Ethereal! 🦀⚜️🍑
Unsure what all these other cranksters are upset about - this was hands down one of the better nights of my life. Creative, tasty food and delicious cocktails, and great company at the community table. It’s an investment but worth it. I was also thrilled to read that creator Melissa Martin, in addition to her steadfast support of local producers, works tirelessly to support coastal hurricane recovery efforts.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious dining experience
Lovely small restaraunt with thoughtfully prepared local & delicious food. We sat together as a family of 12 so did not experience the community table. Staff was accomodating & helped to make the dinner an experience- which is what we were looking for. Make sure you know that the prepaid reservations are not cancellable as it is $$$$.
Be the first to ReplyService was excellent, company was not
In general the service was excellent. The main hostess was a little pretentious but the rest of the staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was interesting and well prepared. In short it was good but below our expectations considering the price. The most unenjoyable part of the evening was the company. The restaurant uses a common table concept so the evening is very dependent the other people at your table. My wife and I recently saw the movie, The Menu. Most of the characters from the movie were present at our table. While there were two couples from NO that were wonderful, the remainder of the table had too many egos and “privileged people talking about how they are not privileged” for us. It will make for a great story for many years to come!
Be the first to ReplyA Fun and Very Tasty Experience
We have visited Mosquito Supper Club three times and enjoyed every one immensely. I read the few negative reviews and concluded that those visitors expected a "normal" restaurant experience, and were disappointed. So let me clarify the experience. If you assume you are going to the home of a family member or close friend because you know they cook great food, then you are going to the right place. There is no effort here to be fancy or to provide you with a quiet, private dining experience. There are a limited number of seats and so family type dining is the style here. Like visiting a friend's house, you are being served what the chef cooked tonight from the best ingredients found. I noticed a couple of comments about the cost. As a cook, I can tell you many of her ingredients are costly, and take a lot of effort to get the exceptional flavors from those ingredients, as the chef there does. So for those who want privacy in a quiet dining room with tablecloths and fancy menus with a variety of cuisines to accommodate everyone, then go somewhere else. If you want truly excellent Cajun food served in a family style (which is how they portray themselves) then you will have a great experience at Mosquito Supper Club.
Be the first to ReplyConvenient for the staff, not so much for the diners
The shtick is that they want diners to meet each other at communal tables. And then they do just about everything to keep this from working. The noise level is out of this world. You can meet people at your table if you want to shout all night. The music by and large is thumpa thumpa soul with just enough variety so that you will notice that the more energetic the bass beat the louder the shouting. There is a divider between the two big tables but rather than closing it to encourage conversational groups, it is open to serve the interests of the servers. The food is well-seasoned, though oily. The duck tasted like it had been under a heat lamp since the day before. DO NOT ORDER THE WINE PAIRING. Six of us received about 100 ml in a small glass, and then rather than top off the glasses, the server put the cap back on the wine and put it back behind the bar for tomorrow.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal of our trip
My husband and I live near San Francisco and were doing a driving trip around the South for ten days. We had read about this restaurant and booked a spot at the communal table weeks in advance. Everything about the experience was exceptional: the locally sourced food, the service, the lovely old house, and the great conversations with our neighbors at the table. A must if you visit New Orleans.
Be the first to ReplyA perfect evening with new friends
As a solo traveler on his first trip to New Orleans, I could not have asked for a better dining experience than Mosquito Supper Club. I lucked out with an incredible communal table full of friendly strangers, both locals and visitors, and it set the stage for a perfect evening of incredible food. The opportunity to hear from the chef about her own heritage and her intentions with the restaurant - as a social experiment - felt very meaningful, and I can honestly say that, for these people at this table, it completely worked. We all left with new friends and full bellies, and it was an experience I feel lucky to have had.
Be the first to ReplyBad policy!!!!
I wish I could write a glowing review I can’t When I asked what the per person charge was and found out we had been charged $23.00 per person more , did I say $23.00 per person more? It does taint the food ,service , and experience. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company , which we all know is not a simple process. So overall , our group had a good experience, I had a bad experience. Be cautious

We arrived at the small wooden house near the garden district about 20 minutes early for our 8:30 seating and were greeted warmly and showed to our table for two. The small restaurant has mostly long wooden tables and benches for larger groups and a few small tables. The friendly,, capable staff works together to take care of everyone's needs. We started with a couple of interesting cocktails and a bottle of Riesling from the small well-chosen wine list. Wine pairings are available with the dinner courses as well. The menu is all cajun seafood and is a prix fixe tasting menu. We started with raw oysters and crab claws and a yummy small roll, proceeded to red shrimp swimming in lemon butter with potatoes and a crusty bread for dipping. The chef then send a lagniappe (little something extra) bowl of gumbo that was so delicious I almost cried. Next courses were a fresh garden salad and stuffed crabs served on peas and rice. We were just able to wolf down the blackberry dumpling and ice cream dessert. I was shocked when we left around 11. The time had passed so quickly. I can't say enough about how delicious everything was. This restaurant is not for everyone. If you don't like seafood (!!), if you don't believe in paying a fair price for fabulous food and for service staff (instead of tipping), if you mind paying for the tasting menu when you book, then don't go. There are plenty of others who want to support this kind of dining and hospitality experience. There is a cookbook available for anyone interested in trying their hand. I'm ordering mine today.
Be the first to ReplyNoise pollution
I see the earlier review that mentioned the noise level-let me say the front row of a Black Sabbath concert would be easier on your ears than dining in the room we shared with some loud young ladies . The food was good, service good - atmosphere/ experience tainted by noise pollution to the point I would not return- get some fabric and other noise baffles!
Be the first to ReplyABSOLUTELY AMAZING
Nothing like I expected. But absolutely marvelous. Every course was delicious. The Picked Shrimp were an unexpected delight. Everyone was so welcoming and the chef was phenomenal.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific and unique
We had planned our trip to NOLA a few months ago and then saw the CBS story on Mosquito, it quickly became a bucket list thing. We were not disappointed, the food was unique and so well done, the flavors and tastes are just something you don’t find unless you eat at places like this. They set a high bar for everyone elsr. We shared a 5 course wine pairing which offered a nice selection of french wines. The service was excellent and timely. They offered gluten free options which was appreciated. Highly recommend is your a foodie.
