Food was 4+ stars Service was barely 3 stars and thus the avg 4 stars We asked if we can sit at counter. They said they are full but there was room the whole time we were there. Bizarre. We ordered nigiri but didn't get any wasabi or ginger. When I asked for it, the waitress said oh do you want some? Ah. Yes since it usually comes with nigiri. We also had to ask for low sodium soy sauce. It feels like this place has high quality food but forgot that service need to be on par Now to the food - agedashi tofu was yummy 4 star - seared wagyu beef roll. 5 stars - toro nigiri 4 stars - ikura nigiri 5 stars - gomae 3 stars - Hokkaido scallop special roll 4 stars - hamachi carpaccio 4 stars We probably will try it again but hope the service will be better next time.

My husband and I decided to come here for an early Valentine's Day date. We went to omakase the year before for my birthday but wanted to try their rolls. Service was very quick and our waitress was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Our server Simin recommended the Uni nigiri, Otoro-nigiri, and the Shinjuku nigiri 10/10. The uni was creamy and had no flavor of the sea. The Otoro was so buttery and flavored deliciously. One roll I regret not getting two orders of is the shinjuku rolls which has snow crab, avocado topped with a A5 wagyu beef and a dipping sauce that made the dish much better. Neo Tokyo roll was 7/10. It was one of their special roll made with crunchy spicy blue fin, topped with zuke toro, creamy mayo, and yuzu tobiko. Personally felt like it was bland and for the price of $26 I would skip. My husband ordered the crunchy hamachi roll. I'm Not a big fan of fried rolls but he enjoyed it. We also ordered yakitori and a salmon avocado. The yakitori was very juicy and a great palate cleanser to end our meal. Good fish quality but a little on the pricey side the other establishment. Still recommend people to try.

This. Place. Is. So. Freaking. Gooooood! We were lucky enough to receive a gift card and stopped in for dinner before a performance at the symphony. Absolutely everything about our experience was immaculate, from the service, to the ambiance to the incredible food. We ordered a wide array of items because they had so many of our favorites to choose from, especially multiple treatments of uni and kanpachi. We savored every bite, each dish was so savory but light with umami off the charts. We literally have nothing bad to say about any aspect of our meal and will 1000% be returning as soon as we can. Do yourself a favor and stop in!

Ah, as I quote the famous Michelin guide "if youre on a bit of a budget and don't want to get Omakase next door, try out Okane!" This place is SPECTACULAR and exceeded my expectations! Price point - Reasonable and ~$150-200 is definitely enough for 2 people assuming you don't get sake and you're okay with a light beer Service is amazing. This is by far one of my favorite seafood restaurants up in San Francisco. It's located in a cute little restaurant that's right next to Omakase, and can be confusing to find at first. We almost walked into Omakase and got confused lol! All the fish and seafood was amazing quality. I'll always come back :)

Solid sushi rolls with good combination of flavors and fish! Not too expensive but definitely not cheap either.
Be the first to ReplyFirst, our server.
We sat at the counter and our sushi chef, Peb, was so sweet and helpful. I hope his name is Peb! I'm so glad he was our server. We felt like we were in Japan. Ok, that may sound crazy but it's true. The chef who was behind the counter with him was also very nice. It was our 31st anniversary! You are in for such a treat. Servers seemed nice enough. We almost did not come here, because of a review of a rude waitress/ host (lunch) at Okane who laughed at a patron and sent her the wrong way to the restroom. I truly hope she's no longer there. Second, everything was fresh. My favorite was the suggested sashimi. Not one questionable piece. My husband was blown away.... and so was I. We did not want the experience to end. The only piece we were meh about was the wagyu beef which wrapped bites of asparagus. Stick with the sushi and sashimi, and the tempura vegetables which were not greasy but perfectly and tastefully crunched. You can taste the delicious vegis. I could eat that every night. I wish we could go to Okane every night, greet Peb with his welcoming smile, sit at the counter, and eat lots of Okane's phenomenal offerings. This was all washed down with warm, then cold saki. A night to remember!! Thank you, we shall return!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious sushi.
Fresh. Yummy. I just wish they had some options without rice. Consider creating some keto rolls and this place would be 5 stars.
Be the first to ReplyI have visited this spot several times, and the highlights
I have visited this spot several times, and the highlights are consistent: fresh fish, pleasant service, and a wonderfully warm atmosphere that juxtaposes cozily with the more sterile Design District just outside its doors. This is the sibling restaurant to Omakase - I recommend focusing on the rolls here (particularly Akihabara and Harajuku) for the best bang-for-your-buck. This place is about the classics: good fish + white rice + a few basic ingredients. So while you won't be discovering any particularly innovative flavors here, you may find contentment with their freshly-ground wasabi and shockingly tender karaage. If you are here with a friend, I suggest ordering two rolls and an order of the karaage if you're hungry. If you aren't that hungry but want dessert, swap out the chicken for an order of the fried matcha ice cream. Overall, this place hits home for anyone looking for a cozy date night and some no-frills, high-quality sushi rolls. And if you're hoping for something even more fish-forward and upscale, there's Omakase right next door.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced for the quality and the ambiance.
Definitely not up to the Michelin recommendation anymore.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was delicious and fish was very fresh .
The rice on each piece was perfect texture and seasoned beautifully , MP our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the sake she gave us a good recommendation to pairing very well with our food .We had an incredible experience and will be back to try Omakase style next time .

Sushi was fresh; overall, a nice experience! What we ordered: - Agedashi Tofu (5/5): one of my favorite dishes here. The outer shell is not crispy but oddly, that's what makes the agedashi tofu so good here; probably the best I've ever had. Soup was flavorful and tofu was silky smooth. - Hamachi Carpaccio (4/5): great starter, well balanced and yuzu was on point - Lotus Chips (5/5): loaded with crunch and flavor especially when dipped in the wasabi aioli. - Harajuku (4/5): special roll was well made, contained fresh fish, crispy lotus root added a great crunch! - Beef Sukiyaki (5/5): dish contained rib eye, tofu, mushrooms, veggies, vermicelli. Very flavorful, great comfort food, perfect for colder days- Chef's Selection (4/5): fish quality was great but not the best - nothing special here. Out of all the amazing dishes, the agedashi tofu and beef sukiyaki stood out to me.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice, fresh sushi at an approachable price point.
My partner and I have been here a couple times and haven't ordered an appetizer or roll we didn't enjoy. I also like that they have a specials menu, which is fun for mixing things up a bit.

Stopped in for lunch SaturdayVery impressed with the sushi! Chefs were amazing and the attention to detail was exceptional. It's not an in and out situation... you must wait for it.. only one master chef and helper chef and someone in the kitchen. Very unique menu with a lot of uni and roe and some absolutely stunning flavor combinations in their rolls on the menu and the specials. 5starsFresh azf nigiri Servers were beautiful but very slow and borderline rude... not great at their jobs.. but was worth the wait for the excellent food.

Great neighborhood sushi restaurant, fresh fish, including Hokkaido uni, fantastic flavor profiles in rolls, great ambiance and music. Service is friendly and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful lunch a while ago at Okane.
Funny, passed by it a million times before finally going in, it's in a row of nice but non-descript glass storefronts where we usually end up at Starbucks. From now on it might be Okane!Well-done interior, Asian modern without being sentimental, food is innovative and considered, new yet familiar. Started with poki which was great, age dashi tofu equally good, then our usual hamachi and maguro sushi which were small delicious morsels. Great meal would definitely go back!
Be the first to ReplyThe first sushi restaurant I tried ever since I moved to
The first sushi restaurant I tried ever since I moved to the Bay Area. Okane did not disappoint, and I look forward to trying its sister restaurant Omakase. Make sure to make a reservation to either restaurant though. I got tempura quail eggs to start us off. It had novelty since I've never seen eggs coated in tempura batter before. I would skip it next time and eat more sushi. The specialty rolls are delectable if you're looking for some specialty sushi rolls that are more original than just a variation of a California roll. Their daily specials are delicious and contain a lot of fish that I have never seen served as sushi. I highly recommend the specials written on the board above the sushi chefs' heads.

Food was 5/5 We got the Shinjuku roll, Akihabara roll, and sake sashimi. All the rolls were delicious, particularly the Akihabara. The only reason I docked a star was because the Shinjuku roll was cold when it came out. Paying $26 for some cold A5 Wagyu was not the vibe, especially because I came here before and it was so much better when it was fresh. Service was mid, the waitresses seemed all over the place, giving orders to the wrong tables and not getting food to us for over 10 minutes. Overall, I would be back for the food, but would probably have to specify to give us the wagyu when it's still warm.

Is there any parking on this street? Why yes, there's a parking right next door. Please don't miss the sign, because we almost did!We came here for my for my friend's birthday, woot woot. It's a small little restaurant, but can seat a small party. Preferably, you should make reservation if possible. It can still get packed for the most part. The customer service here was immaculate. Our hostess has come by to pour drinks consistently, she asked if we needed anything on occasions, and she definitely made us felt welcome. They even pack the food for you to go if you need them to.I want to say for the most part, the food was delicious!1. Agedashi Tofu - We started with tofu. And, I would not say this was my favorite dish? As far as crisp tofu goes, it was more.. soft as it was sitting in the Dashi broth. 2. Toro Nigiri - You can never go wrong with toro! You're not a fan of sushi if you do not order the toro. I'm just saying.Also.. we ordered some rolls, but I completely forgot which one was which. Either way, still pretty tasty. Further more, definitely recommend.

The food here is amazing, it is pretty pricey in comparison but if you are a sushi lover and want the best and freshest this is it. We went on a Monday and had a reservation, it was for bar seating. So we asked if a table was available upon arrival. It was a few minutes of waiting which we were fine with. They did seem to be very busy unexpectedly for a Monday. We sat down and got served water immediately. After about 20 minutes our server finally approached us about what we would like to order, we had plenty of time to read over the menu so we put in our entire order right away with drinks, appetizers, rolls, and nigiri. After another 20 minutes, one of the rolls came, but nothing else. No wasabi or ginger, and none of the appetizers, nor drinks. The manager approached us with another roll, and we stated that we do not have any of our drinks. He was very rude and said 'your order was put in 11 minutes, and it's a full house.' That was a huge turn-off as that was the manager stating that to us. Other than us, the entire time before and after he spoke with us he would just walk around and spectate, as the other two servers were running around and doing their best. It was such a disappointment to be treated with such arrogance. I would recommend ordering takeout as the space is nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyMy friend and I went here the day after New Year's Day
My friend and I went here the day after New Year's Day (before going back to work), so we wanted to celebrate with sushi. This place is part of the Omakase group (on my hit list to try). And this place has some a la carte options, so I wanted to go here for a more casual dinner. The sushi chefs and servers are all very nice and helpful. My friend and I got the chef's choice 10 piece sushi which was SO good. But 10 pieces is never enough for me, so we ordered a bunch of extra fish which is delicious (but price adds up quickly). They have the rice tea here (genmaicha) which I love, and our server refilled our teas throughout the night (after one request at first), but then she kept refilling for us. :)Both the sushi chef and our server made a couple of recommendations of fish, and they were ALL so good! Would definitely come back here. My only advice is if you have a large appetite and don't want to spend a ton of money, maybe get a cooked dish or two to try to fill up faster. Otherwise, focus on the fish because they're all so good!
Be the first to ReplyI don't know what the dine-in experience is like, but this
I don't know what the dine-in experience is like, but this review (and I don't like leaving bad reviews) is for a delivery order we had recently. We ended up not eating and throwing out the majority of our order. Here's what happened. Ordered a Dragon Roll and got a roll that wasn't even listed on the menu. Seriously...it had cucumber and avocado and some shiny, slimy looking fish on top. The CA Roll said snow crab and it was CLEARLY made with imitation krab. So, then I looked on their website and it indeed says imitation krab but if you're not being honest on the delivery apps this is extremely misleading to your customers! At this point we are pretty irritated. Keep reading...The saba/mackerel was oddly cold. Like zero warmth to it. Even the sushi was warmer. When I bit into it it was overcooked and seemed old and definitely not seared, more like baked or broiled. We threw this out as well. The other items we ordered were pretty average, but this was the straw that broke the camels back. You would think a sister restaurant to Omakase would give you fresh wasabi and ginger, but nope to our dismay we received packets instead. I happened to look at the ingredients in the ginger and saw that it had aspartame in it. Yep...the same crap that is in your Diet Cokes. So...if you think after reading all of the positive four and five star reviews here are telling then think again. Our dinner was a flop and we were really disappointed at what we were hoping to be a decent meal.
Be the first to ReplyA great, underrated Japanese restaurant.
I went there a few times and the menu is somewhat small. Everything was good. They are a sister restaurant of Omakase next door so that speaks volume.- Sunset roll (special menu): great but can be spicy- Akihabara roll: my favorite since it has eel - Agedashi tofu: very good

Wow! I came here as one of my first restaurants in the Bay Area and it blew me away.I got the Sunrise roll which was a specialty roll under the current day's specials. I usually don't like sushi that much but I really liked this roll! The combination of the mango, bluefin tuna, and salmon really blended together well and made me enjoy this meal so much.Overall I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough!
Be the first to ReplyThe service is amazing.
The Ginza roll is life changing. Paired with Yuzu flavored sake and an order of Hamachi belly sashimi is not to be missed. The hamachi carpaccio is stellar too. The fresh water salmon was very smooth. The spicy tuna roll was my least favorite but only because the other ginza roll was out of this world.
Be the first to ReplyThe appetizers, sushi and service were spot on.
Definitely worth your time and money.
