My wife and I had lunch here today.
It's so simple and amazing. We shared the smoked salmon and brown bread appetizer. I had the chicory and endive salad and my wife had the halibut. The food is tremendous, the services is courteous and outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyThe food, atmosphere, and service were all amazing.
We felt welcomed from the moment we walked thru the door. Our waitress had great recommendations. The cocktails of the moment, along with the dessert, were very good.

What a wonderful meal! I came here a couple of weeks back for Valentine's Day with my partner and we both left so pleased. It was our second time at Mulvaney's and everything was great as per usual. We made a reservation online, as I would recommend for anyone coming during dinner time just in case. It can get pretty full! We were seated promptly and greeted warmly by all staff members: the hostesses, the waiters walking by, other servers, etc. Everyone welcomed us in! We were guided around the menu and told about the specials, and decided to order one or two things from each category. I believe the house smoked salmon stays on the menu year round, and it's delicious! We ordered it last time we were here, and it's definitely a must-have. Another must have would be the spring onion tortellinis if it's still on the menu, definitely the most delicious meal of the night. All in all, a wonderful meal paired with warm, attentive service. Thank you to Mulvaney's as always!

Thank you so much for having us! The service is so wonderful, fun, warm, inviting, and not pretentious, but definitely knowledgeable and helpful to complement and recommend if you are interested or looking to add or supplement. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, with just the right lighting, adorable tableware, perfect music, and you literally never have to search for your server or wait for anything. There's also the option to sit at the chefs table. The aroma of fresh herbs and mouth watering deliciousness hits you the second you open the door. We chose the fresh chicory salad made with the most delicious, delicate herbs vinaigrette, straight from the chef's backyard, along with fresh oysters, caviar, ahi tuna, Harris Ranch black and blue steak, smothered in black truffles, and followed by the famous ding dong. All of the sides were prepared perfectly, fresh, and so incredibly delicious, we were very pleased with our server's suggestion of the champagne to go with the oysters, the small batch Smoke Wagon, to go in the rye manhattan, and the only complaint is that I've been in Sacramento since November and am just now finding this restaurant! Moving here from the East coast, to the East Bay, a few places in between, and now to Sacramento, this restaurant has now convinced me that there truly are some amazing teams in the area. Great job to all of you! From the hostesses to the gentleman who served the truffles, and all of those in between, chef has made an amazing dream team and should be proud of such an awesome place! I almost hate posting this and want to keep you a secret so you're not hard to get into but you deserve to be Michelin!

First time dining there, but won't be the last . The food and service were excellent !
Be the first to ReplyI made my reservation a month ago, and was very excited to
I made my reservation a month ago, and was very excited to try this restaurant because it came highly recommended to me. When my husband and I arrived, there were a number of empty tables, but the hostess tried to seat us at a bar, where another couple was also seated. When I asked for a proper table, which is what I expected with my reservation for my dining experience, the hostess begrudgingly brought us back to the hostess stand before seating us at a table for two. Someone came immediately with water and bread. And then we sat. As servers passed by our table many times in the 15 minutes we sat there, most of the time with our menus closed indicating we had decided and were ready to order, not one server even acknowledged us. During this time, I noticed plenty of restaurant staff walking around, so being short staffed didn't seem to be the issue. Finally, my husband flagged down someone and explained the situation. This server apologized, offered to take our drink order, and said he would find out what was going on. About 5 minutes later, our server came by and mentioned she knew our drink orders were taken, and did not offer any apology or explanation. We ordered our starter and entrees. The starter came before our drinks, which was odd because we had ordered our drinks long ahead of food. Our meals tasted good, though my husband's $48 sear ahi was over-cooked. We then ordered a dessert to share, and my husband ordered a coffee. The dessert came, but never the coffee, and our server never came by to check on us. We finally flagged her down, told her the coffee never arrived, and we'd like our check. No apology for the missing coffee, and she had no problem promptly returning with the check. As I looked to review it, she noted that she removed the starter and dessert from the bill because of the service. The thing is, I didn't come this restaurant (or any restaurant) for free stuff. I expected a nice, relaxing meal out on a rare date night with my husband. Instead, my evening was filled with stress and anxiety. Throughout this entire terrible dining experience, we never gave off a vibe of annoyance, but our server clearly just knew the service and our experience sucked. No freebies can change it, and that's just a shame. Side note: 3 middle-aged, obnoxious women were seated at the table next to ours. These hairdresser (I know this because they were speaking so loudly, sometimes to the point of yelling), were acting like drunken-sailors, with the mouths of truck drivers, throwing f-bombs throughout the evening. While I don't fault the restaurant for this (these women were a mere cherry on the top of our awful dining experience), the service staff or manager really should have asked them to keep it down. For the prices they charge, I expect exceptional service and food preparation. We received neither. Sadly, I cannot recommend Mulvaney's B&L.

My friend suggested Mulvaney's for my 50th Bday and please let me share that they did not disappoint! We had a private room, the staff (Anthony in particular) went above and beyond and the food was spectacular. On top of it all, my 11 year old was craving chicken friend rice, and the kitchen came up with a dish that kept him thrilled and fulfilled for the whole meal. We were so impressed with the whole team, food and overall experience. We will be back again soon! Thank you Mulvaney's for making it a night to remember!
Be the first to ReplyOverall: About a 3-star experience.
The boost of a 4th star because they were one of very few restaurants to offer a full menu without a lot of hype around NYE. That said, the service we received for NYE was pretty lackluster, compared to our previous visits. Our server was quite scattered - my first drink took about 25 minutes, and didn't come together with my partner's. He acknowledged the issue and apologized, and overall the attention was better afterward, but only in a "presence" way, not in an "attentive" way. In the end, when it came to attention - shout out to Becca and Johnny, who really came through. Thoughtful, engaging, fun. Appetizers were pretty average. I had to hunt for the burrata that was the whole reason I ordered it. My partner's turkey bacon chowder was average, too. The large plates (short rib and swordfish) and the drinks (a cabernet by the glass and an old fashioned with Amaro) were all top-notch, fantastic. Would recommend, but maybe not for a busy holiday.
Be the first to ReplyMy best friend took me here for my birthday and the food
My best friend took me here for my birthday and the food was amazing and staff very friendly. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and I still have dreams about it. I've even tried to recreate it at home but the chefs just know how to do it at Mulvaney's. One of the waiters was kind enough to take several photos of my friend and I and we greatly appreciated that. Will definitely be returning! The ambience is sensual, but not like your typical high end restaurant so it made it feel more cozy and romantic if you will

I feel like an idiot to have paid that much for such a poor meal, chipotle across the street would have had more flavor.
Be the first to ReplyEverything was cooked to perfection.
The service was outstanding. And the ambience was ideal for celebrating our anniversary. Eric, our server, took great care of us and paced out our entire meal so we never felt rushed but didn't feel like we were waiting either. The seasonal bruschetta with butternut squash and burrata was to die for. The scallops were seared beautifully. The duck was simply sumptuous. And the ding dong dessert is a must have! You will not regret anything.
Be the first to ReplyI booked reservations through Resy to celebrate my husbands
I booked reservations through Resy to celebrate my husbands wedding anniversary and promotion. Booking the reservations wasn't hard as I booked two weeks in advance. When we checked in, we were walked over to the main restaurant. Surprisingly, they sat us in one of their private rooms which I believe was the wine room. It was such a treat as I did not request a private room for our reservation. That said, our experience at Mulvaney's exceeded our expectations and what topped it off was the new 5 course meal that they just added. Sacramento is known for its farm to fork, and my husband didn't hesitate, we both selected the 5 course meal. Chef Michael did a wonderful job and every dish was just the right portion and my favorite dishes was the corned beef ravioli and New York/Scallop. What topped it off was having him sign our menu and their staff. A new tradition that I've been doing to celebrate our wedding anniversary & we framed this menu in our home. Thank you Mulvaney's for a very memorable evening!!
Be the first to ReplySome of the best restaurant food and service I've ever had.
Delicious, original and complex flavors. Cheerful service
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommend for special occasions or just because.
Food is always good. Relaxed fine dining atmosphere. The staff is always super attentive and if you catch the Owner/Chef, he's just as friendly. Very well put together restaurant. I've never had a bad meal here but the pork chop is pretty amazing. Large enough portion in my opinion for two to share. We order a salad and some appetizers with the pork chop to share and it leaves us room for the Ding Dong chocolate cupcake dessert. If Ding Dong's were a childhood treat for you, Mulvaney takes it to a whole new level. Save room for dessert for sure.

My wife adores the B&L so we HAD to come for our anniversary! As per usual, we were not disappointed. The food was very good. We started with the smoked salmon which was soft and very gently smoked, the only drawback was the soda bread was a too crumbly to stand up to a soft piece of smoked salmon! My only other complaint would be that we had to wait so long to get our cocktails that we had to send the appetizer back to give us time to sip and savor. After that, the timing came back into place. Our server was very friendly though not overly attentive, which I'm not going to count against her nor the B&L since it's SO hard to find people able to perform at the level required to be a great server so I understand she was stretched thin. I love the interior of the restaurant, which has a tendency to get a little loud. However, we had a nice table off to the side which was a little more quiet and allowed us to have some conversation.
Be the first to ReplyWe were losers for not having reservations.
But,.we were able to snag a couple seats at the bar. Dan and Maria are amazing! The food is always good but order the chev cheesecake. Get a port! Yum yum yum!
Be the first to ReplyWe went in on a very busy day.
But as I look at other reviews, it seems all days are busy. And for good reason. The food is outstanding. Bourbon selection is better then anything else I've seen in the area.We sat in the second building since a larger group reserved the main area. The owners pulled strings to get us a seat. We overstayed our welcome with great conversations (we were there's few hours) but the staff was friendly and service was great.
Be the first to ReplyThis Sacramento gem is ao easy to pass by, I know I have.

Romantic place to take someone you care for! Welcoming environment that makes you feel apart of the behind the scenes action. As someone who was in the industry for 10+ years, it felt like home right away. Oh, foods incredible as well.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for my birthday in Jan 2023.
Out of this world, for sure. I had seared scallops for my main course. It was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The food is so flavorful and appealing. We also had smoked salmon with Irish brown bread. Locally sourced bread and butter. Beets and burrata small plate. Assortment of cheeses with homemade crackers! Everything was over the top! I highly recommend going. Our server was very attentive, funny, and knowledgeable.Photos: seasonal menu, prickly negronis, dish room chandelier, duck breast main course, seared scallops main course, apple tart dessert, pork chop main course.

I went here for the the first time and hands down one of the best meals you will eat in Sacramento. The staff, the food, the ambience, all fantastic. If I was rich I'd go more often! Thank you Mulvaney's for a memorable experience. Get the pork chop and the persimmons with pulled mozzarella!

FOOD: Quality 5/5Presentation 5/5 Dinner started off with a charcuterie board displaying a fine selection of Curated meat. The pickled items complimented the meats very well. And the highlight of this appetizer had to be the imported Venison. The Sonoma County Duck Breast was the highlight of my night. Cooked to near perfection, the huckleberry demi accompanied the dish very well and didn't mask the flavor of the duck. Staff and chefs were absolutely amazing. Their warm and welcoming service really helped seal the deal on my 5 star review of this fine establishment. If you're looking for a great fine dining experience, definitely try to get a reservation here for dinner. Notes: Parking is very difficult to find Make reservations a week or so in advance Menu is on frequent rotation
Be the first to ReplyWent here just this past Weds evening.
Was excited about it because I heard good things. Boy was I wrong. The outside seating smelled like smoke from the bbq nearby the whole time I was there. The waiter seemed very rushed and stressed out about the banquet next-door attached to the business. My husband felt the acrid taste on his steak which the chimichurri tried to hide . The food was good overall and the people nice but I would not go back. Disappointed. Didn't even get dessert because I just wanted to be home and get out at the bad air it was affecting my eyes and throat

This was the most pretentious restaurant I have ever been to. Ribeye very expensive, thin, and not flavorful. Serving staff attentive, informative, but not overly friendly or down to earth . Summary , way too expensive for the quality of food. For the price I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn't by a long shot
Be the first to ReplyThe service was very good.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food was terrible. My wife ordered a green salad which arrived without dressing. We ordered tagliatelle supposedly with black truffle sauce. Though there were black bits of some vegetable matter floating around the dish, I question whether these bits were really shaved truffle. There was no aroma or taste of truffle at all. Also, we ordered a pork chop medium rare. It arrived well done, dry and tasteless. My wife doesn't like it when I fuss about food in a restaurant so I didn't complain at the time. However, such a poorly prepared meal cost me almost $200.00! I suggest eating at the nearby Chipotle instead and save your money.
