NALAAS South Indian Restaurant Derby Reviews from The Last Year
Truly unbeatable
Nothing beats Nalaas, we’ve been so many times and keep returning. There is no Indian like it. Amazing food, reasonable prices and amazing staff. We are lucky to have this restaurant!!!!
Simply outstanding
A little while since I visited, just so good. From the outside it looks like a shed, inside it’s a modern minimalist restaurant. The front of house staff were so charming and helpful, but the kitchen staff produce wonderful South Indian specialties. All 3 courses, bit greedy were cooked with care and precision. From the dosa through paneer to the semolina dessert, they were all exquisite. Wish I hadn’t waited for 2 years before I came back. Final point, value is better than anywhere else. Go there, but Dave a chair for me!!
The food was good.
I'll get that out of the way. We went on a Saturday afternoon for the buffet. We waited for about five minutes at the front because no one was around. There was, however, one lady off on the side by the bar who was intent on studying her phone, so she didn't see us and someone else seated us. The buffet was good. Everything was labeled and most of what I had was delicious, with the exception of the mutton rice. The real draw, however, was the lack of air conditioning. I can't tell you what the temperature was outside, but it was high enough that this place should've been running its AC and not propping the front doors open and running fans. Also, someone cooked up a big batch of onions and/or garlic in the kitchen, which is fine because it's a restaurant, but the lack of ventilation was a bit much. Do better with your presentation and customer service.
Excellent as always!
One for those who like real Indian food cooked well.Huge menu for tiny place.Charming service and usually full so book in advance.
i've passed by this place many many times and it seems
i've passed by this place many many times and it seems closed or empty, i figured maybe it wasn't too good but i finally went to go see what this place was about and man let me tell you this was absolutely the best indian food i've ever had hands down. i love indian food and i've been to many places, especially in houston which is renowned for its indian cuisine options - Nala's was amazing. the portions were good, the food was filling, the meats are tender, seasoned well. my only complaint is that i wish it was a little more spicy, as the spice level choices don't really matter. all in all, the ambiance was nice and felt homey. it smelled good in there, indian spices. the owners were fantastic and nice.
Wow! what amazing food
Wow! What an amazing place. Went with friends on their recommendation. The exterior is very unassuming and the interior is quite basic- but comfortable and perfectly adequate to enjoy your meal. the staff are very welcoming and always smiling. The food- just wow!! This is a curry house with a difference. The flavours are awesome and you may find dishes you have never tried before. Those dosas are really lovely. Plain or with different fillings. The fish curry was delicious. Very busy on the Saturday we went. Cash only. Well worth a visit. Menu describes food as Southern Indian.
Best Tamil restaurant in Derby
The best south Indian restaurant so far. The food was incredibly delicious. We had an amazing time of foodgasm there. Tried Mysore masala dosa, chicken fried rice, chicken biryani, Malabar porotta, and lamb dum biryani. Out of these I fell in love with the lamb dum- the best ever that I've eaten in the UK - the meat was perfectly cooked with the biryani flavour proportionate throughout. I would highly recommend Nalaas to everyone who wants to taste some Tamil flavours and I can bet that you would not be disappointed...
Best curry in the UK without a doubt from a well travelled curry fan.
Fabulous authentic Indian food. Best I've ever had actually. Staff were so friendly and helpful and even though it was packed they still gave service with a smile. Curries were fresh and tasty and rice was perfect 👌 it is a cash only restaurant.
The best place for southern Indian food in Derby
We’ve been here a few times and it’s just such delicious food and friendly personal service. Highly recommend the masala dosa and the goan fish curry…and the parota….and the paneer starter…oh and the lamb. All just so delicious. Hot means hot 🥵 so order with care!! It’s a small restaurant with unassuming yet clean and inviting interior. Great value for money and would 100% choose this over any of the larger more up-market Indian restaurants in Derby. Make sure you book - it gets busy!
Hidden Gem
Our first visit and it certainly won't be our last. The place was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. We had a Dosa and Gobi Manchurian as starters (note to self the Dosa is quite the largest I have seen and maybe too big as a starter!), very nice indeed and the dip (samber I think) that came with the dosa was a revelation. As mains we had the kadai (similar to a karahi in other sub continent areas) - we had a chicken and lamb kadai. Excellent as was the pillau rice, and the chapatti was superb, thicker than normal and with a hint of filo pastry about it. With Kingfisher on tap it was a memorable meal.
I wish some of these Indian restaurants would put a little
I wish some of these Indian restaurants would put a little more effort into customer service. I arrived at the restaurant around 6-6:30pm. There was a couple standing in front of me. We stood there at the entrance, waiting to be seated for maybe 3 mins. No sign of anyone. I picked up my phone and just called up the restaurant. Finally someone came out of the kitchen to answer the phone and she realized it was me calling her. She got us seated. Everything was digital, so there was no need for me to wait for any service. -- Gobi Manchurian : such a disappointment, it tasted more ketchupy and didn't have the semi crispness that it should have ++ Chicken appetizer: loved it ++ For the entre, I ordered the mutton dish. I thought it was a 4/5. The parathas that accompanied this complimented it's taste -- Masala dosa: I can't believe that they would completely mess up the chutneys. IDK if it's cost cutting, but the chutneys were bland. I'd even say they over diluted it with water. What a shame
Restaurant specializes so much in take out orders that
Restaurant specializes so much in take out orders that going there to eat is a frustrating experience. I was really excited to have South Indian food but I was very disappointed in the quality and taste. Have tried this place a few times just because they are close by and a couple of times I got food poisoning from eating their food. Will not go there again!

Stopped here for lunch after seeing Lunch combos on their menu. That looked interesting and opted for it ahead of the other buffet place. The location was quite weird. Wasn't sure whether the GPS was taking us to the right place until we arrived. It pretty much looked like an office building. The interior is nicely done. They have a very nice waiting area, well decorated. There weren't many customers around when we arrived. We were seated on the far side of the restaurant. No menu available. We have to scan the QR code and order on the app. We went ahead and ordered the lunch combo. They have one appetizer, choice of 2 curries, rice, bread and dessert for $12.99. Looked pretty decent. Picked up Chicken curry & Veg chettinadu for first combo and chicken & paneer butter masala for the other. Also ordered a chicken 65 on the side. Almost took them 15 minutes for the dood to arrive. Talking about the combos, it disappointed me. The chicken curry was good - flavorful. The Paneer masala was underwhelming! What they served as Veg Chettinadu was not even close to what that dish really is. I thought it was Sambar and they made a mistake. The guy who served the food and also the lady who was in charge - both tried their best to convince that it was Veg Chettinadu. They even served me a bowl of sambar to prove it. The best part was Chicken 65. It was really good. Well cooked, but not oily, flavorful and delicious! Happy that we ordered that on the side. Their menu is very big. So many options. The Combo was really underwhelming. But the Chicken 65 gave the hint that their ala carte might be a better option. But very much disappointed with the food!
Way too big of a menu, the price is great, just sell less
Way too big of a menu, the price is great, just sell less stuff and master those dishes because a lot were mediocre.
We came here on Sunday and caught the buffet.
It was delicious. Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. I've eaten in many Indian food restaurants and most of the dishes were spot on in the buffet. Chai tea was complimentary with refills. Prices were very good and I will definitely return, which is high praise. Their location isn't great so look for, it's worth the hunt.
Very tasty food, Good customer service, Nice place to go
Very tasty food, Good customer service, Nice place to go out with family and friends.
Fabulous food!
Great place to eat! Food delicious Service excellent Prices reasonable Can’t fault it. Hopefully they’ll either takeover the shop next door or move, so they don’t have to turn guests away. It’s always busy.
Nice ambience and good quality South Indian food.
Must try their weekend buffet. Friendly staff and good customer service
This is a mixed bag review.
Walked into a completely empty restaurant, which could have been assumed as being closed, partial lights, no tables set. Understand it was a Monday eve, but inviting it was not. I had friends meeting me so proceeded to alert that I was there, suddenly someone carrying take out pops out of the back. They pointed me one of the few 6 person tables in the restaurant, very tight and awkward to get in and out of. It did not feel dirty just old and rickety. The service was fine, nothing to write home about, the menu pretty extensive. Most of the time they were not in sight. Now without factoring the atmosphere/service the food was very tasty and satiating. Though we ordered 2 portions of samosas, 1 had 2 the other 3, 1 had chutney the other amli sauce, so strange! They do a solid take out business so forsee any future interactions to be just that. Take out.
I got take out on Christmas Day and really enjoyed my food.
I had to wait over 20 minutes past the given pick up time; I expected to wait a bit on Christmas Day, however, I would've preferred a more accurate pick up time as I rushed from my previous location to make sure I was there on time. They did offer free drinks to those waiting for food pick up, so that was a nice and thoughtful gesture. I ordered tikka masala, mild spicy, with double chicken and paneer. Very yummy! I couldn't imagine not getting double chicken; the serving I got did not feel like a double serving, so a normal serving must not be a lot. The paneer was perfectly made with the right amount of firmness and tartness. The curry was delicious. Besides the first naan on top, the garlic naan was lacking in the garlic department. It was still warm and soft, and soaked up the curry well. I left no crumbs! The mild spicy still had a good heat to it that was perfect for me. I had a decent tolerance for heat, so I was surprised I could still taste the heat. Be careful if you don't handle spice well!
We love the dosas at Nala's! My favorite is masala dosa
We love the dosas at Nala's! My favorite is masala dosa with sambar & coconut chutney. My kids love the plain dosas with sambar. We like the extensive menus and the staff. The online ordering in the restaurant they did briefly was NOT good, so I'm glad the last few times they've taken our orders in person.

Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate |
Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Question
Why is bidding higher for time between 5-11pm vs 6-7pm? Sometimes when I go to bid between specific hours it is like $20 and I don’t mind upping it but why does it start so much higher for the range? I don’t want a 10pm res.
