My foodie friends and I (i don't really consider myself a foodie because I would eat just about anything if i am hungry) were discussing the validity of michelin stars: who are these people judging the excellence of food?; how do they get selected to be the judges?; how do they stay objective when so many factors other than food itself affect the dining experience?; and finally, do these people know the quality of Asian food? Also, is it just us or michelin 3 stars restos are smug about their 3 stars status and don't really try as much especially with the service? According to NYT, as of 11/14/2017, Okuda Paris is still unstarred but who gives a f*** about michelin stars when the food and the service are just top notch and far surpass any of the 3 michelin stars restos I tried. (not that many but i did and my friends had a horrible experience at this very famous 3 starred resto in Paris) Since I am not much of a food critic I can't describe the food much other than I cried a little when I tried the grated turnip soup with shortneck clams/scallops, the grilled red mullet, and apple sorbet/compote/mousse dessert. Wagyu was juicy and tender like a dream too with the fresh wasabi and I am not much of a red meat person. 198 euros per person for dinner without any alcohol but expect to be treated like a special envoy from a very important country. The executive chef, his apprentice, all the wait staff and the maitre d' are all thrilled to be working there and it shows. What an amazing place.
