Absolutely Terribke, Save Yourself the Disappointment!!
Save yourself the disappointment, the time and money. This place is absolutely terrible! The menu has drastically changed since the chef left and the hotel introduced a new chef and new menu. The food took ages, the service was slow even tough the place was empty and when it finally came the steak was cold, the chicken rice was hard and over cooked and a cold plate of tuna appetizers took 45 mins to bring out and was tasteless. Overall a Zero , Never Going Back and actually feel bad for the people working there.

Best service from staff. Enjoyed the nice outdoor sitting with a breeze. Fun ambiance and delicious food. They weren't kidding with the bottomless mimosas!
Be the first to ReplyOverhyped mediocre food and service
Overrated and overpriced mediocre hotel restaurant. Service was slow on a very slow night. Waited more than an hour for food. Water was served room temperature in tiny glasses with unattended refill service. Parking at valet is cash only and $20. One guest and our party did not like the food and ended up ordering something else. Instead of removing the item from the check, they wrapped up the uneaten food and handed it to her in a doggy bag. Was charged $32 for that meal despite the fact that it was uneaten and sent back. We were a party of eight and made reservations to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived, the hostess had not even designated a table for our party, and we ended up waiting until they identified a place for us to sit. This was on a Monday night, and the restaurant was empty! I can’t imagine the service on a busy night. To add insult to injury, our bill included a 20% gratuity because we were a large party. Will not be returning to this establishment.
Be the first to ReplyWOW!!
Mamey never disappoints. Amazing cuisine - every single dish was delicious. The ambiance is fun and the service was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyAverage, Though Your Mileage May Vary
I don’t usually review local restaurants, preferring to write about more distant places, but was reminded that what is closer to home is probably distant to someone else so… Mamey’s menu has a Caribbean/Asian fusion slant which has become not as uniquely sounding as one might expect. Still, if executed well, there are enough flavor combinations to surprise if not at least meet expectations. The restaurant itself has an indoor bar-centric area and an outdoor covered walkway space. On entering, the noise and canned music were a bit too loud for normal conversation and when we asked for a quiet table we were ushered to the outdoor hallway. This would later prove to be a mistake because 1) There is no view of interest to merit being relegated to al fresco dining, especially when 2) The fresco portion was non-existent on a humid South Florida evening as overhead fans pushing around hot air were not enough to prevent rivulets of sweat dripping down our backs, 3) The music volume was quickly increased anyway as more diners were seated and 4) Though probably not allowed, the wafting smell of cigarette smoke was intermittent enough to be annoying. We chose a sampling menu where food was to be presented “family style” with four appetizers served, then the table would be cleared for four second courses, then cleared once more for dessert. The appetizers were interesting enough on paper: Conch fritters with a cilantro aioli being the most flavorful while the usual tired catch-of-the-day ceviche (found in so, so many Miami restaurants) was the least. The white truffle and brie grilled cheese might have made the list but the faint flavors were overwhelmed by a mango jam and the too-thick bread. We also found the ceviche and watermelon salad selections a bit cumbersome to serve “family style” as the corresponding liquids, integral to their taste, were difficult to keep separate on the lone 6” plate that was set for each diner. The plate-clearing and appearance of the mains was a bit slow, and once again the items were hit-and-miss: The lemongrass glazed grouper on bok choy with bamboo rice and Thai curry was inspired (the grouper being cooked perfectly), but a bit more than a whiff of lemongrass would have been appreciated. A churrasco with red pepper chimichurri was also good though not groundbreaking, while a vegetable Pad Thai was serviceable, and a gummy mess of ghee roasted plantains was both tasteless and forgettable. There was plenty of time to ponder these dishes as, again, the clearing of plates took so long that we were able to examine the used plates at our leisure, allowing for copious notes to be written. A Jamaican rum cake with toffee syrup was presented for dessert and, although one of the more flavorful selections of the evening, also had to be served “family style.” This proved a challenging proposition when it came to dividing the 4” round mass among our table of three. I believe for a selection of that size the restaurant could certainly spring for one item per person rather than having diners perform micro-surgery to split apart the presentation (I shudder to think how it would have gone if there were a group of 5 or 6). Only valet parking is offered at the hotel where the restaurant is located ($12.00 for two hours as of this writing) and there is no validation.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience
We went for dinner to get the Taste of The Gables with two friends. This was our first time in the restaurant the whole experience was outstanding. Since the moment we walked in, we went to the bar to meet with a friend and the mixologist was very attentive suggesting drinks for all of us. The restaurant gorgeous... We were seated right away and the waiter came to speak about the menu and get our drinks. Allie came to our table and introduced herself and gave us back round about the chef and to how they cook with fresh local ingredients. She made us delicious cocktails and we were in heaven. We ordered the Taste of the Gables and we were not disappointed. The appetizers, the main courses and dessert were spectacular!! Everything was very tasty, specially the grouper and the plantain dish. The portions were very generous, we could not finish everything, so bring your appetite! I will definitely come back again for amazing food and great service.
Be the first to ReplyVery good. Would go again!
Fantastic food and service. We ordered the shrimp tacos, the tostones, ceviche, lamb ribs, farro salad, and grouper. All were fantastic. My favorite was the lamb, which was just out of this world! My fiancés favorite was the ceviche, a fusion with a coconut and leche de Tigre sauce. They waiter was very attentive to her dietary allergy, and was able to make all necessary accommodations! Would go again next time in Miami, and bring friends and family.

The restaurant is a hit and miss. You may have a good experience one time and a not so good experience the next. The hostess was a disaster. She tells us the table is ready but we need to wait. There were several tables available but we still needed to wait for her to figure something out. We sat at the bar for a drink to wait for the hostess to figure something out. The bar tender you would expect to be friendly but not this guy. Also, I still cant figure out how a high end restaurant cannot transfer your drinks to your table bill so you have to pay at the bar before you go to your table. The food is good, but not something that stood out. I expected more as I had a great experience a month before.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Went to Mamey for happy hour. We’ve been at least 5 times, so went right upstairs and sat at a table. Thirty minutes later, nobody showed up at our table. Finally a waiter passed by and told us they had a special function so there would be no service upstairs. Went downstairs and everyone seemed to be doing us a big favor. Nothing was open except for the bar. No happy hour at the bar so had to pay double for the same food that would have been served at happy hour. Very disappointing. Also, last time we had dinner at Mamey, we had a gift certificate for $100, but due to a “computer problem” they would only give us a credit for $93.
Be the first to ReplyTruly unique and deeply flavourful journey
We were unsure of this choice but decided to give it a try ! Inside a hotel and valet parking, it’s spacious and great ambiance. Ariel our waiter was outstanding and following his recommendations, from the drinks to the food, the experience was exceptional! The Glazed Lamb ribs exemplified the depth of flavour and as main we had the Jerked Spice Pork Belly and Lemon Grass Grouper both truly unique in its flavors. No wonder the chef is a finalist in some Jame Beard classification.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious breakfast
Stayed at The Thesis and had breakfast here before checking out. The CHURRASCO STEAK AND EGGS are absolutely delicious and have a kick of spice! The coffee was also on-point!
Be the first to ReplyEclectic Fun!
This is one of our favorite spots for a Friday evening dinner! They have a very interesting and eclectic menu. Our favorite thing are the lamb ribs, and for dessert it is the rum cake. The service is Good and the seating outside is nice.
Be the first to ReplyService slow and inadequate. Check your bill for mistakes. It is quite common for mistakes.
Have eaten there or ordered take out at least 3 or 4 times this year. The ambience in the breezeway is wonderful, relaxing, and very inviting. Today we arrived for lunch around 2 pm. Were seated immediately, aide took our beverage order and waiter arrived shortly thereafter. We ordered the chicken platter with congri and an appetizer of Brussels sprouts. By 2:15 we had finished the appetizer. Waiter never came back to table to check on us. Meal arrived at 3 pm, an hour after we arrived and 45 minutes after we finished appetizer. We finished our meal, ordered dessert and were done by about 20 after 3. Had to summon the aide for the bill. After she left, I looked at bill and had a charge for an additional beverage we never ordered. Had to stand up to get waiters attention. Paid cash to avoid extra charges. On the previous visit, waiter had upped his tip by $10.00. Believe me that I had already given that previous worker a good tip.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it and expensive
The restaurant portions are ridiculously small and expensive! The food flavor good but nothing spectacular, and the menu with very few options.
Be the first to ReplyMamey - good (but not great) Caribbean-style restaurant
A relatively new Miami/Coral Gables restaurant (recently listed NYT - 50 USA restaurants we’re excited about in 2022) by Chef Nevin Patel focuses on Caribbean/Island foods and flavor. Located in the Thesis Hotel complex (across US 1 from U. Miami college campus), it’s a cute, upscale casual restaurant and was plenty crowded on a recent Sunday night. Ambiance - spacious indoor and covered outdoor seating. Overly dark inside. Somewhat overly loud sound system Cocktails - good (house Margarita, and Caribbean Old Fashioned; I tried and would prefer a regular Old Fashioned) Shrimp roll appetizer - piping hot and very good Tuna tartare tostones - under-seasoned; “heavy” fried tostones Hearts of palm salad - rather plain Churrasco entree - very good flavors Roasted carrots side dish - under-seasoned At an average price point of approximately $100 per person, Mamey is “good” but under-delivers on several menu items and limited choices.
Be the first to ReplyWe had an amazing evening at Mamey.
The Miami Spic Grouper dish was delicious and the Hog Fish special was fantastic. The manager Adolfo was super accommodating since we had guests arriving after us and we all had a great time. The service was wonderful, very pleasant and not overbearing. The dishes were all unique and super yummy. Good for family or business or a date- the décor is tranquil and Miami cool. Can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyMiami Spice not Nice
Reserved a Miami Spice reservation today, restaurant required a credit card. Did that, showed up early. Was seated..and then it begins. The service was horrible. When asked for flat or sparkling my friend and I both said club soda. After asking us 4 or 5 times between bus boy and server, they brought over 2 cans of Canada Dry Club Soda. Friend orderd PubBelly sandwich it was pure fat, told server and he said I'll let them know. Then took a while to get check, and I noted on check quality of food and service. Restaurant then told OpenTable that I was a "no-show". Restaurant didn't want my review. Shame on you...last time I try this place. Oh and let's not forget the $12.00 valet parking fee.
Be the first to ReplyWho are they cooking for? A nothing menu
A total disappointment. Very expensive with total lack of culinary refinement. We really were ready for the type of spice and flavor profile associated with chef Patel.
The ambience is very nice but music could be softer. We tried different dishes. One couple was vegetarian. Very few options for them, they tried the Trini spiced cauliflower (basic and bland), white truffle and Brie grilled cheese (no comments), we then shared the Ghee roasted plantains (were actually ok but how can you screw this one up). We also ordered the Florida Key Wahoo ceviche which was ok but very minimalistic ( very little fish) and also tried the duck fried rice (greasy, bland and with the fried egg on top). Wine by the glass selection was limited and very overpriced. Deserts we tried the rum cake and cheesecake, both were fine. Definitely not coming back and not recommending it.
Outstanding farm to table restaurant with unique flavors
This is by far the best meal I have had in a while. Why? The ingredients were fresh, the flavors and combinations were different and pleasing to the palate e.g the mussels in a tomato cream curry sauce. The rum cake dessert with the home made vanilla ice cream was a winner.
Be the first to ReplyService was very slow and food not much better
Lunch on a Thursday, ordered ceviche and the tuna tostones, both very good. The lamb was gamy and we complained that it tasted more like mutton than lamb, to which the waiter (super slow and not good service) replies, well, it is lamb. Did I mention service was slow? We had to wait over 20 minutes to order and even longer to get our food plus, we had to get up to get our waiter in order to get the check. A disaster. not going back.
Be the first to ReplySucker Tax
After another good dinner at Mamey the bill was delivered to the table. We had been charged $2 extra per coattail for ice. Yes, they have a “Rocks” charge. Based on how quickly our waitress agreed to remove the charge, I assume that it’s a sucker charge for those who don’t notice.
What a shame. It’s a nice restaurant.
Very Good Cooking in Coral Gables
The feed here is quite good. Stand outs are the ceviche, the pompano in a banana leaf with coconut rice, the short rib empanadas. The chicken was a bit dry, but tasty. Key lime flan was refreshing and satisfying.
Be the first to ReplyCan’t wait to return to Mamey’s!!!!
We visited Mamey on a Friday night… Fairly early so it wasn’t too busy, but our experience was first class.
Food, drinks, service and ambiance was all amazing - really couldn’t find fault. We had the island chips and salsa, tuna tostones and peri peri chicken with sweet potato mash (want to return if only to have this again!!)
Jerk margaritas were fantastic too. If you’re in the area..go! Hotel THesis within which Mamey’s is located is also top notch, and visit the outside bar on 3rd for another amazing experience.
Can’t wait to return.
Food and service A+
The food was amazing. The grouper is the best. However, the best thing was the service we received from Luis. Best service in town.

THesis Hotel third floor rooftop, Covid procedures, great staff. Crowd mostly locals, medium age 35, and @ happy hour live music every day w/ women out numbering men. Menu: cocktails, ribs better than bar food, did we say women.
