Pequod's Pizza Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
One must acquire a taste for Chicago deep dish pizza.
Good sauce and plenty of cheese. Need to give it a try.

Always love bringing out of towners here for a taste of the best Chicago deep dish. Careful not to get too many toppings, I find it best to keep it simple-- we got half sausage + onion and half pepperoni.
We ordered delivery.
Food was still warm upon delivery. We had medium pepperoni and large cheese deep dish, salad, mozzarella sticks and garlic cheese bread. Pizza was delicious. It was so much food we ate it for a few days after. I'd eat the pizza again. Yum.

The best deep dish around! Service was great, ambience was perfect! Will definitely come again.
The butteriest, yummy deep dish pizza I've had.
It was a truly authentic Chicago pizza experience with a thoughtful waitress. Be prepared for a wait since the pizza is deep with caramelized edges to the point of being burnt but not so! If you want to really experience the essence of Chicago deep dish with an ambience to match - be sure to try Pequod's!
Pizza was great, better than most of the other popular
Pizza was great, better than most of the other popular pizza places like Lou's or Giordano's. The place itself is old, loud and pretty crowded (we sat upstairs in the back) I'll give the pizza a 4.6 but service, speed and atmosphere about a 3.5. Definately a must try.

We arrived 15 minutes early for our 8:30 reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress took our order and our salads and drinks were served soon after that. Then we waited on our pizza. And waited. And waited. And waited. Other groups seated after us were served and were finishing up. We were still waiting. Finally our waitress came to let us know that the kitchen had lost our order. Great. We were so tired and hungry so we decided to stay. Our waitress offered free drinks (we declined) and a free appetizer (we ordered cheese bread). She also told us we were having half the cost of our two pizzas comped. Not exactly a generous offer. And then we waited some more. And watched a table that ordered an appetizer after us get served and start eating their appetizer. And we waited some more. Somewhere around 10:05-10:10 our pizzas were finally delivered. And then around ten minutes later, the promised appetizer (why bother?) The waitress came back to check on how we liked our pizza and mentioned the half-off. I asked if that was the best the manager could do, so the waitress sent the manager to see us. The manager said that she just heard a little of what happened and asked us to fill her in. Then she offered to comp the two beers which was odd, since the five of us just had waters. So she took those off and we hinted that maybe they should do better, so she ended up comping the pizza. It was such a disappointing experience. Mistakes happen, although they couldn't explain that one. It could have been discovered and handled in a much more timely manner. And then the handling was even slow and sloppy. Ironically, we really enjoyed our salads and pizza. We had both a deep dish and a thin crust pizza. It's a shame that our overall experience was, at best, meh. There are lots of places to eat pizza in Chicago. We'll be trying another next time.
This is my absolute favorite place for deep dish.
(Even before it featured on "The Bear") I love the caramelized crust, loaded topping and perfect amount of sauce. The small is perfect for two people with good appetite. Service was prompt and they even helped us get situated at a better table.
Came by during a weekday for their lunch special.
It was pretty busy, but I was still able to be seated. The crust was so buttery and had a good crisp to it. Bummed that the lunch special doesn't come out in a deep dish pan, but it was still very good. Pepperonis were a little over charred. Even though it was only 7", the pizza was a lot for me. I couldn't even finish it. There so much cheese and dough, that it makes it very hearty. There was a person in front of me looking for a pie to go ASAP. Because Pequod's prides itself on quality, they gave him a pizza that was never picked up for free. They tell you that it takes 45 minutes for pies to be made when you order as well. You know you're getting a fresh pie.
pizza is delicious but ends there i would never want to
pizza is delicious but ends there i would never want to take friends to the establishment...so tired...run down
Garlic meatball sandwich
Garlic bread on our meatball sub was great. Pizza was cooked just right. We made an hour and a half detour to go to Pequod’s. We were not disappointed.
Very good pizza restaurant with good pizza
Very nice pizza restaurant! Even though this restaurant is short staffed its still has very good pizza. Th pepperoni pizza is my favourite. Probably one of my favourites in Chicago!
Pizzas fine but service not so great
Pizza was good - I especially like the sauce and the crusty “burnt” ends. It’s pretty much my favorite deep dish. Don’t love the experience. We ordered a couple small pizzas and one member of our party ordered chicken tenders. When the pizzas arrived, she did not bring the chicken. Finally tracked her down and asked about it. She played it off like she put the order in and said they would be ten more minutes. It was more like 15 minutes. It would have been fine had she been honest and told us she forgot to put it in or that the kitchen forgot. She did not apologize. We usually tip 20-25%. Not this time.
Good but not as good as NY Style
Extremely busy place. Reservations are a must. The service was good and food arrived quickly, We were a bit disappointed in the thin crust pizza. Reviews were very good and a local recommended it to us but although the sauce and cheese were very good. The crust was lacking. We are used to NY Style so may be why this didn't live up to our expectations.
BEST DEEP DISH
So happy to have found this spot! My fiancé wanted deep dish in Chicago for his birthday. When I saw the ratings on this place, I knew we had to try it. Wow! We loved everything about it. We had a medium cheese pan pizza. Next time we would definitely get the small, the medium was too big for us. We also had a half order of fries which were really good too. This place runs like a well-oiled machine, staff coming and going everywhere. Our waitress told us right away that the pizza would take around 45 minutes to cook and made sure we were okay with that. If you are in a rush, this might not be the place for you. But it was so worth the wait! Glad we were able to snag Friday night reservations as this place was packed. Highly recommend getting reservations! We will for sure make the trip back the next time we are in Chicago.
Great experience, true deep dish
Amazing pizza. I made sure to try deep dish when visiting Chicago and I’m glad my buddy took me here. I would go back in a heartbeat if I was staying longer. MAKE A RESERVATION. People were told sometimes 2-3 hours before they would be seated, and we went on a Wednesday at 630pm. We got deep dish, a salad to share, and fried zucchini. Meal was amazing.
Rated #1 for a reason
The pizza did not disappoint! It lived up to the expectation of the #1 rated pizza in the country! I am originally from Chicago and grew up on Chicago deep dish pizza. This was my first time here and I was impressed! Rachel was provided exceptional service which made the whole dining experience even better!
Chicago April 2024
One bite was all it took to proclaim Pequod’s the best deep dish pizza in Chicago I’ve had the other Chicago deep dish pizzas which are all very good and deserve their accolades but Pequod’s is better The cheese , sauce & crust combine in a tasty harmony that can’t be beat
Lovely manager and staff
Booked the right time at the wrong restaurant. Maree the manager was so helpful, despite the place being rammed found us a table. Victoria our waitress was also an Angel and looked after us all night.
Great pizza!!!
Amazing deep dish pizza! We enjoyed a sausage with favorite veges added pizza. Delicious! Crust is awesome! Location and service were great and the restaurant has plenty of seating! We enjoyed a sausage with veges added pizza. Delicious! Location and service were great and the restaurant has plenty of seating!
Went for lunch, 3 guests total.
First time here. Leaning more towards 4.5 stars. Got 3 personal pan pizzas and a combination fried appetizer platter to share. Was seated upstairs exactly at the time of our lunch reservation. Location: this place is bigger than expected, and i expected it to be packed, but it wasn't even half full. 2 floors. It was classic old school pizza place meets sports restaurant. This would be a great place to watch a blackhawks game for sure. Booth seats were a bit worn (sinking in too far when you sit down) and could use replacing but in general all was clean and neat. Service: all staff members we interacted with were great, smiles, professional, they were quick on their feet and properly attentive to taking our order and serving us. TY Food: Appetizer platter was good, portion size could be a bit larger, but was served hot, crunchy and flavorful. none of that old oil taste or texture here. Pizzas were yummy, sauce was great. The first bite of the dark crunchy cheese around the edge was a bit worrying, but after a couple bites I was really enjoying it. It looks like burnt cheese around the edges, but I will tell you this is done the right way at pequod's and it adds to the flavor of it all together. Would I say it's the best pizza in Chicago? Probably not. Is it good, yes. Will I go back, yes, but no need to run back there super soon. But probably for dinner with a few friends to watch a hawks game and give a full size pizza with more toppings and some other menu items a shot.
Here's a revised version of your review: A friend
Here's a revised version of your review: A friend recommended this pizza spot to us, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 11:30 am, and the place was packed. We ordered wings and a deep dish pizza. While I'm not usually a fan of deep dish, I was willing to give it another chance at this place. We opted for pepperoni and Italian sausage on our deep dish. The wait wasn't too long, and when we finally got our pizza, I was disappointed. It lacked cheese, sauce, and was overly burnt on the edges. When I asked our waitress about it, she explained that it's how their deep dish is prepared, with the edges coated in burnt cheese. This style didn't win me over, and I prefer my thin slice New York style pizza. I was very disappointed with the overall taste, as it felt more burnt than perfectly cooked. Although we may have gotten a bad pie, I would still recommend to friends and family. If I come back to Chicago, i would try another local pizza spot. Additionally, I ordered a margarita, but it was poorly made and watered down. They also don't provide any fruits for your beverage, like orange, lemon, or lime, due to concerns about fruit flies.
2024 update! We can get delivery now.
Treat yourself! You won't regret it! Always the best and we have never had a bad pizza here.
The pizza was good.
We tried the first weekend they were named the best pizza in the country. I personally enjoyed the crust. The kids enjoyed the thin crust cheese. I definitely would recommend trying it out.
This was my first experience with deep dish.
Placing the online pickup order was easy. Pick up was smooth, just make sure you have your digital receipt. The pizza had great flavor, but not enough cheese and way too bready.
My fave deep dish, and a convenient option before catching
My fave deep dish, and a convenient option before catching a movie across the street. I love the classic cheese pizza and the way the edges get caramelized! You'll need to make a reservation well in advance if you're looking to dine in, but the online ordering system also works well. The side of chicken tenders completed the comfort food circle.
The pizza here was the best deep dish I've ever had after
The pizza here was the best deep dish I've ever had after living in Chicagoland almost 50 years. Service was good and attentive even on a busy night. Great pizza place with the feel of just a regular pub.
Me and my fiancé came on a Sunday afternoon craving some
Me and my fiancé came on a Sunday afternoon craving some pequods deep dish pizza as we took 15/20 min to find parking we finally found a spot and walked in just it be greeted so cold and to be told sorry we have all tables filled with reservations till 10pm. It's sad cause coming from the food industry most restaurants keep a couple tables for walk ins I guess to do business here you must need a reservation...
We tried all the top Chicago style pizza places and this
We tried all the top Chicago style pizza places and this was by far the best! Make sure you have a reservation though because they are packed!
Yes it's the best pizza in the USA! The crust is the best
Yes it's the best pizza in the USA! The crust is the best part for me. The sausage is so tasty and the cheese is so delicious. Excellent service. Waitress was very attentive and staff was accommodating for table away from heavy traffic area. The place was popping. The decor was ok but it didn't matter with this pizza. MUST try it
That carmelized cheesy crust around the edges, makes it!
Was in town wanting to try deep dish pizza - just about everything I read online, mentioned the pizza here as one of the best. I had pizza at a couple of the other places too, but this one was my favorite. I loved that carmelized cheesy crust that formed around the edges of the pizza - that put it over the top for me and a major reason I enjoyed it over the competitors. Overall, really good texture of the thick crust, tasty sauce & toppings, lots of cheese, and just a really great pizza. I had half pepperoni, and half pepperoni with fresh garlic & anchovies - I've never had anchovies on a pizza before (or on anything come to think of it), and it was very good, without overpowering everything else.
Not a Fan
Not at all impressed! Burnt crust not tasty. Not getting the hype on this one. Very doughy, lack of flavor, meat burnt too.
Perfect Pequod's Pizza
We were recommended Pequod's Pizza as one the best places to try classic Chicago deep-dish pizza. They did not disappoint. The service was prompt and very helpful. The pizzas we ordered were delicious. High recommended.
PIZZA!
Somebody Feed Phil, Season 3, Chicago, on Netflix...this looked so good I had to go during my Chicago mens' wifeless weekend. And by the grace of Gawd, they do take reservations weeks in advance! We running late on our reservation time, but I called in advance, and Pequod's thankfully held my reservation. The interior is casual pizzeria, and it smells great! The staff are friendlier than most other eateries, thanks! $9 Fried Zucchini...cut into thin slices, breaded thickly, and deep fried crisp...yum! $40 Pequod's Chicago Pizza is really good! We got the large with pepperoni, meatball, and mushrooms. They put cheese high up along the edges of the pan, giving the outer crust a nice cheesy crisp. The cheese and fragrant red sauce are generous. Its a hot, thick, filling, and magical pizza! The four of us men were full and fatty. Large start at $26, $5 for meat toppings, $4 for veggies.
I guess I was expecting more
Being in Chicago for the first time, I felt that i had to have a deep dish pizza at least once. Doing some research, Pequod’s seemed to be the place to go. We made reservations for mid week. Traffic was terrible, so we called that we would be late, but they didn’t seem bothered by it. We arrived 30min after our set reservation, and it wasn’t that busy. The place is cavernous, but we’re eventually seated near the back. Our server helped walk us through the menu, and explained that it typically takes 45min to prep a pizza. Fortunately, it wasn’t too busy so it actually only took 15min. We ordered both a deep dish and thin crust. The deep dish was good, with the crispy edges. Personally, i think having so much topping is too much for me, but still enjoyed it. I thought the thin crust wasn’t special at all. I’m glad I got to try it. But didn’t find it particularly unique enough to desire it again
Delicious deep dish
Place to go to experience delicious deep dish pizza. Especially if you've had bad immitations around the world , this is what it's all about
My favorite option over Giordano’s or Lou Malnati’s
Great option before any game but would suggest making reservations- also like most Deep Dish options - be prepared it is about a 45 min cook time. Love the burnt cheese side-crust
Never again
Burned crust pizza. Not unique in anyway. Wait time horrible. Very bad service. Smile is an optional according to your color
Why did it take so long?
I've been a pizza lover since the late 1940s. My parents often entertained friends on Saturday nights in our recreation hall/party room/bar/basement. They would order several pizzas from the only pizza parlor in our area--they were big on pepperoni--and my brother and I would go downstairs in the morning to munch on cold pizza. Now there is a pizza parlor on every block. And pepperoni is as popular as ever. Lately, I have been looking for a new favorite pizza parlor. My old favorite moved out of our neighborhood. Another went out of business. One stopped delivering in our neighborhood. What to do? Recently, I have been sampling from one place to another. I've come to love Pequods Pizza. Why did it take so long? In recent years, Pequods has been rated as the No. 1 pizza in Chicago by several critics, pizza surveys and food magazines. So I finally decided to give it a try. Located at 2207 North Clybourn Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, it is everything that it is advertised to be. Personally, I prefer delivery. I enjoy eating pizza while watching a movie or sporting event on TV. And I always order a charge pizza so I can reheat some slices at a later time, maybe the late movie. I haven't changed my order in years...a large, 16-inch thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage. I especially like Pequods pizza because the crust is thin and light and chewy. Not too much tomato sauce. Not too much cheese. Plenty of sausage. No pepperoni. More good news. It isn't likely that Pequods will be moving out of the neighborhood any time soon.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
