Mission Inn Hotel & Spa Riverside Reviews from The Last Year
Christmas magic
This is an architectural gem with spanish roots in Riverside. Walking in side the inn is like entering a labyrinth of spiral staircases, hidden hallways, and secret courtyards surrounded by lush landscaping, truly spectacular! if you're interested in a romantic getaway, look no further... Probably no surprise, that a place that looks like this has had it's share of famous people. From President Roosevelt to Clark Gable and many others. You can take guided tours (which I highly recommend). For me the best time to come is Christmas time, as the Inn becomes a breath-taking scene with 1000's of lights. However I should warn you with this also comes many many crowds.... but so worth it. Spend the night and see how the rich and famous live.
This was a terrible experience
1) Aside from it being pretty, I have nothing good to say. My room was in a back corner and it sounded like a party was going on next door. It was so loud I knew I wasn't going to get any sleep. 2) They do not have a room service menu and do not advertise that they even have it. I discovered that they did and not only did I have to send the food back, but it was $10 more than what was listed on the menu. 3) The customer service was subpar and I get that this is a "historic" hotel, but we can close it down now. I managed my expectations and this was the worst hotel stay I've ever had. I checked out 3hrs after arrival. It wasnt worth anymore of my time or money.
Cancelling my reservation
I wish I could give this place a 0 zero. I booked 2 raincross rooms last summer for March 14 thru March 17 2024. This was for a family outing. We r from New Jersey. My nephew family and us are meeting my other nephew who lives in riverside California. I paid for our flights for a van and bought 10 tickets to Disney land. I get a call from mission inn 18 days before we r to fly out. I was told that the hotel was overbooked and could I change the dates that I was going to the mission. I told them absolutely not since everything was paid for. So I thought that was the end. 3 days later I get another call now telling me that I would not be able to check in on March 14 but would be able on March 15 due to maintenance issue. Liar liar. I told them that was unacceptable. But instead of trying to work with me I was told that either I check in on the 15th or she would cancel my entire reservation. I then told her that this was not due to maintenance but the hotel was overbooked. She told me that was not true. So I asked her I got a call 3 days earlier that told me that was the case. I have bee going to the mission inn since 2015. I go every year. But I guess this isn’t very important to management that they have loyal customers. Well not anymore. It’s unfortunate that the mission inn doesn’t care about their customers only about money. I have written them twice about this and I have yet to hear from them. So in my opinion book another hotel in riverside. Don’t bother booking at the mission inn since u won’t know if your reservation is cancelled. Thank goodness I was able to get rooms at courtyard by Marriott. My vacation won’t be ruined because of the rudeness and inconsiderate way the mission inn treated us. Stay away
Mission Inn Leaves You Without a Room If Someone Else Reserves at a Higher Room Rate
I made my reservation at the Mission Inn 2 months in advance to attend a conference in Riverside. I've been staying there for years when I travel to Riverside and always loved the hotel. This year, 2 weeks prior to the conference, the hotel canceled my reservation because they were able to book other conference attendees at a higher rate. To make it more insulting, they sent me an email stating that they canceled my reservation per my request. I made no such request and was not able to get any of the management to return my calls. If the Mission Inn has to cancel reservations due to overbooking, they should cancel a more recent reservation than mine, but clearly they don't care if they leave me without a room at the last minute, in favor of another guest willing to pay more as the event got closer in time. Bad business, regular customer lost!
Bad experience
Had a pretty rough stay. We purchased a RainCross room because they said they were out of the lower level rooms. this increased the price of our stay. When we got there, they said they were out of RainCross rooms and put us in a lower level room at the RainCross price. The room the first night was next to the street and the noise level was unbelievable through the whole night. After several attempts , they put us in another room the next day that was almost half the size with a broken refrigerator. We called everyday to get it replaced and they said they would be right up. We never received a working one. I said something to the manager at check out about our experience and she said she would take a look at our bill later in the day. After returning home...I called several times and left messages. No one has ever called me back nor was money refunded for staying in the lower level room.
The Hotel of Deferred Maintenance!
I'm sure at one time this hotel was lovely, charming, and unique. In 2024, it is in such need of repair and attention that it is really not worth staying at. My daughter and I spent one night there in mid February. We arrived at 4:30 and the line for check-in was at least 45 people deep. We went out, returned at 7pm, and the line was about 10 deep. But that's not the point of my poor review (although they really should deal with that check-in line!). The point is that they upgraded us because they'd given away our reserved room (a Mission King). The new room was a "Presidential Suite." We were excited! Until we exited the elevator on the fourth floor (the suites are in a strange part of the hotel...outside and surrounding the courtyard). Everything up there looked so rickety and broken-down (one staircase leading to a sort of terrace area has a sign: DO NOT USE STAIRCASE!), we were afraid to walk too close to the edge. Our room absolutely reeked of damp--from either a leak or the previous weekend's rains? To compensate, they'd left the AC on 60 degrees. (Even though it was cold--like 43 degrees-- outside!) I turned off the AC, and hoped to open a window. But all the windows are painted shut. The room itself was bizarre: a strange locked-off staircase led to a balcony and tiny room (within our own room!), an odd mildewy seating area with a very ancient gas fireplace, two doors that were locked (who knows where they led?), and a bathroom that hadn't been touched since 1987. The furniture is haphazard and mismatched (I'm sure they just cobbled together whatever they had lying about in storage) and the drapes were heavy satin. It was so hodge-podge and old and just TIRED....When I looked out the window and saw the soulless Marriott across the way, all I could think of was how for the first time in my life, I'd rather be at the soulless corporate hotel! The poor Mission Inn is in such need of love and attention, but I'm not sure their pockets are big enough to fix it. This hotel needs a LOT of work!
Charming as a museum, terrible as a hotel
This is basically a beautiful old museum trying to function as a hotel. Its architecture is something to behold, so fascinating especially during the Festival of Lights. The hotel aspect of it (amenities, servíce, etc), however, is much less impressive. The rooms are due for a refresh, wear and tear are visible everywhere, musty odors, leaky roofs (buckets in hallway to catch drips!) etc, all expected from an old and poorly maintained hotel. All that may be tolerable if only the service was good and paid attention to meeting customers needs instead of relying on just the charm of the hotel to keep customers happy. The charm wore off quickly for me when I settled in my room and realized there was no hairdryer in our room, only one bathrobe, paltry toiletries, leaky faucets, no sheer drapes over our windows just blackout drapes, housekeeping seems to be by request they never came to clean/tidy up our room during our two nights stay even though we requested it. Then they charge $9.95 for Wi-Fi when it’s free in most hotels. The staff were mostly indifferent, tired, didn’t look engaged doing their job, maybe they’re understaffed. Overall, it’s a fascinating historical place, lovely architecture and museum but as a hotel it’s a major fail. They need to pay attention to that part of it. It’s sad how this charming hotel is like an old pretty lady hanging on to its beauty through lots of make up but inside it’s withering. Certainly not good value for the money. Visit the hotel, admire the architecture then stay elsewhere.
THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
This was one of the worst experiences of my life… booked the hotel… payed in advance. Looking to celebrate my 30th wedding anniversary. Show up and they tell me they have no clean rooms available… after confirming 2 hours earlier that we were coming… had to drive back to San Diego in the pouring rain.. I called the hotel for the next 4 days( over 60 times) everyone from the general manager down… nobody even had the courtesy to call me back… what a poorly run hotel. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE EVER STAY THERE!!!
Must visit specially in Christmas.
Great last Christmas weekend. We had to move to another room r/t wet carpet. Our room was had a beautiful courtyard view. It was the last Christmas wkn so it was magical. We had some drinks at the bar. It’s really not too much to do inside the hotel other than have some drinks and walk around. We had a weird encounter with probably a ghost in our room but it a was funny encounter. Anyways we don’t believe in ghost. There is a lot of bars and restaurants around the hotel. I felt safe for probably 2 blocks around the hotel walking really late, during day time it’s very safe. We will definitely come back. I had a great exploring the amazing old hotel and the Christmas lights are just breathtaking.
Front desk
I was invited to give a talk at UCR. The hotel appears to be pleasant; however, I noticed that approximately half of the rooms are situated along noisy streets. You will be very likely assigned to one of the rooms. In my case, I was given a room in a corner, making it impossible to get a good night's sleep. I requested a room change at the front desk, but they informed me that there were no available rooms, which I find hard to believe. The front desk suggested that a room change could be arranged for the following day, but their attitude made it seem like I had no choice but to accept the room that was assigned to me.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
