3.5/5 I came here for dim sum on a weekend day. There was quite a wait, despite how big the restaurant was, and we ended up waiting for ~25 minutes for a party of 2. We were seated upstairs and given the menu to choose from. Overall, some items were really great (mostly the classic dim sum items, like chicken feet, har gow, shrimp rice rolls, and spare ribs), but the items that weren't dim sum weren't as good and were lacking in flavor and seasoning (like the stir-fry noodles and vegetables). I thought it was really interesting that they serve the pork belly with sugar on top!

Service is hit or miss, but dim sum is amazing! Everything but dim sum items are ordered from the iPad at the table. I highly recommend the salt and pepper smelt fish and fried shrimp roll. Great for a group meal!

Overall a fun, downtown spot especially if you have a larger group. This restaurant is near Millennium Park and the river, so good spot to go to when site seeing. Highly recommend making a reservation because it seemed every table was full when we sat down. Upon sitting down there is hot tea and variety of sauces. You order through an iPad on your table and there are pictures for the items which is helpful. Service was quick, but we had to flag down someone to order non-alcoholic beverages. The food was served quickly and everything tasted fresh and high quality. Afterwards they bring almond cookies and fortune cookies which is a nice touch. For 7 people we ordered a lot of different items and it came out to $160 before tip, which is pretty reasonable for a large group. Overall good restaurant only complaint was not being able to ask servers questions or have someone check in on the table.
Be the first to ReplyThree words: Sunday dim sum.
I've probably been here at least 20 times in the last 2 years. Yes, it's that good. For the dim sum novices, there are tons of pictures on the menu so it's easy to order. Their iPad also has tons of selections that you can choose from. They have about 7 different locations, but hands down the Chinatown one is the best. Make sure to make reservations or you'll end up waiting in line for an hour!

Pretty disappointed since Chicago's Chinatown is the second oldest in USA. This is strictly for dim sum dishes. Spare ribs, egg tart, bbq bun - no favor. Chicken feet no peanuts.Turnip cake ok.Siu Mai - ehYou'll like if you you're not Asian.

MingHin is hands down one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Chicago! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the chic and modern decor. The restaurant has a bright and spacious atmosphere, with plenty of seating options available. Now, on to the food - it was absolutely amazing! I started with the dim sum, and it was some of the best I've had in the city. The steamed shrimp dumplings were a particular standout, with juicy and perfectly cooked shrimp wrapped in delicate, tender dough. I also loved the pork buns, which were fluffy and flavorful. For my entree, I ordered the salt and pepper squid, which was outstanding. The squid was perfectly crispy and tender, with just the right amount of seasoning. The dish came with a side of dipping sauce that complemented the flavors perfectly.Another standout dish at MingHin is their Peking duck. The duck is served in a traditional style, with thin, crispy skin and tender meat that melts in your mouth. The dish comes with thin pancakes, scallions, and hoisin sauce, making for a delicious and interactive dining experience.MingHin's menu is extensive, with a wide variety of dishes to choose from, including some vegetarian and gluten-free options. The seafood options are particularly noteworthy, with a great selection of fresh fish and shellfish. The service at MingHin is also top-notch. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and they are always happy to make recommendations or offer suggestions.Overall, I highly recommend MingHin to anyone looking for delicious Chinese cuisine in a chic and modern setting. The dim sum, Peking duck, and seafood dishes are particularly noteworthy, but everything on the menu is outstanding. I will definitely be returning in the future!

Staff were very polite and welcoming and the restaurant had a nice ambiance to it. My only complaint would be the long wait time to be seated but what can you expect from such a delicious place to go eat at. Overall great experience, would definitely come again.

Be the first to ReplyProbably the best dim sum I've ever had.
Large portions and just high quality dim sum. And I love that we can get dim sum here even as late as midnight!

Came here with a party of four around 1pm on a Sunday and got seated in 20 minutes. Ordering is super easy and we also asked for the chrysanthemum tea. BBQ Pork Bun - I like the steamed ones. Meat was a little pungent this time.Baked Creamy Egg Yolk Bun - salty and sweet. Also felt the yolk was a little pungent this time. Beef Crepe - I usually get shrimp or dough crepes. I thought the beef was a little spongey.Chicken Feet - go to for dinner sum. Sweet and tender.Crispy Pork Belly - soft and flavorful. The skin had a nice chew, not too hard.Green Chive Dumplings - really flavorful and crispy. This was our friends favorite Har Gow - yummy and savorySiu Mai - also a go to for dim sum if you eat porkSpare Ribs - so flavorful with the fermented black beanStuffed Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf - also a dim sum go to. Helps round out the meal with something fillingTripe - so tender and flavorful and not smelly at all
Be the first to ReplyNice, popular dim sum restaurant in Chicago's Chinatown.
It got quite busy around lunchtime on a Saturday, wait time will vary depending on what time you arrive. Prices seemed reasonable per dish (around $5-10), and for two people, you'll probably want to order around 8-10 dishes. The interior is large, spacious, and comfortable. The staff was very hospitable and efficient, and they also had someone making animal-oriented balloons for children. They have multiple locations around the city, offering greater access. Parking here can be via street parking or validated with reduced price to $2 in the larger, gravel parking lot.

Terrible dim sum. Cheap? So so. I was quoted 5 minutes for the wait time. I knew better. The standing room had I kid you not, 50 people crunched up waiting to be called. I felt like I was at the asian market. COVID? Covid where? Everyone was touching one another. It was more like a 20 minute wait. After getting seated the server tried serving me tea. I refused it. Was it free? Or did they charge for it? Not sure. But either way, I told the server I didn't want it. She looked at me like I was the craziest person. Maybe I should of gone with the tea... Water was disgusting. Dim sum selection was not as broad as I'd hope. They had forgot some items so I ended up canceling them. The dim sum here is VERY different from California dim sum. I was weirded out but was very open to it. The taste was very different and all the way down to their soy sauce/dipping sauce. I guess it's the best they've gotten so you just got to make due.
Be the first to ReplyConsistent and classy.
Ugh my favorite Chinese restaurant by far. The menu can get a little confusing at first but try everything, it is so good.
Be the first to ReplyIt was very busy on a Sunday afternoon.
We came in and we're ready to go upstairs for a reservation but we're early and wanted to wait upstairs for more people. The gentleman that was in charge of the upstairs told us to wait downstairs after he saw my husband and I sit down. We went back downstairs to wait. After the person that the reservation was under got here, we went back upstairs and waited for more people. The gentleman walked over to us again and said we have to wait downstairs. This time we didn't move because we checked in and we're standing by our table. He kept looking our way looking bothered by this. Anyway, fast forward, we got our appetizers and tea, but forgot to order drinks from the iPad that had the menu. Most of our table ordered smoothies, but then 20 minutes later, the server told us that there were absolutely no smoothies. Ok then, may we get water since our table waited 20 minutes to find out that there are no smoothies and did not get served water before getting our appetizers. The food was good but the service was not the greatest. I completely understand that it gets hectic, but it's sad that we are getting sent back to the first floor when waiting for the rest of our party and feeling like we are being watched and not getting water to drink until we are almost done with our appetizers. There needs to be better organization. I will give this restaurant 3 out of 5 stars due to lack of good customer service.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good, servers were super nice, pricing was good.
Really solid experience overall would definitely go again and try more foods. Eel, lotus rice, and the water chestnuts were great, others felt like normal oriental experience tasting foods. Menu does have a lot that's easy to share as a table and pricing that was comfortable enough for us all get multiple things to try

I've been here a handful of times as my cousin is a waitress here. My partner and I came on Tuesday night with their friends, and we each ordered a dish we liked and shared. We wanted to have enough food to take home, and we were all super hungry. Our server was very attentive, he proactively told one of the girls at the table that what she picked out had peanuts in it (life saving moment because she actually does have an allergy), and he also gave us a heads up that the dishes are family style and gave us the option to change our order if we wanted to -- we thanked him and ended up sticking with what we ordered. I think that's top notch service because it could've been a dinner gone wrong type situation, we didn't even think to ask about the ingredients, and the name and pictures of the items on the menu didn't show that us that it was cooked with peanut sauce. The food here is portioned well, and for someone who's picky about Chinese food, I can honestly say the food here is authentic. I'd recommend Minghin to anyone in the area wanting authentic Chinese cuisine, and they also have several locations in the Chicagoland area.
