The ghee roast was a treat and the mushroom masala and saag paneer were great. I will be returning. Lovely and spacious restaurant.

Living in LA for 3 years and it's been a staple forever!! Highly recommend to anyone who's craving authentic South Indian food!
Be the first to ReplyBy far my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles.
The food is some of the best I've had in the whole city, it is run by some of the nicest people I've met, and it is truly impossible to beat! This is a must-eat for sure.
Be the first to ReplyMy family ate here, and the ambiance was better than a lot
My family ate here, and the ambiance was better than a lot of Indian restaurants in the Bay Area. Very busy on a Saturday night with a crowded, small parking lot. I've never seen such a large Indian menu -- Dosas, Southern Indian and Northern cuisines! We started with Bhel Puri, and all enjoyed the fresh flavors. But I had wished they offered extra mint chutney on the side. My son had the chicken tikka masala and I tried it and thought it had good flavor. The dosas were super large with yummy potato masala filling. Service was great, and we were unfortunately too full to try dessert.

Mayura is an LA classic! One of my family members first introduced this place to me as a good option for getting a comfort South Indian meal away from home. The food is authentic and the staff is wonderful and warm. I highly recommend the podi idli. It comes with crispy onions on top and it's delicious! One tip is to stick to the South Indian food when you come here! That's what they specialize in and that's what's best on their menu. If you're looking for a cozy place to experience real Kerala food in LA, come here

This place is really busy on the weekends so plan to wait, we came in at 3pm on a Sunday and waited to be seated. We scoured the buffet but the 35 is honestly absurd! Luckily we could order off the menu and we ended up getting dosa, podi idli, and gobi Manchurian. The dishes were tasty, dosa could have been crispier but idli was the highlight.

Absolutely phenomenal and really reasonable prices! I haven't had such good idly outside of Tamil Nadu.
Be the first to ReplyThe very famous and the only authentic Kerala restaurant
The very famous and the only authentic Kerala restaurant run by a Keralite/malayali family selling some very authentic dishes from the southern Indian state of Kerala. The service was fast and the food was good even on a very busy festive day on the occasion of Vishu. There were so many options, I couldn't even get to desserts, I was so full, happy and content. Meeting Mrs. Padmini was definitely the highlight of my visit, she is so sweet, kind and funny.
Be the first to ReplyThis used to be a decent place to grab South Indian dishes
This used to be a decent place to grab South Indian dishes before Covid. The thali we had last time was the worst I ever had. We still decided to give the restaurant one more try. We ordered Kerala parotta and goat curry. The parottas they served us were frozen and came from packets. (I asked the owner to confirm my suspicions and he said yes). To the owners - please have the minimum decency to inform your customer that the food you are serving is not cooked there and are frozen food reheated. If I wanted frozen food I can go to an Indian grocery store and get myself a packet for 4 dollars. I don't have to spend 6 dollars for 3 porattas.
Be the first to ReplyNot horrible not great.
Atmosphere horrible like eating i a diner or 3rd world country. Service was bad had to wait a long time before ordering. Tika masala wasn't great not as succulent as I've had at other places. Maybe this was the wrong dish ti order here. Mano juice was canned and fullOf sugar. In all the place seemed very disorganized waiters running every where and not really caring about customer. But I really came here for food and that wasn't impressive at least for the dish I had.

Be the first to ReplyThis place has the best South Indian cuisine in Los Angeles.
I've been going here since 2011 and it was good back then and it's still good now! Get the chicken vindaloo, if you like spicy food, but they also have traditional Indian dishes (like tikka masala) that are great! They also make the best appam here. Look it up. It's a great tasting fluffy/light pancake/bread side. Owner is incredibly nice, attentive and cares about her customers deeply. She loves making people happy and always has a smile.Great place!

The food is decent, which is to say it's better than most Indian in LA (I have high standards as I've lived in places like London and NYC, which are much better for Indian cuisine).Where things really failed was the service. It took 45 minutes to get our food, and when it did come, the wait staff was terse, thoughtless, and seemed to put in zero effort. They delivered the dishes all on a huge platter which they deposited at one end of a too-small table. They then forgot we existed for the remainder of the meal. The ambiance is that your basic LA strip mall joint, which might have some charm if the food were as hyped up as the reviews, and especially if the service had been better. Overall they'd do well to invest in some soft surfaces to dampen the sound as the place gets very loud and echo-y. I'd go back for takeout, as it would remove the poor service and the loud environment from the meal experience.

Mayura is in a tiny strip mall at the corner of Venice and Motor in Culver City. Inside, the dining room is long and deep with buffet chafing dishes and framed photos to the right, tables down the middle, and booths to the left. There are even hanging light fixtures shaped like dosas. They have a hectic delivery app business in front. Walk past that, and wait to be seated. This frenetic business offers cuisine from Kerala, a state on the southwestern end of India. Kerala Special Appam with Chicken Curry: The dish is presented in a big metal plate. The Kerala chicken curry is flavored with coconut and spices. The curry is well balanced between the fragrant cinnamon and cloves that you taste at first and the sweetness of the cardamom and coconut milk. The meat has been stewed until tender.Appam is a white, fermented rice flour pancake with coconut milk and big air bubbles. It is dense, spongy, chewy, and crispy on the flat side. Pinch off little bits of the appam and grab the meat and curry to make finger sized tacos. Dip quickly before the appam disintegrates in the curry. Parking: The strip mall parking is always packed. There are usually a couple delivery app drivers double parked. Street parking is also hard to come by, but you'll get a nice walk.

My wife and I tried their famous Kerala chicken curry and Kerala spicy red fish curry. We both are Indians and had high expectations for the food but were very disappointed. Food was bland to the point that we could not finish it.

They accepted last minute reservation! So nice! I called them around 6:15pm and scheduled 6:45pm reservation. Servers were nice and foods tasted amazing. Especially mango lassi was fantastic. One thing I didn't like was I received my main (dinner special) in 50 mins...

This was our go to lunch and dinner place when we visited LA in January 2023. The owner of the place was so welcoming and friendly each time we visited the restuarant. We ordered a variety of items from the menu over the course of 5-6 visits.Kerala porotta: Authentic Malabar porotta, layered and soft in texture.Idiyappam: Piping hot, super soft and one of the best items on their menu.Chicken curry: Very flavourful and moderately spicy. Loved the flavour of coconut milk/oil in it.Beef fry: first time ever tried beef and loved it.Fish curry: authentic in flavour and very deliciousBombino fish fry: Not upto the standard, burnt in parts and didn't have a good flavour to it.Non-veg Thali: in most parts not that good. Only like the rice pudding (payasam) that got served with it.Idli: Soft and steamy. Loved it.Dosa/Masala dosa: Crispy, and very flavourful when had with the chutney that was served with it.Downsides:Limited Parking. Most times crowded irrespective of weekdays/weekends.Food takes a long time to be served when busy.

Have had this restaurant on my list to try for a while! Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon around 3:30pm and was easily able to get seated. We ordered vegetable samosas, lamb karahi, aloo gobi, garlic naan, and mango lassis (great for a hot day). Of all the dishes, the stand out was definitely the lamb karahi. I personally would not repeat the samosas as I've had better elsewhere but everything else was perfectly good.
