A short walk from the MTA, PUBLIC is a decent hotel for people who want to get the NYC hipster vibe without paying influencer prices. Located within walking distance of many rad little bars, cafes, and shops, so if the hotel bars don't impress, give the surrounding area a whirl. But try the downstairs bar's pisco sours first, especially when there's live music to accompany it. We stayed on one of the upper floors; furnishings were more than adequate. The bed was comfy, the shower was spacious enough for two, there were enough cabinets and under-bench space to keep stuff tidy, and the room was well-lit. It took me a little trial and error to figure out how to work the lights, but once I figured it out, things were fine. We appreciated the use of the oversized luggage lockers after we'd checked out--it made our last day far more manageable. Apropos of checkout, I will caution would-be guests not to attempt to check in or out via the app or lobby kiosks--each time we tried was unsuccessful, leading us to flag down a staff member to assist us. The hotel would do well to have more staff members in the lobby to assist--there was quite a line at the desk staffed by a single employee. Overall, though, our stay was enjoyable, and I'd consider staying there again (or even just grabbing a drink there).
