain so decided to try it. We hadn't booked but after a little wait they managed to find us a table outside with the view across the Gorge back to the bridge. We had the Ravioli and the Argentinian Tagliata - both were good and we enjoyed a bottle of Primitivo with it aswell. I don't think we made it to desserts. Our waitress was lovely and it was a nice dining experience on a pretty terrace with that view.
A gem
This is a little gem. The food and service excellent. Recommend an excellent craft beer for my husband. I’m only sorry that we didn’t find it earlier on our trip. It is a little difficult to find but well worth it. Thank you for a lovely evening
Do not miss
We celebrated my friends birthday at this amazing hidden gem. Hard to find but worth it . Service was amazing and the food delicious. Absolutely the best meal we had in the week we spent in Malta and Gozo. Highly recommend this restaurant
Outstanding lunch
Fabulous food , excellent service beautiful views would highly recommend you try here it's outstanding we will definitely be going again when we next visit beautiful Malta
Poor service
The food was good, the attatude of the staff was disrespectful. My group was asked to pay for water as we had " had one glass" already. I did not drink the wine and when i was told the water was extra I decline. My group was followed out to the street and harrassed to pay for water I did not consume. Very poor attatude. I paid and promised to post a bad review.
Wish I’d known about this place sooner
Just an excellent experience for a late lunch ! Loved everything from the location, to the employees, their selection of wines and specials. I had a delicious meal of calamari’s with squid ink and hubby had lobster and crab ravioli in a delicate sauce. Finished it off with a chocolate fondue - outstanding! The wait staff were amazing.
Truly Dissatisfied
This restaurant might have gotten a completely different review from me if not for one particular event. As I walked into the restaurant, and went down to the bar as no one welcomed me in. I was greeted by a woman with a very rude tone who did not even bother to say hello, she just said “Can I help you?!” I told her me and my group had a reservation where we mentioned we would like to be seated outside. She told me there was a table outside where we can seat but that we should have selected a different thing on the reservation even though we did mention it and there was nothing else to select. I don’t know what her problem with me was but all night she walked around our table throwing me the most disrespectful looks. The issue was the complete rudeness and lack of respect towards me with which this woman spoke to me and looked at me. I felt disgusted with her tone and behaviour towards a client. All I can say is this ruined to entire experience for me. Asides from this, the food and wine was good but my entire night was ruined from the start.
Disappointed. Has potential to be a great gastronomic destination.
Recommended by our hotel and others due to its unique dining experience being in a vault setting. Due to the wind, we decided to sit inside, which has a great ambience at night. Unfortunately, the service was poor. There were an ample amount of the waiting staff standing to the side not doing much even though there were plates to be removed from other tables/ wanting drinks. There was an obvious issue with service. I could hear other tables mention how long they have waited. One guest had to go down to the other end of the vault to ask for salt. Seems the only member of staff that was proactive was the manager who was clearing plates, delivering drinks, etc. We ordered the Chicken Liver Parfait to start. It was OK but nothing special. For main we both ordered the Crab and Lobster Ravioli. I like my pasta al dente, but this was undercooked. Pasta was too thick, and the sauce had no flavour. When raising our issues over the main, we were offered a replacement. We declined, as we waited so long for our mains that I didn't want to wait another half hour. We didn't stay for pudding as the previous two courses gave us an impression that it would be underwhelming. We were given complimentary limoncello before leaving. This place has the potential to be great but lacking in detail, from the food to the service.
Pleasant setting. Nice food but nothing special.
The setting is very pleasant. The presentation of the food was lovely. We had calamari to start which was tasty.my risotto was drenched in a sauce which so me and my daughter did not enjoy it. My husband liked his dish. The cheesecake dessert was okay, nothing special. Overall, it was a nice dining experience but don’t expect to be Wowed!
Amazing
Absolutely amazing food, service was excellent, not cheap but worth every penny, the duck was divine best I've had in a long time
Badly prepared food in a lovely setting
The setting was lovely and the menu tantalising. We four plumped for three crab and lobster ravioli in a prawn bisque and the pumpkin risotto as starters. The pumpkin risotto was excellent - we all had a taste. And it was hot. Not so the ravioli which was cooked just a little too al dente but most importantly was swimming in a tasty but lukewarm and in parts cold sauce. In came the mains. Duck breast - beautifully pink but lukewarm, chicken supreme - lukewarm , roast pork with pickled apples - overcooked, dry and cold. The salmon fillet served to the friend who had ordered the risotto was hot, straight from the pan and perfectly cooked. There was no point in asking for the food to be heated - the duck would then have been well done, the chicken dry and the pork inedible. I suspect one friend would have been left eating the salmon alone. This is always the dilemma in these circumstances. This was potentially a great meal in what is potentially a very good restaurant. It’s obvious what happened the chef preparing the risotto and salmon left the other dishes on the pass whilst finishing them. These comments are intended to be helpful and I hope that they are taken in that spirit.
Wow so good!!!
We had soup, squid and rabbit, as well as veal with artichokes, tiramisu and unstructured cannoli. Everything was very good. Personally I give the rabbit a score of 20 out of 20. The setting, the attentive service, the price and the quantity are very correct. Really worth doing!
Ok experience
The spot was amazing, although a bit cold for dinning outside but we went in March so I guess this was expected. Food was good. No cocktail list in this restaurant.
Magnificent setting
Magnificent setting, we chose to eat a very good Maltese specialty soup. The staff is friendly and very competent. The price-quality ratio is honest.
Great experiences
A cozy place, well located in Valletta and off the beaten track. The perfect place where I come with some friends who come to see me in Malta. The service is still good, it could be better considering the type of restaurant but there are no complaints, only potential improvements The meal itself was good, there are a lot of restaurants and competition in the capital but I will give the meal an 8/10
Hidden gem.
If you happened upon this place in the street you might not be tempted in. The menu displayed looks a bit unimaginative and there is no real indication of the wonderful terrace setting tucked between the imposing walls of the city. The menu turns out to be much more extensive and bold. My duck with feta and chocolate was perfectly balanced and a real surprise. Service is attentive. Wines are reasonably priced. A great night out!
Suggestive
Classy restaurant, fantastic setting within the city walls. We had dinner both outside, which was fantastic, and inside. Good food, normal portions as were the prices. Classy
Great restaurant find!
Our party of 4 was delighted we found Rampila restaurant while rambling in Valletta. Great dinner menu selection and the dishes were well presented and appetizing. We each had different main courses and all were delicious. Professional, helpful and very pleasant staff, particularly our lady server who recommended an excellent red wine. Bill for 4 was approx 200eu including wine and bottled water. Good value for really good restaurant. The restaurant is tucked away down steep stairs on a side street but is very close to the City Gate entrance to Valletta. The evening was chilly so we sat indoors in cave like surroundings but there is a terrace too. Restaurant was busy on a Thursday evening.
Great location but...
Great location but apart from that, not recommended sadly. The food was mediocre at best. Mussels in wine sauce were very small and the liquor was so salty it was inedible. When we told the Maitre, she explained that mussels are salty...... She did offer to get us something else. The pork cheek ragu was tepid so I asked for it to be warmed up .Rabbit stew was plentiful but unremarkable. Overall, disappointing experience.
Great night out
What a wonderful hidden gem, it took us some time finding how to get into this beautiful restaurant having seen it from the walkway to the bus station! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent and both attentive and distant which is what we liked! We chose to eat outside and they put the heating on for us and politely left us to eat a wonderful ravioli and risotto. The price is reasonable but the experience was fine dining. Two meals, bread with dipping oil, bottle of wine and coffee was less than £60! Will come back
Rabbit is good and that’s all
Very nice view also service is good. But food is average… For me, rabbit was good and delicious but meat and ravioli were not. Meat was not soft and ravioli was too salty. We could eat better in an other restraurants when I consider the bill. Will not come again if I won’t eat rabbit which I can live without.
Not a restaurant I'd return to
I booked a table and was recommended the Terrace, which was pretty chilly. Food was nice/average but I was quite relieved to be able to leave. Sadly I don't think I'd recommend it as nothing stood out.
