Incredible Omakase!
Without any doubt the finest sushi we have ever had. Many, many small and varied dishes, all artfully presented. OK, it is *expensive* Not exactly a casual night out. But, if you have something to celebrate, there could be no better restaurant.

This was my 3rd visit to Mako and it has become my favorite sushi restaurant in the city. Each piece of nigiri or slice of sashimi is perfection. The hot dishes are equally impressive. The portions are on the smaller side but there’s a reason for this. Chef wants you to enjoy each piece in one bite while the rice and fish are in perfect harmony. Perfection comes at a price so be prepared. I would say you can’t go wrong visiting Mako.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, terrible service
Go earlier than your reservation time and they will probably treat you better. Maybe.
We had a 6pm reservation but the manager called at 5:59pm asking where I was. I was a few minutes late and he reaction was “Oh god. Then we have to start the course without you.” Seriously? Who says “Oh god.” to a customer? Amateur move to thrust your emotions upon a customer. We caught up with the other customers right away as we were only one small dish behind, but throughout the whole course, we felt rushed as a waiter was always waiting behind us to take our empty plates the moment we took the last bite. We couldn’t savor the good food because of this pressure we felt from the waiters.
In addition, we ordered a bottle of wine, but no one poured our wine after the first glass. No one came to provide us with the beverage menu when our glasses were empty. It seems like the only thing they have in mind is to rush the customers to eat and leave so they can bring in the next round of customers.
The next group of customers were supposed to start at 8:30pm but we were pressured into leaving by 8pm. Very uncomfortable.
The food overall was excellent. Each piece of nigiri was small in a classy way. The kobachis were good too. Loved the kanimiso. The portions were small, again in a classy way, and I could’ve eaten much more. If you book the 8:30pm course, apparently you can order more at the end but not the earlier courses.

I visited this restaurant in June 2019 before they got their michelin star, the experience was memorable. In that ocassion, I also went to Alinea, but my most memorable moment was in Mako, the Omakase experience is in another level.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food. Bad Service.
My girlfriend and I went to Mako for her birthday. The food is very good—all the sushi was tasty and the squab dish was also great. We arrived a little late and had trouble finding the restaurant—once we arrived they said we had missed the first couple courses and that we could not have them. This was for a special occasion and the fact that they could not make an exception for plating two tiny courses so that we could have the full meal is absurd and shows a level of pretentiousness and inflexibility that the best restaurants should not have. Not to mention at a price of 175 per person we did not get the full value of the meal. Although the food is great I would recommend Kyoten over Mako since the food is better and the restaurant and service are much better and more genuine.

Small intimate room (maximum of 24 diners), with excellent service. We loved sitting at the counter watching the chefs prep.
The sushi was excellent but I do agree with the previous reviewer, it would have been nice to have a little more variety, vegetables, soup etc.
Even great sushi can get a tad monotonous after multiple courses.
I would return.
Masterful performance, too much sushi
Unlike the tasting menu at the Japanese government's Restaurant Inn Ann or the "outsider" Japanese omakase at Shibumi in Los Angeles, Makos omakase menu was lacking 3 things:
Vegetables, vegetables, vegetables.
Omakase in Japan typically include Soup, yakitori, tempura and wagu beef.
This tasting menu was too much sushi, not enough vegetables.
OK, I enjoyed how the chef made the nigiri. It was hypnotic.
But where were the cold vegetable dishes?
This place is why I don't eat sushi.
ITS MOSTLY TASTELESS AND BORING.
Enjoyed all the dishes that weren't sushi.
Very good Omakase restaurant
It was really a wonderful experience at Mako. Service and food were excellent, the sushi was fantastic. Their chef Park is simply amazing and does and outstanding job creating superb dishes. Great interior and perfect music.
