Too expensive for a lot of disappointments!
Nice atmosphere and service. The dishes sorely lack balance and cohesion, which is a shame. Pairing truffle / basil / turnip / duck / red fruit juice was not to my taste. Nor the brie mousse (very salty) and the caramel tiles (very sweet). Same for the sweet and sour dessert, with popcorn ice cream too salty for me. Between two meat dishes, you will be served a vegan dish. Why not, but again it lacks cohesion. The food and wine pairing is respectable but only 2 small sips per glass is seriously very, very cheap. Very ordinary experience, not justifying the very high price in my opinion.

My favorite restaurant of 2022. Very small and intimate. A gastronomic gem. Exceptional service. Delicious cocktail. The food was elaborate and refreshing. I can not wait to return to.
Be the first to ReplyHalf flesh, half fish
A rather surprisingly creative table but on a gastronomic level, it is depressingly poor! The duck breast was served cold and was as hard as a boot sole; only protein intake from a six-course meal. For the rest, Lilliputian portions: a few leaves or pieces of vegetables to feed the children. A meal accompanied by the deafening atmosphere of a low-end bistro, with small tables and uncomfortable chairs. The service was cadaverously slow. Went in at 7:30 p.m., we left at 11:00 p.m. all sore. In short, it's extremely expensive for what it is.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful, hip, fun restaurant with outstanding food and service.
Il Flottante is not only the best restaurant in Montreal, it's one of the best restaurants on the planet. The food is literally mindbogglingly creative, and the service is impeccable yet super-friendly. I never visit Montreal without dining at Il Flottante!
Be the first to ReplyGone downhill…
We have been coming to Ike flottante since before it changed names. Last night our meal disappointed us for the price/portion and range of flavours delivered. The fish course which in my opinion was the best was so small, and the beef carpaccio was overdone and a tiny little slice of meat. For 110 we were expecting the similar portions as last year which had been phenomenal. The best part was the bottle of wine perfectly chosen by the sommelier. We liked all the staff, service was super attentive.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a falling off is here
The level of this place has dropped precipitously. It used to be distinguished by an intimate and cozy atmosphere, with relaxed but sophisticated service and refined, interesting courses. The mood now feels disorganized and frantic, yet the service is slow, somewhat overbearing, and frankly immature. The staff seems overwhelmed and overcompensating — wine pairings were served totally out of synch with the courses, as though there was no coordination between the kitchen and the servers. All of this created a weird mood, tense and frustrating, at a restaurant whose strength used to be its mellow and warm approach to relatively fine dining. That’s gone. At this price level, the food itself was disappointing. Style has trumped substance, but the style itself is routine: a smear here, a foamy sauce there, and one is supposed to not notice that the dishes at the center of the sequence are underwhelming and not exactly poorly prepared, but certainly not impressive — for example, the “beef carpaccio” which is really a tiny rare piece of steak buried under sheaves of beets, is a dish which amounts to self-parody. The wine pairings were mediocre and often…not even wine — we started with a local cider, followed by sake, before arriving at 3 courses of serviceable but, again, underwhelming whites and reds before descending into the desert wine. One comes here ready for expensive meal but ends up *having* to think about the price, because the experience is charmless, and not even close to the level of an $800 meal for 4, Unfortunately, that’s the feeling we left with at the end of our meal.

Service of Nov 23rd was unacceptable. It took 1.5h to get the first course; total meal lasted 5 hours, extremely slow and chaotic service. We had 4 different servers, all confused and poorly trained. Atmosphere was tense with all the tables frustrated and witnessing the kitchen chaos. To top it off, we were charged 125$ per person although the website marks it at 110$ - false marketing!!! Unacceptable. We were looking forward to this experience but left extremely disappointed.

A definite Michelin star experience. The food is stunning, innovative, conceptually exciting and flawlessly executed. The Chef Sean excitingly challenged our palate with each dish of the 6 course Dégustation, it highlights the energy and ambition of a fearless and accomplished chef. The wine pairing was perfect thanks to the deeply knowledgeable, passionate and delightful sommelier. I'll definitely visit this gem whenever I have a chance.
Be the first to ReplyEating at Ile flottante
A true disappointment! Went to celebrate something important for our family and I truly regret that I chose this place! We went in the past at this restaurant and we enjoyed the innovative cuisine but the this time I had the impression that they changed the cook and the whole concept The salmon and the duck overcook, very salty sauce, the dessert very mediocre, the portions really minuscules The tag price was absolutely ridiculous for the quality and quantity of the food I will not return to this restaurant and advise everyone to save their time and money and choose an another restaurant

Went here on 9/21 for the 6-course, vegan tasting menu. Before that, I was whatever the opposite of a foodie is. Now I don't know who or what I am anymore. Existential angst has never tasted so good.
Be the first to ReplyDeserves a Michelin Star!
We went back after a 3 year hiatus (covid) and once again had one of the best dinners we've had in years (probably since the last time we were here). They serve a 7 course tasting menu which was beautifully plated, and every bite was a taste sensation. If Montreal restaurants ever get Michelin stars this place should be at the top of the list. We've eaten at various other top restaurants in Montreal but we always go back to Ile Flottante when we can. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
Be the first to ReplySuperb tasting experience laced with sincere charm!
We had a beautiful seven course tasting menu with paired wines at this restaurant and greatly enjoyed the experience . The food was largely based on fresh seasonal vegetables with a fusion of great flavours . Food preparation, flavour and presentation was outstanding. The wine pairings were thoughtful and a little different from he normal but that is why we appreciated the opportunity to try new selections. Staff were welcoming, fun and well versed on all the food and wine. Ambiance was charming and we highly recommend this restaurant . Booking is required
Be the first to ReplyA complete dinning experience not to be missed
We were looking for a dinning experience and not just a place that would plop down some good food in front of us, and Ile Flottante was perfection. From the way we’re greeted, and walked through each course the staff showed the love of the menu just as much as the chef did. Exceptional meal and experience.
Be the first to ReplyNeighborhood restaurant serving excellent creative vegetable-heavy chique food
The seven course chef creations were truly exceptional overall especially if you like a chef to think vegetable first. The drinks were also excellent and the service very thorough. The semi-casual neighborhood setting worked well with the food and the servers style. It was not romantic but was charming. The only real negative was that the table next to us had the loudest most obnoxious patron imaginable and the restaurant did nothing on their own to attempt to make it more pleasant for other patrons.
Be the first to ReplyVastly overrated, especially with cheap awful wine pairing
Truly awful selection of paired wines; from Greece, Portugal, South Africa and one Sake. For discerning customers - suggest you avoid this cheap and really not enjoyable option. It’s unfortunate because some of the food was great, but you could see some similar ingredients used in different dishes. One was overpoweringly strong in mustard. I have been to many tasting menu (best Being Chez Muffy and Pierre Gagnaire) so maybe my expectations were high and this restaurant was certainly very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing tasting menu!
This restaurant is very special. Customers are offered a tasting menu, which I understand may change from time to time. We enjoyed a 7 course dinner. Each dish was an explosion of flavours. The ingredients were fresh and the portion sizes perfect. The server described every dish, each so unique yet difficult to remember in great detail. Instead I show some photos.
