QI Austin: Modern Asian Kitchen Reviews from The Last Year
Had a fantastic evening out at Qi in Austin.
This spot's got a great atmosphere - sophisticated yet relaxed, just the right setting for catching up with friends or enjoying a nice meal out. The Panang Curry was a hit, perfectly spiced and comforting, while the sushi rolls were fresh and innovative. What really stood out was the staff's friendly service; they knew their menu inside out and had spot-on recommendations. The drinks menu was impressive too, with some unique cocktails that paired well with the Asian flavors. Everything from the lighting to the presentation showed they care about the details. Definitely a place I'd recommend for anyone in Austin looking to satisfy their Asian cuisine cravings. Qi's got it all - good food, good vibes, and a memorable experience.
Wow! What a phenomenal experience.
This place gets all the stars. Elevated, flavorful, and memorable. All our dishes hit the spot! I will be coming back and trying more! I was hesitant about ordering the truffle fried rice because of all the mixed reviews so I was glad I loved it. Service was friendly and attentive and I loved all the decor and mood lighting inside. They have a great big patio facing 6th street for people watching!
My daughter treated her boyfriend and I to Qi Austin to
My daughter treated her boyfriend and I to Qi Austin to celebrate my 10 year work anniversary. This is the second of Chef Ling's restaurants we've tried. We're big fans of Lin Asian Bar + Dim Sum so we had high expectations of Qi. I wasn't expecting the restaurant to be inside an office building, but having such convenient on sight parking for a downtown restaurant was a serious plus. Walking into the restaurant was transporting because the interior contrasted completely with the surrounding building. The restaurant has warm wood finishes and fixtures that give a sense of being in a tea house or old fashioned study. The tables and chairs are heavy but comfortable. My daughter and I both noted that the chopsticks were really nice (I'd buy a few sets in a heartbeat). We took some time to decide on drinks and our appetizers. The waiter didn't seem to mind the delay. The food is served family style with rice being extra. This meant we could try more things. The first thing that came out were our Shanghai soup dumplings. They have tiny little bowls on the table to help you eat your soup dumpling which is incredibly useful because these are very juicy dumplings. They were the best soup I've had in Austin, even better than the ones I had at Lin Asian Bar. We each ordered the crab meat corn soup. I didn't get any crab in my first couple of bites, but noticed the crab flavor in the soup base. My next bite did have a large piece of lump crab meat that was perfectly balanced with the pop of corn. The pan seared basil chicken dumplings came out next we tried them both with and without the dipping sauce. To me, these thin-skin dumplings had a perfect combination of crisp and chewy with a subtle basil flavor. For our entree we ordered the Akaushi Beef and the Truffle Egg Fried Rice. The rice made it to our table first so we all took a spoonful to taste it and were surprised at the depth of the truffle flavor. We probably shouldn't have been since there was actual shaved truffle on top. And don't misunderstand me this was not the overwhelming can't get it out of your pallet truffle flavor. You sometimes get when somebody tosses truffle oil into some thing. This was a deep earthiness in the fried rice that elevated it to another level. I'm not entirely certain which beef dish we got because the names aren't ringing a bell and I know the one that we got had a type of honey in the sauce. Because when we ate some beef with a bite of the rice, all I could think was that the honey and the earthiness of the truffle were a great counter balance to each other. I want to experience Chef Ling's third restaurant but will probably make my way back to Qi to try more of the menu at this wonderful restaurant first.
Qi was so good and I always loved it.
You should try the egg fries rice and truffle mushrooms. It was so good and Dim sum too.

First of all there is parking! the atmosphere is great, vibrant yet relaxing. The service is terrific, quick and friendly and lastly the food is really good. I have enjoyed all the dishes we have ordered there. Not a bad thing on the menu.
Everything was sooo delicious! Very nice service and worth
Everything was sooo delicious! Very nice service and worth the $$$. Will definitely be back again! Tried the Singapore noodles and OMG! 10/10
Omg the Qi Soup Dumplingsssssss.
Yum yum and then some. Other A-mazing dish was the Honey Akaushi Beef. Literally so delicious I would eat it every night if I could. We also got a bottle of Austin Hope because it's the best wine. Great service from our waiter. I'm forgetting his name but he had braces or a retainer on? Cute young guy. He was very attentive. We ended with the cheesecake and that was good too. Can't wait to come back this is definitely my new go-to spot! We sat out on the patio which was honestly perfect. Inside seemed nice but a bit crowded so I think patio was the way to go .
Highly recommend!! Food is amazing service is top notch!
Highly recommend!! Food is amazing service is top notch! Ambiance is so chill!! Was in Austin for The Weeknd and went here twice! It was so good
10/10 AMAZING!!!! Best dim sum in Austin for sure.
Very comparable to Dim Sum in Singapore. Absolutely loved the honey beef dish we were recommended by our lovely server Chris and also the truffle rice. Delicious! You won't regret it!
Amazing food and excellent service.
The wait staff were so friendly and incredibly helpful. My new favorite
Felt attacked and ashamed by the server there, who gave us
Felt attacked and ashamed by the server there, who gave us (me and my friend) a big lecture after our meal about what is reasonable as a tip for the service I felt was not at all worth even tipping a single dollar. During our entire duration, we felt rushed into dining and got charged a pretty big chunky bill for just one starter & 2 entrees. Our experience has made us feel really regretful of dining there and will make sure will not dine in there ever again!
Though I am rating Qi Austin two stars, I will try my best
Though I am rating Qi Austin two stars, I will try my best to give a balanced review. Food: I ordered their xiao long bao, chicken potstickers, zha jiang noodles, mei choy pork belly, and hot and sour soup. The best dish was their xiao long bao... filling was savory with a hint of sweetness. It paired nicely with the vinegar sauce. On the other hand, the skin was thick, sticky, and wet... the skin on the chicken potstickers was the same. Unlike the xiao long bao, the chicken filling had no flavor. The zha jiang noodles was bland too. Noodles could've used some salt and the sauce needed more umami. Thankfully, their chili sauce added needed flavor. At first glance, the mei choy pork belly looked promising. Glazed in a savory gloss, the pork belly appeared succulent and tender. It was tender. The taste, however, was odd. While I complained their other dishes were bland, the pork belly had an intense flavor that pierced my head. My theory is that the bed of pickled vegetables underneath the meat caused the head-aching flavor. Hot and sour soup was okay. It was a bit oily though. A tad too much black vinegar. I will say the soup did warm our bodies from a day out in the cold. Service: Service was nice. They checked in on us from time to time, explained the menu, and packed our leftovers. Ambiance: A modern, classy feel. Restaurant was clean. Dim lighting aired a mature atmosphere. I also liked the red and black color scheme. Last comments: Unfortunately, I would not come back here again :( for a hefty price tag, the dishes did not merit a dent to the wallet. The blandness of certain dishes, disharmony of flavors, and doughy skin ... it was just not it. I may have came on an off day though. Based on the abundance of glowing reviews, it seems that the restaurant is pretty well liked. So don't let my singular experience sway you in the scenario you really want to try Qi Austin. Just keep expectations low, give it a try, and form your own opinion.
Great Service and Delicious Food!
My daughter had her heart set on soup dumplings and Lin Austin. When we couldn’t get into Lin Austin, the hostess went above and beyond to tell us about their sister location, Qi Austin, which was right down the street. She even called to reserve our table for seven. We were seated on the patio right away and our server made several recommendations for items to try. We ordered several items and were thrilled with them all….especially my daughter with the soup and lobster dumplings. Qi Austin was an unexpected delight and we will definitely be back.
Here or Lin is a must every time we are in town. Soup dumplings!
Soup or shrimp dumplings , combo fried rice w shrimp, pork and veggies .. delish. Beautiful rich environments and excellent service . Great restaurants in a city of good eats but not as much Asian as you would expect . Not to be missed
Mixed experience but willing to go again
This is a bit of a difficult review to write. The service was impeccable. The decor was cool. They have a nice variety of food and willingness to work with dietary restrictions. We were a larger group and ordered a lot, but the food itself was pretty mixed in terms of enjoyment. Some dishes were loved by the group (e.g. steamed soup pork dumpling) while others were not (e.g. honey beef was either not a good cut to start or wasn't prepared right, so was hard to eat). For the cost, we had higher expectations.
Horrible Customer Service!!!!!!!
I have been to this place many times and decided to bring my friends out for dinner and drinks. After two hours, a server came to our table and rudely told us that the next reservation would be there soon and we would need to leave the table and then turned around and walked away. There was never a warning and it could have been worded so differently and we would have understood. When I went to the manager, he could not even make eye contact or entertain my concern. I will never bring anyone there again!!!! With so many great restaurants in Austin, go to another that provides good customer service. Disappointed is an understatement!!!

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
