Best burger lunch on Long Island
The best hamburger on Long Island. Coupled with Luger bacon and tomato and onion. A great lunch. The service was excellent as was the tap beer

Melts in my mouth, the single steak. Must have the single so there are no fights over the bone. All mine. The onion rings are outrageous, no thick batter or breading, they are light and crispy. The creamed spinach is sooooo good. Itโs actually green, not white, thick, or pasty. Can pass up the strudel (we donโt) but canโt pass on the shlag. So yummy together. Looking forward to my next visit.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food warrants a good bar
We went to have a nice evening with family. The food was very good as usual. Wait staff was very attentive. The one big negative was the bar. I ordered a vodka gimlet with Grey Goose Vodka, Rose's Lime Juice and a splash of grapefruit juice. I have never had such a poorly made drink. They did not carry Rose's lime juice which I could not understand. The vodka they used was not Grey Goose and was terrible. It was just an awful drink. They need to update their bar.
Be the first to ReplyManager was rude, workers were no place to find.
We booked a table for two. When we arrived, the front desk manager told us to wait at the bar counter. There were two bars; one is a small one and the other is a big formal bar. The manager did not lead us to the bar he mentioned so we wait at the small one. After a while the manager came said loudly: I told you to wait at the bar, not here! Food was OK. When we pain in cash, there was no one to take the payment. That alone made us wait for another ten minutes. This restaurant does not take credit cards, cash or bank checks only, quite rear.

What a disappointment! The medium-rare steak for 3 was tough, fatty and lacking in taste. The creamy spinach side was sour, the German potatoes mediocre. The restaurant hasn't been remodeled for 40 years. How far the mighty have fallen!
Be the first to ReplyGood steak, a bit over rated
We went there because of all the hypes written about this place. Yes, they have good steak, but I will not go all the way for that. There are better steak place around. Note: They do not take credit card.
Be the first to Replyover priced and nothing special
Five of us went for dinner this past Sunday. It was a graduation celebration for my grandson's college graduation. First let me say there are better steakhouses with better prices where I live in New Jersey. Valet parking was a big plus. Service was outstanding food in my opinion did not rise to the prices. This was a "one and done" for me.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed in the quality of the food served!
We ordered our porterhouse "medium" , it arrived very undercooked- rare and quite " veiny", hard to cut! The hash browns were ordered well done, but arrived mushy and almost tasteless! For the price, the food should be outstanding and it was not even close! Very disappointed!

Peter Lugerโs is the place we go for special occasions. We love the service. The waiters are always very attentive. Of course, the steak is always perfect!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Neck > Williamsburg
Much better than their original location in Brooklyn. Had been going for years and finally decided to give their original location in Williamsburg a try and was completely disappointed. This is hands down the best steak house I've been to. Can't compete with it.
Be the first to ReplyBorn and raised in NYC, never had a more terrible experience in my life.
Im going to keep it as real as possible with yall and I dont go out and eat much but when I do, I like to splurge. I heard Peter Luger's was ok, I heard they were great, so we went out for my boy's dinner because I like to decide for myself.
I do not post because I feel like it doesnt matter but for those of you really reading these posts; let me tell you a story, first time dining here, last time 100% because I really feel violated especially being born and raised in NYC.
Booked a table for 5 at 8:45pm for a friend's birthday.
When we arrived, 10 mins earlier just in case, we were told that there was two tables ahead of us.
25 minutes passed, still two tables ahead of us while new parties entered and received tables before we did.
It is 9:15, still two tables ahead of us, more people came asking for tables and receiving wait times.
It is 9:30, patrons that were walk ins already were sat.
Almost closing soon, we finally received an attitude from the host who looks like Ken Griffin from Citadel who finally tells us our table is almost ready.
Seated at 9:40, our waiter was pleasant and apologized for the host because even he knew we were waiting for over an hour.
The host is walking around greeting other tables while he ignored us.
When we finished dinner, as were leaving to no good byes and thank yous but instead looked at crazy, maybe because were wearing masks?
BTW, did I mention we were asian? I know i know, it might not be that, but being the only asians there and the way were treated, can you blame us? It is NYC.
We did tip appropriately, 20%, because it is not the servers fault that host and the manager treated us differently from everyone else, the actual service was great, steak cooked properly, sides were cold; way over-rated for the price. I have never been so violated from an establishment in my life, I was so tight that I couldn't even enjoy my food.
If you are concerned about Covid and guidelines, DO NOT GO HERE. No one in here wears masks, no pass needed, and its elbow to elbow full. I literally felt people breathing on me where I had to wait outside for a bit. (Im Neutral)
They are a more expensive Ruth Chris, but Ruth is much better. Just go to Keen's or even Texas Roadhouse, at least I've never had a terrible experience there. Overall garbage.
TLDR;
1. The actual service was good.
2. The host and manager are terrible, disrespectful, and very unprofessional. Drinking behind the bar, ignoring customers, and just pleasing friends instead of focusing on business.
3. No masks/vaccine card needed for those of you were did not get vaccinated.
4. Steak was good, sides were decent, over-rated, go to Keen's in the city instead, their mutton chop is to die for.
Good steak, but the highlight was the apple cobbler and schlag.
Went for Thanksgiving lunch with family, but only dinner menu was available. Ordered steak for 2 and lamb chops w/Caeser salad. Coffee and apple cobbler with schlag for dessert. The service was good. Not intrusive, but any time we wanted anything, our waiter was there within seconds and was polite. The steak was good. Not amazing, but good. The lamb chops were the same. Pretty good, a little too much salt, but nothing to write home about (as I've seen some of the reviews raving about the chops). The Caeser salad was somehow flavorless. We didn't order sides as we always overeat at Lugers.
However, as this was the first time ordering it, the apple strudel with schlag was beyond good. I'm in my fifties and I cannot remember tasting a better desert in my lifetime. Don't know if maybe they just made the perfect one or if this is typical of their strudel. Perfect sweetness, perfect soft where it should be, perfect sweet crunch where it should be.
I can't say if it's a good thing that the best part of the meal at a renowned steakhouse was the dessert, but it absolutely was.
EXPENSIVE!
first time here...better than Gordon Ramsey steak in Las Vegas. Service better. Steaks excellent, as is ceaser salad , apple strudel dessert. and onion rings. No credit cards, CASH ONLY, which makes me think Pauly Walnuts is involved...

Donโt listen to these negative reviews. These people are not in the know. Been going for 50 years, starting in Brooklyn and now LI. Best steak in NYC. Not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyCosta has a bad attitude!!!
My husband and I have been going to Peter Lugers in Brooklyn for 35 yrs. and we love it. But since the pandemic we decided to go to Lugers in great neck. I made a reservation for 8 ppl at 6:45. When I got to the restaurant at 6:35. They informed me that they gave away my reservation because they called me at 4:00 to confirm and I didnโt answer the phone. They DID NOT LEAVE A MESSAGE! !!!
So of course I was upset and asked ok so now how long? And the manager Costa laughed and said he couldnโt Guarantee he could seat us. I was very very upset. Every time he would walk past us I would ask how much longer and he would Smirk at me so after 1hr 40 min of waiting we all left and went down the block to Mortonโs steak house and had a wonderful dinner. I actually think the steak was better then Lugers. I definitely would recommend anyone going to Peter Luger great neck if they donโt want to get abused.
Such a reasonable priced burger
I have come to really love Peter Lugers cheeseburger to go. $18 for the burger but Iโm always adding cheese and the thick cut bacon for a few bucks more. Love the Peter Luger sauce and chocolate coins they throw in. Cannot remember if they used to give me fries too. I thought they did but I could be mistaken. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Be the first to ReplyPorter House for four
Took my family to Luger for Father's Day lunch, They did not disappoint . Very nice wait staff. I enjoyed the Great Neck location better than Williamsburg. Its nothing personal their wait staff might feel rude but Luger is a extremely busy place. They might not receive a Michelin star. But the steak is the reason you come here.
Be the first to ReplyJust Go!
We always go to the restaurant in Williamsburg but since it is shut down due to the pandemic, we decided to finally try Great Neck and we were not disappointed.
The ambiance is not quite as rustic but still nice. The food is the same which means excellent. We go with the kids and get 2 porterhouse steaks since we have different tastes and just share. We also order 2 baked potatoes which are plenty and 2 creamed spinach dishes and one order of onion rings - loads of food with leftovers to take home. We cap that with an order of cheesecake and the chocolate mousse pie with the shlag and they were scrumptious.
The waiter was attentive and not obtrusive and could anticipate our needs.
Most of the protocols were followed but the entryway and the bar area were not socially distanced so steer clear of that. Also do not wait for the valet for parking, you will be stuck in oncoming traffic so just park on the street.
We shall return!
Hamburger Heaven
First time eating a Peter Luger burger although I have dined at both the Brooklyn and Great Neck location on several occasions. The burger is a very good value for $18.95 without cheese or bacon. They are very accommodating for takeout and my food was available without any wait time even though it was a busy Friday night.
