Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
One of my few 5 star ratings.
Five of us came here for lunch. Our reservation got us a table in front of the pasta TV. We got to watch them make the fresh pastas. It was amazing how thin they rolled out the pasta sheets. We were all in awe. The service was immediate, Johnny served us and was so attentive. explained everything. We shared everything so got to try so many options that just 2 of us would have had to give up some items. We ordered drinks and ordered the smoked fish and waffle fries. A huge portion size. Then go the Texas red fish la plancha. OMG it was fabulous. and a bit spicy but not overdone. The portion size was large enough for us to get a good taste. We then had the burrata that we saw on "Somebody Feed Phil". It was sooo good. We had the prosciutto butter. The burrata was so creamy. Normal portions was 4 they added a fifth so we could all have a tigelle. They were hot fresh out of the oven. Comes with the rhubarb jam. we all fawned over it. Then came the tortelle and the angiolotti. We watched them make it fresh. They were so good. Never had anything like it before. We asked for bread so we could sop up the sauces and clean all the platters. It came with a sweet butter. Dessert was a tiramisu. Such a huge order. We had two bottles of the Multipuciano.

Food: 4 Decor: 4 Service: 4 Came here for brunch and grabbed a seat at the bar. BURRATA E HAM rosemary tigelle, prosciutto di san daniele, rhubarb strawberry kiwi mostarda 36 ...add barolo salami 6 ~5/5. Delicious. Simple mix of meats and cheese, but the quality was excellent and the biscuits were piping hot. HAND-CUT PAPPARDELLE tomato braised lamb sugo, marinated peppers, caprino capretto, calabrian oregano 29 ~4/5. Tasty fresh pasta cooked al dente with a savory mix of meat sauce. Service was excellent. Would definitely come back.
Exceptional experience.
Great-tasting authentic Italian food with superb service. After watching Somebody Feed Phil, we decided to visit the same place and weren't disappointed. Definitely going back the next time we're in Chicago.

We made a reservation on Resy, and I highly recommend a reservation because the place was packed for dinner on a Tuesday afternoon. I ordered: -Half order of Burrata E Ham -Half order of Arancini -Gnochetti con Pesto -Sundae I love that you can do half orders of the two appetizers I mentioned! It came with 2 pieces instead of 4, which is perfect for a party of two. The burrata is extremely popular and it was so good ... sweet and salty. Highly recommend. The arancini was good, but I didn't think it was anything special. They also gave us some complimentary chilled tomato soup and soup shooters (I forget the name) since we were there celebrating our anniversary. It was excellent. The gnocchi pesto was also amazing, the pasta is light and unique. Flavor is good... highly recommend. I only thing I would skip is probably the sundae. It was ordinary and wasn't worth the price. I saw a couple people order the tiramisu though.
Everything was amazing.
We got a table inside near the area where they make the pasta and you can watch them through a big mirror which is really cool. The service was perfect with people refilling our drinks and making sure we were good. The food was also incredible. It was not a cheap dinner but it was well worth it the money. They also gave my wife a piece of cake for free to celebrate her birthday. I can't wait to come back someday.

I've never eaten a scallop dish and then thought, "the scallops were unnecessary." Sure, the scallops were large and perfectly cooked, but the rest of the dish was not taking a back seat. There is a cheffy focus on each thing that makes it onto the plate. One of the best restaurants I've ever experienced, there is a small number of tables which helps to explain their ability to control quality. Excellent staff, beautiful yet comfortable interiors, great wine selections. We sat near the door and watched many unknowing travelers turned away due to the capacity and exclusivity of the reservations. But it doesn't feel pretentious. An ideal special occasion new-Italian restaurant. I vastly prefer this style of dining over certain 3-star more expensive options.

New favorite restaurant in Chicago! Raquel was great and super knowledgeable. Highlight of the meal was the Redfish, but the salad, spaghetti pomodoro, and pesto gnocchi were all amazing. And you get a slice of ice cream cake if it's your birthday! I will be dreaming about this meal for awhile.
Snacks were ok but all main courses and pastas were amazing.
Loved that you could see the pastas being made, definitely made it feel special .
Service and food were spectacular.
Get a reservation, and eat this pasta. Fabulous! The chef was kind enough to pose for a picture as well.
Some of the best pasta I've had in my life.
Little pricy but well worth the money with amazing quality and good portion sizes. The service was very helpful with recommending dishes and brought out the plates at a good pace.
Outstanding food, but very loud
Fantastic food and service. I had the Texas Redfish with tahini, zucchini, fruit and chili crisp, which was exceptionally delicious. The pappardelle with lamb sugo was also superb, as was the tiramisu for dessert. The only drawbacks were that it was too loud to have a real conversation, and the atmosphere felt frenetic – hard to relax and enjoy. It was also very difficult to get reservations, but if you sign up for the waitlist on Resy, you will get frequent notifications about tables opening up.
Great Chicago Restaurant
Monteverde is one of our favorites in Chicago. The burrata and ham plate is outstanding, cocktails are tasty, and we will get back soon to try the Ragu. Also don't sleep on dessert, the chocolate sorbet with a forgotten cookie is a perfect finish.
Another Outstanding Meal
When we come back to Chicago we try to include this restaurant while there. We had special surprise birthday, and they accommodated a group of 14. The pre-fix menu they served up was out of this world. Service excellent. You really should try this place.
Monteverde is an acclaimed Italian restaurant from Top Chef
Monteverde is an acclaimed Italian restaurant from Top Chef season 9 runner up and James Beard award winner Sarah Grueneberg. Any foodie from Chicago is more than aware of this West Loop hot spot and it is definitely near the top of their "must eat at" list. However, the acclaim and popularity of this place makes it one of the harder reservations to snag in Chicago. While you can likely book something for lunch, dinner reservations are nearly impossible to come by. So, when a buddy of mine surprised me with one, I was absolutely ecstatic! I have heard that Monteverde is the best restaurant in the West Loop and given that its neighboring restaurants are heavy hitters of the Chicago food scene, I can definitely see why after dining here. The restaurant is spacious and has an upscale vibe without coming off as pretentious. All the pasta is cooked to order and you can actually see it being made from the reflection of an overhead mirror right above their pasta making station. It's a really nice touch that I've yet to see in other restaurants. There's a large mirror in the dining room that's unnoticeable at first. It's tricks you into thinking the restaurant is bigger than it is, but it adds depth to the dining area. It's actually quite clever. The first dish to come out was the nduja arancini. It was served over a delicious sauce which complimented the zest of the nduja. Very solid snack to start off the meal. The wagyu beef skewer was cooked to perfection and very tasty, but I imagine certain diners might not appreciate the portion size. I'm a quality over quantity guy, so I had no issues with it whatsoever. Our first shared plate was the burrata e ham with prosciutto butter, which is arguably their signature dish. Every food critic or influencer raves about it and with good reason. It was absolutely delicious and I honestly wish I could've kept the whole thing to myself. This is a must order. Next we were served the gnochetti con pesto and cacio whey pepe. Two pasta dishes I have never had before. They were fantastic and left me wanting to order another pasta off the menu. The rest of my party were starting to get full and decided to tap out. Since I knew that I might not get the opportunity to dine here anytime soon, I insisted we try at least one dessert. Everyone on Yelp and Instagram seems to love the tiramisu, so that seemed like the most logical choice. My buddy also said the forgotten cookie is also worth trying so we ordered one of those, as well. The cookie is made up of meringue, dark chocolate, and topped with toasted coconut. It's very light and airy, which is not what comes to mind when you think of a cookie, but it was awesome. The size of the tiramisu is generous and incredibly photogenic. I have actually not eaten that much tiramisu throughout the years, but this was by far the best I have had. The perfect way to cap off a meal of this caliber. This dinner was beyond satisfying and I am just itching to come back here, because this place definitely lives up to the hype. But like I mentioned before, it is very difficult to secure a dinner reservation here. God forbid this spot is featured on the newest season of The Bear. If you've been wanting to try this place out, then I implore you to keep your eye on Resy for anything that's available. Set a notification for any cancelled reservations if you have to. Or just book something for lunch because Monteverde is the real deal.

Monteverde is the one restaurant I was dying to try on our Chicago trip... it did not disappoint! We absolutely loved everything we ordered. Our group of four were not super hungry-- we filled up sharing the Artichoke & Sunchoke Cristiano (small but delicious), the CACIO WHEY PEPE (thick sauce and noodles- chef's kiss), Spaghetti Al Pomodoro (add a meatball, you won't regret it), and, the STAR OF THE SHOW: the GNOCCHETTI CON PESTO. The pesto is light, fresh, perfect in every way.

Food is amazing! The pasta is freshly made and the service is very good. Loved the black truffle pasta!
A bit overrated if you ask me.

Made a same day reservation on a Wednesday afternoon and got seated immediately when my gf and I flew in. They have a check in for your luggages which was nice to have while we were waiting for our hotel room to be ready. It was still crowded but not super loud where you need to yell across the table to have a conversation. Our waitress, Racquel, was so fast and attentive as well as everyone else putting away empty dishes or refilling your water cups. The food was so good and oh my lord that birthday cake was even better. They really put their hard work into making their pasta (which you can see if you're sitting at the bar area) and it shows. Love this place! Glad I saw it after watching an episode on Feeding Phil. AND they have a lot of vegetarian options which was a plus. Although you should be mindful that you're going to pay a pretty penny and the portions will not be big because this place is on the Michelin guide and I think won a James Beard award.
Rueben HQ
Rueben is world class. Love the Fries.sassy service in a good way. Expansive menu and they do everything well. Sometimes a wait.

It took me awhile to get into this place and I wasn't sure how I'd like the menu as nothing really grabbed me when I looked online. However once I tried it, I was hooked. Everything here is absolutely 5 stars. The chef puts together unexpected tastes and combinations that blow your mind, they use quality ingredients and have excellent service. It's tough to get a reservation so we'll go early or late and sit at the bar- which is one of my favorite things to do now.
where do i begin.
i think about monteverde OFTENNN. this place lives in my mind rent freeeee!!! everything is good af, and i wouldn't lie. the service was great, food came out quick, my water cup was never empty. it's a lil crowded in there, but baby i don't even care!
Monteverde offers an exquisite dining experience.
As you enter, the warm and inviting ambiance sets the stage for a memorable meal. I had the pleasure of trying their ragu Each bite was a burst of flavor that left me craving more. The service at Monteverde is impeccable, with attentive staff who are passionate about the food they serve. While Monteverde is on the pricier side, the quality of the food and the overall experience make it well worth it. Whether you're a pasta aficionado or simply looking for a fantastic meal, Monteverde is a must-visit destination.
I'll keep this short.
This is hands down, without argument or debate, the best Italian restaurant in Chicago. It in fact is always a talking point when discussing the best Italian restaurants in the country. The menu is ever changing, but the food never disappoints. Amazing flavors, fresh pasta (they literally make it in front of you), and creative dishes. A classic Chicago corner restaurant with a great vibe and pride in what they do. Everyone who works there knows exactly what they are doing and is focused on giving you the best dining experience possible. 6/5 stars!!!

My wife and I went to an Italian restaurant last night and shared a green salad, cheese ravioli and spaghetti with tomato sauce. But the restaurant was Monteverde and the three dishes--Oma's salad, egg yolk raviolo and spaghetti al pomodoro--were all fabulous. Flavors popped. The cheese in the ravioli was exquisitely creamy. The salad dressing was perfect. I've lived in Chicago for nearly 40 years and can't remember a better meal in the city. I tried to think of when I'd eaten food of this quality and could only come up with two meals at Michelin-starred restaurants in France. Monteverde is that good. The ambience is very nice, contemporary but not pretentious. Our server Brett was informative and friendly. The place was packed and a bit noisy, but my wife and I (both in our 70s) were able to converse (mainly about how we were loving every bite.) The two wines we had were both very good. It's pricey, and getting a reservation requires almost military precision, but, if you can afford it, it's well worth it. Monteverde's kitchen is world class.

The best flavors in Italian Cuisine in chicago Love how the vegetables change with the season as they should Service is kind and respectful to the customers. Ambiance is causal and you feel at home the minute you walk in the door Cocktails are above average and amazing as are the wine choices
Sublime Italian in a cool yet warm setting with great service and cocktails at a reasonable price!
Book well in advance for this popular Italian. Been featured on many shows so lots of demand. But worth the. effort! We were able to book board seats for lunch for 2. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. And you get to look at the “pasta mirror” where two original chefs work their magic. We were lucky enough to want things off the price fixe restaurant week menu. Past and apps. A cocktail. And some peppermint meringue cookies. Everything hit the spot. Fun. Lively. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon at lunch. GO!!
Innovative
Our dinner at Monteverde was delicious. The food, described generally as Italian, was different to any Italian food I have eaten. The restaurant itself is very casual and it is very difficult to make a reservation but, keep trying, as the result is special. Our party of 4 shared a number of plates, none were disappointing. Our personable server, Katie M, helped us navigate the menu and made excellent recommendations. The cocktails were also very good.
Fake gnocchietti
GNOCCHETTI CON PESTO were not gnocchetti at all. It's factory pasta little tiny shells. I have been making gnocchi (made with potatoes) and gnocchetti (little potato gnocchi) for over 60 years and at $27 it should have been real little gnocchi. It is fraud call them gnocchi when its only flour pasta. I questioned the server, and she only laughed. and tried to convince me they are gnocchetti. They are not. It would be like a 5 star chef from New York City who is from a fisherman family and orders salmon and they serve him a tilapia and they claim its salmon and even try to contradict the customer. It is embarrassing they would pull a fast one to Chicago land customers.
Fresh and fabulous Italian food
Our party of four shared multiple dishes: one snack, three shared plates, and two pastas. We had plenty to eat and a few leftovers. The food was fresh, creative, and beautifully presented. Service was efficient without being intrusive. The birthday celebrant received a complimentary piece of cake. If you want to watch the pasta being made, ask for seating at a high top table near the bar.
The BEST dining experience of 2023!
Our evening started with complications and a reservation that had been misdirected, yet despite a full house, the managers (front of house, Jami; restaurant, Justin) took up the work of puzzling, rearranging, and problem-solving so impressively that within minutes a way had been been possible, and we we seated in time to enjoy our meal and still make it to our show for curtain up. All that BEFORE the incredible meal began! My friend ordered GNOCCHETTI CON PESTO, and I had the WHITE TRUFFLE TAJARIN. I know I will fall short of believability when I say that even after upscale dining around the world this year, the meal I had at Monteverde was the best dining for me in 2023 (well, maybe with the single exception of the chef's table at Alinea, but that is pretty elevated company). The tastes -- the fresh, delightful, and heavenly tastes!! Words are failing me. Just go! but be sure to made reservations well in advance. And, I note only one other aspect so much worth the mention -- the negroni was to die for! Thank you, Jordan! And thank you, Justin, Jami, and Joe for making the evening possible as well as magical.
Wonderful experience for a special birthday gathering!
On behalf of my entire Party of 7, we had a superb dining experience at Monteverde. There was a fun, festive vibe, exceptional service and one of the best meals we ever had (Burrata plate, Ragu Alla Napoletana, Kuri Squash and Spaghetti). They remembered it was my husband's birthday from a reservation we made 2 months ago and made several acknowledgments to it (so touching!) We will spend the rest of our days enjoying the memories of our dinner and raving about this restaurant. :)
delightful and delicious
SO amazing. Cannot gush enough about how good the food, service, and overall experience was. Monteverde is staying on my list for every visit to Chicago.
One of our favorites
Top notch all the way around. Food, Service, Atmosphere, etc. We had a fabulous experience and cannot wait to return.
Finest Restaurant in Chicago
Absolutely the finest Italian food outside of Italy; and then I even question that. I travel 140 flights a year and frequent many restaurants and this is, hands-down, my wife's and my favorite. We already have plans to go for up-coming wedding anniversary. Chef Sarah and her husband Jaime are certainly doing it right as their staff is beyond compare, as well. The atmosphere is perfect. Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate

Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Yes unfortunately they are finding more and more ways to lock up sellers money. Sell thru rate, refund rate, limiting withdrawal amounts ler day and per month (which for me are the same number which makes no sense). Lot of sellers leaving as you can see from the lifetime sales not really increasing. Most posts on here are frustrated sellers which is not a recipe for success

I’m sorry to hear about this - I’m a brand new seller on the platform and didn’t realize this was a *thing* - any chance you can point me to the fine print/documentation where this policy is stated (also identifying other caveats like this would be appreciated)?
