Love the food and service and prices!!! There are three
Love the food and service and prices!!! There are three Indian restaurants in Belair. But I find this to be the coziest and best place of all three. The prices are reasonable, the staff is attentive, and the food is feeling.
Be the first to ReplyMy online order was ready for pickup earlier than planned.
I ordered the full thali and a side of samosas - it was enough for two meals. Everything was fresh and flavorful - some dishes were spicy (which was ok with me). Good value for the price.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent family operation in the back of a grocery store.
It was so fun to introduce my friends to a North Indian thali and my favorite chaat. It was so great to share pav bhaji, chole and pooris, the full thali, sev poori, and pani poori. I am so glad to find Pavan while visiting Baltimore and hope everyone gives this place the respect it's due. Food truly felt like I was back in India :)
Be the first to ReplyPerfect.
Friendly folks and the food is top notch. Great prices too. I kept going for my aloo gobi and samosas. Unfortunately, I'm relocating next week. Discovered this great place too late! Blessings!
Be the first to ReplyThis might be one of the few Indian food places I have not
This might be one of the few Indian food places I have not tried in the Baltimore area. I kept it simple and order the mixed platter and the mini thali. I just wanted a sample of everything. I ordered online and my food was ready upon arrival for pickup. So I didn't realize this place was a market. After I got my food I walked around before my excitement kicked in to get home and eat. I love Indian food but most of the mixed platter was too spicy for my liking. Also wasn't a huge fan of the sweetness of many items on the platter. The pakora and the samosa were good. Everything else I took 1-2 bites and didn't finish. The thali dish wasn't too bad. The potato curry and chapati were good and the rice, Lima bean curry were decent. I'd probably just opt for curry and the pakora if I return. Overall, decent food and everything is vegetarian.

This hidden gem is the best!!!! I miss eating in & having adorable grannies bring me lunch, but I'll take what I can get. When I know I have a busy week I order a few curries to take home & treat myself to fresh homemade south Indian goodies. The quarts are only $5 and a pint is $9! Be sure to ask for chutneys. They make the carrot chutney & it's great.Order in advance- they aren't quick- it's grannies back there cooking just for you! Grab some packs of naan or chapati and a bag of basmati & you are set for the work week

My family loves ordering food from here and it is always wonderful. The samosa chaat is one of our favorites. The staff is very friendly.

3.5 stars, NOT 4. Props for being all veg Indian with cheap takeout prices. The food wasn't anything special though. I LOVE how when I called and asked if they served naan the man said "uhh yeah I can make you some naan."When I got home and opened the foil I noticed it was the frozen naan that I buy in the store. Well, alright. Thanks for microwaving me some frozen naan but I will do that myself next time.

Great food, large portions, reasonably priced, fast delivery. I'll definitely be ordering from here again!

The food is delicious and affordable, it is generally fast and the staff is friendly. We also like that their menu has different offerings than a standard Indian restaurant menu!
Be the first to ReplyPavan is the hands down the best South Indian food in
Pavan is the hands down the best South Indian food in Baltimore. We always order the chana masala with fried poori. It's incredibly flavorful and has a nice level of spice. It's pretty heavy and very filling. I could eat a bucket of this stuff.... Definitely get the chana masala. The dosa with sambar is also very delicious and a little on the lighter side. We got the appetizer platter for the first time and it was nice sampling some different options, but the different items are very doughy and a little sweet, which is not my favorite. The restaurant doesn't have indoor seating right now due to COVID and they seem to take good precautions. We just went to their website to place the order and were able to pick up the food pretty quickly. There's a nice park a few blocks over called Double Rocks Parks which is a nice place to enjoy the meal. Also, Pavan is a small grocery store with primarily dried goods. But you can get some interesting spices or snacks there. We've gotten some Kulfi to take along for dessert.
Be the first to ReplyI saw this place in passing during a drive to other stores
I saw this place in passing during a drive to other stores in the area. I thought it was an Indian grocery, but found out they are also a small restaurant. It took a while for me to go back to that area (it's a bit of a drive), and after looking at the reviews more closely), I finally did gave them a try.And I was very pleased. My family looked at their menu online, and the prices were pretty darned good. When we called, they were able to answer questions about food allergies, and had a lot of great options for my family member that has celiac. Ordering was easy, and though the wait time was expected to be a decent chunk of time, the drive there would have definitely covered that time. When we arrived, we had to wait a good while longer. Apparently, they were having a VERY busy night from the people that were waiting for their orders. So my husband waited near the food counter while the kids and I looked at the grocery section. Their grocery selection is small, but covers enough essentials and a few non-essentials for Indian cooking. The kids enjoyed perusing while trying to convince me to buy special drinks for them and some of the candies. After a while, we our order was ready. When we got home, one item was missing and we ended up having a type of rice we hadn't ordered. We called and found out that we weren't charged for the missing dish. This mishap turned out for the best. Most of the food we ordered was gluten free anyways, and turned out to be way more than we could eat. And the rice we received (lemon rice, I believe) turned out to be well liked by the rest of the family (as was the other flavored rice we got).I want to clarify. The food was well portioned. Not a ton, but not too little. But the food had a wonderful flavor and spiciness level that our bodies and taste buds were satisfied quickly. It was SO good! We got several more meals out of our order, and it only got better with time. (My mother has a saying, "It tastes like more." This is one of those rare times that delicious food didn't "taste like more", it was "just right".)We've ordered from there a few more times, and each time was great. We haven't had any more order mishaps since that first (which barely was an issue once we actually started eating and realized how perfect what we had was). I'm hoping to post some pictures of some of the items we ordered some time, with descriptions.Now... I will say... If you don't like spicy food, this may not be the place for you. Or you may need to ask what items are less spicy (I know there are some that's less). In general, this food is proper spicy. You definitely feel it, but you also definitely get a lot of wonderful flavor and texture alongside it. There is no "how spicy do you want it" option that I've seen yet. My kids eat varying degrees of spiciness, and though this food was spicy, all of my family LOVED the food and wanted to try more of the stuff soon. We've considered ordering catering amount or some of the largest size of the normal ordering sizes so we could freeze it to have whenever we want. (Like I said, it's a bit of a drive for us.)Seriously, if you want really delicious Indian food, with a lot of gluten free options, I SERIOUSLY recommend this place. Even if you are a meat eater (and we do eat meat in my family), I don't think you'd miss it with how delicious, satisfying, and flavorful these dishes are.
Be the first to ReplyOooo I've been searching for a good dosa spot and I've
Oooo I've been searching for a good dosa spot and I've finally found it... and in suburban MD no less! LOLPrior to coming here, I was a little weary, but the reviews were outstanding and the descriptions were very hole-in-the-wall type restaurant (& sometimes they churn out the best food) -- and I was SOOO right. Pavan Foods is a super nondescript vegetarian store that kinda looks like a free-standing version of an inner-city corner store, if you know what I mean. Honestly, I would have passed it completely if it wasn't for my GPS!Inside is part grocery/convenience store, and in the back is a small seating area (closed off now due to the pandemic), window displays of pre-made goodies and desserts, and an ordering counter with a huge, not-easily missed menu. There are also pictures of the food with labels for reference on all the surrounding walls. I had already decided what I was going to order prior to coming in, but I was tempted to order more... truly spoiled for choice. I ultimately settled on my original plan of Masala Dosa, Pav Bhaji, and an order of Samosas. MASALA DOSA was freshly made and thoroughly fulfilled my craving, and then some. Perfectly stuffed with spiced peas and potatoes, and served with a delicious sambar and chutney on the side for topping/dipping. I immediately ate it in my car-- and instantly wanted to go back inside to order another for later. If you're unfamiliar with dosa, it looks crepe-like, and made from a batter of fermented lentils and rice. It is as if Ethiopian injera and a French crepe had a baby, but not quite. PAV BHAJI was also sooo good. A deliciously thick, vegetable curry served with soft dinner rolls. An absolute delight that I quickly tasted after my Masala Dosa, but I was so full, so it ended up being a wonderful dinner later on. The SAMOSAS were also filled with spiced peas and potatoes like the Masala Dosa, but were served with the typical Mint Chutney and the Tamarind Chutney. They were steaming hot and warmed my soul. The mini samosas I get in the freezer aisle pale in comparison. I want to go back ASAP for some more Masala Dosa, and to try the many other items on their menu. Hopefully I can stop by for Thali one day!
