Stressful
We sat in a dining room where the carpet made us dizzy! And we’re surrounded by people with vouchers. The food was mediocre and staff were arguing amongst themselves. Stressful seeing the manager shouting to the staff on top of the delay with the food. The bar was unmanned, very disappointing for a supposedly 5-star establishment.
Be the first to ReplyAfternoon tea is not worth the full price
This is not worth the full price of £55 per person (with champagne) unless what we got was not as good due to us using a voucher. There were only sandwiches in the savoury part. Others have mentioned brioches but there were none on our plate. The bread was quite dry as if the sandwiches were prepared in advance and left on the side for a while. The sweet options were very sweet and, for a supposedly five star hotel, not very special. Nothing exciting or fanciful. The scones were nice. Service was friendly.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Victorian restaurant and very good food.
Lovely Victorian facade set in the 5 star Royal Horseguards Hotel. We had a Living Social voucher which was 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco. For the starter I chose the Beetroot carpaccio with hanged oat yogurt, caramelised walnuts & tosted focaccia The presentation was very good, prepared just right and tasted delicious. For the main I chose the Roasted chicken breast with cracked wheat, courgette pappardeila & pan juices. Again very good presentation, cooked just right and tasted delicious. For the desert I chose the Chocolate Torte. Again the presentation was very good, prepared just right and tasted delicious. The service was very good and friendly. Would definitely return enjoyed the experience very much.
Be the first to ReplyTea for 2
Overall I really enjoyed my first ever 'Classic English Afternoon Tea' experience whilst hosting a friend in London from Croatia. The Royal Horseguards hotel was warm & cosy with beautiful Christmas festive decorations tastefully arranged throughout. The doorman was polite, friendly and helpful in guiding us to the Lounge checkin. First impressions great! I was a little worried about how things would go as there had been some recent negative reviews online. However, the service was professional and warm throughout. Our waitress was Ozoda, and she was fantastic. The afternoon tea experience was mostly lovely and as one would expect from a hotel such as the Horseguards. The sweet cakes were yummy, the scones nicely warmed. However, unfortunatley the finger sandwiches were cold and hard pressed together. I actually couldn't seperate 2 sandwiches and had to cut them and eat them together! luckily they were similar in flavour :) Maybe its the inbetwixt Christmas and the New Year period so some pre-made & chilled items need a little more tlc before being served! The most important thing was that my friend felt like a Queen and had a wonderful English afternoon tea experience that surpassed her expectations....

Booked a table for 7 for afternoon tea, it was one of my friends 60th birthday. Hotel is lovely and sandwiches and cakes were fine. The only complaint was that when they bought the plate out with Happy Birthday written on it in icing they had put the wrong number. My friend is 60 and the plate had 68 on it. I wasnot very impressed, they had aged my friend by 8 years. Disappointed
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambience and service.
Only been here a few minutes, soooo much better than Gordon Ramsey's poncy little rip off shop... The meal was excellent, the staff very pleasant and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyService and food Very poor
Lunch disaster, could not find booking, yet clearly noted on their table list. Taken through to side room which had a musty smell and crunchy carpet, we didn’t accept, eventually given a table to dining room. Food over cooked and congealed, we dined with a friend so didn’t complain, but will never eat here again, emails the hotel of course no response.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the money
You can see why they need to use groupon to get people in, not the best food, especially for the rated restaurant. Service was mediocre, more from management than those serving. We had booked via groupon, but I had contacted the hotel directly for the reservation, after managing to find the booking and confirm all was OK, we mentioned that we would ho onto the bar area for drinks as our reservation was an hour away, she said that was fine we went in to the hidden courtyard all very pleasant though service was a little slow, just before our reservation time we went back to the same lady we had talked to an hour earlier. She then went through the whole palaver of finding our booking again, not good for a front of house manager, we where shown to our seats given a shabby piece of over used A4 paper with the menu on it. We asked for the wine list which was a proper printed menu with the food menu on the back, the al acarte on it......most of the menu was the same as on the tatty bit of paper we had. Most of the staff seemed new, I assume the guy in the suit was the restaurant manager he barked a few orders to staff, rather than treating them with any respect (you can see why they can't hold on to staff). Food was OK, but poorly presented, my sliced meat was totally covered in rocket, my rib eye (you paid extra for) was way too over seasoned. The creme Brule for dessert was the best thing...... I CERTSINLY WOULDNT GO BACK TO EAT, THOUGH THE BAR ON A SUNNY SUMMERS DAY WAS LOVELY

Very desorganized place for the prices they charge for drinks ! Bar staff rude Staff shouting between them.lack of leadership
Be the first to ReplyGreat food!
We had dinner here whilst staying at the hotel. The restaurant has nice decor and the wine was really good. The food, when it arrived, was really fabulous. Delicious flavours and beautifully presented. The majority of the service was warm and friendly (with the exception of one person who made us feel looked down on) though it was a little slow considering there was only one other table . All in all we had a nice time and we felt it was reasonably priced for the area.
Be the first to Replygood but not memorable
We went for lunch with friends using a Groupon voucher at £49 for 2 people for 3 courses and a glass of prosecco The food is good and with generous portions although my rib-eye steak was a bit tough, almost too chewy. The service is efficient and friendly and the surroundings almost too quiet but this is very good value. I'm not so sure I would want to pay the full price which would be nearly double.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Staff but very, very slow service
Love the hotel and the staff in the restaurant in the evening are lovely so friendly However the staff in the kitchen are letting them down...... we had to wait for what seemed like an eternity for our main, I was having steak and my husband the chicken nothing complicated. My husband was happy with his but my steak had quite a bit of gristle which was so disappointing, we ordered dessert and in all fairness were warned there would be a wait of about 20 minutes for the fondant which was fine. We just found the initial wait (well over an hour) for the main much too long, the restaurant was nearly empty so they weren't busy (heaven help them if they were!) and for the money we just didn't think it up to scratch. In the end we were there for over two hours and most of that was waiting for the main, it wasn't worth the money and I'm afraid disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
Had really been looking forward to a family meal. We used a groupon voucher and paid for a la carte. We were told one of the starters was unavailable with no alternative. Salmon was only like warm so asked for another- next one came back frozen in the middle. Was reheated and returned but the rest of the party had finished theirs. Waitress was very helpful but everyone else didn’t seem interested- no smiles or asking if we were ok. Service was very slow. Place seemed a little run down. Would not recommend. Very disappointed
Be the first to ReplyHAVE BEEN LOYAL CUSTOMERS FOR OVER 15 YEARS BUT WILL NEVER RETURN
This restaurant had been one of our favourites for many years and we have been more than patience in hoping that they would get back to the first class service and food that we used to have. This was so good, not only did we visit every time we stayed in London but at times, we would come twice in the week. We were proud to recommend and to bring friends .It wasn't just a meal but an experience but, unfortunately, it has gone from a perfect one in every way, to food served that would be acceptable in a three star hotel, service non existent and surroundings sticky, tired and worn. Unfortunately, although they had been declining in their standards before Covid, since Covid they have rapidly gone downhill in every way possible . Our last visit was the last straw and we will not waste our time or money again. Now, there is basic customer care, we took so long to be served (they were not busy), long wait for food, long wait for table to be cleared between courses. We asked for tap water, a half glass was poured for each of us as jug empty and she said she would get some more. No refill and we gave up asking. Everywhere around us was dirty, tables not cleaned from previous diners the whole time we were in there, crumbs and food on the floor. Dirty cutlery, sticky tables and sticky wooden salt and pepper grinders. The dining chairs are so old and tired that the upholstery has gone on the seats for the majority of the chairs and you can see the large dips in the cushions, extremely uncomfortable. . They seem to have completely lost pride in themselves, their service, food and surroundings. Such a shame and it is with heavy heart that I have finally written this review.
Be the first to ReplyWowcher evening meal deal
We had a wowcher evening meal deal 3 course and a glass of bubbly for £50 for 2 people Although the food was nice and the Prosecco was delicious unfortunately the service was very very slow ! I think they were understaffed so you can’t blame the staff who were friendly and as helpful they could be they didn’t have time to come back to us and ask how are food was or apologise for wait in between courses ( an extra glass of wine might have sweetened things lol) when you have a meal in a restaurant it Isn’t all about the food it’s about the enjoyment of the experience and we weren’t looked after (even if it’s a wowcher deal) we won’t be back sorry
Be the first to ReplyYes i would recommend
Didn't really know what to expect bar it would be good. As it happened, the experience exceeded our expectations! Attentive service from Ozoda and Mulu - (two lovely ladies). It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Definitely worth both the money and experience! Thank you, it was lovely and a nice memory for us as part of our celebration weekend in London. regards Mr Edwards
Be the first to ReplyLovely evening meal
We had set 3 course evening meal with Prosecco (travelzoo) so good value. Lovely setting, great service and good food. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic
Had the most amazing lunch and prosecco at the Royal Horseguards Hotel restaurant, the food was incredible and the surroundings absolutely immaculate.
The treatment from all members of Staff was second to none; we were treated so graciously, and our every need was catered for. From walking in the main doors of this lovely hotel to every member of staff we encountered was welcoming and more than happy to help us. Our main server in the restaurant Aysha was incredibly sweet and smiley.
In fact, all the waiting Staff in the restaurant couldn’t do enough for us, although we are fairly low maintenance they made sure we were very well looked after whilst keeping a discreet distance at all times.
I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, and I would thoroughly recommend a visit if you had the opportunity, in fact I have already mentioned the astounding visit we had to my friends and family and urged them to make a reservation.
Great venue for a special family Sunday lunch
We’ve been to the Royal Horseguards Hotel restaurant a few times over the years for family lunches when my parents are up in London at the weekend. As my father says ‘they look after us well’. A good mix of formality and a relaxed atmosphere - it makes it feel like a special occasion, which it was getting together in Covid times. The Hotel lobby always has beautiful flowers and on previous visits impressive Christmas decorations.
Each time we’ve visited the staff have been particularly helpful in organising any date changes and special dietary requirements/allergies. We had a set menu - good food and variety.
Particular thanks to Aysha who took care of us the day and Hortense for organising the booking. They both made sure we had a great experience - as did all the team - and chatted away to my parents. We felt welcomed and didn’t feel rushed. The lunch will be a great memory to bank.
The Hotel also has a good area for tea/ coffee/ drinks beforehand/after your meal. Having walked past groups having afternoon tea, that also looks good!
Take a look at the entrance and staircase to the National Liberal Club - a slice of history accessible via a door in the hotel lobby.
Better attention to detail needed
Main of risotto and salmon was exceptional, well flavoured and delicately cooked. Had the chocolate orange cake as dessert but this was bland. The service needed attention. It seemed one server was trying to cover too many tables. Bread rolls not distributed until a few minutes before the mains arrived. Water glasses not filled until the dessert. Really glad the main was so good as this held up the whole meal.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful champagne afternoon tea!
Booked via Wowcher and Open Table for the afternoon tea. Was beautifully presented and champagne was very nice. Service by Stella was brilliant, she explained it all to us. Lovely to have one pot of tea each, very tasty. Atmosphere of the place was lovely and hotel was beautiful. Would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing afternoon treat
I treated my partenr and I to a 3 cousre meal and bottle of fizz in London. The resturant was beautiful. The food was amazing and the staff were first class.
We had a set menu and chose a bottle or red wine rather than fizz. It was a re4ally full bodied wine and most palatable.
Our waitress was Miha. Although other staff were around and helping. Miha showed us to our table. She left us to read the menu then she asked us was the choice of alcahole acceptable. We chose the red and were pleasantly surprised. I will look to buy that for my own enjoyment at home. Our choice was a full bottle of fizz, white or red wine.
Our order was taken and a very impressive set menu. All of the food on the menu was well described. Each course was beautifully presented, tastey and plentiful. Iced water was offered. Our wine was poured for us. We were offered replacement warm rolls.
Miha made our afternoon special. She was attentive but not over. SHe was at our dispsal without being in our face. Perfect balance and an asset to the company
The place was very grand and in a very grand area. The resturant however didint feel snooty and we didint feel looked down upon. We were treated as you would want to be treated and the service was undoubtably first class. I would recoment this place. And I will return. Thank you
Valentines meal
Had the valentines set meal, service was very friendly and efficient. The food was lovely and surroundings great. Would recommend
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Birthday Dinner
An awesome evening celebrating my friend’s birthday. Our waiting staff were excellent as was Stanly from the management team.
From the moment we walked in, the customer service was helpful, friendly and welcoming. Evelina is fabulous and made sure our dinner was to a very high standard. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was fantastic and the prosecco kept flowing!
Thank you all for making my friend’s birthday very memorable!
I wouldn't bother
This is barely good pub grub. Wouldn't recommend. Had better hungry horse.
The servers were nice though, as was the cocktail my partner had.
