We love this restaurant! Always great food and great
We love this restaurant! Always great food and great service! Fish is fresh and menu is updated seasonally
Be the first to ReplyThis place is so over rated with one star.
The management has instituted policies as if its a top rated Michelin restaurant located in vibrant NYC. Additional fees here, additional fees there, additional fees everywhere! (Tips included for kitchen help, servers and a nonrefundable fee for a mandatory reservation.$$$$) The managers at the restaurant are rude, dismissive and unprofessional. Maybe at one time the adjoining farm stand/store was exceptional. However, the pickings are slim and it showcases most products you can purchase at Whole Foods, DeCicco & Sons, Balducci's and other speciality markets. The atmosphere in the restaurant is like a run down local pub, not upscale at all which you are definitely paying for. As someone else wrote, the food is not as good as it used to be. The only redeeming quality I experienced was the cheerful hostess. GO ELSEWHERE!!!!
Be the first to ReplyTo start, I love the old building.
It has a real sense of charm, beauty and history to it. With that said, it would probably serve better as a museum; considering the current state of the restaurant that occupy s this property. Smell: The smell outside is reminiscent of a baby's diaper. The plumbing here has to be as old as the building itself. I do not know to many people that wish to smell digested food while walking to their car - A good reason why North Salem should convert this into a historical preserve. It's a foul smell, and flushing those toilets is not helping... so that's the greeting one receives while making their way in and out of Farmer and the Fish. Now that we are inside (I can breathe). The hostess comes off rather as a spouse poacher. Good thing she only seats people - anything beyond that comes off a bit awkward. But at least the servers' will be more hospitable, friendly and knowledgeable right? Maybe they would be if they were not over worked or rushed? Its a restaurant with a farm but its hard to find out where my food came from which left me bit unsure if I was eating produce from Acme or produce from a farm- the servers did not have an answer for me. Is it me or did I not see multiple greenhouses by the parking lot (which smells foul)? We found dinner to be lacking. Gave me Twisted Oak (tarrytown) vibes. Uninspired and unremarkable. My scallop salad had 3 overly cooked, burnt scallops next to a bed of baby greens and spinach (those greens reminded me of the ones I get at Acme, in the plastic tins). Very overpriced. And clearly we like to pay for good food. We came to Farmer and the Fish after all. Very disappointed. On our way out we noticed the farm store was still opened so we checked it out. I can't remember the girl with pink hair's name but she was sweet but could tell she was uncomfortable being in this secluded store by herself. A man with an unkempt beard (i think there was food in it), fairly large size, and apparently he worked their, thank god. He left as soon as we walked in. Having anyone work by themselves next to an establishment were people are drinking could be dangerous. Why is this little girl in here by herself? The farm store did not offer anything other than confirm our suspicion that most of the produce in their restaurant I could get at Acme for half the price. Don't be fooled by the name - Everything on the menu is grocery store to table. Will I return here? Prolly not.

Everything was generally delicious. Bit pricey.
Be the first to ReplyIt is not worth what they're asking.
The food was very good, fresh, original and in ample portions. It's overpriced, which I could totally justify if the rest of the experience was actually pleasant. Unfortunately, any enjoyment of the meal was lost to the environment. They have packed a small space with far too many tables. As a result, the dining room is cacophonous, straining casual conversation and making it hard to communicate with staff. Servers regularly bump into guests and each other. It's difficult to get in and out of seats without disturbing the people beside you, and the wait for the bathroom is often two or three deep. Our bill ran $100 per person, (including oysters and wine) and the experience was most definitely not worth that. A friendly caution about the parking lot: it's a mud pit. It needs to be paved. Even if there's some prohibition (given that it's a historic building), it needs to be filled in and evened out with some sort of drainage to address snowmelt. Don't wear heels - you'll be walking like a baby deer.

The food is definitely not as good as it used to be, it's still ok... just not as good. The ambiance is nice and the servers are friendly, the seaters can use a personality makeover. Also, very expensive for the quality and portion of food served.

New to Ridgefield I asked neighbors and new friends where they suggested to go for a great, near by dinner. Purdy's Farmer and The Fish is consistently recommended and it did not disappoint. The building oozes charm and the little store behind is delightful. The dark haired bartender Danny especially won my favor by crafting a custom requested cocktail which was lovely!
Be the first to ReplyWe like this place a lot and go often.
Sometimes the servers are a little hit or miss personality wise but the food is good and the ambiance what it is when you're looking for warm, cramped and rustic. They have shoved in a few too many tables and for that I take my one star deduction. If you haven't been give it a try.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place.
Everything on the menu is consistently good and I enjoy it very much. The service is always great and sitting by the fire is always comfortable.
Be the first to ReplyThe first time I at at Purdy's farmer and the fish was two
The first time I at at Purdy's farmer and the fish was two years ago (2021). I have since returned expecting the same lovely experience between the food and ambience. The restaurant has been on the michelin guide for quite some time now, and I have expected them to earn a star by now. However, after eating there last night it is quite apparent why they have not earned that star. Ordered the scallop salad, which I was quite excited to try, and the scallops were way over seared to the point of being burnt. Not to mention the high price point for a salad only to find three tiny scallops. Next I got the linguini and clams, once again for a moderate price point, only to have taken my first bite and realize I could've done much better making it at home for half the price. The sauce was under salted and lacked acid. Bummer. Next was dessert, the menu didn't have much appealing choices so I stuck to a classic, chocolate ice cream. I thought for $10 the ice cream would come with some sort of whipped cream or syrup, but no. $10 for a simple single scoop of regular ice cream. I bet the pint wouldn't have even been $10. Never the less if the food lacks, maybe the service or ambiance will make up for it. As our server was quite sweet, there was no real attempt of conversation or discussion even a quick information about where and how the food we ate was harvested or farmed. As it is Farmer and the fish. I would've greatly appreciated a little bit of knowledge about the restaurant and the ethics behind the farming. All in all, I am left $200 poorer and not as satisfied as I know this restaurant could've made me.
Be the first to ReplyQuality seafood priced fairly.
Took a client to lunch here last week and they were packed. Always a good sign. We started with the crab cake served over picked onions and slaw. Everything was fresh and had a unique sauce which the chef put together. We then ordered the stuffed lobster and the big eye tuna for our entree. The seafood was delicious and high quality. The ambiance is certainly unique. The restaurant is in a historic landmark house from the 1800's. Very cool feel once you're inside. The only complaint (and this is nitpicking a bit) but the server asked that we order apps and main entree together, which we declined to do. We simply didn't want to be rushed. I would have given 5 stars had it not been for this.
Be the first to ReplyMet friends for dinner tonight.
Service was A+, food was amazing. Tuna to die for, the rice with ir was delightful. Bread pudding for dessert with homemade ice cream was without a doubt the best aId ever had and I'm a huge bread pudding fan! Perfect dinner!

Great Raw bar. And beer specials.
Be the first to ReplyFood is amazing; service extraordinary.
Relaxed setting. Drinks are good. Very pricey.
Be the first to ReplyCharming historic building built in 1775.
Came for lunch and sat near the toasty fireplace. Amazing bread was brought out and husband started with clam chowder. Said it was one of the best he's had. I had shrimp & grits with 2 enormous shrimp and a delightful blend of veggies in the grits. Husband had fresh tuna over spicy shrimp fried rice. He loved it. Dessert was a disappointing apple cobbler, served cold! Server removed from check without my asking. Although pricey, I Would love to go back for dinner.

Great place! Rustic and welcoming as its big open hearth ablaze with a roaring fire. *honestly we may have still come back even if the food was terrible... oh but the food was GOOOOD. Super service by out attentive server Matt who had drinks in our hand immediately. I loved the plum old fashioned. Started off with polenta fries and.. ohhhh... creamy on the inside, crunchy on the out- need I say more? Ended strong with an outstanding lobster roll (buttered, how it should be ) & found room for a latte. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. Tip- go on an off hour and stretch you stems xx-T
Be the first to ReplyIt's good; just always super crowded.
The menu is great- just been the same for some time; but I guess it works. Standards: scallop salad with egg and frisée, oysters, polenta fries. They had this lovely parsnip special., lol, beautifully plated! Expect to wait, even if you have a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyWe went on Saturday during lunch time without a reservation.
The restaurant was crowded but there were a few tables available and fortunately we didn't have to wait to be seated. The menu is very straight to the point, the entrees all include farm fresh veggies. The drink menu has some rare spirits of course for a price $$. The wait staff is very attentive. They started us out with fresh bread baked with a salted crust on top, served with a mixed butter spread. We had the Polenta fries which came with a spicy sauce on the side. Everything was delicious and came out hot and timely. Our meals came out looking like something from a magazine. I ordered the cedar plank baked salmon with rooted vegetables, our other entree was stuffed and roasted whole lobster served on a bed of broccoli raabe and white pinto beans. Overall everything was delicious and we enjoyed our meal and the whole dining experience. The food was very good, portions were nice size. I will definitely go back and I look forward to trying more items from the menu.
Be the first to ReplyFresh vegetables grown on the property.
The food is good, and the atmosphere of an old home adds to the ambience.

Be the first to ReplyLet me start by saying I love this restaurant.
We have been there many times for special occasions and have never been disappointed...until yesterday. We booked a table for lunch and had a nice table on the porch. My husband's son, his wife and grandchild were visiting and we thought it would be a special treat to take them there. We placed our order after a short wait. One appetizer was ordered and main meals. The oysters came after about 20 minutes....but then the time stood still. All the tables around us were getting their meals fairly quickly but we sat there with a plate of bread and a bottle of water for a full hour. My husband finally got up and found the waitress to see about our food. We asked if maybe there was a bit of fruit for the 2.5 year old while we waited and the server couldn't be bothered and seemed annoyed at the question. An hour and 10 minutes after we sat down we had two sandwich plates, a plate of pasta and salmon. It was not busy...so I don't believe this can be blamed on the kitchen. I'm not one to judge a restaurant by one bad day...and I hope to return to have the meals and lovely service that is usually the norm....but yesterday was hardly worth the $200.00+ bill. I wanted to leave complaint with the restaurant...but they have no way to contact them on their website.

Be the first to ReplyThis is a very special place for us.
Offers so many delectable selections. We utilize all of it from best eggs and myriad of high quality foods for take away. Their restaurant and food superb. Their outside seating and ambience transports one to a respite away from this topsy-turvy World at the moment. They want above and beyond during pandemic. Thank you
Be the first to ReplyFirst time diner.
I had the clam chowder and lobster roll. Absolutely delicious. So fresh. The place was hopping on a Monday night. Full house at 8:45PM. Standing room only at the bar.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here last night.
..GF's birthday (they didn't ask about special occasion)We were seated promptly on the porch as per the reservation.Drinks were good and served promptly.Half the oysters we ordered were excellent and the other were fishy tasting and had lots of shell in them...perhaps I chose poorly. The Radicchio salad was terrific. The bacon rib thing has way too much fat for me...I like fat, but this was like 80% fat, huge mouthfuls of nothing but fat. Great flavor profile on the edible parts. The tuna with shrimp fried rice was just okay for me. I found the shrimp fried rice to be really average and mealy. The tuna was fresh and a bit overcooked. The sauce is a little sweet for me.I ordered a strip steak medium rare and the first one was served medium well. I send it back and it was PROMPTLY replaced with ANOTHER medium well steak.I suppose that's why this is not called "Purdy's Farmer and the Steak".I decided to forego the steak.Desserts were pretty average/below average. I ordered an ice cream sundae which was served in a waffle bowl that was likely stored in the fridge since it was not crispy.Atmosphere is outstandingService was quite goodFood was disappointing/hit&miss - especially considering the price point.
