Momotaro Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Wow this food is amazing.
I absolutely love going here and will return! 10/10 experience.
We came here specifically for the burger.
Burger was very delicious probably my number three burger in Chicago. Love the fries that came with the burger. It is a tad bit pricey. They use a slightly fried bun, which is a nice touch. It is not too greasy overall. We also got the chicken curry. Chicken was good but there was not enough curry sauce. I like how curry is slightly sweet . The place underground below the sushi restaurant very loud hip-hop music .service was decent.
This place is incredible if you're looking for a high end
This place is incredible if you're looking for a high end Asian fusion restaurant. The vibe inside is edgy and the food is great. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a nice place in Fulton Market. Momotaro Izayaka downstairs is also incredible!
I hadn't been to Momotaro in 7 years and it did not
I hadn't been to Momotaro in 7 years and it did not disappoint. Calvin was our waiter and he was PHENOMENAL. He was energetic, friendly, and helpful. And even though he was so busy, he was very attentive. Also a big shoutout to Hans who was working hard with him. He was also nothing short of fabulous and had a great personality as well. The food was delicious. The Akami, Chutoro, and Otoro melted in our mouths. The spaghetti was soooo flavorful. All the sushi tasted fresh unlike most places in Chicago. For dessert we got the Miso Banoffee and the Hana were so good and the flavors went so well together. We'll be back. A great date night spot or a gathering with friends.
Excellent service brilliant and outstanding food selections
Excellent service brilliant and outstanding food selections . Just a gem . Make sure to make reservations . Bar seating is usually packed .
Sad to have to leave such a negative review when the food
Sad to have to leave such a negative review when the food itself was quite delicious. But our server was so increasingly rude to our group throughout our meal that I'm compelled to share our experience. At first we tried to make excuses on behalf of our short tempered server, maybe it was just his personality, but by the end of the meal it was impossible to ignore how pleasant he was with the table next to us while treating us like pariahs. By the end he threw our check into the middle of the table without asking if we were finished, then yelled 'just put it down!' When we tried to hand him the payment. We never asked for anything special, no complicated requests, never brushed him off.. we didn't send anything back, we were polite and said please, thank you, and spent over $400 on our meal. Our whole table spent the night trying to figure out what we could have accidentally done to justify what we all agree was the lousiest service we have ever had at a high end restaurant, rather than enjoying the meal. And the manager couldn't have cared less either. We won't be back, and won't be recommending it to anyone ever again!
Food was excellent.
I'll start with that. We arrived around 5 for our 530 reservation and sat almost immediately. Once our server came over we stressed how we had to leave by seven. Assumed that was plenty of time. Well seven rolls around and we still haven't had our entrees and our server has been missing for quite some time. When she finally comes over she informs ours our meals were run to the wrong table. I don't know why she waited so long to tell us, but I was livid. They pack my wagyu to go and I end up eating it at the symphony standing up, hiding in a hallway. They did comp our appetizers. But we came all the way to Chicago for our ten year anniversary and this was the restaurant we chose to celebrate it at. Not a good experience at all.
I had a very nice meal here with my family.
We got seated upstairs in a smaller dining area and it felt very private and intimate. The fish was fresh and well prepared and the hot dishes were specular as well. Don't skip dessert as Momotaro consistently has some of the best desserts and pastries in the west loop. Our server, Calvin, was warm and accommodating. He provided excellent service and made our night even more memorable
On a whole other level.
This whole dinner will ruin you for whatever your local sushi is - no matter how highly rated. Here, it’s art and every bite more nuanced and delicious than the last. And… do not miss dessert! The team here is so talented you’ll want the whole experience.
I really like this restaurant food, service and atmosphere
I really like this restaurant food, service and atmosphere all go hand in hand. My only complaint is the tables are too close together, not really intimate in that way since you will hear the next tables conversation. Food wise, I liked everything I ordered. The miso soup was tasty, but I would ask for no tofu it was alot in the bottom. The yakitori rice was great for sharing and the flavor profile was delicious. Can't go wrong with a sushi roll or the nigiri. I also like that the wait staff was constantly cleared the space and refreshing the flatware and plates. It is very dim, but it is apart of the feel of the place. I can't wait for my experience there.
Momotaro offers a vibrant dining experience, blending
Momotaro offers a vibrant dining experience, blending Japanese-American fusion cuisine that echoes the styles of Nobu and Roka. While it may not serve authentic Japanese dishes, the flavors are delicious and well-executed. The bar area is lively and bustling, perfect for those seeking an energetic atmosphere. In contrast, the second floor provides a quieter, more intimate setting, ideal for a relaxed meal. The waitstaff are exceptionally friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant vibe. The food is consistently good, making it a worthwhile visit for both casual and special occasions.
Best meal in Chicago
Seriously the best meal we had during our trip to Chicago. The sushi was incredibly fresh and their flavor combinations were phenomenal. Every single thing we had we loved. Would highly recommend.
Top-o-the-line modern Japanese cuisine
I have mixed feelings about our visit to this restaurant, since the food (prepared at an open kitchen) was absolutely fantastic and I am not especially a fan of seafood. We were taken there by relatives who live in Chicago, and every bite of the extensive meal --12 courses? I lost count-- was EXCELLENT, beautifully cooked and gorgeously presented. It's clearly a fantastically popular spot because even with reservations we were obliged to wait for a bit and there was not a single unoccupied seat anywhere. They also had a cloakroom, which was essential because it was wickedly cold outside so we had coats and hats and there was nowhere to put them around our table. The hat-check attendant also refused to accept a tip! Unfortunately, this is a "lively" spot with contempo music playing at a significant volume without respite, obliging everyone at the table to practically shout at each other in order to be heard at all. As such I had a headache ten minutes after we arrived, and my skull was ringing for fifteen minutes after we left. A pity, really, because the food was sensational. I didn't see the bill, either, but I'm sure it was pretty hefty. Still, a great meal to experience.
So very expensive for the amount of food.
It's insane how overpriced for the quality and quantity. We sat at the bar--drinks were great. I was so looking forward to this being a hit! I literally would never go back. And those noodles--not hype worthy!
Might be a new top contender for my favorite restaurant in
Might be a new top contender for my favorite restaurant in Chicago. The inside is gorgeous but not overwhelming and I love that it doesn't feel too packed. Service when I've been is also great, the servers are helpful in choosing the right dishes for the mood and great drink suggestions as well. The food - top tier, the salmon belly is my favorite bite in Chicago by far. The sushi rolls are good - salmon one is the best, especially if you like wasabi. I do think I like the variety outside the sushi though as well, the zucchini is fun, spaghetti is a must and the lamb! You really can't go wrong but also grab a cocktail, they're unique fun and strong. Can't recommend enough.
I had an amazing experience here from service, overall
I had an amazing experience here from service, overall ambiance and taste of food. We kept it fairly basic with spicy tuna and salmon avocado roll and the fried rice. Also had some nigiri that melted in our mouths. I wish I caught our servers name because she was very attentive and knowledgeable.
Finally tried Momotaro.
We walked in and the ambience was minimal but chic. The hostess was a bit rude. She refused to acknowledge our presence. Even when she did, she was awkward. We also had to wait a bit even though we had a reservation. We were then seated and the server came to take our order. We literally had 3 different servers come to our table. It was kind of weird. Our main server was absentminded as well. Even after ordering desserts, he came and asked if we wanted desserts. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. We tried the Forbidden Murasaki and another cocktail whose name I can't recollect but it had rum, yuzu and lime. They were both really good. We ordered from the vegetarian menu which you have to ask for separately. We ordered the edamame, cucumber avocado roll and vegetable udon noodles. The edamame and cucumber avocado rolls were good, but the noodles were a bit off for me. I think I can make better noodles at home, lol. Also, they were served in a huge bowl with tons of broth. You'd think that they would give you bowls and soup spoons for the noodles, but we had to ask for them separately. The best part was the dessert. We tried the seasonal ice cream and the flavor for the season was matcha cookie dough. I never thought this combination would work, but it worked so well! I don't think I will return, as I didn't really like the service even though the food was good.
Learned many things on this visit.
First being it is recommended to eat your food from cold to hot. Was successful in doing tIt had been a minute since I had some great sushi. Enjoyed some sake and had a late reservation. The upstairs looks very nice and will be back to try it
Hands down the BEST sushi in chicago.
I totally understand the hype with this place. The sushi is so fresh and they have an amazing selection to choose from. I was brought here for my birthday and the waiter made it so special for me. The ambiance is what I think of for a nice sushi spot, dark, mysterious, romantic. Ugh I already want to go back.
How do you reach out to a customer and then blow them
How do you reach out to a customer and then blow them off?!?! Never heard back from the General Manager!! Why bother contacting me if you cannot follow up?!?! Rude!!
The food is good.
The restaurant's service is great. The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy and cool. I will back to try out more of the menu items when I am back in the city!
Groups of more than 7 people: I decided to have my
Groups of more than 7 people: I decided to have my birthday dinner at Momotaro because I've heard great things about it. Unfortunately, my experience here was terrible. It started with their event planning team, which I had to email to book my table since my group was bigger than 7 people. I emailed them on a Monday evening and got a response the next day in the afternoon, asking for more information. I responded within the hour, but I did not hear from them again. Two days later, I decided to email the main email address and finally got an immediate response. I was informed that groups of 8 or more were obliged to select from a fixed family-style menu. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the food selections. Upon arrival, our table setup was still incomplete. We were seated in front of the bar close to the entrance, with a pillar awkwardly dividing our group. When I requested a table adjustment, the server seemed hesitant, explaining that it will lead to space constraints and traffic issues, then said "there's nothing I can do about it; we can't move your table". I understood the spacing issue that she mentioned, but I felt that my reservations were pointless because I felt as if I walked in and asked for a table. I thought there would be a better seating arrangement in the restaurant for us because I had made a reservation. My friend got hit in the head at least 4 times by guests and servers passing between our table and the bar. There was a mat on the floor in front of the bar that someone tripped over and used my friend's head to catch themselves. It was a complete nightmare. We ordered our drinks before the first course started coming out. Four out of the five first course dishes came out, and our drinks were still not served. The bar was not full, and the tables around us were already getting their second round of drinks. When I inquired on what the remaining time was for our drinks to arrive, I received a somewhat curt response from our server, in which she said "Okay, there's (# of guests) of you here. It's going to take time." She looked frustrated; I'm not sure if the restaurant was short-staffed and she had too many tables. I only asked because I thought we would get our drinks before our next course started. At the end of the night, we asked for the bill. Our server said, "No, I can't get a final receipt; whoever booked it will get the final receipt tomorrow." We asked the manager, and he was able to get us a copy of the receipt. Also, the final bill I received through email the next day did not itemize the drinks; it just had a total amount next to the word "beverage." In conclusion, I would never want to come back here again, especially not for a big party. The food selections were okay, but I would have rather picked my own dishes to share family-style at our table. Some of my friends don't eat red and white meat, so not all the meat options were finished.
My companion had been here a few times before and was more
My companion had been here a few times before and was more than happy to come for my first time. It's a very trendy and chic place. Paul was our server and very excellent. He helped choose a nice saki and sold us the dessert. We got the duck breast, lamb, kani jomaki, momomaki, and some nigirizushi. Everything was so flavorful and delicious. It was one of those meals you just savor. I don't think you could go wrong with anything you order here. The Miso Banoffee dessert was the perfect ending. I would have no complaints about coming back either.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res

Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
