Amazing peking duck
The duck was as good as I remembered it. This time we ordered the dim sum and it was fantastic. Service was also fantastic. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyGreat views, good if pricey food
We met friends for dim sum. The restaurant is beautifully kitted out and offers wonderful views
There is an extensive menu
The din sum were smaller han we have had in Chinatown, they are considerably more expensive, but then this is Kensington
Many of the dishes were excellent though a few proved to be a flat in terms of taste
2 Stars due to Service
We had a weekday reservation for lunch. We saw reviews about the food, service, and views and were excited to finally get to try the place after several attempts without reservations. We were a party of 3.
The restaurant is on a top floor of the hotel; the doorman at the entrance was very helpful to point us in the right direction.
We walked in and the restaurant was fairly empty. The host walked us to our table which was by the window next to a column, so since the restaurant was empty we asked to move to another table, which looked set for 4. He said he couldn't accommodate 3 people there. We pointed to another table set up similarly, he said the same thing. We pointed to yet another table that looked set for 2 and again, he said he couldn't have 3 people there. I want to note that these table sizes are all the EXACT same size. You could just either take away a setting or add a setting and make it a 3-person table. So it would seem that this host simply didn't want to accommodate us. Very strange, no? It's not strange if you understand London...even in a Chinese restaurant. It's clear many who work here have a preferred type of customer.
Service - relatively cold compared to how tables around us were treated. They had the menu explained to them, smiles, general courtesies. We were simply asked what we wanted. In terms of food only two things stood out to me: the duck which was good, and the squid which was not.
Also to note, 2 of the tables we pointed to remained empty the entire time we were there.
Fine, you fooled us once, but you won't again.
Saturday lunch at Min Jiang
Lovely restaurant in Kensington. Top floor of the Garden House hotel. Lots of Chinese customers, always a good sign.
Stunning views.
Beautiful, elegant, refined food. Not cheap, but not crazy money.
Good service.
You have to take the speciality Peking duck.
But everything including dim sum dumplings was amazing.
Lovely birthday lunch
I came here for my birthday with my husband and really enjoyed it. Staff were friendly, food was delicious, and the location of it being on the 10th floor of the hotel meant that we had beautiful views over the park.
We ordered the 1/2 Beijing duck, steamed dim sum platter, fried yam croquettes and xiao long bao which was plenty for the two of us.
The duck skin could have been a little more crispier but was very delicious and just as good as what we had in Macau/ Hong Kong. The pancakes were the best Iโve ever had, and when they went cold they were still so soft. We then opted to have the duck meat made into lettuce wraps which was nicer than what weโve tried in Macau/ Hong Kong.
The rest of the dim sum were very tasty and you can really tell that the ingredients were fresh and of quality. I was extremely happy with the yam croquettes as that is one of my favourite dim sum, and despite having it across different dim sum restaurants in the UK I have never found any to be good at all or even close to ones in Hong Kong as theyโve always been stodgy and very heavy. Min Jiangโs was the complete opposite!
There are a couple of minor things that I thought would have made our experience better. Upon booking on OpenTable I had specified it was for my birthday but there was no mention of this from start to finish.
Service could have also been more attentive like asking if we needed any more pancakes or accompaniments for the Beijing Duck, or checking whether we wanted to refill our Jasmine tea. The tea was very nice (we had the Jasmine Supreme) but was very strong towards the bottom. The tables were also slightly too close to other tables as the people on the table behind me kept hitting against my chair when they were getting in and out.
Despite these minor issues they wouldnโt stop me from coming back again. Would recommend!
Dinner
Worst dinner in London, ever...
So salty to be unhealthy, chicken past its prime, it used to be a good restaurant, sadly
OK food and not so good service
We went there a couple of times and even though some food is tasty, some is not very good. We wanted some soup and asked for the rest of the Peking duck to be made into soup. What arrived was a weird tasting soup, mostly with duck bones, that we did not want to eat. Also, there is a short chinese waiter (wearing black when we went) who was getting uncomfortably close to people when serving, and seemed to be oblivious about it. Saw that happen a few times and people were leaning back. Not what you expect in a high end restaurant, surely someone would notice and do something about it. Not recommended.

We celebrated my Birthday here , the whole experience was outstanding. The food was exceptional and the ambience and nighttime view of London made it so special. The Peking Duck and pancakes were fantastic and just melt in your mouth and the Dim Sum so tasty all the staff were very attentive and Thomson even produced a birthday desert with candles on it - definitely recommend this place it was a fantastic experience

What a little gem. With only 16 covers twice a night you definitely feel special. Food was sensational. Just wish Iโd tried the duck now. Would love to visit again.
