An Italian treat.
Ate on the first floor, it has about 8 tables in there. Very cozy, and the wait staff was attentive. I think the owner was perched by the door the whole night with a friendly & proud smile. Appetizers were polenta and the special (mortadella, prosciutto). They give you bread. We had a bottle of red (what a lovely evening, right?). Dinner I went with the veal ragu. My friend got... Can't remember. But both were very good that I thought "mine is the best, wait no is theirs?, No mines the best". $100 each for a great time

Charming and delicious!Cozy, great service; I have enjoyed this special place since 1999!

Came here for a work dinner with a very large group of us and the service was very attentive and friendly. I got the spinach and ricotta ravioli and it didn't WOW me but it was still very good and I ate every bite of it. The appetizers were really good as well. If I'm in the area, I would return to try another one of their pasta dishes.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a must if you are in Manhattan.
Located in Tribeca and 2 minute walk from a subway station. Maybe one of the best Italian restaurants outside of Italy that I've been to.....every part of the meal and service was fantasticWe started with an excellent bread basket but instead of butter or olive oil, they included a small tomato based spread which was intensely flavored and highly addictive! The group had a couple of bowls of steamed mussels in a delicious broth that we would have eaten as a soup. The mussels were removed from their shells and sitting in that amazing broth...not a drop left! The entrées were excellent...pasta with rabbit, another homemade pasta with a veal based ragù, lamb shank with farro...all extremely well done (a couple of the pasta dishes were a touch salty but still fantastic). A standout entrée was wild boar....chunks of boar in a rich rich wine based sauce...the texture of short ribs...amazing.A note on the amazing service.....efficient, friendly and proactive. Both I and one of my dinner companions could not decide between a couple of items...the server proactively suggested that he could just bring two smaller portions of both dishes...who does that? We loved it and the portions seemed to be each pretty good sized.I wished I tried dessert! We were too full...A great dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyFate literally brought me here.
Saw a play last night and had reservations elsewhere. We walked about 10 minutes and realized we had gone in the wrong direction. Saw the lights on the place and desperate to get out of the cold and to eat before places close, we went inside. Large outdoor area that's got heaters. Inside, rather small, but very, very cute. We seemed to be the only ones they let in without reservations. Service was phenomenal, and they handled my dairy allergies like a champ. I had the black squid linguini with seafood. Told them spicy is good as other restaurants make it spicy. It wasn't. It has tasted phenomenal, though, and has a great portion size. Best Italian I've done in Manhattan. Apologies for the photos. Lighting wasn't great.

They were able to take our party of two on Saturday night with no reservation. The owner was very kind and said if we could dine within an hour and 25 min, the table was ours. No problem! This is a lovely, charming restaurant with delicious Italian food (and great bread and Tomato flan type thing for spreading). It's romantic but not fussy. The staff is superb. If you are staying nearby, Hilton Garden Inn or Sheraton, it's a 2 minute walk-I highly recommend!

I don't know how I could live in NYC for decades and never knew about this place. Some Italian friends brought us there. It was a long trip and I really didn't want to go. It's not a beautiful restaurant but it is very cozy and comfortable. The menu has a lot of unusual dishes. The appetizers were terrific. Mussels, panzarella, meatballs. It was all terrific with nice crusty bread to scarpetta the sauce. For my main, I tried pasta with leeks. Holy moly! I was transported to a local restaurant in Italy. For me, the sign of a fantastic Italian place is pasta with one ingredient. They hit it out of the park. Everything was very authentically Italian (like Italy, not like Staten Island). I will be going back.
Be the first to ReplyWe had our anniversary dinner at Pepolino.
Location was good,3 minutes walking from our Soho Grand Hotel. Foods are great. Service is great. I love my seafood Black Linguini and cheese cake .
Be the first to ReplyThe food is not bad, Just not good.
But my issue is way bigger than the food. I have lived in nyc for more than 10 years now. So not really sensitive when it comes to prices. never seen a small cappuccino for 8.5 dollars or double espresso for 10 dollars in an absolutely empty restaurant during Sunday lunchtime. It made me write this review. I guess this place is a tourist trap, but the reviews are not reflective of what the restaurant has to offer. I decided to add one that does!

We had reservations uptown that we cancelled when we noticed this place across from our hotel - we had a trying day with travel from South Florida with our 19-month old who decided terrible 2's are the Christmas gift that came early...Needless to say, it was so cozy inside and the food and service were great. We didn't have a reservation and the nice man (I assume the owner) let us sit early ahead of reservations with a note of a time limit which was perfect. Our server made excellent wine and food recommendations (we we're already leaning towards what he recommended. There were a lot of options and EVERYTHING sounded good. Server even went a step beyond to interact with our little daughter (she too enjoyed calamari and the rabbit)+ squid ink pasta+ Braised rabbit pappardelle + calamari + garden salad (that dressing!)+ Panna Cotta Someone in the kitchen has soul and cares about the food the prepare for guests. You can taste it. 100% will be back, potentially even on this trip.

We came here on Friday night for date night before going to Aire as we were craving pasta. It's located in a cute townhouse and we had a great table on the first floor right by the window. I would definitely recommend making a reservation as it's a small place, and it sounded like most of the people after us had reservations too. We ordered two cocktails: the Firenze (a pear martini with pecorino) and the Palermo (a spicy mango rum drink). Both were delicious and unique (and pretty strong too) - I like that they brought the drinks from upstairs in little cocktail shakers and poured them at the table. Bread basket came with a small tomato flan that was something different. It had a great flavor and I liked it best with the bread since it was on the salty side. For our starter we shared the spinach soufflé - highly recommend! It's not a traditional soufflé but rather more 'eggy' in texture, and it came with a delicious tomato and basil coulis. We had trouble deciding between that or a special of the day, burrata with prosciutto, but I'm happy we got the soufflé.Onto the pastas - we ordered the Linguine Nere di Mare and the Fettuccine al Coniglio (aka the squid ink linguine with seafood and spicy tomato sauce, and the fettuccine with braised rabbit). Not usually the biggest fan of rabbit but this sauce was tasty and the meat was cooked nicely. If you haven't had rabbit before, the texture is kinda in between chicken and pulled pork. The linguine sauce had a great kick to it spice-wise, my only complaint would be to have slightly bigger pieces of seafood - I felt it was a little stingy on that front, especially the small shrimp pieces. Finally, feeling full but having seen the delicious looking chocolate torte on Yelp, we split that. It's thick, gooey and delightfully dense, served with some fresh whipped cream. I was so torn between this and the cheesecake (I LOVE cheesecake) but since I won the battle of the appetizers, my husband won the final dessert choice. I guess I'll have to come back to try the cheesecake another time...
Be the first to ReplyPro tip: Come here around 6:15 PM.
This place was packed by the time 6:40 rolls around. The vibe and service was excellent. The greeting was warm and I never felt rush. One of the clients actually asked the waiter if he is italian and the waiter responded politely saying he is mexican. For food, we were trying to be adventurous with the app. We got a spinach soufflé and butternut squash soup with amaretto crumbles. They were both yum but not as exciting as they sound on the menu. Neither dishes blew my socks away but maybe that's the point, just solid great dishes. The mains we got the chinghale. The boar was a tad oily and muddy in terms of flavor. I much preferred the squid ink pasta. It did need a hit more of that red pepper flakes though. The flourless choco tart was a giant chocolate bonbon shaped into a piece of pie.

..soft and delicious...sausage risotto very flavorful! Wish we lived in NYC!

Absolutely incredible! This place is a must visit in Tribeca if you're looking for hearty Tuscan food in Manhattan. Specially nice on a cold evening, the interior is very cozy and immediately makes you feel at home. Make sure to get reservations in advance as the place does tend to get packed. We started off with the steamed mussels and seared octopus. The mussels are a must-have if you are a fan of garlic based dishes, absolutely delicious! For the mains, we went with the black linguine with mixed seafood as well as the gnocchi in butter sage. The seafood pasta was so hearty, perfect for a cold night!Lastly, we ended the meal with the dark chocolate mousse flan. If you are a fan of rich chocolate based desserts, this dish definitely won't disappoint you. It's rich, it's decadent, and it's the perfect way to end the meal.Would love to come back to experience more dishes!

Having been to and eaten in Italy, the food here is authentic and excellent. The grilled octopus was perfectly done. The seafood black ink pasta was excellent. They make all their pasta in-house and was perfectly cooked al dente. A nice chianti. The cheesecake is excellent but was too much so took it home. I ate outdoors for lunch on a warm New Year's Eve day. The waitstaff was excellent and attentive. Highly, highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, wine, and service.
I like their diverse selection of meats. I tried wild boar for the first time and it was delicious!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best dining experiences I've ever had.
It's not often I walk away from a restaurant saying, "This is a new favorite." But from the food to the service, this place was impeccable. Given that we're in the middle of a pandemic, I'm truly blown away at the level of this restaurant's service. Our server was phenomenal and made perfect recommendations for drinks, dinner, and dessert. He guided us the whole way through and absolutely everything was divine. A couple of true standouts that you should absolutely add to your order: the mussels and the cheesecake. Everything was perfect, but I will 100% get both of these dishes when I return. If you're looking for a heavenly dining experience, look no further!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to, best
One of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to, best kept secret is the spinach appetizer. The specials are always amazing, the truffle pasta was the best pasta I've ever had. The wait staff is extremely attentive and the owner shared his secrets on how he makes his pork chops so juicy! Definitely a must eat at nyc restaurant
Be the first to ReplyDear Pepolino,I wanted to give you some feedback, as a
Dear Pepolino,I wanted to give you some feedback, as a long-time patron of your establishment, since 2002.I dined last night with friends. This was our first time back since before COVID. Prior to COVID we had dined with you at least once a month for celebrations and treated family and friends to our favourite restaurant.Last night we had issues with both the food and the service. When we arrived we explained to the waiter that we wanted 3 separate checks. He said he would be happy to accommodate this request at the end of our meal. We dined with this group monthly, and this is often the case, so we did not take issue at the time. Our drinks arrived 30 minutes after we ordered them. The waiter then came to take our order. He said he wanted to take all the appetizers first. We all gave him our orders. Then he asked for our entrees. I asked if there were any specials. He said he thought he had given them to us and proceeded to read up just the specials for pasta and meat. I assume he did not want to inconvenience himself by reading the appetizer special and having to change what he has already written down. He forgot was the meat special was and had to look it up. I've been a server. In an establishment like yours, the servers should have the specials memorized before the diners start being seated. I have also never seen that happen before at Pepolino of old.The food was bland. From the bread, tapenade, to the entrees. When the entrees were set down for each of us, the appetizer plates were still on the top. The dirty plates were removed by literally reaching across the plate just put down for every one of us. Ridiculous. It was as if the servers had not only never done it before, but didn't go out to eat or understand etiquette. We ordered dessert and were completely finished by 8:30pm. At this point, there were several empty water glasses at the table. But no one remedied this even as the empty dessert plates were cleared. The waiter arrived and I told him we were ready for the checks. After 20 minutes and nothing, I asked again. He came by and started to go through the menu items to separate the checks. Once it became clear to him that there would be 3 and not 2 checks (remember, we did tell him this at the start), he was visibly annoyed. We then suggested he just take out the few items our single friend ordered and the 4 of us would split the difference. After another 30 minutes, he had not brought the checks. One of the people in our party approached him at the bar to inquire when the checks would be arriving, the waiter seemed frazzled and got us the checks. This was one hour after we originally asked for the check. We won't be returning for some time, for some time, if ever. This is heartbreaking for me to say as I said, this was literally our favourite restaurant for almost 20 years.I thought you should know and will hopefully figure out how to repair your quality to pre-COVID days at some point.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
I had a Negroni and a Panzanella salad which is basically a chopped salad. And I had the special which was pappardelle with a boar ragu. I had a glass of the Chianti. The Negroni was good, the pomodor flan was a free appetizer, the salad was okay, the pappardelle was very good albeit the noodles could have been cooked slightly less.
