Parker's Garage & Oyster Saloon Beach Haven Reviews
A Special Treat!
We ran in on a whim and were greeted with a warm welcome. We ordered a bunch of small plates and they were all delicious- the artichoke were cooked in a lovely sauce, the calamari were fried in a light, spicy sauce and the grilled shrimp had a terrific dipping sauce as well. All were a bit unusual and very tasty. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. A fun vibe and a creative spin on all the dishes. We will definitely return. Thank again!
High prices, poor food!
I have tried Parker’s Garage twice and been disappointed twice. The first time which was a couple of years ago, four of five of us were underwhelmed with the food particularly given the price. This year we tried it again since there was no line and there was over an hour wait at our favorite restaurant. What a disappointment! Both the food and the prices were worse. My halibut was overcooked and dry and the sauce was lousy. One friend was served a lobster claw that was dry and burnt and the rest of the fish on her plate was mediocre. It took 2 servers to break the lobster claw. Our other friend had a fish stew which a decent filet of fish but was spoiled by some poor tasting shrimp that may have been hanging out in the broth overnight. The tuna on the cracker appetizer was good but of course we had to pay $5 for an extra cracker as there were four in our party. Paying $300 for mediocre to bad food was not very enjoyable. Suffice to say we will not be trying the restaurant a third time.
Amazing mea!
We had the top tier tasting menu (105$ per person) and it was the most amazing meal ever! Just bring a bottle of wine- our fav were the tuna crackers and scallop fish- everything was so tasty!
Tried it one time and will not be back!
This restaurant is located in a fabulous area on the bay in Beach Haven, NJ. A wonderful setting with a view of boats and water. However, that is where it stops. You are reminded that your reservation ends 90 minutes after you are seated & there is an employee that walks around with an iPad checking each table and the progress you are making with your meal. UGH! The menu selections are not that stimulating & everyone in my party had difficulty deciding on entrees, not necessarily the protein, but the accompanying items served. Atmosphere was very loud and sterile.
"Great meal...did you say something?"
My girlfriend and I had dinner with another couple Saturday July 29th. Great food, great view, very good service, but I wish I could say great conversation, but it was so loud it gave me a headache. Keep in mind this is ala carte, so if you're hungry, order a side or two. I had the grouper which was wonderful. It's right on the bay, and we had a bay side table. Now, this is one very large room with no noise dampening. The noise level was extremely loud and I wouldn't go back just for that reason (unless it's mid-day and business is slow)...sorry Parkers.
Great spot and a lovely bay atmosphere near the marina
Great spot and a lovely bay atmosphere near the marina. The staff was incredible. No luck getting a reservation last minute, but we snuck in early with a small party. Big parties celebrating something should reserve well in advance. All the fish was fantastic. Incredible local oyster selection. Land lovers should try the iberico pigs meat.
Great food and service in a hot, crowded and loud setting
We were a party of four and went for dinner with a reservation at 5:15, booked a week and a half in advance, because all later reservations were taken. Book early! The only parking nearby was paid parking, at $10. It was a hot day and and it was very hot in the restaurant, as it was open-air. The tables were tightly packed into the space and didn’t leave enough room to move your chair in and out without bumping into the person in the chair behind you. Two people in our party did not feel they had enough space to sit a comfortable distance from the table and the people seated behind them kept bumping into their chairs. The restaurant was crowded and loud. This place runs like a well-oiled machine and you need to place your appetizer and entree orders at the same time, which was a first for us and makes the meal feel a bit rushed. Our server was attentive and the food was very good. We had the tuna crackers to start, the combo platter, monkfish, and fried chicken. All were well-presented and delicious! Overall, the food and service were very good but we left feeling that the seating, noise level and lack of climate control detracted from the excellent meal. We left feeling mixed about the whole experience.
Great night out with family
Great food!! A top notch place and great sunset view. The service was impeccable. Will definitely come back again. Also, a bonus it was a BYOB, which is rare these days!
Most Creative Food on LBI
We were here twice in the last six weeks. Food is well prepared and offers the most creative menu on LBI. If you want seafood prepared in a way not offered in most other restaurants on the Island you will want to try Parker’s Garage. Not only is the seafood creatively prepared but so are the appetizers particularly the Brussels sprouts and octopus. Save room for the deserts. The service is good and attentive notwithstanding the large number of people being served at any time. This restaurant does not sell wine or liquor so bring your own wine.
Tuna crackers remain a highlight
Location is perfect, although the night we went it was rainy and cold so I never took my jacket off the entire dinner. Service by Doug was wonderful. The tuna crackers are worth coming for, if nothing else. They are truly spectacular. Rest of our meal was expensive and somewhat disappointing. the halibut with foie gras was only okay, the Jersey street corn grilled with fresh quest was dry and wizened and the lobster was not at all what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be steamed or broiled but it's like a Chinese stew with Chinese broccoli and a sauce. I felt the menu should have described it better, because for $58.00, I'd like to get what I like.
Great location, great views.
You must get a reservation (they use resy) to sit in the main area otherwise the walk in wait times are pretty long (2 hours for a party of 2 on a Monday night in August). Reservations and between 630-800 are ever more difficult because the main area overlooks the sunset. We instead sat in the saloon area which is first come first serve, has a little less ambience but still a great spot for 2.It's BYOB and wine or beer only. You save a little on the bar tab but the menu is on the pricier side so in all you'll land at about the same cost for a night out.Food is great. Everything was fresh tasting and prepared well with good ingredients. Service was attentive, maybe a little understaffed based on the pace folks were working at. But attentive and friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.We had:Nashville Oysters - think Nashville hot chicken but with oysters. It was the best thing we had. It was creative, spiced nicely and the sauce and bread base held everything together.Oysters Rockefeller - very good. More breadcrumbs than I prefer but flavor was really good. I recommend a dash of hot sauce!Roasted Salmon - exceptional. Sauce was light but flavorful. Combo (crab cake stuff lobster tail, prawns, scallops) - good. Crab cake stuffing was excellent, Scallops were very good. Prawns were flavorful maybe a tad bit over cooked. Lobster half tail and claw were nice but definitely over cooked. This could have been an epic dish, but it was just "good".Mac n Cheese - gooey, baked crusted edges, good flavor. Broiled Brussels sprouts - well seasoned, nice bit of char and crunch. very good.
Had a very excellent dinner last night.
Recommend to make a reservation as it may have helped us get a table right by the water. The ambiance of the place is so nice - open, airy, great view of the bay. Started with Tuna Cracker and highly recommend if you like raw tuna. It is sourced right from Barnegat Light so it's fresh and the combo of avocado chunks and sauce was perfect. The crab cakes are also highly recommended - no fillers. The halibut in green curry is very unique and if you like a touch of Asian flavor, this dish is for you. The curry flavor was so light and didn't over power the taste of halibut and the greens. A little pricey but well worth it and will go back next year!
