I'd hideaway with Oma any opportunity I get.
We had a late Friday night reservation for 5, everyone was so dang friendly and wore the coolest jumpsuits. The "outdoor" table back in the hideaway felt like an extension of the restaurant & the temp was perfect. The cocktails were on point, who knew you could make a drink taste exactly like bubblegum? And the lil mai tai sushi shots really spoke to my inner teen. The food was divine. They are small plates - so we ordered almost everything on the menu (we didn't get the turnip, the cabbage, or the burger) but we got 2 orders of rice. They were out of fried chicken, so we happily ordered a second char siu pork platter. Everything was so good! - I wish I could sleep on a bed of their roti every night. - The tempura fried green beans & the winter raita salad blew my expectations out of the water. - My friend thought the wonton mee was a bit too fishy. I mostly agree, and I think it was less spectacular in comparison to the other dishes. - The spicy katong laksa was fire. I mixed it in with some rice to absorb the spice & happily sniffled my way through it. All in all, we left with full bellies and happy hearts. I'd strongly recommend Oma's Hideaway. And if you can swing it, I recommend getting ~2 dishes/person + an extra rice, and sharing everything family style.

Thank you Oma's Hideaway for coming to the rescue on the eve of 1-13 during the snowstorm that shut down PDX for the weekend. Luckily we braved the elements and got a two-top for dinner at Oma's. We enjoyed slushie shots (DO NOT SKIP THIS), the spicy katong laksa ($22), fall raita salad ($15), a wonton mee ($26), and oma's corn fritters ($12). The portions were small and everything was yum, but the vibes (music) and service (soooo friendly) definitely made the experience. We would love to return and try lunch or brunch.
Be the first to ReplyWent here with 2 others.
I thought it was pretty expensive for good food and left hungry. One friend is vegan and had to order twice as many dishes as the other two as her dishes were very small.

I just love this restaurant! Everytime I go there, I have an absolutley amazing meal. Their menu always changes up, so there have been new items to try each time. I took my daughter there tonight, it was her first time, so we probably didn't choose the most adventurous items, but dang they were good. We got the coconut rice, salted egg yolk curry fires, tempura fried green beans, and Indonesian fried chicken. Each dish was a marvel. I am a picky fried chicken eater, and this was one of the best I had. Not too fried, so had crunch, but not enough to cut up your mouth, and the accompaniments were fantastic. The dishes we ordered felt like comfort food, but elevated and unique. The cocktail menu was interesting, and we love the items we choose. The service was excellent, the waiter was competent, familiar with the menu, made suggestions, and providered excellent service. I have to say this is one of my favorite PDX restaurants, and I need to go more often!
Be the first to ReplyI went on Tuesday with no reservation and was lucky.
I didn't know this place was such a hip spot. The 80s vibes inside were spectacular. I got carried away in conversation but everything we had was delicious. I got the fried chicken and that had a really crunch breading that was truly scrumptious. I covered it with the curry that came to the table. We ordered some pork and that was surprisingly fishy but in a very good way. I can't wait to come back. Our server was so sweet. They keep the menu fresh by rotating some things every month so you aren't bored.

We've lived nearby for over a year and only finally visited yesterday, and boy was it worth it. Delicious meals, well mixed drinks and very unique ambience. Our waiter walked us through the menu and pairings. We loved this experience.
Be the first to ReplyVisiting from San Francisco, I love a good foodie scene.
Oma's did not disappoint! Incredible Salty Egg Yolk Curry Fries and Laksa
Be the first to ReplyI would go here again just for the vibes and the roti.
This place was adorable and such a fun maximalist fever dream. My boyfriend and I went here on New Year's Eve and even on an insane night that's usually packed it had great service and we were able to get a reservation same day which tells me this is an under appreciated GEM. We went here on a friend's recommendation and she did not steer us wrong because this place was one of the best restaurants I've been to in Portland. 10/10.
Be the first to ReplyOma's has been on my list for quite some time.
Restaurant is dimly lit, perfect for a date night or outing with friends. Highly recommend coming with a group so that you can try multiple plates, as they are intended to be sharables. Opted for a booze-free evening, but the cocktails were fun and sounded delightful. Forgot to take pics, but went for Dumpling Week. Loved the addition of tofu with the dumplings, but sadly disappointed that the order only came with two (because they were SO good!). Our group also ordered the Roti, Turnip & Apple Curry, and the Sambal. The parsnip & squash curry sauce served with the roti should be bottled! I was seconds away from licking the dish dry LOL.
Be the first to ReplySome of the best food I've ever had.
Truly a treat and I highly recommend the pork and the curry + roti combination.
Be the first to ReplyFun, funky and yummy Asian fusion in a hipster part of town.
Enjoyed the food and ambiance - service was adequate but not overly great. Would go back and try more items. Recommended
Be the first to ReplyWalking in, you relish at the smells and spices in the air.
Instantly, I remember home cooking of my childhood. Sorry, didn't get to take photos of food because we started eating as soon as service dropped dishes on table! Please visit and make sure to make a reservation!

Just go and go now!! I can pick up the corn fritters and drink the peanut sauce out the bowl. The roti was so flaky and airy. Coconut rice was made to perfection & the Char Siu platter.....pork belly melts in your mouth. If I could go here every.single.day. I would.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is beautiful.
The ambiance is lovely, with decorated flowery sparkly everything. The tablecloths were iridescent rainbow fake snakeskin. Incredibly cool. They sat us immediately and the server was very sweet. She recommended two dishes per person and my friend and I soon realized this would not be a cheap dinner by any stretch. We ordered the beet salad, the roti with curry sauce, the shrimp, and the char siu pork platter. When the last item arrived, the server asked if we had ordered rice. We didn't realize the dish was literally just pork slices on a plate with no starch. So we ordered rice, which took an additional 10 minutes to get to the table. It was a standard cup or so of jasmine rice and they charged $6 for it which seemed really excessive since it's rice. Really, this should just come with the dish. Everything tasted bright and delicious. It all came to the table rather quickly, and the drinks we ordered were also tasty. That being said, two rounds of drinks (at $15 each) and dinner for two totaled $140 which I felt was much more than the portions were worth. We were still a bit hungry after the meal. This is a special treat kind of place for those who can afford it, but I think it might be too rich for my blood.
Be the first to ReplyI ate here for the first time and Sunny was our waiter.
He was really informative and helpful with all my questions. Normally I am pretty skeptical about whether the portions or description is really accurate, but Sonny was on point with it and his advice to get a couple dishes to share. You can tell that he eats the food there from the way he talks about each dish. The ambiance of the place was chill and intimate. It was a little dark, but I enjoyed the decor. The food was flavorful and my only wish is that the portions were a little more for the pricing, but I would definitely come back for to try out more of their food.

I came here for dinner with a friend during Dumpling Week and we were not disappointed! For our drinks, I had the Every Hero Needs a Villain and my friend had the As Good As a Wink. I really enjoyed my drink, but my friend found hers a bit too strong.Obviously, we had to order the dumpling special - pork and shrimp wontons in chili oil. We also ordered the Baby Back Ribs and the Roti Canai. Everything came out quickly and tasted delicious! My favorite dish was definitely the ribs since they were packed with herbs and flavor. The roti was good too, but a bit small for the price. There were also three separate occasions in which different servers tried to bring us orders of roti that we did not order. For dessert, we each had a Rice Crispy Treat. It was chewy, sweet, and tasted a bit like pandan. I would go back just for another of these! This spot is adorable and we had a great time. It is definitely a bit pricey, but the food was amazing. Other than the repeated confusion with the roti from other servers, our initial server was very friendly and attentive. It was very busy so I'd recommend making a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyI'm sure I could go 5 stars but only been once.
That one time was a 5star experience. I love the psychedelic vibes. The order the food came in felt like a dream with ribs first everything in between and the salad coming in at the end. And incredibly the Jell-O shot dessert was a very good decision. It was herbally, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. I look forward to coming back with a bigger group and trying everything!! Nom nom! Service was very welcoming also. Great job y'all!!

Love Malaysian food and I have had it in the states and abroad from Malaysia to Hong Kong. The service was decent. Oma's is "fusion Malaysian" to be generous. Please avoid this place if you genuinely like authentic Malaysian food or your wallet. They didn't even have Teh Tarik on the drink menu. Overall, went as a group and everyone was so hungry afterwards, we had to get food elsewhere. Curry was overly sweeten and so small that my friends thought it was a sauce dish instead of the curry. Roti was nice and crispy but for $16, I would expect more than one roti and curry. The laksa was horrendously not filling for $19. Corn fritters were decent but same problem with the curry also applied here.

Absolutely penomenal! Everything we had was incredibly flavorful and delicious, each dish thoughtfully prepared with a variety of flavors that came together like a symphony. There are not many places in Portland where you can get SE Asian food in such unique and tantalizing preparations. First, we ordered cocktails. That in itself was a challenge as every drink sounded delicious! Just like the food, cocktails are created with several ingredients that add their own distinct flavor and simultaneously create a cohesive drink. The names of the cocktails are equally inventive. Since I like a bit of heat in my cocktails, I went with Every Hero Needs a Villian, a tequila based drink with mango, wasabi, lime leaf, Aperol, peach and a chili salted rim. Fabulous, but definitely needed more tequila. With recommendations from our waiter, we chose several plates so that we could try a variety of items. This is definitely the way to go at Oma's Hideaway. And even though we ordered four dishes, there are so many more we wants to try. The sweet potato dumplings (5) were lovely, the green curry sauce had a hint of spice from the drizzle of chili oil, but nothing overpowering. Tooped with crispy shallots and roasted peanut, I could have devoured all five on my own!The Roti is a must! The homemade Malaysian flatbread was light, fluffy and also crispy. Dipped in the curry, every bite elicited an oooh or aaaahh. For protein we had the Char Siu platter that came with bbq pork belly and slices of rice spice pork cocoa; and brown buttered shrimp in a coconut lime leaf sauce. Both excellent choices, the shrimp being my fave. Oma's Hideaway is the creation of the owners of Gado Gado, another standout. Both restaurants are popular because they live up to the hype. My advice is book a reservation So you are guaranteed a table. What the website didn't indicate is that reservations are for 90 minutes. We we're not aware of the limit and ordered a glass of wine after dinner. Two wins in, the host came over to let us know we had gone past our allotted time and that the next reservation was waiting. It was embarrassing - so I'm putting this in my review to save you the same. Wish they would have told us when they seated us. Still rating 5 stars because food, cocktails, ambiance and waiter were all off the charts fabulous.
Be the first to ReplyWe've been 3 times now.
... The first was okay, not super impressed with the food. The second time it was delicious, we had great service, and it was an all-around fun night there. Then Valentine's Day was our 3rd. The worst service ever and food was very average. The waiter seemed put out by the idea that we wanted wine with our food, and we were half way finished eating by the time it arrived. He dropped the check without asking if we wanted anything else. There won't be a fourth time.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food! Fun music, great people.
I've eaten inside and out and both are fun with attentive service. Highest recommendation.

Walked into this vibrant location during the heat wave and immediately felt cooler simply due to the kindness of the people there. We were seated outside in the patio and enjoyed wonderful service with a limited menu selection with dishes that required less heat to prepare to protect the cooking staff, love that !Our food and drinks were amazing and I can't wait to return when the full orders are available.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is outrageously delicious AND adorable.
I love the patio seating, and even noticed the staff put out iced water bottles for anyone that needed it during this past weekends heat wave- a love a place with heart. My husband and I came in with another couple this past weekend, and as I mentioned it was over 100 degrees so when we came in they had a special menu of mostly all cold items. Totally makes sense given the weather. We ordered a few slushy cocktails that I hope are on the menu next and about 4-5 dishes to share and everything was excellent. I've only been the one time, so I am not sure how this menu compares to their normal menu but I will definitely be back to find out!
Be the first to ReplyI think the wonton mee was probably one of the 2-3 best
I think the wonton mee was probably one of the 2-3 best things I had in my nearly weeklong trip to PDX. Great mix of textures and salty/sweet that I always like in malaysian/indonesian/singaporean food. The roti canai was unsurprisingly good (it almost always is), as was the curried pea shoots (which were a little pricy for the portion). I was somewhat disappointed in the game hen. Although it was pleasingly tender it was just much too salty. This type of food is salty in general but this tiny bird was taking that to a whole new level. Not sure if it was from being brined too heavily but something was up.
Be the first to ReplyDrinks and food are great.
Only reason I did not give it a 5 is due to the pricing of the drinks. Far more speedy than some other equally as great places - we will just have to make it a "special occasion" place
