Mexican Sugar Dallas Reviews from The Last Year
Met up with friends while I was in town.
It's a cool space. It's well lit with a good sized bar. We all ordered the smoked tequila old fashioned, which we all liked but I would have preferred it with less sugar. I also thought they took far too long to make as I wasn't very busy. Our waiter was very nice and did an excellent job highlighting items on the menu. My friends order the pork chop and said it was good. I went with the Marisco Veracruz and loved it.

So we frequent the one in Las Colinas.
While the service is always great there... but today we wanted to venture out and go into Dallas. We sat down right away outside, took 10 minutes and the manager finally approached and said the server would be with us right away. Another 7 months and he finally approached. We ordered our drinks and food right away. Took another 20 minutes to get drinks and another 15-20 to get food. So we sat there for 35 mins before we even got drinks. Server comes by and drops forks but no napkins. I had to ask the manager for it and I complained. Server came up finally with our food and I asked for salt. Never got it. Had to ask the manager for that as well. So I finally paid but we ordered one more round and the server was quiet and rude when dropping it off because he saw I tipped 12%. I'm a tipper when I go out, I work in customer service so do better Michael. I'll never return again. Also the manager needs some work because he was not a good manager.

So far so good! I'm making this review as I sit at the bar, with my lovely bartender/waitress justice! We started off with chips queso and two classic margaritas, which are poured from the tap, and let me tell you... they are strong as hell! even my bf who's a drinker agreed! Next was the food we had a whole fried snapper and barria ribs! Service was immaculate we had fun and can't wait to come back!
The service was amazing and everything we had was great.
Carne asada tacos were perfect. The coconut tres leches was worth trying. The decor was beautiful and very chic.
Beautiful decor and layout; nice and clean.
Good party atmosphere but not too loud. Music was a touch too loud but we adjusted. Service was professional and just the right amount of attention. Food was good, not great: I had the Carne Asada Tacos w/rice and beans. Meat was tender and corn shells were homemade. Rice and beans were just OK. I also tasted the Chicken Enchiladas and the Chicken Tacos. Meat was nicely flavored and tender. We also had the Queso Blanco with plenty of chips and salsa. The touch of guacamole was delightful. I didn't make it upstairs but seemed like another bar and dining room. Just FYI, I had a real hard time digesting this meal (no illness); maybe the corn tortillas as I rarely eat them.
Best Mexican food & margs I've ever had.
Hands down. Restaurant was incredibly loud & noisy, but we were seated on the quiet patio with a incredibly attentive waitress. Our wait even with a reservation on a Friday night ended up being about 45 minutes, but once we sat down our food was extremely fast. Would and will always recommend!!!
Stopped by this evening without reservations but clearly
Stopped by this evening without reservations but clearly not super busy. Host proceeded to recite a generic phrase about wait times and no reservations blah-blah. We went ahead and waited 50 minutes (35 minutes was the approximate) no call no nothing we were outside the restaurant waiting. Heck I'm still waiting let me know when the table is ready..... almost like they are told to discriminate on the Mexicans or similar leaving the open space for the rest of the population The Mexican than won't ever go back
Fantastic restaurant - we had the absolute best service
Fantastic restaurant - we had the absolute best service from Tracy! She was an absolute guru on the menu, drinks - you name it, she knew it. Our dinner was extremely enjoyable as the food was excellent and Tracy was an absolute gem! This girl needs to be running the restaurant, seriously. I have encountered many servers in my time but, never anyone as delightful and knowledgeable regarding the restaurant's food/drink items.
This place is so nice.
I would say I do not like beans at all but I dream about their refried beans. They are so good the hibiscus margarita is also really good. The waiters are really nice and quick. I 10/10 would recommend especially wig you like a rooftop vibe they have a place you can sit outside downstairs and upstairs and it is beautiful!
Average food and service
Sunday lunch. Despite several servers standing around and the place not being that busy, we waited close to 10 minutes for chips and drinks. My wife got a salad, and I got the chicken enchiladas. Frankly, they just weren't that good. On par with El Fenix. (We are local and have Tex-Mex 1-2x per week.) I'd also suggest Mexican Sugar replace its curved plates with flat ones. Mine looked too much like a big dog dish. Service was fairly attentive, but I didn't appreciate the server hovering over me while I determined the tip. The 20% minimum was pretty generous in this case. And fair warning: don't take the Olive Street exit. It's way too narrow. You'll either scrape your bumper or a rim, as I did. Taken together, we won't be returning.
Mexican Sugar
Great Service and food, can’t wait to go back! My favorite item was the mango salad, the margaritas were great too, I would go for any occasion!
Phenomenal
Absolutely amazing!! Honestly the most amazing service we have experienced in Texas!! Hayes was not only a host, an enabler and a welcomed bad influence. He just…. No words other than extraordinary!!! We just sat back and enjoyed an experience unlike anything we have ever had!! Can’t wait to return. Thank you Mexican Sugar and Thank you Hayes
Mexican Sugar - LOVE!
Went with with some girlfriends for an al fresco dinner up on the balcony after cocktails at The Ritz-Carlton’s Rattlesnake Bar. Mexican Sugar Uptown is stunning – really a beautiful restaurant. Service was surprisingly fantastic seeing as they just opened. We shared a bunch of food and everything was fantastic but my absolute favorite was the Ahi Tuna Crudo - YUM! The server recommended the La Catrina, a Mezcal based cocktail that I was apprehensive to order, but I’m so glad I took him up on the suggestion – I am obsessed! Can’t wait to bring my husband here for date night. SO GOOD!
Great views, service and tasty food
Sat on the upstairs patio for Brunch around 3pm. The place was completely packed. The view and decor of this place is top notch as was the service. Try the French Toast, hands down best I’ve had in town.
Sexican Sugar!
Mexican Sugar Uptown is A REAL VIBE. Stunning design. Incredible location in Uptown right across the street from The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas. Two big bars (one two floors) with what had to be the largest mezcal/tequila selection I have ever seen. Food is KILLER. Short Rib Fajitas and Whole Fried Snapper for the win! For cocktails my wife loved the Margarita flight and the Esco-Bar. The Concha for dessert sealed it off, and I love that they serve coffee from Mexico. Every detail thoughtful and delicious. Service was hospitable but not obtrusive. Run. Don’t walk!

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
