Service was great here, food was very mediocre.

Be the first to ReplyThis is a hidden gem in Sherman Oaks.
Food was delicious. Service was top notch. Had a wonderful time and will be coming back again soon.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional French bistro.
The John Dory and the duck confit are superb. Upscale yet non pretentious with consistently good food and excellent service!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing.
Food was wonderful and so were the drinks. My friend and I split the John Dory and it was sooo good!!! 5/5 I had an escargot off my fiancรฉs plate which was also delicious. I loved the shrimp appetizer too 4.5/5. Service was friendly and the decor inside is beautiful. We sat on the patio which is not as pretty but it still was a great time.

My son and his wife, knowing we are foodies, found a restaurant we had never been to (Mistral) and generously gave us a $250 gift certificate. We were properly excited to try something new. We arrived and found a charming old building which was nicely appointed as a French restaurant. The mรขitre d' showed us to a nice two top table and we waited. Fortunately the people in the tables next to us were charming and time passed quickly. After 15 minutes we were able to ask a member of the wait staff for menus which were promptly delivered. It was then that we noticed the quiet desperation in the eyes of the apparently overworked, underpaid wait staff. Someone came to ask if we wanted water, and we also ordered drinks. Not in the mood for wine, so I had a margarita and my wife had a Hendricks and tonic. Both were delicious. After another ten minutes a gentleman showed up and asked if we had decided. Somewhat taken aback by his abruptness but yet undeterred, we ordered dinner. I ordered a salad and the duck confit. Wifey asked for the short ribs. She also asked him to order a soufflรฉ for desert since it usually takes some prep time. My heirloom tomato and cucumber salad arrived in about ten minutes. Bread also arrived. While warm and quite good, it was squashed with tongs to the size of a cookie. The small salad was under seasoned and underdressed, which it shouldn't have been for $20. Our food was another fifteen or so minutes away and when it arrived it went to the table next to us. The woman at that table was astonished that her fish was so dark, since it was my wife's short ribs. It was quickly sorted out, and a good laugh. Unfortunately the aforementioned ribs were tasty, but stringy and tough. As it turned out, the duck confit was dry, and horribly overcooked. I'm going to do some research on how it's possible for a confit to be so dry. The orange sauce with the duck was delicious as were the mashed potatoes as if the dish were well conceived, but frankly horribly executed. We didn't complain. Just kept wondering why this rather expensive restaurant was such a disappointment. We waited close to a half hour after eating before we decided to cancel the soufflรฉ and leave. The mรขitre d' apologized for the delay and took it off the bill whilst offering some fresh berries. As we were ready to go, the soufflรฉ arrived along with a snarky comment "oh, you've got time for the soufflรฉ now," He proffered the check and I paid with the gift certificate, asking him to give the remainder of the certificate as a tip. He said I couldn't do that because it was company policy to use gift certificates only for food. He also wouldn't allow me to charge the tip saying it must be in cash. Fortunately I had a fifty dollar bill to tip the long suffering wait staff. They were obviously not the problem here, no matter how underpaid and undertrained they seemed. As we left, we were offered a fiftyish dollar gift certificate as change. I told him to keep it since we wouldn't be coming back. I also said something horribly rude and out of character to the mรขitre d' as I left. To his credit, he called me the next day to ask why I was so upset. It seemed a waste of my time and his to return the call. We won't be returning.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best places in LA.
Classy French restaurant serving top quality food. Best escargot I've had. Great personal service with a warm atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a strange dinner we had there tonight.
The food is good, not great. But why is burata and tomatoes $22? Think about that. Basically mozzarella and tomatoes; probably $5 worth of food no matter where they got it from. And that's an appetizer. Everything is incredibly overpriced. But ok. You go to a fancy French restaurant for food, ambience and service. The ambience is lovely except the noise level is insane. It's pretty to look at but not so much fun if you have to shout the whole time. And then there's the service. That was the worst. What makes someone who works at an expensive restaurant think they they are royalty - better than anyone they are serving? They were arrogant, entitled and rude. if we ask for bread? or where is the bathroom? Is there a problem with a customer asking questions? They don't look at you, they don't answer you.I think there is a class system in this restaurant and the waiters think they are at the top of it. No, the host is the top and the rudest, and the waiters are just the nobility. Customers are the lowest.

On Sunday evening, my wife and I celebrated Valentines Day a bit early. As soon as we walked into Mistral, we knew that we chose the right restaurant. The ambiance is so elegant and comforting, and the staff were so in their zone. It is so amazing how comfortable they were in their impeccable service...and yet so friendly. The food was very tasty and gourmet. My wife and I agreed that the crab cake we ate was the most "crabby" and tasty one we ever ate. The mussels were very yummy and elegantly flavored, and the duck confit was amazingly seared on the outside and so soft inside. Everyone definitely should taste their chocolate souffle to end the evening. Crusty outer and .melting inner with decadent whipped cream. There was one bumpy moment in the evening, but it does not even warrant any details because the owner and the servers dealt with it gracefully and quickly. My wife and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to Reply5 star! Impressive service staff.
Very attentive and knowledgeable. Steak was perfect. Must try their onion soup. Don't forget desert!!!!!! Soufflรฉ is to die for. Tip: don't use the bathroom. Otherwise 5 star!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is adorable! Very unexpected and so pleasant.
The indoor eating area is moody and great for a nice dinner and the outdoor patio is lovely, especially on a nice day. The service was impeccable! The servers work so great as a team and were kind, quick, & knowledgeable. Five stars for them! The food was only okay. We had the escargots appetizer (my first time and thought it was cool), bread was nice, NY steak garlic-parsley-butter + fries - cooked to a great medium and decent sear but not a lot of flavor, fries were nice and crispy. The duck confit was probably our favorite dish- crispy skin, succulent and juicy, the sauce was reminiscent of thanksgiving though and the Brussels and mash were bland. My favorite part was the service cute spot but food is only okay.
Be the first to ReplyBeen here so many times and adored this restaurant.
It was my favorite in the valley. However, tonight went for my husbands 90th birthday and there must have been a different chef. Angel hair pasta was way too spicy and loaded with sauce you couldn't see the noodles. The Caesar salar had too much cheese and except for Marcus the busboy the waiter had to constantly be called over. Lunchtime is outstanding at mistrial and hope the old chef comes back! Love the owner and all the other times I have been here! Oh ! And they used to bring chocolate soufflรฉ for a birthday! Now it's just a lump of ice cream for an expensive restaurant! What happened?

Delicious and such a great place to dine!! Celebrated my birthday here and our group went from 8 to 11 people and they accommodated us. The food was very French and seasoned just so. Not overly salty like a lot of American dining. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more!

Be the first to ReplyThe staff were so kind here.
Especially Raul. You don't get to meet a lot of people like this these days. My friend and I went here in January for his bday dinner and we had a blast. The food was amazing and the staff were exceptional. You can tell these people have kind souls and not just acting to get a tip haha. Definitely going back soon!
Be the first to ReplyJust moved to the neighborhood.
Was pleasantly surprised to find this amazing spot, with great service and atmosphere. The owner is hands on and it shows. You will bot be disappointed but may need to sneak in between the regular clients as its well-known by the locals!

I can't think of a single thing that could have been improved! This valley veteran is a gem. My boyfriend & I decided to have an impromptu Thursday afternoon date. The atmosphere is classic brasserie, wood paneling, chandeliers, white linens. We ordered escargot to start & shared the mussels mariniere avec pomme frites. Lots of crusty bread for sopping up the yummy garlic laden sauce. A lovely bottle of Malbec was shared. The real magic is the service. Our server Alex has been there for 22+ years. He is multilingual and quite interesting. We felt that sense of being part of a community. Truly a magical experience. Planning to meet our friends there soon.
Be the first to ReplyOmg I love this place.
Very upscale food and drinks. You will spend a pretty penny here and it is completely worth it. I had the steak and fries. The fresh garlic on my steak was amazing. 10/10 I have told everyone to try this place at least once.
Be the first to ReplyI do recommend the place.
We have dined there several times. Not easy to get early reservation.
