Nyonya New York Reviews from The Last Year
Delicious Southeast Asian food, good prices, cash only.
Loved the stir fry noodles. Definitely will be back for a casual meal or goto takeout. Friendly staff and lowkey casual dining ambiance.
This place has changed especially pricing and food quality
This place has changed especially pricing and food quality from a long time. I ordered 20$ for half a chicken and the quality is so bad. The chicken is does not even taste fresh at all and you can tell the chicken is from a small chicken. Even the color looks oddly off and the meat is falling off the bone which normally doesn't happen 20$ for half a chicken is somewhat crazy to be honest. Won't be coming back here ever again. Service is pretty bad already anyway even just at the register.

Went there last night and was very disappointed with the food. I ordered the Roti Canai and it was warm and dry as if it was made for someone else and left on the table waiting to be picked up. As soon as I started tearing into the roti, it crumbled apart. Next was the Masa Lemak with beef. It was salty and the meat was shopped up so much, it got lost in the brown sauce. I did not even finish my plate which is uncommon for me. I've been to this place many times in the past and had a pleasant meals but not last night. Maybe it was a one off but I hope it's not a sign of how things will be in the future. Other than that, the ambiance and service was nice.

Nyonya is one of the most popular go to restaurant for Malaysian. Simple, cash-only, unassuming place to get your hainanese chicken, and roti canai fix. The food always delivers each time. Can't go wrong with hainanese chicken (if you're a fan. I'm not), roti canai, and an order of a vegetable dish. Ambience is dark wood furniture. Simple and clean with fast service. 8/10 I do recommend
Very tasty food, somewhat attentive service.
We had the roti, so different from Caribbean roti, and absolutely to die for curry sauce. Also squid, vegetarian "duck" and coconut rice. Cash only establish, posted absolutely everywhere.
This was THE PERFECT place for a rainy day lunch.
What impressed me the most was that for the food we received, our total bill came out to less than $30! Boyfie and I shared a Hainanese half chicken, chicken broth rice, and ginger duck noodle. I don't know what their secret was to making all the meats so tender, but I felt like I was in food heaven. Probably one of the most memorable Hainanese chicken dishes I've had in a while. The ginger duck noodle soup was also very fragrant and flavorful. Usually, duck can be a fatty meat, but that didn't feel like the case at Nyonya (a good thing!) Cannot recommend this place enough. It's safe to say that I'll be back here during my next NYC trip.
Beautiful restaurant.
Food was great- we had the duck. The shrimp and chicken dishes. The dessert was amazing. - a shaved ice with rose water flavor and can't describe the rest. Very interesting and delicious.

Food and service was great! All the dishes were very flavorful. My favorites were the chicken satay and beef rendang with coconut rice. I would highly recommend Nyonya as a place to go. Cash only.

My sister and I have been coming to Nyonya for over a decade; it is hands down our favorite spot for Malaysian food and quite possibly one of the very best New York City has to offer. Over the years, we've brought both close friends and family members who have had nothing but praise for the food. The service and wait time varies from visit to visit, but the food more than makes up for it. Faves/Must Orders: * Roti Prata * Pad Thai * Hainanese Chicken with Rice * Curried Chicken with Rice * Sizzling Beef with Black Pepper * Pulut Hitam **CASH ONLY!
I was looking for good Malaysian in the area, and this
I was looking for good Malaysian in the area, and this place came through! It was fairly busy with Asians on a weekday at lunch hour, which is always a good sign. I got the roti canai, which was my first ever roti canai, so I admit I don't have much to compare it to. It was 10/10 delicious and a must-order when you come here. The roti is paper-thin and shatters into beautiful shards as soon as you break into it. It's light, crispy, and not too oily. The curry is flavorful and even had some meat in it. The portion is quite generous too, so it's a pretty good value. I also got the beef rendang rice plate, which again, came with a generous portion. The beef was very tender and flavorful, but it was a bit wetter and quite a bit greasier than other beef rendangs I've had in the past. The oil formed a puddle all around the outside of the beef and made this quite a heavy dish. I could only really manage a few bites of this after the roti canai. Luckily the leftovers reheated nicely. The restaurant itself is quite nice inside (nice enough for a date night), and my waiter was fine, though I was annoyed that he packed my beef rendang and rice all in one container without asking me how I wanted it packed or letting me pack away my leftovers on my own. Since the rendang was so greasy, this meant the rice became drenched in oil. Note that they are cash-only!
Embarrassing invitation to end dinner
Nothing special on the menu. The waitress who stares at you so that you leave the restaurant at 9.35 am and that they clean the floors while I finish dinner is embarrassing
Not a bad choice
Our dishes were good and simple. Nothing to dream about. Service very efficient. The place is midway between a restaurant and a big fast-food. Prices ok.

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
