MR PORTER Amsterdam Reviews from The Last Year
Great fun
Mark Ronson and his team are amazing!!! If you’re lucky he might even DJ. Great fun, cocktails and food. Had a great evening.
I recently dined at Mr Porter and had a mixed experience.
Despite making reservations, we were initially seated at a cocktail table, which I had overlooked. The loud music made it nearly impossible to converse. On a positive note, the first course, a salad, was fantastic. However, the main course was a disappointment. We waited an hour and a half between our salads and our steaks, which arrived rare, still mooing , instead of medium as requested. The initial promise of a great dining experience was overshadowed by these issues, at this point we left. There techno music only got louder from there. It was 10;30 at this point!
Terrible service
Hello, we were staying at the Pulitzer, which recommended Mr. Porter for dinner. When we arrived, we were told our table was not ready and to wait in the lounge/bar. We sat down and waited 20 minutes - no one asked for our drink order. I had to get up three times to ask for service and finally someone wrote down our order. Five minutes later (without drinks) we were told our table was ready. It was a temporary table against a wall with no other tables nearby. We sat there 15 minutes until my husband flagged down a waiter. We finally got water and placed our dinner orders. Still no cocktails that were ordered 45 minutes ago. After one hour, we finally decided to leave because we did not have our drinks and had no confidence that our food would ever arrive. I have informed the Pulitzer not to recommend the restaurant to their guests again. It was such a disappointing experience.
The worst restaurant experience ever, and we've been in
The worst restaurant experience ever, and we've been in thousands of restaurants in many countries. Very rood host made us wait for an hour beyond our reservation time, then food (two steaks) took another hour and a half to serve. The meat was chewy and well undercooked. Very loud music and overall noisy atmosphere, almost was impossible to communicate to my wife across the table. Zero stars.
Unforgettable experience
Located in the heart of Amsterdam, Mr Porter is an exquisite restaurant that truly lives up to its name. From the moment you step inside, the refined ambiance, with its tasteful décor and soft lighting, sets the stage for a memorable dining experience. The menu boasts a delightful choice of gourmet dishes, each crafted with the finest ingredients and a creative touch that makes every bite a culinary masterpiece. The highlight was the impeccable service provided by a waiter, Arnold. His unique blend of courtesy and professionalism stood out from the very beginning. Arnold greeted us with a warm smile and a gracious manner that instantly made us feel welcome. Throughout the evening, he was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring our glasses were always filled and our needs promptly met. Arnold’s knowledge of the menu was impressive, and his recommendations were spot-on. He guided us through the various options, suggesting a perfect wine pairing that complemented our meals beautifully. His genuine enthusiasm for the food and his ability to anticipate our desires added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience. The entire team at Mr. Porter is commendable, showing efficiency and dedication at every turn. In a world where exceptional service can be hard to come by, this is a true gem. Their dedication to providing a top-notch experience, combined with the delicious food and elegant atmosphere of Mr Porter, makes this restaurant a must-visit. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an unforgettable meal, Mr Porter the whole equipe and Arnold’s great service will not disappoint.
Most wanted In the city
Everyone is recommending this place for a reason. It’s really good food and very nice view in a trendy place in the city center, W Hotel. Unfortunately it was cold and bad weather so we could not enjoy the outdoor and the view, however the service was very friendly and caring, excellent meat and also vegan options! Good portion and we left very satisfied.
Worst steakhouse ever!!!! Horrible service!
Worst steak I've ever had. Service is horrible. do not go! The hostesses have tons of attitude and are frankly look cheap.

Better the second time around! Came here 7 years ago and remember it being pretty good. This time was excellent. We sat at the kitchen counter and had the best time talking with head chef s and other guests. Delicious!
Second time and not the last!
Fist of all- LOCATION AND INTERIOR Second of all- APPETIZERS AND COCKTAILS And then main choruses come… This was my second time in this amazing restaurant but for sure i was surprised with quality and taste as it was my first! All recommendations!
Perfect place ti celebrate your birthday
It was my wife’s birthday and we went to a holiday dinner The food is extraordinary delicious. We tried almost all starters and finished with a large T-bone steak at the end. Make sure you order Beef Carpaccio
Overrated and under - performed
We were recommended to come for dinner by our hotel - the rooftop bar at the W is a great place to see the sun go down! The restaurant had a vibrant buzz about it on entry and a nice atmosphere. Dress codes a mix of customers wearing scruffy jeans and tee shirts to smart suites and dresses - it seems anything goes! You get excited when you see the beef aging in window chillers at the hostess stand. But it appears (based on previous write ups and my experience last night) that they have key issues with SLOW service. Really slow. We entered at 7.15pm and ordered drinks and an appetizer - at 8pm we got our drinks and starter. The dip for the artichoke starter came 10 minutes later after we’d about finished. Fresh bread baked in a special oven was good. The entrees (bone in filet ordered medium and came out rare) and lamb shank (good) came with broccoli (€16 for three small pieces of broccoli) - no wine and just two drinks, no desserts of coffees and a bill for over €200. We got the bill at 9.15, two hours after ordering our phone, and they weren’t that busy. There’s so much choice in Amsterdam - pick somewhere else !
I am spending my 61st birthday with my husband at this
I am spending my 61st birthday with my husband at this wonderful restaurant in Amsterdam. We had châteaubriand, we had artichoke , we had mixed chop salad and we had tiramisu as well. What a wonderful ambience with a view from the sixth floor -it was raining didn't get to sit on the deck. This is a wonderful five star experience.
Oh the view.
And the service. Listening to the mixologist (artists really) shake up something amazing while looking out at beautiful Amsterdam is indescribable. I have been here 3 days in a row for happy hour. LOVE We ate at Mr. Porter as well. See review for that.
Could have been better with service
Steak was good and cuts were at par with upscale steak places in the United States. We ordered the tomahawk special and a few more individual cuts, but were not allowed to take home the leftover steak. “They did not do doggie bags”. Service was slow and we had to wait long between requests for water and eventually gave up on dessert which looked amazing - but we just got annoyed waiting for a server. Poor lady was overwhelmed with the number of tables she had to cover. It would have been so much better if servers were more attentive and available given the price point of our meal.
DJ oriented steak house, expensive and overall not worth the money!
A lively place if you like DJ music over dinner. Food is expensive but good. Fried vegetables though was horrible! Wine list is way to expensive for ordinary wines. A decent red is over 100 Euros and wines around 60-90 Euros are many rated 3.6-3.8 on Vivino, not good! Service is good but if you are looking for a steak house you can do much better !
Great food, cool atmosphere, indifferent service
Wonderful atmosphere and the food was really good. On the pricey side and wines with 400% markup, which is rather unnecessary, but a decent selection of wines actually, so I can't complain. The only real negative for me was the service. We had one guy that was really weird and surly and looked stoned, and another guy who insisted on engaging me and not my female colleague. This is 2024!
Visited Mr Porter for a meeting in the lounge.
Nighttime crowd is chill. Music and vibes are solid and not too crazy for a Thursday night. Good spot to visit for a night out
Very good restaurant
This place is amazing! wonderful view. Food was delicious. Staff very polite and well trained. Nice guests. You can dine on a counter in front of the kitchen. Highly recommended
Great night at Mr porter
Great food and cocktails, good music, and nice looking place, price is at the higher end.but worth it í recomand to visit
Decent steakhouse with amazing onion loaf.
"Great food and fabulous wine list. Service was excellent. Music was very loud so a not the best place for a business dinner. It’s a lively place so would be great with friends.
Not worth the money
The food is ok and you don’t get much for the eye watering prices you pay . The cocktails are tiny and not worth the money . The food did look amazing and the restaurant is beautiful but feel like there are much better palaces to eat in the surrounding area .
lots of energy and ambience
Had a couple of appetizers. The sea bass and the corn salsa. Both were excellent. it was really lively with lots of energy than in a blink of an eye every one left , which was aright too. Great views and good for people watching.

We booked this on a recommendation from our hotel for christmas eve dinner. Since it was a holiday and we had booked the required prix fixe dinner, our server approached us without introducing herself and asked to start dinner service without inquiring about drinks. She also failed to ask about how we would like our steak prepared. The food was oversalted and the steak was extremely rare. We had to send back the ribs which were so oversalted that they were inedible. When I asked why we had not had the option to choose how the steak was prepared, our server admitted her error and did provide some compensation for her mistake. Overall, the food was salty and overpriced, the service felt rushed and, frankly, incompetent for a high end steakhouse. The hostess was snooty and acted annoyed and the overall experience was extremely disappointing. I would never dine here again and, if you are a foodie, this is a restaurant you should avoid.
Dinner with Family
We were served by Ghylian Tchong. He is a pleasant person. Service oriented and knowlegable! He is a great asset for Mr. Porter Restaurant! Great job!
A happening destination
Overall an enjoyable experience. Clearly one of Amsterdam’s vibey restaurant and cocktail destination’s. Yes it can be loud but that didn’t take away from our enjoyment. A good DJ kept the music flowing all night. Our waitress carefully explained the menu and how to order. The food was very good, particularly the beef and chicken main courses. The wine list contained some interesting selections. I am being unfair when I deduct one mark as the Irish coffee was poorly made! We will go back.
Amazing service, food, and atmosphere.
Classy establishment and will go again if we find ourselves in Amsterdam again.

This was my second visit to Mr Porter , this time i was with my wife for our honeymoon and we stayed at the W and got a reservation for the resturant as i spoke so highly of it from the first time i had visited, but i couldn't have been more wrong as right off the bat one could notice the service had gone way down with unconcerned staff and delays in service , the highlight was when our steak came out and was comepletly cold , i expressed this to our server who took the steak in the kitchen to have the "Manager " ( Tom, not his real name ) touch and inspect it . Tommy surprise The server came back to me to tell me that the manager thought the steak was fine and all they could do was warm it up for me ( i had ordered 5 different sides that were great ) , i expressed that the steak was cold and warming it up in anyway would change the temp i wanted it at . Tom ( not his real name ) comes to me and says the " steak is fine and we can only warm it and he himself inspected it , i asked him how this was good hospitality and if he did touch it to inspect it how could he give me the same steak to which he became very rude and defensive and started stating how the real manager was not there and he was left incharge and they were very busy . I politely asked to pls be billed for my sides and drinks and i wanted to leave and he started arguing with me saying i was being unfair to him and that he had been working 6 days straight ( not my problem , i came to celebrate honeymoon and convinced my wife to choose this for our dinner ) . After a lot of back and forth we were given out check for eveything else and we left our first dinner of our honeymoon ruined by bad service and low quality food . Mr porter , W Amsterdam , i expected so much better your acting manger ruined a very special meal without any remorse to the point of saying we were lying

Mr Porter, Spuistraat 175 within the W Hotel,, was on our shortlist for our recent trip to Amsterdam. Colleagues had mentioned the spectacular view of the city, located right behind the Royal Palace (Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam). The menu was also intriguing - if we can couple its modern cuisine with its spectacular views at sunset - we think we got our culinary haven for the night. The restaurant and lounge are both on the roof - and, indeed, have spectacular views of Amsterdam - primarily north, west, and south. To its east is a likewise spectacular view of the Royal Palace, with views of its grand facade. The view, coupled with a very modern, glass and steel look. The restaurant is open - with views extending from one end through the kitchen and the city's landscape beyond. We believe it may be one of the few rooftop restaurant/lounges in the city. Reservations are required; you should do it a few days in advance. [Be aware that some restaurants in the city do require a reservation and a deposit, similar to Los Angeles or New York.] We noted a lot of formal business attire, but we don't think it was necessarily required (the lounge was much more informal, and there was cross-over between the two). We sat at the bar, which was preferable -it had a great view of the entire restaurant, with the patio literally behind us. Our bartender servers were quite friendly. We started with two cocktails - the Citric Habit and the Basilieus. Cocktails were made carefully and as expected for a restaurant of this caliber. To start us off, they provided a bread service - a buttery Naan with a side of olive oil and aromatics...warm and unctuous. After some study, we ordered the Taboon Roasted Foie Gras and the Roasted Aubergine Grated Egg for starters. The latter was already on my shortlist before our visit. The aubergine with grated egg was salty and tart and a nice refreshing way to start the meal, cleansing the sugars from the drinks. The foie gras was one-of-kind, at least by us - it was prepared perfectly, lightly warm, soft as a pillow. We can still taste the sauce; it added a cloying sweetness - amazing. Speaking with our server, we asked that he help us decide - we had just come off two days of red meat and looking for a change of pace with fish. He had us go for the Sea Bream Spicy Tomato Casserole, but then go for the Taboon Roasted Sea Bass in Adobo Sauce - this avoided the other fish entree with a similar tomato base. Like the Foie Gras, the Sea Bass was similarly prepared in a giant clay oven - we suspect the high heat and wood fire add the flavor. Quite amazing and perfect for our mood. The Sea Bream was similarly delicious, perfectly prepared - soft and well suited for the intense flavor of the tomato. With our entrees, we ordered their Mac & Cheese with Cauliflower - this came out piping hot in a small cast iron pot. Throughout the dinner, we made sure to explore the patio and the floor - before we lost the sun. We got gobs of one-of-a-kind shots of the city and of the Royal Palace. When night came, we did more of the same - breathtaking! Now - one surprise. When we were wrapping up dinner, we asked for some containers to take back to the hotel. They apologized and said that they don't do that. I don't think I've ever heard of that, but when in Rome...luckily, we were nearly done. But, it put a crimp in getting dessert. We watched other parties and wondered what they would do if they had ordered a full bone-in tomahawk. Sneak it out in your jacket? Keine problem as we say in Germany - all in all, a wonderful meal in a stylish backdrop that can't be beaten. Check out Mr Porter when you want to take a break from the ground level of Amsterdam on your next visit! Check out more allstreetsgourmand.com, and please like and subscribe - we appreciate you!

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
