Be the first to ReplyBig disappointment after high expectations. Wouldn't recommend.
We booked this months ago, knowing the history of the restaurant and having eaten in a few Nobus and many other Japanese restaurants before so we were expecting something great and memorable! We were very surprised and, whilst it may sound harsh, underwhelmed and disappointed. We were seated outside, under a canopy/tent, in the extension of the restaurant. I stress 'outside', with only two heaters for about 20 tables. It was freezing! We were very cold and the staff kindly moved us to a table closer to a heater, but it was still cold. The 'decor' in the tent was almost non-existent and to say the least we felt overdressed. The atmosphere was good, with lots of other diners. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Food-wise: the chicken udon broth was delicious; the king crab fried rice was virtually tasteless and 50$?!; both the salmon teriyaki and black cod were tasty but all fish was overcooked, and thankfully the sushi was good, but not special. Overall... I appreciate the significance of the place and its history, but the food didn't taste amazing, wasn't special, was over-priced, and the whole set-up/dining environment was... uncomfortable! I feel it was a disservice to Chef Nobu's talent and reputation!
Be the first to ReplyOmakase lunch - average
Price was $130 which is quite average or maybe even on the low side. The pieces served are all recognizable, some with pre-flavoring but about half doesn’t. Quite traditional LA type old style sushi. Rice not flavored or treated, the rice itself was too large relative to the fish. One of the salted flavoring was way too powerful (too much salt). Overall you leave with the feeling that his place is well past its prime. This was the first Nobu restaurant where he was discovered by Robert De Niro, but obviously it hasn’t really kept up. Lacks sophistication as well.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect, exactly what we hoped for
This restaurant met our expectations completely. Friendly welcome, good atmosphere and wonderful food. The service was discreet but attentive and the menu extensive and completely delicious. When we are back in the area we will be back. Truly a wonderful experience
Be the first to ReplyQuality abounds here
Fish was worth the price IMHO. Sashimi specials were excellent. Opted for Cooked Chilean Sea Bass w/shaved Black Truffles. Excellent! Cream Brûlée trio to close.
Be the first to ReplyToo expensive!!!!
Not pleased with the overall experience. Asked for extra plate and got an extra menu, big difference on your check.ruined the experience for me tbh. fish taseted kinda tasteless. Big empty room, not my kind of thing. Gives me a cold feeling. Staff not so friendly made me feel like I'm doing them a favour. Not gonna go there again

One of the best Japanese restaurant we have been in our life, we could eat there every day. The food is sublime and the service perfect. This is the first time we find new dishes that we had never tried in a Japanese restaurant, especially with this quality. Fantastic. They have a huge list of superb Sake as well. Perfection. We highly recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyDarn, was hoping for more
This restaurant used to serve much better sashimi and sushi than we experienced tonight. Service and ambiance good as before but something has happened, in our opinion, over the last few years. Pricey is ok if the quality is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyI cant’t wait to come back!
Totally amazing! Presentation and quality of food are outstanding! Its expensive but you certainly get what you pay for. Ambience was cozy. Service was excellent. Loved every dish we ordered!! Kudos to Chef Nobu!
Be the first to ReplyAVOID!
Food was ok, service horrible. Basically really poor service. We have been to several Nobu restaurants across the globe, and a recommendation from us is to avoid this one! Service was horrible, wrong food, long waiting, poorly presented and the waitress came afterwards and asked us why the tip was so low… well, if you do not even try to do your job, what do you expect?
Be the first to ReplyHorrible food.
Absolutely crap food and service. Spoons were dirty. Wet towel had ink on it. No apologies for that whatsoever. Omakase was very poor. Sushi chef was very amateur. Nothing like Japan, or Hong Kong, at all. Shame on Nobu.
Be the first to Replyhad my sushi fix
always wonderful, nothing to report other than nothing has changed and that is a good thing. Love it here!
Be the first to ReplyTop food quality
He deserve what is famous for. Top quality for the food. The restaurant is typical Japanese style, so dark, simple and not posh. The only suggestion is about the reservations, they could certainly improve here :-) Suggested!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food great service
Excellent foods in Beverly Hills. We like the location no traffic easy to get there. We called last minute but they were able to accommodate us, serve is great food all fresh. we keep looking forward to go back.
Be the first to Replysome of the best Japanese dishes i have had in years!
the ceviche is amazing, the special fish was fantastic, the steak was so tender, everything was wonderful and surprisingly affordable items on the menu as well, this restaurant is a must when coming to LA.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals of my life!!
I've been to other Matsuhisas in Munich and Aspen.
Nothing prepared me for the Omakase I had here in Matsuhisa Los Angeles!!! We were blown away - such a great experience!
We sat at the Sushi Bar and Chef Katsu took us on a divine journey of foodie bliss!
Our Waiter Junior took great care of us and made sure our Sake was ice cold.
I can't stop thinking of that meal.
I look forward to eating there again on my next trip to California!!!
Thank you for an amazing dinner!!
Incredible food! The place needs attention!!!
Food was amazing! Lots of dishes that we know from NOBU. The service started slow but got better. The place and ambience looked run down and dirty, very bad. The prices are high.
Overall was ok, but it is the food that makes this place, not the service, not the ambience.
Really not good
We love the Matsuhisa in Vail when we go skiing; go back every year. Difficult getting a reservation. The one we went to in Beverly Hills was really very very very poor. I don’t know what it is, but my feel is that everyone is struggling getting jump started after being closed for so many months. Food was really not great. The sushi was average at best (KOI much better), these wagyu tacos were just basic tasteless ground beef,……all not great.

A number of the dishes were not executed well - new style sashimi felt over seasoned. Found the ambience and the service really lacking.
Be the first to ReplyGetting back in the groove
I had not been to Matsuhisa in a long while and was pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent, so was the service and the new outdoor space pleasant to indulge in the finer foods we were served. Glad to have had another fabulous dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe OG
The sashimi was fresh, the best miso cod and king crab noodles are highly recommended. The ambience is basic yet the food cannot be faulted.
Be the first to ReplyA true sushi experience
The place is expensive but it’s definitely worthwhile. We were two adults and two teens and everyone walked out of the restaurant with a happy smile on our faces. We sat at the bar and found it was a much better experience than sitting at a table. It was also interesting to see Nobu overseeing the sushi chefs during the evening.
Be the first to ReplyGood sushi, but WAYYYYY overpriced
Why would anyone pay $16 for 1 bite of food...for 1 live of really thin fish? After spending $1,050 for 5 people, I came home hungry. Never again, even though I didn't pay (a billionaire paid), that's just stupid and irresponsible to pay that much for dinner.
Way too cramped, small tables, and bathrooms that are disgusting, which were exactly like bathrooms in a grocery store, NOT kidding.
Not impressed.
Variable quality of dishes and expensive; must order carefully
This restaurant remains packed after three decades. Japanese-Peruvian fusion. Beverly Hills/Westside crowd. A heart of palm salad was wonderful - supple dressing. A watercress salad was strongly dressed and also very good. Tempura poor - thick layer of batter. Sashimi in olive oil and yuzu with seasonings was excellent, if pricey. Lobster with sautéed vegetables was one of the worst dishes in some time - heavy brown sauce, over-salted and too much wasabi. Also overpriced at $55 for moderate portion. No amplified music, which is great, though tables close together.
